live dangerous red flag weather is firing up for the weekend, where the winds will be the worst with new fires already burning. good morning and happy father's day to all the fathers out there it is sunday, june 16th, i'm gloria rodriguez. let's start with a quick look at the weather with meteorologist lisa argen and lisa. we've been talking about father's day. a lot of people getting ready for the big father's day celebrations today. how's the weather going to be for them? >> well, you know, it's definitely bright out there already. no marine layer. it has been breezy. those winds have been with us and now they're offshore. so as we look at live doppler seven, that system influencing what we call our pressure gradients, the how tight the high and low pressure winds blow, they get close to each other. and that brings the

breezy winds. wow. it's busy out there early this morning as we spin the camera around from pier 39, looking at the rock there. alcatraz 55, in hayward. it's 53 in redwood city, and with all that sun you can see sutro right now, nice and clear. 53, in livermore. it's been in the 40s in the north bay valleys, also along the coast where it's seven degrees cooler there, half moon bay and the winds right now, upper elevations over 30 miles in an hour. mount diablo. so at the surface, really not too bad. but as we go through the afternoon, they'll continue to crank up. so we'll say breezy to windy out there at times, and temperatures will be from the low to mid 80s inland, low to mid 70s. bay shore and very gusty winds in the 60s at the coast. we'll talk about when those winds will ease up and when we heat up in a few minutes. gloria. >> all right. thank you, lisa. and i know that lisa has touched on this this morning, but those gusty winds and dry grass can be a recipe for fires. abc seven news reporter ryan kerr spoke with cal fire, which is preparing for a potentially busy weekend.

>> the sounds of bugs chirping and the wind blowing, but the latter of the two could be dangerous. the rest of the weekend. >> we are expecting critical fire weather conditions, either ongoing or expected within the next 24 hours. >> the national weather service has issued its first red flag warning of the year. the warning is up for parts of solano county all the way up to redding. >> within that window of time, expect a very low relative humidities, gusty winds and very dry fuels. >> windy and dry. two things putting cal fire on high alert for possible wildfires. >> anything that really starts will take off. those those fuels are, you know, one our fuels which light flashy and they'll move quite rapidly. >> look at these weeds blowing in the wind. this is exactly what cal fire and the national weather service are worried about. one spark could ignite this field, and with these winds that fire could spread fast. already we have seen multiple grass fires. the cal fire earlier this month burned almost

15,000 acres. firefighters back then said dry hills mixed with strong winds caused that fire to spread quickly. those fears are back this weekend. >> this is pretty predicted with the grass crop that we've seen from the rains. the later rains this winter, we had an above average season of rainfall, which means that our grass crops are just going to grow higher. >> it means residents living near these dry hills need to be ready in case they need to evacuate. james cohen knows a lot about that. he once lived near napa when a wildfire forced him out. >> we had to rehome ourselves temporarily. and you know, there wasn't anything that we could do other than that this weekend, he's ready for what can happen. i keep supplies with me. you know, like a first aid kits, backpacks, ready to go. things like that. but i don't think there's really much you can do to prepare for a fire at that scale. >> all he can do now is hope a fire does not break out near his house in benicia. ryan curry abc seven news. >> in the south bay, a small

fire burned about 18 acres southeast of san jose yesterday. a time lapse video from yesterday shows plenty of smoke. you could see it right there. the flames near san felipe road and lassen road didn't burn any buildings and nobody was hurt. cal fire is investigating a fire that's burned more than 1000 acres near oroville in butte county. the so-called dunes fire ignited at 3:20 p.m. on saturday at four dunes way and palermo on highway one. structure and agriculture outbuilding and a few vehicles have been destroyed . cal fire believes the fire have started near the area where the structure burned. fire officials say they faced a few challenges with containing this fire right now, our biggest challenge is getting the bulldozer lines, our containment lines all the way around the fire. >> there is some difficult terrain out there and some some rocky areas that we're having a little bit of a hard time with. >> all evacuation warnings in the area have been lifted. the dunes fire is currently 10%

