live now at five. wildfire season officially gets started in one part of the bay area today, as bay area firefighters keep busy with brush fires over the past week, they tell us a risk of a major wildfire is low for now. >> the presumptive presidential nominees are in the thick of campaign season, and they appear to be neck and neck in the polls. today, donald trump, turning his attention back to his legal issues. >> goodbye. golden gate fields, the landmark racetrack now shut down for good. its final races bring out both grieving fans and relieved animal rights advocates . >> and what started as a brutal attack is now turned into a

story of community support. how neighbors in the east bay rallying around this ice cream vendor to build a better bay area. >> good morning to you. welcome to monday. it's june 10th. >> i want to start with that breaking traffic news at the bay bridge toll plaza with amanda kumasi and reggie. >> there is plenty of activity at the bay bridge toll plaza because of an earlier crash that happened just before four this afternoon. you're seeing from our emeryville camera showing you some of that activity. i want to fast forward so you can see also a live look at the bay bridge toll plaza. now, it was jammed up a little while ago, i want to say even in the last three minutes. but now that seems to have cleared, which is good news. but you can imagine as the morning commute continues to ramp up, this can certainly become a major problem. we do have a live camera that is on scene that can show you exactly what the issue is. this was a solo car crash if you want to take it. it happened around 4 a.m. i mentioned ended with a car being wedged between two toll booths. we did see

emergency crews on scene keeping drivers away from booths six through nine. another look from our emeryville camera. that lane block expansion happened within the last 15 minutes. initially, it was from 7 to 9 and we are showing just a few lanes again, six through nine impacted. as i was monitoring the activity this morning, i did see one person taken away from the scene on a stretcher. this is certainly going to slow you down as you make your way into the city, and we'll work on trying to get that live shot for you. but first let's toss it to drew. thanks, amanda. >> great info. keep you updated on that. and the accuweather forecast. the big headline over the next several days is we have a warming trend moving in once again. by tomorrow we have another round of heat advisory that will kick in. this morning. you could see a fair amount of cloud cover overhead. in fact, most of our cities right now reporting some sort of cloud cover from the city to oakland, san jose, napa to half moon bay inland, we do have clear skies

and today we will get a fair amount of sunshine once that fog burns off. after 9 a.m. temperatures right now were generally starting out in the 50s, so region by region inland. today we're warming up. we'll go into the low 90s with lots of sunshine. today so it feels warm today. it's even warmer here tomorrow around the bay shoreline. we're starting out that cloud cover fog breaks down close to 9 a.m. and it's a warm one, upper 70s to the lower 80s around the bay shoreline along the coast, though, it's a pretty cloudy day all day temperatures are on the cool side. we'll top out in the upper 50s to the lower 60s. we'll take a closer look at that heat advisory that kicks in tomorrow. coming up in just a few minutes. >> thanks, drew. happening today. it's the official start of wildfire season in santa rosa. the fire department says the declaration is necessary because of recent warming, warm, dry weather and increased fire activity. cal fire and contra costa firefighters teamed up to contain this wind driven brush fire that burned up a good chunk of hillside right by a group of homes in pittsburgh. it's the

fifth fire, totaling more than 40 acres of burn in the last eight days in the greater bay area. cal fire says the heat in the coming days is going to dry out the landscape, providing more fuel for fires in the north bay. fire departments are already calling in more firefighters for the season. >> we've actually elevated our staffing levels a couple weeks early, so we have reached our peak staffing levels, and that's just based on the conditions and the activity that we've started to see recently. >> officials say that other firefighting units throughout the state are following suit and upping their staffing levels. they want to be prepared with any and all the available resources on hand. >> happening today. former president donald trump is set for a virtual interview with the new york city probation officer following his conviction in the hush money trial against him last month. and amanda, this interview will play a role in sentencing next month, and it comes after he spent the weekend on the campaign trail. >> yeah, kumasi former president donald trump is expected to attend this interview virtually from his home in florida. his

lawyer will be with him this weekend. trump arrived in florida. this was last night after attending a campaign event in las vegas. this was his first large scale rally since his conviction. things didn't go exactly as planned. six people were taken to the hospital due to extreme heat and throughout the rally, trump complained about technical issues, including the teleprompter not working. despite the challenges, trump did announce his plan to end taxes on tips people earn. he also criticized president biden's recent immigration executive action limiting the asylum process. >> it's weak. it's ineffective. the first thing we're going to do is we're going to close that border tight as a drum, and we're going to let people come in, but only legally. >> trump made similar immigration promises during his 2016 campaign, but was unable to fulfill them as president. meanwhile, president biden is back home after traveling to france last week to mark the 80th anniversary of d-day. while there, mr. biden stressed the importance of standing up for

