cease fire deal in the war. >> staying vigilant during high fire danger and getting paid to do it. the anonymous firework buyback event happening again this summer, just weeks ahead of the 4th of july holiday, and pandas back on the agenda in san francisco. >> the conversations happening in city hall later today. >> good morning. it's tuesday, june 11th to start the check of our forecast with drew. >> yes. so today we have a one day warm up with that heat advisory kicking in here at 11 a.m. so it's areas away from the coast. it's all those shaded in orange a big chunk of the north bay. the inland east bay and the south bay where these hot temperatures today will give us the increased risk of some heat related illnesses out there. right now we have patchy cloud cover. it's not nearly as cloudy this morning as we were yesterday. in fact, the current sky conditions, a lot of areas reporting clear skies like oakland, san jose and concord. so any cloud cover right now is quickly going to evaporate late this morning. and we're in store for full sunshine and some warm

temperatures. right now we're in the 50s and low 60s as we get you going on this tuesday. so inland it's going to feel hot out there. we have a lot of sunshine today, temperatures in the mid and upper 90s for daytime, highs around the bay shoreline. you could probably start with a light jacket the first couple of hours today, but certainly dress for summer. we'll see temperatures in the mid 80s for a lot of us around the bay, shoreline and along the coast. it is going to be pleasant. a lot more sunshine today compared to yesterday, upper 50s to the lower 60s. let's check in with amanda and see how the commute is going. yeah. >> good morning drew a check of drive times here at the top of the hour. you're getting around just fine at this time, tracy. to dublin. that's going to take you about 36 minutes. san rafael to san francisco 16 minutes and a 15 minute drive to get from antioch to concord. and you can see headlights heading westbound here on the east shore freeway, 26 minutes from highway four to san francisco. back to you at the desk. >> happening today. a key vote to bring giant pandas to san francisco. the board of supervisors will consider changes to the mayor's fundraising efforts. that's

money needed to upgrade the zoo in order to host the pandas. abc seven news reporter gloria rodriguez here with a look at the plan. gloria, animal activists are also raising concerns about the reality of caring for the animals. >> they are. reggie. several animal rights groups have been opposed to the plan. they say the zoo is outdated and has other problems to deal with before adding more animals. so they're planning a protest ahead of today's meeting. the mayor has really been trying to highlight how positive this could be for the city and how it could be one a part of bringing more people back to san francisco. but she needs to raise $25 million to pay for a new pen enclosure and other upgrades at the zoo. and she's proposing an exemption to a city policy to allow her office to raise money from private donors. some supervisors had raised questions about whether that could create a conflict of interest for her, and they initially postponed a vote on the proposal, asking for changes . and ultimately, last week, the board's government audit and oversight committee voted unanimously to recommend an amended fundraising plan. it

includes an ethics rules waiver, and it will require more transparency, including a public list of donors. today's meeting starts at two in the afternoon, and the pandas would arrive next year. live in the studio. gloria rodriguez, abc seven news. >> thank you, gloria. this morning, pro-palestinian groups are vowing to keep fighting to stop the biden administration from providing money and weapons to israel to use in the war against hamas. yesterday, they held a rally outside the federal court building in san francisco. inside, their attorneys filed an appeal to a ruling that dismissed a lawsuit they filed late last year. they claimed president biden and other top officials are complicit in the deaths of thousands of palestinians. >> so let this moment be a testament to our collective resolve and let it echo through the halls of power and across the globe that we will not rest until every child in gaza can sleep in peace. every family can rebuild their lives, and every man and woman can live in dignity and freedom.

>> when the lawsuit was dismissed, the court ruled that while it was possible israel's conduct amounts to genocide, u.s. foreign policy was a political issue and the court lacked legal jurisdiction. more clashes at ucla last night between police and pro-palestinian protesters as the group set up three encampments yesterday. but last night officers tried to get them into a narrow pathway which then led to the clashes. police say some people in the crowd dove through the bushes and made their own path to get away. about 25 protesters were arrested for willful disruption of university operations. they've since been released and they have to stay away from ucla property for 14 days. at least one security officer was injured this morning. >> we're seeing new images from gaza showing the moment israeli forces rescued four hostages held by hamas. a man that we've learned this operation was dramatic and undercover. >> now reggie, israeli special forces called out, quote, they got the diamonds after their

mission. >> diamonds was the code word for hostages. these new images show the moment they stormed a residential building in gaza to free some of the hostages, sources tell abc news. israeli special forces had gone undercover disguised as palestinian refugees. they waited for the green light to execute their mission. the idf says it launched the airstrikes after they came under fire. now, palestinian officials in gaza say 274 people were killed during the operation. the idf disputes that number families of the rescued hostages were overjoyed to finally be reunited with their loved ones. >> i slept all night with a smile. what a big relief. that's what i want to happen for all the families of the hostages. >> secretary of state antony blinken is in the region pushing for a ceasefire. he's pleading with allies to pressure hamas