contained down in southern california. los angeles county fire has issued evacuation orders because of a massive brush fire. the blaze was first reported around two yesterday afternoon on gorman road in gorman. more than 1200 people were forced to evacuate last night. flames have since burned through more than 10,500 acres. there have been no reported injuries at this time, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation. and don't forget, you can access the same weather tracking tools that our weather team uses, as well as our air quality tracker. just go to the weather section on our abc seven bay area app. you can also go to abc seven news.com and new. this morning, contra costa county paramedics have made a heroic save after a pickup truck smashed into a tree overnight. paramedics found the crash vehicle just after one this morning and happened on sunset road near sellers avenue in brentwood. first responders were able to rescue the man from the car, where he was taken to a

local hospital to be treated contra costa county fire tells us the intense, life saving measures the paramedics had to perform after discovering the accident were the vehicle, began, caught fire and they were able to remove the driver from the driver's seat and get him to their gurney, which they rolled right into cpr because he was in cardiac arrest and authorities are still investigating what caused that crash. the driver's condition is not known at this time. a warning from sheriff's deputies on the peninsula after a mountain lion sighting in millbrae. deputies rushed to an open space between vallejo drive and interstate 280 on saturday morning after a resident reported seeing a big cat. the sheriff's office says no injuries or incidents have been reported and deputies are urging residents to be careful in the area. also call 911 if they see the animal near developments authorities have released the name of the woman arrested after a shooting and standoff that sent police on the peninsula

rushing to two locations this past thursday. 34 year old brittany stewart, a resident of ceres in stanislaus county, was booked into san mateo county jail earlier this week. she is accused of shooting a woman near east hillsdale boulevard and norfolk street in san mateo. the victim was found at a gas station in san carlos and was taken to the trauma center for treatment. stewart faces felony charges related to that shooting. and check out this new video into our newsroom this morning. you can see the moment where a group of 20 people violently break into a sunnyvale jewelry store. it happened on wednesday at p and g jewelers and you can see they smashed the windows, the doors in, and pretty much every display case in just 2.5 minutes. police pursued one vehicle and they caught five suspects inside, even though they tried to ditch the car and run. and the fremont hub cvs store, where a security guard was fatally shot on thursday night, has reopened.

that's according to a company spokesperson. the location was closed all of friday after the deadly encounter. the store security guard has not yet been identified. another person was rushed to the hospital with stab wounds and authorities have said the violence happened after an altercation between the two. new details about a robbery targeting workers at the contra costa county fair. antioch police now tell us it's just one of a bigger series of crimes. ten in a little more than just two months, everybody is free game right now with these criminals, and it's everywhere. >> yeah. >> and then and county fair leaders told us last month that armed robbers stole $90,000 from employees trying to make a deposit at a bank. police now say that they are investigating several more robberies and attempted robberies of people in bank parking lots. they say in other cases, the suspects watched victims leaving and they actually followed them home. police say the first crime happened on april 1st, with the most recent on tuesday, and it's happened in at least eight banks across antioch. suspects have

stolen purses, phones, jewelry, cash and of course, that $90,000 deposit from the fair antioch police say that they have detained two suspects, and it's not clear if all of these crimes are connected. movies could once again be shown at the downtown san francisco center shopping mall, the chronicle is reporting the mall is in talks with another operator to reopen a nine screen theater. there cinemark closed the operation last summer, months before its lease expired. the report of the chronicle did not spell out a timeline on. and this week, the mall announced several new leases for the mall, which has been plagued by vacancies. a thousand students got their second chance at the s.a.t. test after bad internet canceled their first attempt. spots for the s.a.t. can be tough to get here in the bay area, and that's why families were so frustrated earlier this month when a wi-fi failure forced the college board to cancel a test at a hotel in oakland saturday. the students took a makeup test at the hilton in union square.