democracy, especially as russia continues its war in ukraine. back to you at the desk. >> thank you. amanda, this morning, the process to permanently shut down operations at golden gate fields is officially underway. horses ran their last races on the track along the berkeley albany border yesterday. the track is closing as the track's owner focuses on its southern california racetrack. golden gate fields has been in operation for 83 years. one fan drove from lake tahoe to spend one last afternoon at the track. she remembers as a kid, i've been coming to the track here since since 1948, great, great memories, and i hate to see it go, but i know it's a sign of the times. the closure comes at a time when the popularity of horse racing is down, and awareness about the treatment of the animals is higher. the number of horses bred for racing is less than half of what it was in 1990. as the final races were taking place, animal rights activists held a funeral procession for the horses who

died. there >> we make it our mission every day here at abc7 to find things helping to build a better bay area, and we highlight those breakthroughs in our communities. this morning, we're seeing a show of support in oakland for an ice cream vendor brutally attacked while on the job. abc seven news reporter lena howland has the video of the attack that persuaded people to take action. >> it was only two weeks ago when 50 year old felipe ramos batista was crossing the street, when three masked people ran up with guns drawn in this surveillance video circulating social media, one suspect knocks the ice cream vendor to the ground and then the group runs off with some of his belongings in your authentic, batista says he felt right there and then that he was going to be dead. batista is a father originally from guatemala who says he just moved here from san diego. he had only been working as an ice cream vendor for 45 days before this attack. >> when i saw the video was just awful. >> enter christian fragoso. after seeing the video, he

teamed up with a friend to track the ice cream vendor down. >> sometimes when people get robbed, they don't have no one. you know, no one to get help from. so we wanted to step up and help them. >> and boy did they by inviting the entire community to come by. batista out on sunday. one ice cream at a time. even oakland firefighters stopped by and waited in line in between calls because he has to provide for his family. >> he needs to put food on the table and he needs to have a roof. and so i'm just happy that we were able to help him out today in a matter of hours. >> he sold out close to 300 frozen treats. a handful of vendors also showed up to sell tacos, aguas frescas and more, only to give 100% of their proceeds over to batista contento feliz batista saying, i'm happy that they came here to lend me a hand. and if this story sounds familiar, that's because you've heard it before. back in october, fragoso organized a similar buyout when

a san francisco public works employee was caught on camera pushing over a street vendors cart in a now viral video near fisherman's wharf, fragoso is intent no different on sunday, and i'm just happy that he sold out when he opened his car. >> like it was just amazing and he was really happy he was about to cry. he was like in tears because he just couldn't believe it. how like all the people just came together. >> oakland police are still looking for the three people who robbed batista in oakland. lena howland, abc seven news. >> a well-dressed celebration, a well-deserved excuse me celebration for a group of female farm workers along the peninsula, san mateo county and the nonprofit alejo's hosted a ceremony honoring the women yesterday as part of their farm worker heroes event at the san mateo county fair. their photos and stories are captured in an exhibit. the farm worker heroes celebration is a part of the county fair every year in san mateo county, and those farm

workers of san mateo county have been through so much in this past year, especially after that mass shooting in half moon bay. but we are seeing change for the better. my colleague, abc seven news reporter luz pena, put together an abc seven news special after the shooting about the challenges farm workers face with housing. it's called hidden crisis, tragedy and half moon bay. you can watch it on demand on abc seven news.com or wherever you stream abc seven news bay area. >> time approaching 510 right now. we'll take you to our okay camera this morning. we do have our morning cloud cover. we have mostly cloudy skies over the airport right now. a current temperature of about 54 degrees, with a light wind out of the west. so hour by hour on future weather by 9 a.m. we still have a fair amount of cloud cover around the bay shoreline, but after about 10 a.m. that cloud cover is gone. we have sunshine and a warm afternoon on the way. later on by about 3 p.m, we'll see inland cities upper 80s to the lower 90s, 70s and 80s around the bay shoreline. even the city closing in on 70

degrees by the afternoon. so this is today is the start of a warming trend that really peaks here tomorrow. winds are breezy, the not as strong as they have been the past couple of days. that onshore flow about 15 to 25mph. that'll peak right around 5 p.m. this afternoon. so highs today. we'll hit 70 in the city, 75 in oakland, a warm 86 in san jose, 90 in concord and santa rosa. antioch at 93 lakeport and ukiah into the upper 90s for daytime highs. looking at your weather, wellness, we have good to moderate air quality. unfortunately, we just got the latest pollen levels in this morning and we do have high levels now of grass and moderate levels of tree pollen. so your allergies are just acting up once again. and that uv index is a ten out of an 11. look at the heat advisory reggie aqui coming up in about seven minutes. >> taking allergy medication is my personality now. >> it is many of us. >> yeah, a silicon valley chip maker that just became the third most valuable company in the world, has made a major move on wall street. how it can make it