into accepting terms put forward in recent days, which he says israel has accepted. the us is considering a new strategy to try to free the eight americans still held in gaza. the biden administration is reportedly considering direct negotiations with hamas. those talks would not include israel. back to you at the desk, amanda. >> thank you. we've been following the story of a little boy who was attacked by an unleashed dog in san francisco. now we know the owners of the dog have been cited. the dog's fate is still undecided. surveillance video caught the attack on camera. the three year old was walking home with his nanny in the cow hollow neighborhood when the dog charged at him. in a statement, san francisco police said the owners were cited by animal care and control for failure to provide information after a dog bite and failure to report a dog bite to the department of animal, animal care and control. now, the city will schedule a hearing where the dog's fate will be decided, including possible euthanasia, animal care and control says the city's process is focused on the dog,

not necessarily the owners. >> there's nothing happening to the owners, and if we want to hold the owners accountable, we have to file separately through the civil court, which could be time consuming and probably have a financial impact. so a lot of people shy away from that. and as a result, nothing happens to the owners. >> according to city records, the citation for a dog owner is about $90. jail time is a possibility in the most extreme cases. >> if you see a crime and reported in parts of san mateo county, you could soon get a cash reward. county supervisors are set to consider a proposal today aimed at cracking down on residential burglaries. supervisor ray mueller announced this plan yesterday surrounded by officers, police officers and county prosecutors. he's calling on his colleagues to approve $125,000 to fund a residential burglary reward program. it would help gather information during criminal investigations. >> turns would be criminals will now know, should they choose to

invade the sanctity of a person's home. here in san mateo county, every person with knowledge about their crime directly or indirectly, will have a strong financial incentive to share that information with the authorities to bring them to justice. >> if this is approved, the reward program will be implemented in eight san mateo county cities, as well as the unincorporated parts of district three, which supervisor mueller represents. >> if you're having second thoughts about illegal fireworks you may have bought for the 4th of july, a san mateo county has you covered. this month, the county is having its second ever anonymous firework buyback event. there will be three events this month in different parts of the county. all you have to do is show up and drop off your supply. no questions is our bomb unit will be on site for safety purposes. >> uh- the illegal fireworks are weighed and based on their weight, you can receive up to $200. >> the san mateo county sheriff's office says last year's event was extremely successful. they credit the

event with the drop in calls for service on the 4th of july. so here are this month's events that go from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on each saturday. for the rest of june. the first is in half moon bay, then south san francisco and redwood city. >> 509 this morning we're looking at our okay camera this morning, reporting clear skies over oakland, which is a big difference from yesterday morning where we had a lot of cloud cover. winds are light out of the north at five miles per hour. the travel forecast it is really quiet across the country today. you see no big issues when it comes to any severe weather. you'll see a lot of sunshine in most cities and temperatures at or just slightly above average, so you should have no problems getting to where you're going in the skies today. if you're staying here locally, it is going to be a warm day. we have a heat advisory that begins at 11 a.m. you can see our warmest areas going into the 90s, a much warmer afternoon compared to yesterday, average this time of the year, 60 seventys and 80. so our warmest area is about 15 to 16 degrees above average for

toll plaza traffic. as you can see, flowing normally after a crash disrupted the morning commute yesterday, you first saw it here on abc seven mornings that pre-dawn crashed into the bay bridge toll plaza. you can see the video. it shows the car wedged between two toll booths in this person being taken away on a stretcher this morning. their condition is still unknown, but here is what the bay bridge could look like without toll booths. there are plans to remove the booths at all state owned bridges, since tolls are collected electronically by fastrak. caltrans previously announced it was delaying the removal of the booths until february of 2026. it wants to upgrade the automatic toll collection system and remove the booths at the same time, the metropolitan transportation commission says

the bay bridge will be the final location of the toll booth removal because it's the most complex. >> following a successful rollout last year, san francisco's vacant to vibrant program is making a comeback this summer, with 11 new businesses and seven other businesses in the program have signed long term leases. it's this morning's building a better bay area breakthrough. abc seven news reporter tim johns explains how these small pop ups are getting a great start while filling up downtown. reporter. >> at roslyn bakery business over the past year or so has been good. last year, owner matthew kosoy says the bakery was chosen to be a part of san francisco's vacant to vibrant program, an initiative that helps pop up businesses set up permanently in the city. >> with the help of things like free rent and grant money. >> matthew credits the program for helping him expand his business from rosalyn's factory in pacifica to a cafe in the heart of san francisco. >> being president in san francisco has provided more exposure for my company's name and ultimately, my business,

