>> yes, it was hot yesterday. you see it a lot cooler today. yesterday our hottest areas hit 101 102. today it is dramatically cooler out there. but we are reaping the benefits of that high pressure. still, with clear skies out there this morning, a live look from our exploratorium camera showing you we are fog free here. in fact, most locations reporting clear skies across the city the south bay, the north bay, just a little bit of cloud cover around half moon bay right now. otherwise we will have a lot of sunshine today, but we had a front move through that is going to usher in some cooler weather this afternoon, right now, 50s close to the coast, but 60s and low 70s are still out there, and our warmest areas inland. so speaking of inland, not nearly as hot as we were yesterday. yesterday we hit 101 102 in our hottest cities. today we'll stay in the 80s. so you'll notice that cooler air moving in, it's a nice looking day. we have a lot of sunshine out there around the bay shoreline cooler than yesterday. sunny skies prevail. will be in the mid 70s for daytime highs and then along the

coast with a little bit of cloud cover. right now we'll see a sunny afternoon, but it is going to be cooler than yesterday with highs in the upper 50s. let's check in with amanda, see what's going. >> good morning drew. here at 501 you can see our overall map showing pretty clear conditions minus that typical slowdown on the altamont pass. it is slow between 200 and 5 and north flynn road here to take a drive. times tracy to dublin 41. that's on the altamont pass. we're just mentioning san rafael to san francisco. 17 minutes and 14 minutes from antioch to concord. reggie. thank you amanda. >> new developments san jose just passed a budget including a major change in priorities in the hopes of seeing immediate change. the city has been tasked with combating homelessness or risk some serious fines. abc seven news reporter gloria rodriguez is here with the new action the city is taking to try and solve a problem that so many bay area cities are facing. >> good morning reggie. despite a tough fiscal year, the san jose city council unanimously passed a multi-billion dollar budget 120 million of the $5.3 billion budget is earmarked for

homeless solutions. mayor matt mehan is calling it the most significant and strategic investment in addressing unsheltered homelessness in the history of the city. as part of last night's vote to, the council also approved shifting more than $20 million in measure e funds. funds from the property transfer tax were slated to be for affordable housing. some will now go to more immediate solutions, such as complying with the san francisco bay regional water quality control board by clearing homeless encampments near its waterways by june of 2025, or facing hefty fines. >> we have a pathway now to being in compliance with our stormwater permit and the clean water act, but to do that, we have to follow through on the investments we've outlined in this budget over the next year. >> it's estimated that 1200 people will be moved off the streets and into alternative

sleeping sites. 600 into temporary shelter, 500 to new safe sleeping sites and 100 to new safe parking spots. homeless advocates tell us that they are not a fan of congregate shelters , but they would like to see more transitional housing options live in the studio. gloria rodriguez, abc seven news. >> if you're interested in the future of san francisco's powell street, today is your chance to see what that could mean. the union square alliance is holding an open house for its powell street improvement project. we first told you about this plan yesterday. designs call for refreshed sidewalks and upgraded parklets. there's also this idea to install a massive new light feature above powell and market. the price for the project is estimated to be about $4 million, but the chronicle reports it could cost up to 30 million for a full recovery of powell street. if you want to go tohat open house is happening from 4 to 7. it's at 111 powell street, which you may remember, is where uniqlo used to be. a

lot of used to be spaces on that street. currently people living in a group of rvs that are parked on one san francisco street could be forced to leave as soon as next month. >> the city is planning a new four hour parking limit on winston drive near lake merced, which is close to stonestown galleria. more than a dozen rvs are parked there. a group of people who live in the vehicles is calling on the city to help them find a new place to park. >> we're here because we don't have anywhere else to go. we don't have a safe parking site. we don't have stability. why do you guys want to kick us out when we're not harming anyone? we are not like criminals or something like that. >> we are humans. we're like all people, but different lives. >> sfmta says they are working to find safe parking resources for people who are here. residents say they have not been offered any better alternatives, and some say they will be. they will stay when that parking enforcement starts. the plan to bring a new city to solano

county. taking a key step forward, elections officials have announced that the california forever project has qualified for the november ballot. so next, the solano county board of supervisors will be deciding whether to order a report on the impacts of the project before placing it on the ballot. their next meeting is june 25th. california forever aims to bring a city of as many as 400,000 people to the area between fairfield and rio vista. giant pandas from china closer to coming to the san francisco zoo. >> the board of supervisors approved a plan to allow city departments to raise all the money they need without having to use taxpayer dollars. amanda, this is not going to be cheap. they're trying to raise at least 25 million. >> yeah. reggie, the mayor needed supervisors to approve an exemption to ethics rules to allow city departments to ask private entities for donations, even if they do business with the city. and she got that yesterday. a list of donors will be made public. mayor breed has touted the huge economic impact she expects the pandas to bring. she hopes tourists from around the world will come to the city

