president, a caravan of trump voters lining up to greet him as he makes a fundraising stop here in san francisco. >> then it's the end of an era. the controversial horse racing track golden gate fields, set to close its doors this weekend. what is next for that historic venue? >> good morning to you. it is friday, june 7th. >> yes, i'm going to start the check of our forecast with drew. we are done with the heat wave. >> that feels nice to say out there. cool and breezy. that's the trend for this afternoon. we'll go outside to our sutro tower camera and you can see not only the bright sunshine that's blinding us, but if you look at the bottom of your screen that is coastal cloud cover that has returned, we are seeing some foggy conditions right now along the coast in half moon bay. here's your current sky conditions. even some fog reported around napa as we head towards concord and san jose, we have bright sunshine, some patchy cloud cover over the city and oakland. right now it's one of our cooler mornings this week, some 40s on the board in the valleys of sonoma county. so you definitely want that jacket with you. 50s currently around the bay shoreline, so we'll head inland first. it feels very

comfortable today compared to the triple digit heat we were dealing with just a couple of days ago. 80s for daytime highs with full sunshine. it gets breezy this afternoon around the bay shoreline, but we have bright conditions, low and mid 70s for our afternoon highs. that's pretty much where we should be for this time of the year. and then windy along our coast. pretty cloudy all day long in temperatures and the upper 50s. by 4 p.m. let's check in with gloria and see how the commute is going. this morning. >> good morning drew. happy friday to you. we know a lot of you are working from home on this friday morning, because the roads are pretty quiet today compared to what we usually see this time of the morning. so check this out. this is our san jose camera. two 8017. and look how empty it is right there. cars are dashing through, no issues at all in both directions of 280 and on 17. >> thank you gloria. today marks the beginning of the end for golden gate fields, the historic racetrack will be holding its final races this weekend. abc seven news reporter ryan curry joining us in studio. and ryan, it's been a controversial few

years for the track. >> kumasi good morning. the track has been around since 1941. many call it an iconic landmark in the east bay, but it has been the center of protest over animal cruelty. the owners of the track announced the closure back in july of last year. they say they are moving races to santa anita to consolidate operations, but many have been demanding the track close for a while. questionable history over the treatment of the horses 17 died last year at golden gate fields. some will miss it, while others tell us they look forward to what the land could be used for. we spoke with them earlier this year. >> it'll be odd to see it not there anymore. driving by. so i've had i've had good times there though, and our friends have had some fun, fun times there on, you know, sunday activity. >> i think it's really a gift from the gods because it gives the whole region the opportunity to plan for development. >> golden gate fields will still be paying property taxes to the

city of albany, even after it closes. the future of the site remains unclear. it is currently zoned for waterfront recreation. many we spoke with say they'd like to see it turned into housing or a park. it's a massive piece of land with prime bayfront real estate. the last race is set to start sunday after 5 p.m. ryan curry abc seven news thanks, ryan. >> this morning, former president donald trump is waking up in la after his short visit to san francisco. he attended a private fundraising dinner in park heights last night, according to reuters. that event raked in $12 million. supporters and protesters of trump showed up outside of the dinner. the event, hosted by tech billionaire david sax. tickets were sold out, ranging f 50,000 to $500,000. the chair of the san francisco republican party believes support for trump is growing in the city. >> i think it's very jarring for the democrats, to see not just that the president has a sold out fundraiser in pacific heights, from tech folks,

largely counter-protesters say trump is not fit to be president again, pointing to his recent criminal conviction in new york, david sax posted a lengthy explanation on twitter or ex as to why he is backing the former president. >> it was well over a thousand words, but here's how he wrapped it up. quote the voters have experienced four years of president trump in four years of president biden. and in tech, we call that an a b test with respect to economic policy, foreign policy, border policy and legal fairness, trump performed better. he is a president who deserves a second term. end quote. now we spoke with the senior politics reporter with our media partners at san francisco standard to shed a bit of light on why a san francisco tech billionaire would back the former president. and here's what he had to say. >> there is a growing number of billionaires and wealthy people like sacks, who are warming up to the idea of trump and the

