father's day. happy belated father's day to all of you who celebrated yesterday. did you call your dad, i did, yes. there you go. >> you got a phone call? good job. we'll have much more on what that town is doing coming up a little bit later. but we want to begin with those raging wildfires, the largest of them in southern california. >> that's where winds were expected to hit 70mph overnight. that is a nightmare for fire crews on the front lines. >> meanwhile, taking a live look at kansas city. good morning to all of you. the temperatures there are still around 84 degrees that type of heat will affect hundreds of millions of americans this week. abc's alison kosik has more on the post fire north of los angeles, which began saturday afternoon, has already burned more than 12,000 acres. >> oh, wow. look at it. the mcdonald's and is about 2% contained. >> and the winds are probably going to be the biggest factor in battling this blaze. >> about 400 firefighters, including air tanker crews, are battling the blaze from the ground and from above.

>> show you how quick this fire came through. workers at the shop said. this fire came through and burned down these cars in just mere minutes. >> about 1200 campers were evacuated from hungry valley state park. fire officials say three hikers needed to be rescued from the fire zone. meanwhile, north of san bernardino, the hesperia fire has already burned more than a thousand acres. hot, dry and windy conditions are helping to fuel the flames. the national weather service issuing red flag warnings in several states, including california, arizona, utah and colorado. >> we're still seeing that heat impact much of the southwest. temperatures in the triple digits there. but notice how the heat continues its expand into the central part of the country by monday afternoon, and even into the southeast, at nearly 270 million people may see temperatures over 90 degrees at some point this week in cities like chicago, detroit, pittsburgh and hartford, temperatures are forecast to be in the mid to upper 90s.

meanwhile, we're following the tropics for development here over the bay of campeche, with heavy tropical downpours and flooding slated for texas. rhiannon andrew, back over to you, justin. >> thank you for that. now to the detroit suburbs where police have yet to disclose a motive for a weekend shooting attack at a splashpad park, which left nine people injured. one of those, an eight year old boy who was shot in the head. the gunman fled the scene and later died by suicide. also, two people were killed and 14 others wounded in round rock, texas, when a fight at a juneteenth celebration led to gunfire. police are still searching for those responsible. >> the israeli military announced it will pause daytime fighting along a key route in the rafah area to boost the flow of humanitarian aid to starving palestinians. the so-called tactical pause is limited to a ten mile stretch of road from sunup to some sundown, an israeli officials said. prime minister benjamin netanyahu called the plan unacceptable, but he was assured it would only

affect a single route. >> in greece, an american tourist has been found dead on a remote beach, and another american is still missing. the latest in a string of foreign visitors to vanish amid soaring temperatures there. abc's lama hasan has more on the search intensifying for an american tourist in greece. >> retired l.a. county sheriff's deputy albert calbert, who went missing earlier this week after setting off on a hike on the island of amorgos. colbert's girlfriend debbie and brother oliver, desperate to find him traveling to greece to help with the search. it's a very harsh terrain, you know, they're exhausted, we're all exhausted, and i mean, there's not enough of us. >> there's not enough boots on the ground. >> five foreign visitors to the greek isles have died or gone missing in recent weeks amid a heat wave in the region, authorities say. another american tourists who vanished last tuesday was found dead on this beach on the island of mathraki, near corfu. an autopsy is underway to determine the cause of death, but calbert was a frequent visitor to the island and an experienced hiker. greek

police are studying the surveillance video obtained by mega live news that appears to show calbert before his hike. he was supposed to meet a friend for lunch afterwards, but he never arrived. that friend, alerting greek authorities who launched the search, would just ended its fifth day and still no sign of calbert there still hope. >> i mean, that's that's all i got. there's still hope, right now. >> you know, authorities on the island are saying that chalybeous disappearance could be related to the heat, and they're issuing urgent warnings to visitors as extreme temperatures sweep across greece. lama hassan, abc news, london on mama. >> thank you. sean diddy combs no longer has an honorary key to his hometown. he returned it saturday at the request of new york city mayor eric adams. adams asked for its return following last month's release of a video allegedly showing combs beating singer and former girlfriend cassie ventura in a los angeles hotel in 2016. the mayor said he strongly condemned combs actions. >> let's talk about the nba's

waist deep water at the side of the highway. both suffered serious injuries. meanwhile, the cause of the crash is under investigation. >> several states are looking to eliminate property taxes to try and ease the burden on homeowners, but some warn that this plan could just lead to a tax spike in other areas, like income and sales taxes. here's abc's alexis christoforous. >> some states are looking to lend a helping hand to homeowners feeling the pinch from rising prices. elevated mortgage rates, and now soaring property taxes. this week, lawmakers in kansas will hold a special session to consider. an annual cap on property taxes would be helpful because right now it just feels like runaway property taxes. >> you don't know what's coming at you. >> it'll be their fourth attempt at passing the measure, but proposals to curb property taxes, which pay for things like local schools, roads and fire departments, have frustrated homeowners across the country and will appear on many ballots this year. voters in colorado and georgia will decide to cap

all property tax revenue. nebraska may take up a similar measure. idaho and michigan are considering getting rid of property taxes altogether, something experts warn could lead to a spike in income tax and sales tax. >> if you set that number too low, you are tying the hands of your local government and you're eroding their tax base. >> years of high interest rates and low inventory sending single family home values up more than 50% nationwide since 2019. at the same time, the median property tax bill has jumped more than 26% to nearly $3,000 a year, putting the squeeze on household budgets. lynell griffith, a mother of two, has lived in kansas nearly her whole life. she says her family had sticker shock when the tax bill on their home went up nearly 40% in five years, which has meant less money for other things. >> it means not as many, gifts at christmas time. it means not a family vacation, it means it affects our ability to pay, for

a college education. >> some experts say wyoming is a good example of a state striking the right balance when it comes to property taxes, instead of across the board cuts. lawmakers there recently capped annual increases and targeted additional relief to some seniors and veterans, ensuring that homeowners who need the help most are getting it back to you, alexis. >> thank you. all right. an amusement park ride with the word fear in its name will remain closed after it became scarier than expected. 28 people were stranded upside down on the atmosphere in portland. that's in portland, oregon. for about 25 minutes. they were trapped that way. oaks amusement park officials are still trying to figure out why the ride stopped. one guest was taken to the hospital, and i'm very familiar with this park. i used to live right down the street from it. that's terrifying. have you everybody's okay? ride? i have not, and i haven't been to the amusement park. just. i walk by, you know, kept going. >> that's it. comes up. why? celebrity chef gordon ramsay
