now at six, a car crashing into a toll booth at the bay bridge toll plaza earlier this morning, this incident prompting crews to shut down some lanes just as the commute started. how it's impacting drivers right now showing support for an east bay ice cream vendor. >> the event to help a man who was robbed at gunpoint last

month in oakland. >> plus, pink triangle installation. hundreds of volunteers coming together to put it up over the weekend. the symbolic meaning behind the bright display. >> good morning to you. welcome to monday. it's june 10th. we want to get right with amanda for that traffic alert. >> we've been tracking for more than an hour now at the bay bridge toll plaza. amanda. yeah. >> so that crash happened this morning at 4:00. that car was wedged between the two tolls, as we were mentioning. but you can see this is a live look from our emeryville camera right now showing you traffic seems to be at a standstill. at least it looks like it is, except on the carpool lanes there. i do want to give you a closer look at what's going on at the scene where you can see those caltrans crews working to really repair that area. this was a solo car crash. as we mentioned, one person was taken away on a stretcher, it seems, and the big issue that we're seeing is there's still two lanes that are shut down right now, or at least

in the last ten minutes. we can't say that six and nine, those two lanes have reopened. so it's really just seven and eight that are still shut down at this moment. we do have abc seven news reporter gloria rodriguez on scene with a closer look for us at what's going on. gloria, good morning. >> good morning. amanda. yeah, they have just reopened. opened two lanes. so right now two lanes are closed here at the bay bridge toll plaza. this is causing some big backups here this morning. right now, the backup is to west grand avenue. so if you do drive through the bay bridge toll plaza, keep in mind it might take you a little bit longer today. we have some footage shortly after this crash happened. this is a solo car crash. we saw cars sideways with the back of the car up on the divider and wedged in between two of the toll plaza booths. an ambulance was here, as well as a fire department, a tow truck removed the car and the front side of the car was smashed in.

right now we do not know the driver's condition. i have reached out to chp to try to get more information on what happened here, what time they're thinking they're going to reopen all the lanes and we're still working to get that information for you. live at the bay bridge toll plaza. gloria rodriguez, abc seven news. >> gloria. thank you. now we get a check of the forecast with drew. >> hey. good morning. we are taking a look at clouds out there this morning. a live look from our sutro tower. the sun is up here and we will have a lot of sunshine today. and today will begin a warming trend that will peak here tomorrow. right now, look at sky conditions. most areas reporting that june gloom to start out our day concord though does have sunshine. we will get a lot of sunshine as we head deeper into the day. now temperatures will get you going. we're in the 50s right now, so light jacket, your best friend. you don't need it all day because we warm up pretty nicely as we head over the next couple of hours. so we'll begin inland today. we have those clear skies from the start, will be into the 70s by 11 a.m, and then later on this

afternoon we'll have those temperatures maxing out in the low 90s in our warmest cities. tomorrow, a heat advisory will be in effect here for even hotter temperatures, so we'll see an above average start to the week. looking at the bay shoreline, we have those clouds giving way to sunshine close to about 10 a.m. we'll find afternoon highs in the mid and upper 70s for the most part. and then along the coast we will have that cloud cover, some peeks of sunshine here and there, and highs in the upper 50s to the lower 60s. >> kumasi thank you. drew in the north bay. today is the official start of wildfire season. according to a declaration made by santa rosa fire. the department says the declaration is necessary due to recent warm, dry weather and increased fire activity. this is coming as cal fire officials warn that the heat in the coming days is going to dry out the landscape. they're worried that this will create more fuel for wildfires when they happen. some fire departments are already calling in more firefighters for the season. >> we've actually elevated our staffing levels a couple weeks early, so we have reached our peak staffing levels, and that's

just based on the conditions and the activity that we've started to see recently. >> officials say that other firefighting units throughout the state are following suit and upping their staffing levels. >> crews have contained a fire that burned close to a group of homes in pittsburgh yesterday. the start as a structure fire at a local theater company's warehouse. it grew to about 50 acres. crews attacked the building first, but then moved to contain the flames once it spread to vegetation nearby. it's the fifth fire, totaling. more than 40 acres have burned in the last eight days in the bay area. happening today former president donald trump is scheduled for a virtual interview with the new york city probation officer following his conviction in the hush money trial against him last month. amanda. this interview will play a role in his sentencing, and it comes after trump spent the weekend on the campaign trail. >> yeah, reggie, former president donald trump is expected to attend this interview virtually from his home in florida. >> his lawyer will be with him. we know this weekend, trump arrived in florida. this happened last night after attending a campaign event in

las vegas. this was his first large scale rally since his conviction. things didn't go exactly as planned, though. six people were taken to the hospital due to extreme heat, and throughout the rally, trump complained about technical issues, including the teleprompter not working. despite the challenges, trump did announce his plan to end taxes on tips people earn. he also criticized president biden's recent immigration executive action limiting the asylum process. it's weak. >> it's ineffective. the first thing we're going to do is we're going to close that border tight as a drum, and we're going to let people come in, but only legally. >> trump made similar immigration promises during his 2016 campaign, but was unable to fulfill them as president. meanwhile, president biden is back home after traveling to france last week to mark the 80th anniversary of d-day. and while there, mr. biden stressed the importance of standing up for democracy, especially as russia continues its war in ukraine. back to you, kumasi.