question is why many people have ideas that it is related to increasing their own wealth, rather than their stated goals about public policy. but that is, you know, up to each individual coming up in the next half hour, we will be hearing from some of the former president's supporters here in the bay area, as well as some of his critics, and what they had to say about his visit. >> you can check in with the biggest moments of trump's visit and find all of our election coverage heading into november, right now at abc seven news.com and wherever you stream abc seven. >> a significant a significant development in the state trial of a man who broke into nancy pelosi's house and attacked her husband, paul, with a hammer. a san francisco superior court judge dismissed three charges against david depape for that 2022 attack. the judge says trying to pap for charges similar to the federal trial that he already went through amounts to double jeopardy. the charge is dismissed, are attempted murder, assault of an elder and assault with a deadly weapon. depape still faces five state charges that were not part

of the federal trial, including burglary, kidnaping and false imprisonment. he will be serving 30 years in prison as a result of the federal convictions. >> happening now. you should be on the lookout in certain parts of san jose. a mountain lion has been spotted in two different neighborhoods in the last two days. now, we first told you about the sighting yesterday. right here on abc. seven mornings. gloria is at the live desk with where the big cat was last seen. >> yeah, well, kumasi a park ranger tells us they believe the same mountain lion was spotted on wednesday and thursday. the first sighting was around l.a. drive and war admiral way in south san jose on wednesday night. and then yesterday, the city says the animal was seen near kelly park. a resident shared photos with us. you could see this right here, but san jose is not confirmed that this is the cat that they're looking for. police say callers reported seeing the mountain lion walking into yards. >> i'm shocked. i'm a little bit

shocked. and now i'm like, so glad that i keep these guys on a leash because i really wouldn't know what to do. i have no coat to make myself bigger. >> and officials say if you see a mountain lion, do not run back away. slowly stand tall, make a noise and do not turn your back. and fish and wildlife officials say mountain lions typically pose little threat to humans. they suggest not being out too late at night or too early in the morning. so reggie, even though our first instinct is to run away again, you don't want to do that. you don't want to run away. >> ignore your instincts. okay thank you. this is a story we've been following for years. uc berkeley, celebrating a victory in its effort to build student housing at people's park. yesterday, the state supreme court ruled in favor after a lawsuit sought to put a halt to the project. it claimed the student noise would have an environmental impact. state lawmakers closed the loopholes in the california environmental quality act that were used to sue the university. >> we passed two different laws to make clear that environmental

laws should not be used or abused. i should say, to stop on campus student housing, which is some of the most environmentally sustainable uh- housing. >> cal put out a statement saying it is now focusing on the timeline to resume construction on the project. we have not heard from the lawyer representing the group that filed the lawsuit to sutro tower this morning. >> it's telling the story very well with our changes. it's foggy. you're looking at right now. that sun is up on the horizon, but our marine layer is back and it's ready to bring our temperatures back to average, back to reality. so highs versus average today, some cities actually a bit below average. we're talking about oakland, san francisco, daytime highs in the 60s will be about three degrees below average. it's quite a turnaround from the heat. we had much of the previous couple of days. but other areas where we do have temperatures above average, it's just slightly between 2 and 6 degrees above average. here's future weather.

we have coastal clouds right now. we'll keep that all day long, 50s and 60s along the coast. but inland it feels a lot better. we've got relief from the heat. our heat wave is done. we'll stay in the 70s and 80s for daytime highs. it does get windy around here this afternoon. we'll find that onshore flow about 20 to 35mph, reinforcing those average temperatures today. so 60s and 70s around the bay shoreline, 80s in our warmest spots inland today. so temperatures are back to where we should be for the seventh day of june in most spots. weather, wellness, air quality, good to moderate, moderate pollen levels, and your uv index is a ten out of an 11. >> reggie drew thank you. so to come a big reversal for the fda and it could lead to some vaping products being back on store shelves. and then what the san francisco board of supervisors decided about a policy that could bring pandas to the zoo. some of country music's biggest stars in nashville this weekend for cma fest. we'll take you there live

