from melinda french gates during stanford's commencement address. but hundreds of students didn't get her message. abc seven news starts now. >> from abc seven live. breaking news and that breaking news is out of the north bay. >> this wildfire in sonoma county, northwest of healdsburg is a big concern right now. this new video is showing firefighters working to protect a home that's been surrounded by flames. and those flames are being fanned by some very strong winds and have rapidly spread over the past few hours. an estimated 300 acres have been charred since the fire started about 1230. it's 15% contained, but there are evacuation orders in place from fall creek roado stewarts point, skaggs spring road to west dry creek road. let's get a better idea of where th fire is burning. cal fire is named it the point fire. you see, it's burning sspngs roa so it's pretty close to joining us. i'm zach fuentes. before that fire ignited, crews

just, you know, making sure, you know, we're trying to keep as safe as possible. >> back live where that smoke clearly drifting toward us here fire that's burning a good 65 to 70 miles away from where we are right now. cal fire spokesperson jason clay told me on the phone just a short time ago that that winds, of course, are the biggest enemy right now for firefighters who are fighting that point. fire and again, if you live in the area of dry creek road to fall creek road, northwest of healdsburg, the sonoma county sheriff's department says you need to leave now. we're live in american canyon tonight. i'm cornell bernard, abc seven news cornell. >> that important information bringing it to us. thank you so much. and that look on the ground. and let's take a live look outside from our mount tamalpais camera now in marin county. abc seven weather anchor spencer christian is here to let us know how strong those winds will be and how long they're going to last. spencer, we heard
6:05 pm
cornell saying, the wind that is the biggest deal when we're talking about, oh, he's right about that. >> zach wind is the enemy and the wind gusts are increasing right now as we get into the evening hours. so as you get closer to the fire, these fires can generate gusts at the base of the fire or near the fire that exceed the official officially reported readings coming in from the from the reporting stations. right now, reporting gusts up to 35mph. relative humidity is dangerously low, down to nearly 20. temperature readings in the mid s.t me take you out of this and get you over to this fire danger, red flag warning. that's what i'm trying to say for high fire danger, because this covers basically all of northern california. certainly the northern sacramento valley, the carquinez strait and the delta. much of lake county and areas, as you can see in those little slivers. and northern marin and northern napa and sonoma counties in the higher elevations. now, this red flag warning is in effect for this general area until tuesday morning at 8:00. but for those areas in napa and sonoma counties, in effect until 8 p.m. tomorrow, with relative humidity
6:06 pm
dropping below 20% at times and with winds gusting up to or even above 35mph. as you can see right now, look at the current gusts 46mpho, 37 just south of sfo, down at san mateo. so all across the region, the wind gusts are increasing right now. as we get into the evenin hours, they wo to diminish and ease until the late night and overnight hours. during that time. also, the relative humidity will come back up, which is helpful. but at the moment we have highe ncerns acrossay area. i'll have the full forecast in just a few minutes. zach. so spencer, thank you. we wa to you to some sky seven video right now. sky seven just getting over to this fire. it is live. taking a look at the point fire burning over there near hills where you just see that cloud of smoke, that fire literally burning on the ground there. we just got the update that it is now 300 acres that have been burned since this fire started. it was 1230 today that this fire started already at 300 acres sky seven bringing

us that live picture. right now you see the severity of it. and as you heard cornell talking about spencer, talking about the winds, that is the biggest factor in this fire, how it's spreading andrespond to it, tooe know, of course, that our fire crews here in california, if anybody can fight a fire like this, it is them. but they are dealing with some very tough conditions with this fast moving fire. and yeah, the conditions out there not making it any easier at all for them. so we're all taking a look at this sky seven video right now. sky seven just getting to the scene giving us this look from the sky. now we had that look at the ground earlier. but you know, we never really can see the full severity of it until you get this aerial look right now to give you just a glimpse of what crews are facing and the tough task ahead of them right now, fighting this fire. that, again, is 300 acres right now, 15% containmentso we know crews e working on it. we're also continuing to give you the information as soon as we get it into our newsroom. and relaying that again, evacuation orders underway in this healdsburg wildfire that crews
6:08 pm
are fighting 300 acres, 15% containment will continue to bring the latest as soon as we get it. and now, another effort to help prevent wildfires that's going to launch tomorrow and tuesday, p-g-and-e's says it will conduct inspections of power lines, helicopters and drones in parts of santa clara and santa cruz counties. p-g-and-e's says it's in preparation for any potential publicafpower shutoff or psps events. that's when the utility issues a planned outage during extreme weather that could cause trees to fall into power lines. and of course, you can stay on top of weather conditions anytime you can access the same weather tracking tools that our weather team uses, as well as our air quality tracker. by going to the weather section on our abc seven bay area app or on abc seven news.com. to some other news now, a carjacking suspect is in the hospital tonight after being shot by a fremont police officer . police say the officer was responding to a carjacking call on osgood road. they say they