how renaming the park she loved is helping the community heal. >> a new name and a new beginning for this city park in san francisco's visitacion valley means abundant love. so sunny yee is talking about her grandmother, who wong, for whom this park is named. the official dedication ceremony happening saturday. >> it's been a very hard journey, very painful, but also very beautiful, yee says her 88 year old grandmother came to this park, formerly visitacion valley playground, most every day. >> but in january of 2019, she was found badly beaten here and died months later from her injuries. the crime rocked the asian community. a 24 year old suspect was arrested and is awaiting trial. >> she is survived by great grandchildren, grandchildren and so having everyone coming together as a big family is really important. >> many hope the wong peace and friendship park will be a place of healing. >> i know it wasn't easy, but you took a devastating loss and

today. of course, we know a lot of people are planning celebrations for today, but it's going to be a little windy, you said. yeah, it is going to be a little windy at times, not the entire time. >> and we are shut off from our onshore flow for a time being. so usually we get that cooling sea breeze. some areas it's felt pretty warm where those winds out of the north have warmed you up through the 70s and 80s, but overall we're near average. we have a system to the north and west of us that is allowing for the winds to switch around to that offshore component. we're going to have another 48 hours of this kind of weather before we return to the winds from the coast, moving across the bay. and then that marine layer reforming, that's going to take several days into the middle of next week. so between now and then, it is clear we're looking at haze. just very little patchy fog. this is emeryville right now where it's 53 downtown, 45 with the clear sky, a little bit of fog. half moon bay, 53, in redwood city and from santa

cruz, about 50 degrees right now, upper 70s later on today with fairfield at 57. and the winds are light in most spots right now, upper elevation winds are a little bit breezy. there's the clear view from the golden gate bridge, so sunny, mild to warm today, so no afternoon breeze. we're going to have the breeze and it's going to be gusty, but it's out of the north looking at the rest of today and tomorrow with those winds ramping up. that's why we have a red flag advisory in the adjacent counties to the bay area. and that elevated fire danger with that red flag warning for lake county, solano county, the northern sacramento valley, where winds out of the north, they're allowing for those warm breezes 25 to 35 mile an hour wind gusts and the humidity dropping to not only 10, even below that, we're talking single digits. here's a look at the bay area fire danger index in the colors. the brighter they are, indicate the risk. so from moderate to high today, basically all across the

north bay and also along the santa cruz mountains, also the diablo range and the winds ease up, we get cooler temperatures. the relative humidity tries to recover overnight, but by monday afternoon we're still looking at that offshore component and those very dry winds. so in particular the gusty winds you'll see will be from point reyes down to half moon bay. but even inside the bay, look at the north bay over 30 miles an hour and then out towards discovery bay near that, with the 30 mile an hour wind gusts at times around redwood city. so by about noontime we're down to about 26% relative humidity in napa and concord, 16% in petaluma. and as we go through the afternoon, with more north winds blowing, we're down to 14% by the delta and 18% there up in petaluma. so looking at the dry conditions and other several days, temperatures in the upper 60s to low 70s from san francisco over to oakland. so that's near average upper 70s, maybe a degree or so below average in the south bay, 86 for you in

celebration. abc seven news reporter suzanne fong gives us a closer look at the festivities and the historical black community. >> we have eight blocks of celebrating fillmore street in san francisco is bringing together a vibrant community to celebrate juneteenth with music, food and festivities. >> a lot of fun. >> it's a combination of bringing youth, seniors, a mixture of culture, everybody together. >> well, we've been celebrating it here over 80 years. only second to galveston, texas. >> juneteenth marks a monumental day in u.s. history. >> we celebrate resilience. we celebrate freedom. we celebrate the fact of progress, of how far we've come considered freedom day because it was when the people, african americans and texas, two years after the emancipation proclamation was signed, received notification that they are indeed free. >> juneteenth is also a homecoming of sorts for many

people in san francisco's black community. many come to celebrate the holiday in the fillmore district, a historically african-american neighborhood once deemed the harlem of the west. >> and our parents all tell the story of how it was hundreds of black businesses on fillmore, music on every corner. you know, blues clubs that were african american owned. that all happened before redevelopment. >> these photographs that the heritage center spotlight how the fillmore was the epicenter of black entertainment, music and culture through the early 70s. >> you look at, you know, louis armstrong, you know, it's just these are icons remembering the fillmore's rich history and heritage, marking juneteenth freedom celebrations. >> they go hand in hand. >> this community was the core of the african american community in san francisco for so many years, and it's just great to bring this event to this community for future generations. >> it's a reminder it is important to make sure that we understand the significance of black people and how black people not only built this city,

