looking at the forecast today, warmer than yesterday, we're close to average for this time of the year. we'll go into the mid and upper 80s inland today with a light breeze by 4 p.m. around the bay shoreline. it's breezy, not as windy as we were yesterday. we have those clouds right now giving way to sunnier skies, that cloud cover breaking down close to about 9:10 a.m. we'll see temperatures in the upper 60s, lower 70s, but the coast areas there will stay pretty cloudy and highs in the 50s. let's check in with gloria. see those drive times this morning. >> good morning. so that's segaller in pescadero has now been canceled. however there are still some big delays here. this is over northbound one at pompano beach, and right now they are allowing traffic to get through on one lane. earlier they had closed both southbound and northbound directions of one. however, because of this, again it's moving very slowly in this area. so give yourself a little bit more time. if you are driving through here. you can also take some alternate routes. if you are looking for an

alternate route, you can take 84. that's another way to get through this. and just going very slowly right now and looking live here in san jose, you can see traffic is very light on 87. so no major issues there. reggie >> gloria, thank you. today baseball fans from across the bay area will be able to gather to honor willie mays. he died tuesday at 93. abc seven news reporter lena howland is live outside oracle park, with more on the special event and how fans can participate. lena >> reggie. starting at noon today, doors will open here at oracle park. the giants wanted to give grieving fans an opportunity to come pay their respects in person and sign a condolence book. now, the giants say this is a free program in honor of willie mays. at 415, the ballpark scoreboard will air an away game between the giants and the saint louis cardinals that's being played at rickwood field in birmingham, alabama, the same place where mays career began back in 1948. the mlb says the game will serve as a tribute

to mays and to the leagues, in which he played before and after the game. oracle park will be showing historic images of mays on the big screen. >> my dad went to opening day, the first giants game ever, seals stadium in 58 and got to see willie mays play. and i lost my dad almost two years ago. sorry i brought flowers for, for willie, but for my dad >> and that was just one of the many stories we heard from fans stopping by the willie mays statue here yesterday. eileen behson bought a brick for her dad when the ballpark first opened. one, she intentionally got near the willie mays statue. so abc seven sports anchor chris alvarez is in birmingham to cover this tribute game. he will have a full report from the ground in alabama later on today. and here at oracle park, doors are expected to stay open

until 8:00 tonight. live in san francisco. lena howland, abc seven news. >> thank you lena, we are learning new details about a shooting that happened during a juneteenth celebration at lake merritt in oakland last night. and gloria, police say now that it all started with a sideshow. >> that's right. kumasi overnight, oakland police released new details about the shooting, saying about 5000 people had gathered at the lake yesterday evening to celebrate juneteenth. and around 8 p.m, a sideshow started. now. soon after that, a fight broke out down the street and as people gathered, that's when shots were fired. you can see all the police activity right here. at least four people were shot and they were taken to local hospitals and others were injured. oakland police do not believe that anyone has died from their injuries. they say they had a strong presence in the area because of the holiday. >> i can tell you we had 28 officers and four sergeants out here, so we had a full detail monitoring this event because we

knew events were going to happen and we wanted to make sure people had a safe time, but unfortunately that did not happen. >> no suspects have been arrested in the shooting, but one person was arrested for assaulting a police officer while officers were trying to direct people to a safe area. after that shooting, oakland police are asking anybody with any photos, videos or any information to contact them. kumasi >> thank you gloria. the state legislature pumping the brakes on an effort to allow san francisco and other cities to regulate self driving vehicles. we told you about this yesterday morning. a bay area state senator pulled his bill, claiming a series of amendment proposals would have gutted the measure. abc7 news south bay reporter laura martinez spoke with him about whether this is the end of the road. >> the fight over who controls self-driving taxis on city streets continues. state senator dave cortez pulled his senate bill 915 this week after the assembly committee on transportation presented major