first, the ex-advisor to former president donald trump was sentenced to four months in prison for contempt of congress. he defied a subpoena from the house committee that investigated the us capitol insurrection. bannon is expected to seek a stay of the judge's order, which could delay his surrender date. new developments in san francisco's effort to get pandas at the zoo. the mayor's proposal to fund a panda habitat

to fund a panda habitat at the zoo with private donations has just taken a step forward and gloria, the next hurdle, comes on tuesday at the board of supervisors meeting. >> oh, that's right reggie. a fundraising plan to bring giant pandas from china to the san francisco zoo will go before the board of supervisors on tuesday. yesterday the board's government audit and oversight committee voted unanimously to recommend an amended fundraising plan and includes an ethics rules waiver, and it allows several city departments to receive unlimited donations to cover the $25 million needed to upgrade the zoo in order to host the pandas concerns. donations could create a conflict of interest within the mayor's office, had stalled the plan. the new resolution will require more transparency, including a public list of donors. several animal rights advocacy groups are opposed to the plan, though they say the zoo is outdated and has to deal with other problems with animals currently in their care before

they add more. and the pandas are expected to arrive sometime next year. so reggie aqui a lot of people are excited about that , definitely. >> and people are excited about the new nintendo store, which is planned to come to san francisco at union square at the time. when we first said this a few weeks ago, we didn't know where it was going to be. but now we do have an address. according to permits filed with the city earlier this week, the new store will be at 331 powell street. it's an 11,000 square foot retail space that's part of the western saint francis hotel. the union square store is close to the size of nintendo's only other us store, which is in new york. the store here is expected to open next year. it's happening this weekend. country music's biggest star is gathering in nashville for cma fest. >> it's part of an abc network special that's airing later this month. abc news reporter brianna ruffalo joining us live in nashville. and we heard our fave, dolly parton was in the building. >> you better get to living. >> don't forget to breathe.

between, each night's main event happens inside nissan stadium. >> it's just like the lineup is crazy, you know, being in nashville, like. i mean, this is the home of country music. so it's like there's an extra kind of specialness to it. >> i only see everyone just let loose and have fun and be free. so i'm excited to just see when that last chorus comes, how much energy i can get. you know how, how crazy we can get the stadium to go. >> and at cma fest, even the superstars are super fans who are you excited to see? >> skinner, leonard skynyrd? i mean, just like, you know, my dad was a massive fan, like southern rock was like his his go to. and skynyrd was his band. >> and those fans keep drawing us back in. and you know, when you're down, you listen to music and you play it. if you're a musician, when you're happy, you listen to music. so music is a great healer and it's a it's a great thing. our fans have been with us for many, many years and our weather is nice and we're really just getting started.

kids. yeah not you stopping by. >> that's what i'm saying. >> you already started my friend's kids. i don't care about them. that's funny. outside this morning. let's go to the exploratorium. camera. we are going to find a cool and breezy afternoon on the way here. so the accuweather headlines prepare for those winds to gust about 20 to 35mph. that is going to just reinforce that cooler air highs are closer to average today. the weekend outlook is looking fantastic. we have some morning fog out there giving way to sunshine. it is looking very nice though. both saturday and sunday and the next week we are warming up again, but nowhere near as hot as we were the past couple of days. no heat advisories are in effect, so today's forecast inland it is looking very comfortable. sunshine mid 80s around the bay shoreline. we have some pockets of fog right now, giving way to bright skies and temperatures in the 70. but along the coast we'll keep our marine layer there almost all day long. and highs in the 50s with those gusty winds. so we are breezy

and cooler today. highs in the microclimates in the south bay. it feels pleasant. we're in the 70s and low 80s for the most part along the peninsula, windy for our coast. it's also cloudy for half moon bay in pacifica bright and breezy in redwood city. at 74, we'll go to 67 in san mateo across the city today, temperatures actually below average. it's also a windy afternoon. temperatures in the low 60s for daytime highs. layers are key in the city today , 60s and 70s for petaluma and sausalito, but 82 in santa rosa, 75 in napa, the east bay will find sunny skies this afternoon. pleasant temperatures 68 in oakland, 78 in fremont and then inland. we have relief from our heat. the heat wave is done. we'll stay in the 80s today. 86 in antioch, 83. walnut creek, 86, in livermore. overnight tonight it will be a blend of stars and clouds out there as our marine layer grows. even more overnight lows, mainly in the 50s, which will lead to some morning clouds tomorrow morning. looking at the weekend, we'll have afternoon sunshine on saturday, pretty average temperatures and then little