violence over the weekend. multiple mass shootings at gatherings meant for fun. children among the injured. good morning to you. we're starting this half hour with a look at your weather. here's meteorologist lisa argen. how's it looking out there today? >> it's nice and bright already. we do have a bit of haze, very little fog at the coast. it's cool there in the mid 40s. here's a look at a clear shark tank in san jose where temperatures will climb through the 70s today. right now it's 57 there, as well as oakland, 53, san francisco. little hazy here, but you can see the view is clear. the golden gate bridge 49, santa rosa 46, in petaluma. so dry northerly winds continue. and that has allowed for a cooler start at the coast, slightly milder to the north of us and upper level winds right now over 20 and in 30 miles an hour from rocky ridge around marine county and mount diablo. so we're looking at relative

humidity in the upper elevations already down to 33. so without the marine layer, without the onshore flow, we'll continue to dry out throughout the day. today so elevated fire danger throughout your sunday father's day into monday, mid to upper 80s inland. we'll see those mid 70s around the bay shore, gusty winds at the coast and we won't see a return to the low clouds and fog for several days. i'll tell you when and we'll talk about summer beginning in a few minutes. >> gloria, thank you so much, lisa. and this morning we're learning more about a shooting at a splash pad filled with families in michigan. the suspect opened fire randomly, leaving nine victims wounded, including at least two children. police have now confirmed the suspect died by suicide. abc's derek dennis has more. >> the shooting happened on a warm summer afternoon in rochester hills, michigan, about 30 miles north of detroit. multiple victims range from children to adults enjoying the day at a water park on father's day weekend. video over the scene shows multiple shell case

markers at the brooklyn splash pad, a popular water park in rochester hills. >> sad you don't think it will happen in your neighborhood. >> oakland county sheriff michael bouchard says the shooting appears to have been the act of a lone gunman. >> the individual pulled up, exited a vehicle, approached the splash pad, opened fire, reloaded, opened fire, reloaded, left. >> authorities say a semiautomatic handgun and three magazines were found at the scene, and multiple victims were hit, including at least two children. the youngest, a four year old. another eight year old shot in the head in critical condition. >> i, in my worst nightmare, couldn't imagine standing up here again talking about another active shooter. >> this agency has responded to multiple active shooters, multiple mass casualties. so unfortunately, this has become all too common in america, but

especially too common in our community. >> this shooting in the same county as the oxford high school shooting in 2021 that left four students dead. >> it's a gut punch, obviously, for us here in oakland county. we've gone through so many tragedies. you know, we're not even fully comprehending what happened at oxford. and, you know, now we have another complete tragedy that we're dealing with. >> derrick dennis, abc news, new york. >> this morning. police are searching for a suspect after two people were killed and multiple others were injured in a shooting at a juneteenth celebration in texas. this happened last night in round rock. that's about 20 miles north of austin. police say a fight broke out between two groups at a park where the celebration was being held. then during the fight, someone pulled out a gun and started shooting. according to authorities, multiple people were shot. two of the victims died on the scene . >> it is unfortunate that we're here celebrating a wonderful

event and we have a tragedy that happens and at least six people were rushed to local hospitals with potentially serious injuries. >> it's not clear exactly how many people opened fire during that fight to the israel-hamas war. israel's military says it has started a daily tactical pause along a route in southern gaza to ramp up aid to the region. military officials say the pause would go into effect until further notice. it's intended to allow aid trucks to cross the israel gaza border and also new overnight, the idf announced. at least eight soldiers were killed by an explosion during operations in southern gaza, according to the israeli military. this makes it one of the deadliest single incidents involving israeli troops since october 7th. the military also says two soldiers were killed in northern gaza this weekend after their tank was attacked, and to the red sea. now, the u.s. navy has rescued crew members from a

greek owned ship that was attacked earlier in the week by houthi rebels. we told you about the ship yesterday, and military officials say they airlifted the crew out safely overnight. however, they did say that one of the sailors from the cargo ship is still missing. the attack caused severe flooding and also damage to the vessel, forcing the crew to abandon it at sea. the houthis have taken responsibility for this attack. it is your voice, your vote, and there's now less than two weeks before the first presidential debate, both candidates hit the campaign trail this weekend. former president trump is looking to court voters in the critical battleground state of michigan. president biden is in southern california for a star studded fundraiser. here's abc's chuck sivertsen with the details . trump, trump, trump, trump. >> former president donald trump in michigan making a direct appeal to black voters in the heart of detroit, a democratic stronghold. >> we've done more for.