amendments. the bill would allow cities and counties to install their own regulations around autonomous vehicles. >> local mayors, local city council members. they know their community. they meet every tuesday. they pass the laws. every week they pass new policies every week. we can't do that in sacramento right now. >> only the dmv is allowed to issue permits to av companies and has the authority to revoke permits if an av is not safe on public roads. all local fire and police is directed by city and counties, not the state. >> and yet the dmv is authorizing waymo to go into cities like san francisco and now 22 other jurisdictions. >> just last month, waymo announced they will be expanding fully autonomous, driving down the peninsula to sunnyvale. we spoke with tech expert ahmed bonafe, who expected the proposed bill would fail and said giving local control to cities could be complicated. >> we have only sometimes one

street that will separate one one town from another, one city from the other city. so what's going to happen? if i would like to take the robotaxi from this city to the other city and the other city has different rules or different restrictions? >> on wednesday, the autonomous vehicle industry association released this statement. we are encouraged that sb 915 will not move forward. fortunately the legislature understood the bill would have prevented safety and accessibility opportunities for millions of californians. senator cortez said. this is not the end of the bill. something similar will be reintroduced in january, and he expects by this time next year it won't face so much resistance. >> we're not here to ban robo taxis. i'm from silicon valley, you know, we're here to embrace technology, but we just want to make sure it's safe in the south bay. >> lauren martinez, abc seven news. >> now we're going to talk about this housing debacle and san francisco's soma neighborhood that we've been following for

almost two years. 600 tenants were displaced in 2022 after a water main break flooded much of the building at 33 tehama. and now about a third of the tenants are back as the building has reopened, the building has been renamed. they're calling it spira sf. it actually even has a new address. the company says they've done renovations inside and out. one former tenant decided not to return after learning that his rent would increase by 50. >> i wouldn't feel comfortable living there, anymore. just, you know, given the, the false promises they've made so far, they basically just fooling people so that, you know, they're the previous results. don't pop up on google search. so that's why they change the name. they've changed the address and the story. >> 90 original tenants have filed a lawsuit seeking compensation for everything that they've been through. >> 609 this morning, here's a look at the summer solstice forecast as they drop a quick thank you, gloria, we are saying hello to summer at 1:50 p.m, and it is the longest day of the

yesterday. they will continue to wear it for the rest of the season. >> all evacuation orders and warnings for the point. fire burning in sonoma county have been lifted. the sonoma sheriff warned some properties may not have electricity. they're asking residents returning home to watch for emergency personnel who are still there. that fire burned 1200 acres and is 60% contained. there are still evacuation orders in calaveras county, about 100 miles east of san francisco. at least three structures have been destroyed in the arrow fire. cal fire says the flames are now 45% contained. 5300 acres have burned, one retired firefighter and his wife didn't leave when law enforcement asked. things came down to the wire when the flames approached their home, got garden hoses ready and everything that you could use water on, stuff like that. >> and the wife, she starts packing. we hit it. lucky it did come roaring down through town and everything, but they got on cal fire and copper got on it really good and stopped it. >> and in colusa county, the

to warm up this afternoon. so here's today's forecast. inland. lots of sunshine. we'll get to the mid and upper 80s for daytime. highs around the bay shoreline. it is very cloudy right now. we have temperatures starting out in the 50s. we'll go into the upper 60s and lower 70s this afternoon. warmer than yesterday. and along the coast we have drizzle this morning. a pretty deep marine layer will keep a lot of that cloud cover and daytime highs very close to yesterday. will stay in the 50s for much of the day. highs across the region. we're warmer than yesterday in most areas. were actually close to average for this time of the year 64. in the city, 70 in oakland, 81 in san jose, 85 in santa rosa, about 87. in antioch. we get even hotter here to kick off the weekend. by saturday, this heat advisory was just issued for inland areas, parts of the north bay where temperatures well into the 90s. a closer look at the sizzling

and to avoid a recall comes just one day after the city clerk's office announced that the group had turned in enough verified signatures to get the recall on the ballot. recall organizers had a message for town please mayor shengtao, resign now

