hundreds of people to leave their homes. we will, speaking live with cal fire for the overnight developments in just a few minutes. >> racist texting scandal. the new details we're learning about some of the antioch police officers allegedly involved in that incident. >> broadway's biggest night, the winners at the tony awards, and a look at the pair who will be sharing the stage next spring. >> i stayed up way too late watching that. good morning. on this monday, june 17th, we're going to start the check of our forecast with lisa. >> all right. >> it looks nice out there. the sun coming up at 547. but we have a fire to talk about and air quality that will be reduced, especially in the north bay. a spare, the air alert and a system offshore that has been lingering over the weekend has allowed for that wind shift. red flag warning through tuesday night, the sacramento valley. but for the north bay interior mountains here, this is through 11:00 this morning through 8:00 tonight in those north winds really allowing for the fire to drift the smoke, that is. but right now the temperatures are cool. 54 which wish we had a

higher relative humidity and more of a marine layer, but not the case. 63% calm winds. nice view from our exploratorium camera where we have clear sky. upper 40s half moon bay 56, in hayward and you can see the sunny skies. a bit of haze here over the city. 43 petaluma and a look at how that smoke will affect the bay area today, primarily the north bay and the east bay with the moderate air quality, the south bay will be in good shape and through the overnight hours it begins to ease up. but throughout the morning hours we'll see temperatures climb through the 60s, the afternoon 70s and mid 80s inland. with that haze up north, sue and we're keeping our eye on traffic flow. >> this is kind of a different week with juneteenth the holiday right in the middle of the week. so we're seeing some light traffic conditions this morning on the east shore freeway. a lot of gaps in between those headlights, folks are at the limit as they approach the bay bridge. metering lights are on. you can see our slower spots, all very typical for this time of morning. we do have an