to see the animals. once they arrive. >> when we start to look at our economic recovery here in san francisco, you know pandas have an opportunity to draw large crowds and a consistency of support and will be an attraction here in san francisco . >> supervisor asha sapphire is running against breed in november's mayoral election. he supports the panda project, but thinks the money could be better spent elsewhere. like on city programs that have faced budget cuts. >> it can be all about the pandas, but kids are more important. kids every day of the week over pandas. you've got to put the money in. >> there is also an animal rights group that is opposed to the idea of bringing pandas here, claiming the zoo is mismanaged and in need of repairs, claims the zoo has denied. the zoo says the pandas could arrive as early as next year. if it all works out, it will be the first time since 1985 that pandas will call san francisco home. back to you, the

desk kumasi. thank you. >> amanda. california. now, one step closer to the nation's first slavery reparations becoming law. yesterday, three key bills passed in the state assembly judiciary committee. they addressed slavery and decades of discrimination in the costs of reparations will be hi. >> let's make no joke about that. but the cost of the harms make this minuscule based on the debt and harm that was created through slavery. >> that is, state senator stephen bradford, who authored the bills and spoke to the committee about them. all three now advanced to the assembly appropriations committee and then to the full assembly for a vote. the first bill would create an agency to oversee reparations. the second would create a fund for reparations and reparative justice, and the third would compensate families for racially motivated land taking. there's hundreds there's thousands of examples. >> we just learned about uh- silas white, who was african american business person in santa monica who had his

property taken today, and they took it under the guise that the city needed a parking lot in 1960. well, there's a four star hotel that sits on that land that still owned by the city of manhattan. i mean, santa monica, which they're receiving rent from every day. that money should be going to the uh- white air. so there are many examples like that. so we want to where those opportunities exist, we want either compensate those individuals if it's still under state local control. we're not talking about taking property that is now in private hands, but where we can find examples where bruce's beach, where it's still controlled by a governmental entity, we want to return that property or provide some type of financial compensation to these individuals. >> state senator bradford said he believes it's very likely that governor newsom will pass these bills if they make it to his desk. >> 509, okay. camera this morning is beautiful. we have clear skies out there. a current temperature in oakland of 57 degrees with high humidity this

morning. looking at the travel forecast, if you're taking to the skies today, really quiet in l.a, new york, chicago, we have calm weather, temperatures in the 70s and 80s along the front range. though denver is hot today, they're in the middle of a heat wave 94, and they're likely see an isolated strong storm this afternoon. other areas are doing just fine with atlanta. it's hot and humid at 90 degrees back here at home. future weather. we have this clear skies, a little bit of patchy cloud cover close to the coast will warm up nicely, but today is dramatically cooler than yesterday. that's the big headline. no heat advisories in effect today. temperatures closer to average instead of the triple digits inland. we'll go in the 70s and 80s. that feels a lot better today. 60s and 70s around the bay shoreline. looking at your weather wellness today, little change from yesterday. our air quality still remains good to moderate your pollen levels high when it comes to grasses, moderate when it comes to trees and the uv index a ten out of an 11 that is very high. so today highs are about

in high school. >> they were in first grade when the shooting happened in 2012. amanda, just like so many other teens, they're eagerly anticipating the next chapter of their lives. >> yeah, reggie. six students spoke with abc's george stephanopoulos before their graduation today. sandy hook is one of the deadliest school shootings in u.s. history. 21st graders and six educators died. >> you have this connection that's never going to go away, but it's still even you know, over ten years later, just so difficult to try and dig up those memories because of how traumatic and painful it is. >> and now, as they prepare to graduate high school, these young people say they will continue to advocate for change when it comes to gun laws as future therapists, lawyers and politicians some met with vice president kamala harris at the white house last week. >> we don't want, you know, i'm sorry and you know, this is so terrible that happened to you like it's past that, you know,

it's happened too many times. your prayers honestly don't mean anything. it doesn't help me. i've had to deal with this for ten years. it'll never get easier. no matter how many times i talk about it. >> according to the k-to-12 school shooting database, more than 1600 school shootings have happened in the us since the 2012 sandy hook shooting. there are plans to honor the sandy hook victims during today's ceremony. back to you. >> today marks eight years since the pulse nightclub mass shooting in orlando, florida. the city will honor the 49 victims killed that night with a community remembrance ceremony. that shooting is america's deadliest attack on the lgbtq plus community to date. a memorial will be held in san francisco as well. this is video from last year's event. today's tribute will be held at 5 p.m. at jane warner plaza in the castro. >> san francisco is reaffirming its support for the lgbtq plus community. the city's board of supervisors passed a resolution declaring san francisco a sanctuary city for those who