break in the distance. that chp car slowing cars down who are trying to get onto the bay bridge because of this earlier crash that we've been following. emergency crews are still working to clear the scene of a solo car crash at the bay bridge toll plaza. again, you're looking live at this break going on right now, but we do want to get to video taken earlier this morning. you see it right there. that car was wedged between two toll booths. it has been removed, but booths six through nine remain blocked at this hour . the crash happened around four this morning. this can certainly become a major problem as the morning commute ramps up. and as i was monitoring the activity

this morning, i did see one person taken away from the scene on a stretcher, but this is certainly going to slow you down, especially as that morning commute ramps up again. that car that was wedged has been cleared right now. crews are working to clear the scene at the bay bridge toll plaza. we'll be sure to monitor it. we know that abc seven news reporter gloria rodriguez is also on scene, and she'll be delivering a live report in just about 15 minutes. >> all right, amanda, thank you. happening today, a major boost for a bay area company at the center of the ai boom. it's the first day of trading for santa clara based nvidia. after a ten for one stock split. that means there are now ten times as many shares, each costing one tenth the price they did on friday when that split was initiated. so it's about 120 bucks a share. nvidia share price has surged more than 190% in the last year, putting it out of reach for a lot of people. this morning. >> it's apple's turn when it comes to artificial intelligence . ai is expected to be a big

part of the company's annual worldwide developers conference in cupertino and amanda. it could include a collaboration with the biggest name in ai. >> yeah, kumasi open ai, the san francisco company behind chatgpt, is the major collaborator a lot of people are talking about here. bloomberg was the first to report this. this feature will reportedly be a chatbot powered by open ai. apple is also expected to be infusing ai into its virtual assistant, siri. now the changes are being described as making siri smarter and making photos, music and texting a more productive and entertaining experience. this will likely all be available on the new apple operating systems coming later this year. >> wwdc is typically a software event, so don't expect any big announcements about new products . the event begins at 10 a.m. and can be watched on apple .com. back to you, reggie. >> thanks, amanda. now to the pride month celebration across the bay area as abc7 celebrates pride all year long, the oakland lgbtq cultural center held its

first ever rainbow fair near lake merritt over the weekend. the event was free and family friendly, connecting the community to resources and friends. people came to eat and dance and learn about the center's services. >> many people used to defer to san francisco to go for resources and services. but oakland, our center, has grown dramatically, and we now serve thousands of people per year. oakland is such a diverse city, and so i just think that we are that is the secret sauce of oakland, and it really helps people to feel welcome and a part of our city. >> grammy award winner and disco legend thelma houston and famous dance artist thea austin performed at the event. >> a big pride celebration took place on san francisco's twin peaks over this weekend. the annual pink triangle now shining bright on the hillside. more than 600 volunteers put together the 29th edition of the triangle on saturday. in the fog. it

for the next couple of days. trees remain at medium levels and weeds and mold are at low levels. so today's forecast lots of sunshine inland today. it's a warm one, upper 80s to lower 90s. we have a bit of cloud cover this morning around the bay shoreline. we'll get sunshine out there and we'll go into the 70s. for most cities along the coast, we have thick fog right now, giving way to partly cloudy skies and temperatures, mainly in the 60s. so we have sunshine. we're a little breezy today. we'll be in the 80s for the most part in the south bay 86 in san jose, 87 in cupertino as we head along the peninsula, sunny and warm in redwood city at 83, we'll go to about 79 in mountain view, along the coast. we have cloud cover right now, giving way to some sunshine this afternoon, low to mid 60s for half moon bay and pacifica across the city. today will be quite cloudy for the sunset and richmond districts. similar story for daly city in the 60s. we have clouds right now. downtown but we'll get some sunshine breaking out close to noon. a little bit warmer there. 70 for the financial district in the north bay. it's warm, verging on hot in some areas. 90 in santa rosa, 86 in novato, 85