thank you amanda. >> this morning, the process to permanently shut down operations at golden gate fields is officially underway. horses ran their last races on the track along the berkeley albany border yesterday. the track is closing as the track's owner focuses its on its southern california racetrack. golden gate fields has been in operation for 83 years. one fan drove from lake tahoe to spend one last afternoon at the track. she remembers as a kid, i've been coming to the track here since, since the 1948, great, great memories and i hate to see it go, but i know it's a sign of the times. this closure comes at a time when the popularity of horse racing is down. an awareness about the treatment of animals is higher. the number of horses bred for racing is less than half of what it was in 1990, as the final races were taking place, animal rights activists held a funeral procession for the horses who died there. an uplifting show of support in oakland over the

weekend for an ice cream vendor who was brutally attacked while on the job. >> 50 year old felipe ramos bautista was crossing the street two weeks ago when he got robbed. bautista moved to the bay area recently and only started serving ice cream about 45 days before this attack. the local community hosted a sell out for him yesterday. after a few hours, he sold out close to 300 frozen treats, sometimes when people get robbed, they don't have no one, you know, no one to get help from. >> so we wanted to step up and help them. >> a group of other vendors also joined in all of their proceeds went directly to bautista in order to get him back on his feet. as for the robbery, oakland pd still looking for the suspect in that case, a well deserved celebration for a group of female farm workers along the peninsula, san mateo county and the nonprofit alas hosted a ceremony honoring the women yesterday as part of their farm worker heroes event at the san mateo county fair. >> your photos and stories are

breezy out there. we will have temperatures about a few degrees above average even along the coast. 70 in san francisco with 75 in oakland, 86 in san jose, 90 in santa rosa, 93 in antioch. your weather wellness showing you good to moderate air quality . be aware though, just got the latest pollen levels in grasses are back to high levels. unfortunately tomorrow though, a heat advisory is going to kick in for one day of hot temperatures as we'll show you those numbers coming up in eight minutes. but let's check in with amanda. she has some developing news at the bay bridge toll plaza. >> yeah. drew we're seeing the first couple of cars kind of head through the problem lanes, and i'm saying problem because they were shut down since about four this morning. specifically lanes seven and eight. they reopened in just the last few minutes, but it is still going to be slow moving as you approach the bay bridge toll plaza. because of that solo crash that we've been following since about four this morning. uh- crash was wedged between two toll booths, and as emergency crews worked to get it clear,

they shut down four lanes and they worked to one remove that car and then really restore the area. so that other drivers can then add that to their morning commute. i want to take a live look again just at conditions. now we know that things are very slow moving, especially for those making their way onto the bay bridge past the toll plaza. you are going to hit metering lights as well. so if you are heading into the city, be sure to leave just a bit earlier. we are still working to figure out the condition of that driver. we did see that driver being taken away on a stretcher earlier this morning, but once again in the last few minutes, all clear. things are definitely recovering as the morning commute begins to wrap up. kumasi. >> thank you amanda. honoring visionary voices a ceremony highlighting excellence in storytelling. apple and i. what to expect from the cupertino company's annual worldwide developers conference today and electric air taxis approval a south bay company just got. and

of the ai boom. this is the first day of trading for santa clara based nvidia. nvidia, after a ten for one stock split. so that means there are now ten times as many shares, each costing one tenth of what they did friday when the split was initiated. so it's about 120 bucks a share. nvidia's share price has surged more than 190%

in this last year, which has put it out of reach for many people. this morning, it is apple's turn when it comes to artificial intelligence. ai is expected to be a big part of the company's annual worldwide developers conference in cupertino and amanda. it could include a collaboration with the biggest name in ai. >> yeah, kumasi open ai, the san francisco company behind chatgpt, is the major collaborator. a lot of people are talking about here. bloomberg was the first to report this. the feature will reportedly be a chatbot powered by openai. apple is also expected to be infusing ai into its virtual assistant, siri. the changes are being described as making siri smarter and making photos, music and texting a more productive and entertaining experience. this will likely all be available on the new apple operating systems coming later this year. wwdc is typically a software event, so don't expect any big announcements about new products. the event begins at 10 a.m. and can be watched on