matthew tells me. >> he signed a five year lease back in january for this cafe here in san francisco's embarcadero center, one of several vacant, vibrant businesses who have done so in this area. those original, vacant to vibrant businesses are set to be joined by even more this year. the city has selected 11 additional businesses, including a florist and an art shop to sponsor. starting this month, help that matthew says will be greatly appreciated given the ever increasing costs of running a small enterprise. >> we've seen all of our costs go up, labor costs is at an all time high, but the vacant to vibrant program is only one way san francisco is attempting to help small shops. >> in addition to reforming the tax system, the san francisco chamber of commerce says the city is actively trying to cut red tape. >> the city of san francisco has really worked hard to try to streamline the permitting process for small businesses that want to open up the chamber of commerce and other groups have been helpful to create a pathway and help people navigate what what is a complex system and opening a business, helping one of san francisco's most struggling neighborhoods get back to its pre-pandemic glory,

while also improving the lives of everyday people. >> it's been very helpful. i would not have been able to open up a second retail location for my business if it wasn't for vacant vibrant. >> the second group of vacant, vibrant businesses will open their doors on june 18th in san francisco. tim johns abc seven news. >> the city of san francisco rolled out a new vision for powell street. so far, they have a plan for three blocks stretching from market to union square. and if you've been there recently, you know that it's a lot of empty storefronts. designs call for refreshed sidewalks and upgraded parklets with more space for pedestrians. there's also this idea do you see here on the screen? it's a massive new light feature above powell on market that's supposedly inspired by the cable cars. i don't know what that means, but it's a light. the city has set aside $4 million last summer to redesign and start construction on this first phase. >> the oscars of the food world just snubbed the bay area for the second year in a row. the

james beard foundation named its award winners and not a single bay area restaurant or chef tacoma win. the best chef california award went to lord maynard llera of los angeles, filipino restaurant kuya lord. there were two bay area finalists in that category. the honor for outstanding wine program went to lucia drake wine parlor in south carolina, which beat out san francisco's pacific cocktail haven. >> you know, it's nice to get an award, but we know. yeah, you just know we have incredible restaurants and places to go. i know, you know, it's okay. >> we're not pressed. >> you know, we'll spread the love among other restaurants. but we know just yesterday we're talking about. >> i guess i'm confused. what does that mean? we're not getting anything. >> zero. we were on the finalist list, but we did not win. we did not secure it. somebody beat us. >> but we're also the bay area. that's okay. >> that's okay. >> the culinary delight of a weekend i had eating around the bay area. have it. yeah. i mean,

because i ate so well, be bopping around. i mean, there's so many places that's why it seems food is so good. >> yeah, it seems shady to me, but okay, a little bit. >> there's a lot of competition, but we know the real ones. now. this morning the sutro tower will find just a little bit of cloud cover out there. this morning we are in store for a warm afternoon. so you take a look at the summer spread. it's mild along the coast. even the coast today is going to see a fair amount of sunshine. so if you're thinking of going there to get some heat relief going to be a nice afternoon with 64 and half moon bay, we'll jump to 72 downtown in the city, near 80 in oakland today. and then you go through the tunnel and it is hot inland. walnut creek 95, antioch, up to 98 degrees. so the heat risk today it's moderate to some pockets of major as you move away from the coast. that's the orange and some pockets of red you see on your screen. but it's only for one day. it's a brief spike in our afternoon temperatures and then cooler weather will move in here tomorrow. so that heat advisory in effect today, 80s

and 90s in the south bay, 90 in san jose, 95 in morgan hill, los gatos, lots of sunshine along the peninsula, 66 pacifica, but near 90. in redwood city, 82 in palo alto, across the city today, upper 60s to the mid 70s with a lot of sunshine. today a light breeze out there. it is hot in the north bay. we'll go from 91 in san rafael to 96, in santa rosa to 101 in cloverdale, 90 in napa. today, the east bay. it is bright and it is warm, 79 in oakland, but 86 in union city, 88 in castro valley. and then those temperatures jump even more well into the 90s inland. but this is just one day of these warm to hot temperatures, 95 in walnut creek, 96 in concord, 98 the high in brentwood and antioch. you know, if you have a warm afternoon, it's a mild evening ahead. we'll take a brief pause. in any fog, that means we'll have those temperatures still in the 60s as we approach midnight tonight. so overnight tonight, just a little bit of patchy fog. around half moon bay. otherwise, we do have clear skies and