in sonoma in the east bay clouds to sunshine today and it's warm. 75 in oakland, 82 in fremont and then inland. we're in the mid 80s to the mid 90s, 86 in san ramon. but we jumped to 95 in brentwood with full sunshine overnight tonight. we will have limited fog along our coastline. otherwise it's pretty clear out there as we head into tuesday with overnight lows generally in the 50s. now, a heat advisory will kick in here on tuesday, and it encompasses much of the north bay, the inland east bay and the south bay. basically everyone away from the coast where those temperatures will go about 10 to 20 degrees above average. we do expect our warmest cities again to hit about 100 degrees tomorrow afternoon. so here's the accuweather seven day forecast. we have a warming trend underway that peaks tomorrow. that heat advisory will cool off by thursday, but as we head into the weekend, we have some mild air, lots of sunshine again both saturday and sunday guys. >> all right. thanks, drew. coming up, the seven things to know this morning. >> the future of airport travel is one step closer to reality. the major hurdle just cleared for an electric air taxi

state anthony blinken set to return to the middle east to broker a ceasefire deal between israel and hamas. this is coming as frustrations over this war intensify. yesterday, one of benjamin netanyahu's war cabinet members resigned over his handling of the war. >> number six, today is apple's turn with i. the company is expected to make a big announcement at its worldwide developers conference today. in cupertino, you can expect siri to get a major overhaul and possibly a partnership with san francisco based openai number seven. >> the federal reserve expected to leave interest rates unchanged when it meets later this week. analysts say inflation is still too high for cuts. many believe the first cut won't be until september. well, it is a big step forward for an electric air taxi company in the south bay. san jose based archer now has critical approval from the faa. the company has a partnership with united airlines, and it eventually wants to fly on demand air taxis from major airports, including sfo, as soon as next year, they

take off and they land vertically like a helicopter. except you don't have all that noise and the polluting gas motors. archer's midnight aircraft still does need another certification before it can start to carry paying customers. there is a milestone moment happening across the bay area this summer. abc seven sports anchor chris alvarez explains a quarter century of excellence for warriors basketball academy this summer marks the 25th anniversary of the warriors basketball academy. >> jeff addiego has seen the growth from the very beginning. >> at the end of that summer, we kind of figured out we were on to something, and so from there it just took off and grew. every summer after that, we added 2 or 3 more sessions, 2 or 3 different locations. so the point now where we offer close to 100 camps a year, i had a lot of fun over the last three days. >> you guys have fun. yeah the buy in is organization wide with players attending the popular overnight camp in the summer. >> all right, make sure you know

officials in florida urging caution following more shark attacks. two people are hospitalized this morning. >> juneteenth celebrations starting early in san francisco. the parade and festival bringing thousands of people to market street and then to the lawn of city typekit. when i tell you it was a vibe, we had a time. >> i'm so glad. did you even have some sun? >> we got a little bit towards the end. >> you got a sliver. >> that's okay. all right. good morning everybody. it's monday, june 10th. we do have some breaking traffic news for you at the bay bridge toll plaza. >> amanda is following that this morning. >> yeah. good morning. reggie aqui kumasi. we're taking a live look at the bay bridge toll plaza, where you can see caltrans crews actively working to clear the scene of an earlier solo crash. a car was wedged between two toll booths. that happened at around 4:00 this morning. it's impacting lanes six through nine right now as they're trying to remove or really get things back to normal when we talk about the monday morning commute, it is going to be an issue. here's a live look

from our emeryville cam. you can see things kind of inching their way, cars inching their way to the toll plaza at this moment. and as the commute ramps up, it's going to be an even bigger headache. the good news is they have cleared that car that was wedged. the bad news is we did see one person get taken away on a stretcher. and so we're still trying to figure out exactly what happened. but we do have abc seven news reporter gloria rodriguez live on scene with a closer look. gloria a good morning. >> amanda. yeah. two lanes are blocked here at the bay bridge toll plaza. we know this area gets really busy as it is with all the traffic that moves through here, so this is definitely going to cause some backups this morning. you might be able to see the lights behind me. they are still working out here to clean up the mess here and try to reopen those two lanes. here's what we know so far about what happened. this is a solo car crash here at the bay bridge toll plaza, and we

actually saw a car wedged between two of the toll plaza booths and balance was here. a fire department was also here. and we also saw a tow truck removing that car. and actually, that car is still here in the parking lot where we are. the front side of the car is just completely smashed in right now. we do not know the driver's condition, but we have reached out to chp to see if they can get us some more information about what happened here. and of course, we want to know when those two lanes will reopen. but if you are driving through here this morning, give yourself a little bit more time because it may take longer to get through the toll plaza. live at the bay bridge toll plaza. gloria rodriguez, abc seven news. >> yeah, thanks, gloria, for that live report. we'll take you to our south beach camera. where we are seeing quite cloudy conditions on this first day of the new week. so we find a lot of cloud cover out there this morning with our current sky cover concord. right now the