accident southbound 680, the transition ramp to 101. there's a car over the embankment. emergency crews will be on scene , so expect possibly another lane blockage. there and an overnight closure fully starting tonight. niles canyon road between old canyon road and main street in sunol. that's due to road repair work over the winter storms. and here's a look at some of your drive times. that drive from tracy into dublin. now 50. just about 50 minutes in the red san rafael across the golden gate bridge all the way through marin is looking great and highway four in the green into concord. sue thank you. >> as you wake up this morning, want to get you updated on the situation happening right now in the north bay. crews have been working all night to gain control of the point fire, which is in sonoma county. it has burned more than 1000 acres since it started yesterday. this is burning on the south side of lake sonoma, west of geyserville . there's a lot of concern this morning about the healdsburg area. it started along stewarts
6:04 am
point, skaggs springs road and exploded to the east, burning toward healdsburg. firefighters spent hours defending vineyards and homes along dry creek road. containment is only up to 15. people across the bay area are noticing the smoke from the fire. satellite images showing you now the smoke plume spreading down into the east bay. and if you look at this video from an alaska airlines flight, you can actually see that thick layer of smoke. we're joined now by jason clay, who is the cal fire public information officer. good morning. jason, i know that you were hoping to get some better conditions overnight. it looks like that delivered. do we have any idea what the size of the fire is right now? >> yeah. so we did see favorable conditions overnight, and with that, we were able to, increase containment a little bit. we're up to 20% containment on the fire, which is at 1100 acres right now, so we really worked overnight on building and strengthening the containment lines that are in place and
6:05 am
trying to tie them into together. so their crews are working hard on the west and east flanks and trying to tie that down kind of to where the head of the fire is, on the southern edge, as you go down, like west dry creek road and mountain view ranch road. >> can you talk to us about potential buildings and structures? have that have burned? what kind of buildings were they? what's the danger for more buildings being burned at this point? >> there is potential today for increased acreage and fire activity, throughout the day. we're not going to have the winds that we saw yesterday. uh- is what it's looking like, but during the fire yesterday, we did have confirmed reports of structures that were destroyed, as we have sunrise now and we're going to be having our operational briefing here at 7 a.m. and then after that, we're going to have some of our inspectors out to try to, go through the structures and determine what type that they
6:06 am
were and the number that were destroyed. so we don't have that exact figure yet, but going through our inspection process that will be taking place today, starting this morning, we did hear about an inmate firefighter that may have been injured. >> do you know any information about that? >> yeah. so we do have one, firefighter injury that occurred overnight. and, that individual was taken to the hospital for evaluation. what about evacuation orders? >> we know some are in place. do you expect more to be issued, right now, those, the evacuation orders and the warning for the two zones kind of in the area, to the south of lake sonoma, remain in place, and the ability, depending on conditions, exists, that they could be expanded or contracted. you know, it kind of depends on how the day plays out, and how our containment, continues to increase as we got a lot of resources on it today, we're going to have about 400 total personnel on the fire, 50 fire engines, 12 hand crews, ten
6:07 am
dozers, ten bulldozers. in addition, in addition to our aerial fleet. so we're having a really strong force to try to get the containment up on this fire. >> and, jason, what would you tell to people who are waking up this morning or who've been kind of watching all night, who live, let's say, in the healdsburg area, who are wondering how soon they may have to leave their homes. >> yeah, well, it's a great reminder that, you know, are you signed up to receive emergency alerts, for where you live? and, you know, in this case in sonoma county, are you staying tuned in to social media for the latest updates? so, being aware of what's going on around you is very important at this time. and then also being prepared. so do you know what you're going to do if you are, in evacuation order zone, you know, do you have your go bag ready? all your personal belongings. can you get out? do you know your escape route? so that's a lot of important things that you need to be thinking of as these wildfires happen, whether you live in this area or whether you live in other parts
6:08 am
in the bay area or greater california, because wildfire can strike at any time. so it's really important that people watching at home are doing their their homework, so to say, to be prepared. jason we appreciate you joining us this morning to give us this update and all the work that you all are doing to get this fire under control and protect people and their property. >> so thank you so much. thank you. of course, we're keeping a close eye on the point fire those dangerous weather conditions. when news breaks, we will let you know. all you have to do is download the abc seven news bay area app, enable your push alerts to make sure you get the notifications sent right to your phone. >> so of course, we're following what's happening in sonoma county. we also want to show you what's happening in southern california. crews are battling a wildfire that's triggered evacuation orders in los angeles county. the post fire started in gorman, south of the grapevine, yesterday afternoon. flames have burned through more than 14,000 acres. this is only 2% contained. the area is under a red flag warning. winds were expected to increase there overnight. >> the winds are probably going to be the biggest factor in
6:09 am
battling this blaze. we're going to have gusts as high as 60mph, but that would not be a constant. mostly we're going to say an average about 24 mile per hour winds. >> the fire forced more than 1200 people to evacuate over the weekend. the cause of that fire is under investigation. >> closing arguments are set to begin today in the state trial of david depape. he's already been sentenced to federal prison for the 2022 attack on paul pelosi. depapes defense team rested their case friday. the judge is expected to share jury instructions ahead of closing arguments. also this week, san francisco leaders will be discussing a new agreement to provide security outside the pelosi home. sfpd officers will be there 24 over seven. whether or not speaker emerita nancy pelosi is home, city council documents show the federal government will be paying the city $1 million for this service . >> good monday morning live doppler seven. there's a system offshore that really has

provided that impetus. the wind shift that arrives friday cut off our onshore flow and has allowed for the drying of the atmosphere another 24 hours to actually 48 hours before we see a return to the marine layer. so dry northerly winds taking over over the weekend today. and that has allowed for the decrease in relative humidity and that fire start up in healdsburg, 56 in hayward, 58 in redwood city. the winds will get gusty again today. clear sky the peninsula right now sfo 49, in napa. and that's why we have our red flag warning in the adjacent counties to the north of us. but also our north bay interior mountains. so here's a look at the upper elevation winds right now. over 20 miles an hour. we will be looking at that. spare the air alert today. the moderate air quality to poor in the north bay. it will drift to the south and east throughout the day. that haze and that red flag warning through the evening hours. the winds will ease through the overnight hours. when they pick up again on tuesday, we'll get into a cooler pattern midweek and then a lot
