have more on that story in just a moment. but first the weather and we're bracing for the breeze. >> yes that's right because it's out of the direction that is more of an offshore component. and that will dry out the atmosphere, elevating our fire danger. it's all due to a system offshore. we've had the winds overnight. so that's why we're so clear this morning. temperatures are ranging from the mid 50s on the coast in san francisco to the mid 60s in san jose. everyone is sunny. and notice the golden gate bridge nice and clear. no wind there. really low to mid 60s for everyone. but as we go through the next several hours notice in general the winds could be gusting to 30 miles an hour right on through the afternoon, so as we get set through the late morning hours, it's mild 60s, 70s, we will see those 80s inland temperatures near average. but the winds at the coast, the upper elevations and at times around the bay, quite breezy, allowing for critical dry weather conditions throughout the entire weekend. stephanie >> lisa, thank you. back to that confrontation at an east bay shopping center that has left a security guard dead. this

happened late thursday night at the cvs located at the fremont hub. it's a busy shopping center there, and there was some sort of argument between the guard and another person, and it spiraled from there. here's abc seven news reporter lauren martinez. police really haven't released many details around the shooting. i can tell you this is a very busy shopping center. people have been coming here all day leaving candles and flowers, fremont hub and advising that a subject was shot. >> there is a security guard that's down the investigation into what led to a deadly confrontation at this cvs in fremont is underway. >> police say around 11 thursday night, an altercation between a security guard and another individual quickly turned violent. >> and it looks like we have several employees barricaded in the pharmacy. >> the security guard was shot and killed. the other individual had several stab wounds. on friday, those in the neighborhood left flowers for

the security guard, who has not been publicly identified. >> i don't have a way to reach the family or anything, but it it just felt like a good thing to do. >> one woman leaving flowers said she works as security at a store nearby. >> i'm actually work here at the hub at michaels. so we're security has been a really big issue for the hub. we have people stealing all the time, but as employees, we know we're not allowed to do anything about it physically. >> cvs was closed friday with a note posted on it telling customers where they could pick up their medications. >> i just had surgery today and i need my prescription, so now i got to figure out where to go. >> cvs released this statement. we are cooperating with police in their investigation of an incident that occurred at our store on fremont hub. we are not able to confirm any details at this time. >> it's appalling. and it's, it's horrific. >> residents describe the area as generally safe, but feel like petty crime has gone up. >> low level crime has always

been an issue, part of the reason they had security but never thought something like this would happen. >> fremont police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has more information to contact them. >> my thoughts are with his family. it's unfortunate that people are walking around with guns and they feel they need to take it to that level. the person who was stabbed was taken to a local trauma hospital in fremont. >> lauren martinez abc seven news. now to this, five people were arrested in connection with this shocking smash and grab at a sunnyvale jewelry store. it happened on wednesday. that's when 20 people broke into png jewelers and they smashed nearly every display case you see here in just 2.5 minutes. police pursued one of the cars and caught all five suspects inside. despite their attempt to ditch that car and flee, the value of all that was stolen is unknown at this time. some of the jewelry has been recovered, but that investigation is still

ongoing. the bart board of directors passed a new budget for the next two fiscal years yesterday, but not everyone on the board supported it, in part because the transit agency is forecast to face a budget deficit as high as 300 to $400 million over the coming years. abc seven news reporter tim johns has been following this story and explains how it could impact you at home institutions. >> with a vote of 9 to 2, the bart board of directors passed their new budget for the next two years. the move coming ahead of an expected fiscal cliff. since the pandemic, the transit agency has largely relied on federal and state money to keep it afloat, but that money is expected to run out around april 2026, and bart is facing the prospect of annual deficits between 300 and $400 million. >> we have a crisis on our hands . >> deborah allen is a bart board director and one of the two members to vote against the budget. on thursday, allen believes the board should start planning now for the possible fiscal cliff and trim the

agency's current spending as much as they can. we've got to have a plan b, right, and there still isn't one. not everyone shares allen's viewpoint, though. bevan dufty is the bart board president. he says he's proud of the budget the board passed thursday. >> we've been tightening our belt for a while now. you know, the past couple of years we've balanced our budget through state and federal support, dufty says he worries if bart starts cutting services now, it could create a so-called death spiral and harm the agency even more. >> in the long run. he tells me the bart board has been working closely with state and federal lawmakers ahead of the impending fiscal cliff. dufty says he supports efforts by people like state senator scott wiener, who wants to fund the transit agency through increased taxes and fees . wiener hopes to put a ballot measure before voters in 2026. >> they recognize that if we start willy nilly cutting things, furloughing people, laying people off, that that is really going to deeply impact our ability to draw people back