only area currently reporting clear skies. but we will see a lot of sunshine today. we'll get a warming trend underway here that will peak tomorrow. right now to get you going, we're at 51 in the city, 54 in oakland, 58 in san jose. certainly take the jacket with you right now, but into the afternoon it will be a warm one. so we'll look inland first. we have sunny skies from the get go. we'll have temperatures topping out in the upper 80s to the lower 90s. by 3 p.m. gets even hotter here tomorrow with a heat advisory beginning tuesday morning. now around the bay shoreline, we have that cloud cover breaking for sunshine between about nine and 10 a.m. and then to the afternoon. it's bright and it's mild with highs in the mid 70s to the lower 80s. then as you head along the coast, it's pretty cloudy today. we'll see some peeks of sunshine trying to appear later on this afternoon, but daytime highs will be in the mid 50s to the low 60s. we'll take a closer look at that heat advisory coming up in about seven minutes. >> thank you. drew a series of sideshows, took over bay area streets over the weekend from san francisco into the east bay

we start in the east bay. you likely recognize where this is. it's right in front of the grand lake theater. you can see the fireworks that were involved, the sideshows in the east bay stretch from emeryville to oakland and south to san leandro . and look at this fiery scene in san francisco as a sideshow led to a car engulfed in flames along the embarcadero. this sideshow happened just after 2 a.m. sunday, right next door to the iconic ferry building. police say it started to break up once officers got there. it's unclear just how long that car was on fire. graffiti could be seen on the side of the pier. one lot, which is right next door to the ferry building and the area where the sideshow happened. a second sideshow occurred at valencia and cesar chavez street in san francisco in the mission district. police responded, but they say that no one was arrested. >> new details about a large brawl where a person was shot and killed at lake berryessa in napa county, and three other people were stabbed. it broke

out around 530 saturday night at the oak shores day use area on the western side of that popular summer weekend spot. of the three people who were stabbed, one of them is still in the hospital this morning. the man who was killed was identified yesterday as 39 year old andres sandoval garcia from vallejo. investigators say the gunman drove away from the scene but was detained a short time later. he is in the hospital recovering from stab wounds. napa sheriff oscar ortiz says that the fight involved two large groups that were not associated with one another. >> in that altercation, there was punches, there was bottles. there was, we believe, stab wounds. but as deputies arrived, they did find one victim who had suffered gunshot wounds. >> it's not clear how the fight started. the sheriff's office says the one suspect that's in the hospital will be booked into jail later this week. >> in the east bay, a safe haven for jewish students is getting

ready to reopen the uc berkeley by. it just went through a major renovation. often jewish undergrads have shared this co-op house for more than 40 years. students had to move out last year for structural repairs. jewish community leaders are glad to reopen the home after they say it's been a difficult school year. >> i think it's just about, you know, having sort of joyous, joyous jewish spaces, a place where people can come together, can uh, can have shabbat together to have holidays, and just sort of be in community together. >> students had to apply for spots in the home they'll move in when the new semester starts in august. now to israel's largest hostage rescue operation since the war with hamas began. four people taken out of central gaza this weekend in a heavy air and ground assault. that operation resulted in the deaths of many civilians and amanda frustration with the way the war is being run has reached top levels of the israeli government . >> yeah. and reggie, yesterday, one of the leading members of

prime minister benjamin netanyahu's war cabinet resigned, saying netanyahu is preventing israel from coming to a real victory against hamas. >> now, his resignation came just a day after the israeli military rescued those four hostages. during that mission in gaza. they'd been held for 274 days. the hamas run health ministry in gaza says at least 274 people were killed, including children and there are reports almost 700 were injured. israel is disputing those numbers, saying casualties stayed under 100, instead blaming hamas for using civilians as a shield. >> the tragedy of civilians being caught up in this is precisely because of how hamas is battling us on the battleground. our responsibility, our first and foremost responsibility, is to rescue the hostages. >> this week, us secretary of state antony blinken plans to return to the middle east in hopes of brokering a cease fire deal. last week, president biden publicly laid out what's on the

a live look as caltrans crews are continuing their work to restore the toll lanes that were impacted in an early morning solo crash. it happened around four this morning and already from our emeryville cam, you can see traffic is slow moving. we do want to get to some video shot earlier this morning where a car appeared to be wedged between two booths. you see it right there. that car has since been removed, but lane six through nine, those are still shut down closer to the toll booths. now, once you get through the toll booth, you will hit metering lights because those flipped on a short time ago as well before you eventually make your way into the city. but just a heads up for those heading into san francisco this morning. if you're watching this now, you may want to get an earlier