due to a system that is going to be dropping to the south and moving to the north of us, and that will keep the pressure gradients tight between high and low pressure. and that's how we get the wind right on through monday night. emeryville right now it is clear where temperatures are ranging from the mid 40s. half moon bay. so chilly there. a few patches of fog. 52 redwood city with 53, san francisco 55. in hayward, oakland, san jose 57. okay, right now over across the bay in oakland where we've got sunny skies, upper 40s, santa rosa and petaluma, 56, in concord and our pier 39 camera facing alcatraz. sunny and warm today for father's day into monday, the gusty winds with a red flag warning to the north and east of us. we're looking at those dry conditions continuing and with the grasses particularly dry, we could see a spark that hopefully wouldn't bring on fire conditions locally here. already battling them in southern california. red flag warning until 8:00 tomorrow. clear lake,

hidden valley lake and out towards vacaville. so the northern sacramento valley there, elk grove where relative humidity could drop off below 20% at times. our fire danger index highlights the areas where we could see the best chance of perhaps a fire, because the grasses and the brush is so dry. and we're looking at the north bay primarily, but into the east bay, the diablo range down through the south bay. this is for today. and things quiet down the winds a little bit overnight. but then more importantly, the relative humidity comes up at its finest at more moisture through the overnight hours. but into monday afternoon, we're back into the very dry conditions. and once again, those breezy offshore winds at the coast. this is where it will be windy. as for your sunday and as we go through the afternoon, notice those reds come into play. that's about a 30 to 35 mile an hour wind gusts from the north bay to the east bay. so it's windier than yesterday. so if you're headed to the ballpark today, it's

going to be mild. but with those breezy winds at times up to 25 miles an hour, temperatures in the upper 60s. so average highs at about 67. low 70s over in oakland should do it for this time of year. we're at 7486 in santa rosa. so the numbers are comfortable. but the winds, problematic as they will continue to dry out the air. and with no marine layer. it's another clear night tonight into your monday. we're still windy in fact pretty dry into monday morning. monday afternoon and even as the winds ease up a bit, we won't recover really until later on tuesday when we get into higher relative humidity. a couple cooler days throughout the middle of the week for juneteenth. and as we look at the beginning of summer, the temperatures begin to climb. and that's just the beginning, because friday and saturday we're looking at mid upper 90s inland so we could have some heat advisories, but still it looks cool at the coast. >> you know, i'm always a little conflicted because i love the

park visitors in portland, oregon. a malfunction on the atmosphere swing ride left this group of 28 hanging upside down for about half an hour. crews managed to get the pendulum style ride working again after that. portland fire and rescue said that they were able to conduct high angle rope rescues if they needed to. one person with a preexisting medical condition was taken to the hospital for further evaluation,

and everybody else walked away unharmed. so that's a good thing right there. well, two of china's pandas will return home later this year after being loaned to a zoo in australia. the chinese premier says two new, younger pandas will be given to australia in place of the other two. both pandas have lived at the australian zoo since 2009 and here in san francisco, the city approved a plan to allow city departments to raise money to also get pandas from china. this is an effort made by the city to boost tourism and also improve san francisco's economy. and i know lisa here. there's a lot of excitement over the pandas. i know there's some animal rights groups are also saying that, you know, they oppose that. they want to make sure that the zoo is ready to handle those pandas. so it's kind of controversial, but definitely a lot of people want to see those pandas here. >> yeah, i would agree with that. yeah, i kind of like the weather. right? you like it warm and then you like the sea breeze. you miss it when it's not here and it won't be here for the next several days. those breezy offshore winds allowing for the dry atmosphere to continue with elevated fire