into the system. >> dufty says. bart's biggest problem remains its lack of ridership. as of may, it's only at 43% of pre-pandemic levels. a number impacted by the rise of remote and hybrid work following covid and while dufty hopes more people will return to the office full time, allen thinks that's just not realistic. >> no one predicts that is going to happen. all predictions are that there will be just really nominal amounts of growth over time. >> even if voters were to approve a new tax measure, funding likely wouldn't come until 2028. in san francisco. tim johns abc seven news on the other hand, there's a significant step to bring bart to silicon vley. >> this extension will add four stationsnd a wrap around through downtown san jose and end near the airport. most of it will be underground. the extension is a partnership between bart and the valley transportation authority. vta will own the facilities, while bart will operate and maintain them. it's expected to cost $13

billion and finally be completed in 2037. we're taking you out live now to the san francisco bay, oakland international airport, where a flight that landed here last month is now under investigation. boeing and federal agencies are trying to determine why a southwest airlines flight experienced a rare and dangerous event called a dutch roll. that's when the plane moves back and forth, and the nose of the aircraft makes a figure eight. it happened during a flight from phoenix to oakland on may 25th. now the plane was damaged, but the crew maintained control and landed safely. thankfully, no one was hurt. now to the latest in the state trial for david depape, the man who's already been federally convicted in the attack on paul pelosi yesterday, the 44 year old public defense team rested their case with no testimony from the defendant. the judge told the jury he wasn't ready to give them instructions yet and sent

them home for the weekend. jurors are expected to receive those instructions on monday, followed by closing arguments before they begin deliberating. depape is already facing 30 years in prison from his federal criminal trial. if convicted in the state trial, the judge will determine if his sentence will be served consecutively or concurrently. all right, let's check in with lisa. how's it looking outside? >> it's pretty nice out. we have temperatures in the 60s. plenty of sunshine, little haze here from mount tam. relative humidity is dropping throughout the day. that's what it usually does. but it's being exacerbated by a northerly component, which means we are elevating the fire danger throughout the bay area through for the entire weekend and even into next week. we'll talk about how low it's going to get, how high the temperatures are going to get, and the week ahead. next, lisa, thank you. >> also ahead, the princess of wales

the princess of wales attended the monarch's birthday parade overnight. it's the first time she has appeared in public since last december. she accompanied her three children in a carriage during the trooping the color, an annual military parade held in central london to mark the monarch's official birthday. now

she also joined king charles, queen camilla and the other senior family members. as you can see here on the balcony of buckingham palace, she is not expected to return to her royal duties. this is seen as a one time appearance for now. yesterday, kensington palace shared a new photo of kate and an update on her health, the first since announcing her cancer diagnosis. the 42 year old wife of prince william said in a statement, quote, as anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days. abc7 news special correspondent doctor alok patel says the princess's cancer fight is part of a growing trend in people under the age of 50. >> one thing it could be environment could be early screening and diagnosis. the fact that we have more exposure to processed foods over the past several decades. but this has been a slow, creepy trend since the early 1990s, princess kate says she is making good progress in her cancer treatment, and

before. a good reminder, governor government agencies that is will never call, email, text or message you on social media to ask for money or for personal information. they will also never demand a payment. happening today, it's elder abuse awareness day and california lawmakers are warning about a growing problem that's hurting seniors in our communities. according to state attorney general rob bonta, older adults lose nearly $3 billion to financial fraud and scams every year here in san francisco, scammers have targeted elders in the chinatown community using culture and language to gain trust. authorities encouraged people who witnessed these crimes to report it to police and adult protective services. also today, the annual fireworks buyback on the peninsula. the san mateo county sheriff's office will hold three buyback events throughout june. fireworks are currently illegal in san mateo county, except in san bruno and pacifica. authorities say people can turn them in anonymously

pier 39 camera. we've turned it around to view the rock. this morning. it's in the upper 50s. redwood city 64, in san jose, 58, san francisco. so with all that wind, we've had a lot of mixing, no fog, and temperatures are rising quickly. 67 by the delta, 62 in livermore. hazy view here. moderate air quality, sunny, mild to warm today, but we're getting into some very windy conditions. more so that will dry out the atmosphere the next several days right into monday. so the red flag warning is for solano county, lake county, where relative humidity drops through 20, even 10. but as we get through the rest of the day today, look how dry it is for the bay area for your saturday afternoon. we're in a moderate to high risk, certainly in the upper elevations. then overnight things are getting a little bit more moist. but look what happens by sunday. very high risk with all those grasses and it's through noontime. we're down to about 20% in petaluma. the relative humidity that's a moist that's a measure of the moisture in the atmosphere. so