identify as transgender, gender nonconforming, forming intersex, and two spirit. it's the first major city in the country to do so, although not. this is not unprecedented because sacramento took a similar action in march. west hollywood also has done this. it comes at a time when there is an increasing number of legislation across the country targeting the transgender community. history has been made this pride month in southern california. yesterday l.a. county convened its first ever lgbtq plus commission meeting. the 15 member panel will advise the board of supervisors to ensure county policies are supportive and inclusive for the lgbtq community. >> we have to make sure that every single person feels seen and heard and included and served by all of the services that are intended by our county commission. >> members say they hope to have a hand in shaping all types of policies from foster care to health care and housing. the commission is going to meet monthly. celebrate pride with

supervisors have given final approval for speed cameras to be installed throughout the city. you will get a ticket if you go 11mph or more over the speed limit. those cameras should go up later this year. >> number four, san francisco supervisors have given the green light for the mayor's fund raising plan to bring pandas to the zoo. the city needs to raise $25 million to build a habitat for those animals. >> and number five, our heat is easing today. it is much cooler this afternoon. no heat advisories in effect. temperatures closer to average today, our warmest cities in the 70s and 80s. >> number six, a live look from our emeryville cam cars are filling in on the westbound side of the east shore freeway. 33 minutes from highway four into the city. >> number seven, two important economic indicators are due out this morning. the may inflation report will be released in just a few minutes at 530. then at 11, an the federal reserve will announce a decision on interest rates. it's expected that rates will remain unchanged.

>> someone in the south bay is apparently getting ready to pay big bucks for a condemned home. the home, listedor nearly $700,000, is on elliott street in the burbank district of santa clara county, which is surrounded by san jose. it has seven bedrooms, no one is allowed to live in it. the realtor listing the home says that the county found a number of code violations and has since put up a condemned sign. a current offer is pending. whoever buys this has a lengthy repair job ahead of them. we talked with one woman who bought a condemned home out of state and renovated it. eventually, she had to tear it down and rebuild. >> basically, had people come in and throw everything away, paint everything, and turned it into a canvas. and then i cleaned it up and actually looked kind of cute for two years. but we did eventually knock it down, the realtor of this home says whoever buys it has to develop a plan that will get the county's approval. >> this summer marks the 100th anniversary of camp mather. it's run by san francisco recs and

park, and it's located near yosemite and the hetch hetchy reservoir. the camp serves mostly children from the city. it opened on july 5th, 1924 under the name margaret maryland municipal campground, but in 1986 changed the name in honor of stephen mather, the first director of the national park service. anyone headed to camp this summer can expect some sort of centennial celebration each week. >> california's first partner, jennifer siebel newsom, is back with her annual summer book club and encourages kids to read while school is out. this year's list includes several themes like navigating mental health struggles, identity and belonging, and the importance of exploration and curiosity. the list is divided by age and grade level librarians across the state help the first partner put that list together a big honor for forty-niners star christian mccaffrey. >> he's landed the cover of the popular football video game franchise madden nfl 25, no. 40 niners player has been chosen until now. ea sports posted this

federal custody and facing deportation. amanda. they were initially allowed to enter the u.s. last year. reggie >> sources tell abc news the migrants, originally from the central asian republic of tajikistan, entered the u.s. legally through the southern border sometime last year. the individuals were initially allowed to enter the u.s. while monitoring them. in recent weeks, authorities discovered information indicating ties to isis. they were detained in new york, l.a, and philadelphia. the department of homeland security's inspector general has raised concerns over the vetting process for migrants. after analyzing asylum applications over a six year period up until last year. he concluded the technology, procedures and coordination were not fully effective when screening non-citizens and some asylum seekers. but other homeland security experts say it's possible federal authorities let them into the country to help lead law enforcement to a bigger threat. >> we may have not immediately

it shows someone sneaking up behind a 14 year old student and choking him with a shirt. and as if that was not shocking enough, the teen's parents say the attacker is their son's coach. now they want him charged with a crime. it happened at a middle school in michigan, the student, named michael told his parents. it started with the coach telling him to do some push ups because he'd kind of been horsing around in the hallway, michael said he tried to explain that he couldn't because he had a hand injury. so then michael gets up to go to class. moments later, his parents say the coach went after him in the hallway,