afternoon. it's nice to say that especially for those folks inland that have been dealing with that heat wave the past couple of days, our heat advisory is done. here's a big reason why the tam cam the fog is back. you know, that means cooler conditions are on the way. looking at skies right now, some patchy clouds over the city and oakland. clear skies for concord and san jose, but it is quite cloudy along the coast. half moon bay reporting those overcast skies. so right now we're mainly in the 50s from the city to oakland. 57 in san jose, right now we're at 59 in danville. some of our spots in the north bay, one of our colder mornings this week at sonoma and nevada, right now starting out in the 40s. so inland today, the forecast shows you it's back to where we should be. we'll stay in the low and mid 80s for daytime highs with sunny skies around the bay shoreline. right now, some patchy cloud cover, full sunshine this afternoon feels very pleasant with those highs in the low and mid 70s, but along the coast we will keep the clouds all day long. it is windy this afternoon and daytime highs will top out in the upper 50s by 4 p.m. let's check in with gloria, see how the commute

is going this way. >> good morning drew. good morning everyone. you know traffic is not too heavy right now on this friday morning. this is a live look at our bay bridge toll plaza camera. the metering lights did flip on this morning at 550, but it's still not too heavy out there. so from the toll plaza to san francisco, it will take you about 17 minutes right now. and looking live at our oakland camera at 880, you can see the traffic is moving along. well there, northbound and southbound on the nimitz. no major issues. and a look at our drive times for this morning if you're going from tracy to dublin. of course that always tends to be a slow spot. 71 minutes right now san rafael to san francisco, 15 minutes and antioch to concord. it'll take you about 22 minutes right now, and we want to move over to a live desk alert for you. we have a heads up for caltrain riders. you may have to make other arrangements if you have plans to ride this weekend. and that's because service between san francisco and san jose will be shut down so the agency can test its new electric trains. so there will be some busses

they'll be provided between the san jose diridon, palo alto and millbrae stations. the busses will not run into san francisco. the shutdown is part of caltrans work to electrify the railroad with trains that are supposed to be faster, cleaner and more efficient. the new trains will also have wi-fi. they'll have power outlets at every seat on board displays with digital trip information, more storage, and a baby changing station in the bathrooms. caltrans says if they find a problem this weekend, they will be doing more tests. but this weekend is the last scheduled shut down, and the new trains will be rolling out in september. so again, just a reminder, make other plans. if you were planning on writing caltrain this weekend. kumasi. >> thank you gloria. about 30 minutes from now, president biden is set to speak about democracy from normandy, france, as he continues to mark the 80th anniversary of d-day. mr. biden met with ukrainian president vladimir zelensky just a few hours ago. he announced $225 million in new aid to the

country for the first time. he publicly apologized to ukraine for a months long hold up in american military assistance. his remarks come one day after another d-day commemoration honoring american veterans for their bravery. >> we're living in a time when democracy is more at risk across the world than a point since the end of the world war two, since these beaches were stormed to surrender to bullies, to bow down to dictators is simply unthinkable. >> president biden's speech in about 30 minutes is expected to focus on the fight between dictatorship and freedom. of course, we will have president biden's remarks live for you when he starts around seven this morning. you can watch an abc news special report wherever you watch abc seven news, and we will be sure to send you an alert via the abc seven bay area app when it starts. >> an update on the fires this week in our area, a brush fire that destroyed a home and injured two firefighters is now 100% contained. the corral fire

started saturday near livermore and tracy. it burned around 22mi■!s. cal fire says higher humidity and cooler temps helped crews make progress. now we go to the north bay where there's 90% containment of the crystal fire. more than 150 firefighters were sent to battle that wildfire between saint helena and calistoga thursday. it has burned 60 acres, but no homes for firefighters. injured earlier this week were treated at a hospital and they have been released. >> we are following up on that shooting that happened in san francisco's dolores park wednesday night. we have learned a teenager was killed in that shooting. police found the 19 year old with multiple gunshot wounds. first responders did cpr, but that teenager died at the scene. a supervisor, raphael mandelman, whose district includes dolores park, called the shooting scary. we are working to learn more about the investigation into the shooting. >> san francisco mayoral candidate daniel lurie, who is running on a tough on crime platform, went to dolores park