apple.com. back to you at the desk. >> thank you amanda. now to the pride month celebrations across the bay area as abc7 celebrates pride all year long, the oakland lgbtq cultural center held its first ever rainbow fair near lake merritt over the weekend. this event was free, family friendly, connecting the community to resources and to friends. people came to eat, dance, and learn about the center's services. >> many people used to defer to san francisco to go for resources and services. but oakland, our center, has grown dramatically and we now serve thousands of people per year. oakland is such a diverse city, and so i just think that we are. that is the secret sauce of oakland, and it really helps people to feel welcome. and a part of our city. >> grammy award winner and disco legend thelma houston and famous dance artist thea austin performed at the event. >> a big pride celebration took

place up on san francisco's twin peaks over the weekend. the annual pink triangle is now shining bright on the hillside. more than 600 volunteers put together the 29th edition of the triangle on saturday. as you can see, there was a lot of fog that morning, but it didn't deter them. it takes about 170 pink tarps to create the installation. that's roughly an acre long. originally, used the pink triangle to label and shame gay prisoners in concentration camps. today, we've taken the symbol over as a part of resistance and hope and love. >> this event reminds us of the terrible history of the pink triangle, but it's being used and flipped and remixed in order to elevate this community and bring us together. >> organizers also say the triangle is taking on renewed meaning, with personal freedoms under attack across the nation, the pink triangle will stay up

north bay. it's warm if not getting hot. 90 in santa rosa, 81 in san rafael, we'll go to 87 in napa, 72 in sausalito, the east bay. we have clouds right now breaking for sunshine close to 9 a.m. 75 in oakland, 82 in fremont, 83 in orinda. and then we're getting hot inland today. 95 in brentwood, 90 in concord, 86 in san ramon. overnight tonight, we'll have clear skies away from the coast and overnight lows in the 50s. looking at our heat risk tomorrow, we do have a heat advisory in effect just for one day. so the heat risk is moderate to major in some spots because we'll have temperatures away from the coast getting well into the 90s, if not surpassing 100 degrees. thankfully, this heat does not last long. we're already cooling off by wednesday and temperatures back to average by thursday. so here's the accuweather seven-day forecast. we're warming up today with that heat advisory. tomorrow. we still stay mild to warm on wednesday, but we get significantly cooler here with a breeze on thursday and then the weekend. expect mild sunshine both saturday and sunday. hi,

amanda. hi, drew. >> yeah. photojournalist steve stifter giving us a live view from drone view seven here at the bay bridge toll plaza, where you can see it is jam packed. one because of the early morning commute, but two because of residual delays. after that solo morning crash, a car ended up wedged between two toll booths. that happened at four this morning, really only clearing the area. caltrans cleared the area just about 20 minutes ago, so at the top of the hour, we started to see those two lanes that were that remained closed, then reopened. but here, the drone view seven, giving you a larger look at just this backup that we're talking about. we know that one person was taken away from the scene of the crash on a stretcher. we're still waiting to hear back from chp about that person's condition, but they meaning caltrans has worked on this scene for the last two hours, just opening again in the last 20 to 30 minutes. back to you at the desk. >> thanks, amanda. now we're going to bring in ginger zee

delays. we do have a live reporter on scene. abc seven news reporter gloria rodriguez has a closer look and all the details that you need to know. good morning. gloria >> good morning amanda. yeah, the good news is all lanes are back open right now here at the bay bridge toll plaza. bad news, however, is that there are still some major delays right now. the backup to powell street. so if you drive through this area, keep in mind it might take you a little bit longer today we have some drone footage that we want to show you right now. our photographer stefan stifter took this footage as all the lanes reopened and you could see the cars moving through all the toll plaza booths, but still very slowly after that crash, it was reported at the bay bridge toll plaza around 4:00 this morning, and we saw a car with a back up on the divider and wedged in between two of the toll plaza booths. an ambulance was here as well as a fire department, and we also saw a tow truck removing

the car. the front side was just completely smashed in and we saw the driver being taken away on a stretcher right now we don't know the driver's condition. we have reached out to chp to get more information on that. we're waiting to hear back. but again, all lanes are back open here at the bay bridge toll plaza. but there are huge delays here. this morning. live at the bay bridge toll plaza. gloria rodriguez, abc seven news. >> gloria. thank you. now check on the weather with meteorologist drew tuma. >> hey there. reggie. good morning. we are starting out with a decent deck of cloud cover upstairs. here's a live look. this is our santa cruz camera. this morning where it's pretty cloudy out there. look at current sky conditions inland. we have lots of sunshine this morning, but most areas from the city to oakland to the south bay. we do begin with some cloud cover and temperatures. right now we're mainly in the 50s from san jose to hayward at 57. good morning. danville coming in at 53 degrees into the north bay 50s for novato. napa a little bit warmer in calistoga, clear lake and cloverdale. starting out the day in the low 60s, a