>> resign now. resign sign now. mayor tao and let november fifth be the election day for a new mayor. >> the city council will vote next month on whether to finalize putting the recall on the november ballot. the mayor and a group opposed to the recall have not responded to abc seven's request for comment. >> san leandro's first woman and black police chief getting to meet the community. she is now serving. angela avery was appointed to the police chief position earlier this month. she used this juneteenth holiday as a way to introduce herself to locals. >> this is such an important day in black history, right? and so i know a lot of people have this day off. and so i wanted people to have an opportunity to come and chat with me and chat with our other officers and our professional staff, because they may not have an opportunity during the week because they go to work. and so and also, as a

black woman, i want to celebrate this day and be out in the community and, you know, talking to people and meeting people. >> chief avery has 30 years of experience in law enforcement. she was the chief in los altos before taking this position. she's also worked for the alameda county sheriff's office and the hayward and bart police departments. >> san jose is a city with the most mobile home parks in the state, and it just approved new rules to protect residents who live there. those rules make it harder for the sites to be redeveloped for other purposes. so that means if a property owner wants to turn it into something else, they have to ask the city council to change the zoning regulations. mobile home parks provide a more affordable housing option for residents. about 35,000 people live in mobile homes across san jose. >> activists opposed to housing a people's park in berkeley continue to fight against the plan. during a panel last night, they said the project violates environmental law. they claim the excavation of remains or artifacts could become the grounds for challenging the plan. they also hope uc berkeley

will conduct a cultural resource report to look at those claims. earlier this month, the state supreme court ruled the university can move forward with construction. berkeley will fund part of the project, which includes 100 beds for unhoused residents and two acres of the site. about 60% will remain open space. >> new developments on that massive lumber yard fire in oakland last month. firefighters say the flames started in an area of the building that housed heavy machinery and charging equipment, according to the chronicle. investigators haven't determined the item that started the fire at economy lumber on may 26th, but it originated near power outlets, battery chargers, saws and forklifts. economy lumber says it's operating normal business hours, and its suppliers have restocked many items that were lost in the flames. >> women who work for snapchat sometime in the past ten years may be owed some money. the santa monica based company has just agreed to pay $15 million

to settle discrimination and sexual harassment claims. snapchat says it disagrees with the allegations, but decided to settle to avoid costly and lengthy litigation. the settlement still needs to approve be approved by a judge. >> there's a new safety concern with boeing 737 max planes. >> a bird strike can cause the cabin to fill with smoke. boeing says it's happened at least twice when a large bird hit one of the engines. smoke from burning oil can enter the cabin through the ac system. boeing warned southwest and american airlines about this issue earlier this year. the company is working with the faa on it. >> we're just over a month from the start of the summer olympic games kicking off in paris, but there's already controversy before the athlete athletes even arrive. there are plans to hold open water events in the sand river. now, members of team usa swim team are sounding the alarm about safety in the water. following reports of unsafe, elevated levels of e coli. paris has spent more than $1 billion

the south bay along the peninsula, we'll find 50s for the coast side, but 60s and 70s as you head closer to the bay shoreline across the city. today, it's warmer than yesterday, low and mid 60s, but again, it's breezy this afternoon. those winds, about about 25mph in the north bay. the coast is in the 60s, but you move away from the coast and we're in the 80s and 90s for daytime highs. so we are warming up today in the east bay. a lot of cloud cover this morning, breaking for sunshine close to 10 a.m. we'll find those temperatures warmer than yesterday. 70 in oakland 73, san leandro, 77. castro valley and inland. today we're warming up, but not too hot. quite yet. we'll be in the 80s for daytime highs now. overnight tonight we will see our marine layer move back in. in most areas we'll find some coastal drizzle. overnight lows were mainly in the 40s and in the 50s. now future tracker showing you by friday afternoon you'll start to feel that warmth beginning to build the heat advisories. not in effect just yet. that comes on saturday. see? for good reason. well into the 90s in our hottest spots, if not hitting about 100 degrees in our hottest cities. even around the bay