$0.09 a gallon nationwide. oil is also heading down. it's down a little more than 1% in overnight trading. >> today is national. call your doctor day. the nonprofit bright pink established the second tuesday of june as the day for women to schedule their annual wellness exam. organizers say women are often so busy with work and caring for others, they delay their own checkups. now, these days, of course, you don't have to call your doctor. you can just go online. but the point is still the same new developments in the fight against alzheimer's. a new treatment just got an early green light from fda advisers. the newest experimental drug is called donanemab. it targets plaque that builds up in the brain. studies found it slowed cognitive decline for patients in the early stages of alzheimer's. the drug does have significant safety risks, including swelling and bleeding in the brain. yesterday an fda committee found the consequences of alzheimer's are so severe that they outweigh any danger

that potentially gives them more time to stay independent, to make decisions for themselves, and to live well with alzheimer's disease is an estimated 7 million americans are living with alzheimer's. the fda still has to give a final approval for that new drug. >> a bike ride nearly ends in tragedy for a bay area native. about three months ago, she was in a coma and now juney smith is back on her feet. a driver hit juney while she was on a bike ride near the campus of uc davis. >> that was in march. jenny ended up with a head injury so bad that she lost her memory. her teammates on the uc davis cycling team say jenny was riding in a tricky spot when that crash happened. the head injury landed jenny in a coma for five weeks. it has been a long recovery process. now she is finally back home in san francisco, getting support from her older sister and family. >> like a few weeks ago, you couldn't remember what had

>> happening today, bringing giant pandas to san francisco and trying to get the money to make it happen. the board of supervisors will consider amendments to the mayor's fund raising plan. abc7 news reporter gloria rodriguez is here. and, gloria, not everyone attending the meeting is in favor of this. >> that's right. reggie. now, if the mayor can get this done, it will be the first time since 1985 that pandas will be making a home in san francisco. she's been keeping it a positive outlook despite facing some roadblocks recently. she made it past one of the first hurdles that was getting china to agree to send them. and now she's making headway on a second hurdle, and that is the funding she needs to raise. $25 million to upgrade the zoo and wants to fund it all with private money to do that, mayor breed needs a waiver that will allow several city departments to solicit donations. she has faced some pushback from supervisors, who were concerned that it would create a conflict of interest within the mayor's office. last week, the board's government audit and oversight committee voted unanimously to recommend

that an amended fundraising plan and it includes an ethics rules waiver and it will require more transparency, including a public list of donors. today, that plan goes before the full board, but before they have a chance to vote, they will be faced with several animal rights groups who do not want the pandas to come here. the watchdog group sf zoo watch is planning to go to today's meeting, and the head, justin barker, told abc seven last month that the zoo is in desperate need of repairs this point that this zoo is not meeting the needs of its animals and bringing pandas here is a terrible decision. animal rights groups want to see the zoo improve conditions for other animals. the san francisco zoo released a statement in response to the concerns, which read in part, concerns about our zoo's conditions are unfounded as we undergo regular inspections by various regulatory bodies. these independent inspections are thorough and encompass aspects such as animal enclosures and

exhibit spaces. and if you want to see how this all plays out, the meeting starts at two this afternoon. if everything works out, the pandas would arrive in san francisco next year. live in the studio gloria rodriguez abc seven news. thank you gloria. >> we continue to follow the controversy around the center running bike lane on san francisco's valencia street. in the mission, the sfmta is looking to get a side running bike lane concept approved by the city's transportation board. but there are reportedly two concepts in the works, according to the chronicle. one design would keep parklets and for cyclists to ride around them closer to traffic. the other would have floating parklets where cyclists ride between the curb, and the parklets. it's not clear which design is going to be considered by the board, but the concept is expected to be discussed at the next board meeting that's held on june 18th. we are learning mayor brees proposal to create california's first ever entertainment zone in downtown san francisco and it could happen as soon as labor day if

everything goes according to plan. the area we're talking about would be on front street from california to sacramento. the proposal is moving forward, but city supervisors still need to approve the mayor's legislation, and the state legislature is working on its own legislation to make it easier for businesses to sell alcohol outside their front doors during events in the east bay. >> oakland police are asking anyone with information to come forward after two shootings killed three teenagers early yesterday morning, and so far, no one's been arrested. the shootings happened within an hour. one victim was found near ninth and fbert around 130 in the morning. the other two were believed to be shot near 102nd and international boulevard around 2 a.m. their deaths marked the 30th 38th, i should say, 39th and 40th homicides of the year. local community leaders are calling for additional help and resources for east bay youth. >> when i was coming up in the 80s, if a person had a gun, it was probably one person in six people with one gun. now it