light jacket is your best accessory out the door. but we do warm up pretty fast inland. looking at our inland temperatures. we'll have a lot of sunshine today. by the afternoon, you can see we're in the low 90s for daytime highs around the bay shoreline. we have a little bit of cloud cover right now breaking down for sunshine close to 9 a.m. and then into the afternoon. it is sunny. it is breezy with temperatures mainly in the 70s. then along the coast we have a fair amount of cloud cover right now. get a little bit of sunshine this afternoon. highs in the upper 50s to the lower 60s. a heat advisory will be in effect tomorrow. kumasi. we'll show you that coming up in seven minutes. >> thank you. drew new this morning. moderna announcing a major milestone in its attempt to create a viable combination shot to cover flu and covid 19. amanda has more on what they're revealing this morning. >> yeah, kumasi moderna is working on that combination shot in hopes to make it a little easier come flu season. right now, there are still some steps they would have to take in order for it to become publicly available. however, the company says the results for mrna 1083

are promising. about 8000 people received the 2 in 1 vaccine in a randomized late stage clinical trial. moderna says older adults had a stronger immune response with the combo shot than some other readily available individual vaccines designed to protect against the flu and covid 19. the vaccine maker would still need to apply for fda approval. if approved, the centers for disease control and prevention would then get involved. now, those people who participated in the clinical trials say they did report some side effects with the shot. some had symptoms like muscle pain, headaches and fatigue. but derna also plans to share its findings at an upcoming medical conference and submit the information in a peer reviewed medical journal. back to you. thanks amanda. >> a series of sideshows took place over the weekend from san francisco into the east bay

handful of sideshows in the east bay, including right in front of the grand lake theater. you can see the fireworks that were involved. the sideshows in the east bay stretch from emeryville to oakland and south to san leandro. now we'll take you to san francisco, where, as you can see in just a moment here, there is a car that's on fire along the embarcadero. you might recognize the background. this happened just after 2 a.m. sunday, right next to the iconic ferry building. police say it started to break up once officers got there. it's unclear how long that car was on fire. we could also see graffiti on the side of the pier. one lot, which is right next door to the ferry building and the area where the sideshow happened. and then there was a second sideshow in san francisco, this one at valencia, and cesar chavez and the mission district police responded. no one was arrested in any of these sideshows. >> new details about a large brawl where a person was shot and killed at lake berryessa in napa county. three other people were stabbed. thisight broke out around 530 saturday night at the oaks shores day use area on

the western side of this popular summer weekend spot of the three people who were stabbed, one is still in the hospital this morning. the man who was killed was identified yesterday as 39 year old andres sandoval garcia from vallejo. investigators say the gunman drove away from that scene but was detained a short time later. he is in the hospital now recovering from stab wounds. napa sheriff oscar ortiz says the fight involved two large groups that were not associated with one another in that altercation, there was a punches, there was bottles. >> there was, we believe, stab wounds. but as deputies arrived, they did find one victim who had suffered gunshot wounds. >> it's not clear exactly how this fight started. the sheriff's office says the one suspect in the hospital will be booked into jail later this week in the east bay, a safe haven for jewish students getting ready to reopen the uc berkeley by. >> it just went through a major

traffic is barely moving as people approach the toll plaza, and that's because they are facing not only the monday morning commute, but also residual delays. after an early morning solo crash. that crash happened after a car was wedged between two toll booths. that was at four this morning and then at six. caltrans crews officially cleared the scene. that car was removed. one person was taken away on a stretcher, but that residual those residual issues were still facing something important to note. typically on monday and friday, people are working from home, so you don't really see this type of traffic as you head into the city. so leave early if you're coming from the east bay because this is not like anything you've seen in the last few weeks. just take it easy because it's going it's going really slow, as you can see right there. and we also want to get to a heads up for more east bay drivers starting at ten tonight, one of the two eastbound tunnels will be closed

for three nights specifically for work. it will be the left tunnel known as bore to. the work will happen until 430 the next morning. crews will be doing maintenance after a car fire. we know that that happened last week. this work will happen again tomorrow night and wednesday night. the right tunnel will remain open and then at the live desk. i'm tracking the israel-hamas war over the weekend. israel completed a major hostage rescue operation, bringing four people home from gaza. but it resulted in the deaths of civilians. and yesterday, one of the leading members of prime minister benjamin netanyahu's war cabinet resigned, saying netanyahu is preventing israel from coming to a real victory against hamas. his resignation came just a day after the israeli military rescued those four hostages. during that mission in gaza. they've been held for 274 days. the hamas run health ministry in gaza says at least 274 people were killed, including children,