yesterday to ask for more police protection. >> my kids go to school here, our offices, our campaign offices are a couple of blocks away, listen, violence can happen anywhere, but typically we should not be worried about shootings in dolores park. >> lurie, who lives in another part of town, says the city streets are neither safe nor clean. he wants a fully staffed police department and sheriff's department, and says he would call a state of emergency to deal with the fentanyl crisis. >> former president donald trump resumes his campaign fund raising events in los angeles today. it comes after a successful stop in san francisco, where he raised millions of dollars at a private dinner in pacific heights last night. the fundraiser was hosted by tech billionaire david sachs and his wife. the tickets were sold out, ranging from 50,000 to $500,000. supporters and protesters gathered on the streets, and outside of that dinner to show their support or opposition for trump.

anita to consolidate operations. it is a racetrack that has been around for over 80 years and since 2008, it's been only the only thoroughbred racetrack in northern california. animal rights activists have long wanted this track to close. 17 horses died last year. when we spoke with people during the announcement of the closure, they say the focus now shifts to what could come next for the land. >> it was within three years that you saw just a whole new community. you can create recreational area within that golden gate fields area. there's so much you could do. it's really a blank canvas that can be, made into something pretty spectacular. >> when bay meadows closed, they turned that land into housing and retail space. golden gate field sits on prime bayfront property. the track and facility is 140 acres. it's currently zoned for waterfront recreation, but it will be up to the city of albany to decide what happens next. the last race is just for

testified yesterday. hallie biden says she found a gun in hunter's car in 2018. she said she panicked and used a pouch in his truck to conceal the gun before throwing it in the trash at a grocery store. jurors saw the surveillance video, dated 11 days after he allegedly obtained the firearm illegally, and the gun store clerk who sold hunter the firearm testified he did not exhibit any symptoms of drug or alcohol use. >> a dublin council member is now the city's mayor. michael mccorristin was sworn in after the former mayor, melissa hernandez, resigned to join the bart board of directors. mccorristin has been a dublin council member since 2020. he will serve out the rest of hernandez's term. dublin is now accepting applications for mccorristin city council seat. new at six a controversial move by two state senators from the bay area, scott wiener and bill dodd, coauthored a new bill that would allow restaurants to keep charging you those automatic fees. it would require

restaurants to disclose any additional fees, like automatic service charges and any mandatory gratuity on the menu. it will have to pass through both the senate and assembly before governor newsom potentially signs it. according to the chronicle, it's labeled as an urgency measure, which means if it's approved, it would go into effect immediately. a current bill banning these junk fees kicks in on july 1st. >> now it's your morning money report. the may jobs report is out and exceeding expectations. the u.s. economy added 272,000 jobs last month, more than the 180,000 jobs economists anticipated job gains were mostly seen in health care, government and hospitality. the unemployment rate rose from 3.9% to 4. that's according to the bureau of labor statistics. dollar general is taking new measures to try to stop people from stealing the company is removing items that are frequently stolen but didn't say what those items are. it's also getting rid of self-checkout at

beacon together. yesterday, volunteers picked up the pink canvas tarps and the 5000 steel spikes used to hold down the pink triangle atop twin peaks. the triangle is massive, covering nearly an acre, taking hundreds of volunteers to put it in place. >> we install the borders of the pink triangle. there are 240ft long each, and they're made out of pink sailcloth that they use as spinnakers and then we fill in between the lines on saturday morning with the 175 tarps. >> the pink triangle was once used to brand people suspected of being gay in concentration camps. now it's a symbol to protest against homophobia. the triangle is public. celebration starts at 1030. that's tomorrow morning. our pride coverage continues all month long leading up to the 54th annual san francisco pride parade. sunday, june 30th. abc seven. the only place you can watch it live streaming wherever you watch abc seven.
