verdict any minute, and we will update you just as soon as we hear. >> now to the search sending shockwaves through oakland's political world. good afternoon. >> i'm kristen sze and i'm dan ashley. thanks for joining us. an fbi raid at the mayor's house and now an attorney for mayor shengtao is sharing her side. today. the fbi is quiet. no new details on the investigation from them. mayor shengtao has not been seen in public since agents raided her home yesterday day. but her attorneys talking now and sharing her side. >> we have team coverage today tracking the fallout from the raid. abc seven news reporter anser hassan leads us off from oakland. answer >> kristen and dan, good afternoon, oakland mayor shengtao was not scheduled to be at city hall today, even prior to thursday's raid. she now has hired a lawyer. he's a former federal prosecutor. he says she is fully cooperating in the investigation. the way he explains to us as of now, oakland mayor shengtao is not the target of this investigation

. it's really unfortunate that a search warrant executed at her residence because the public appearance of that brings up images of corruption. and i can tell you, i have spoken to the u.s. attorney's office, and i have no information that she's a target right now. tony brass, a former federal prosecutor and criminal defense attorney, is now the lawyer representing oakland mayor shengtao in a federal investigation. early thursday morning, more than a dozen fbi agents raided mayor tao's home in oakland. four hours later, they hauled off boxes and bags of evidence, brass points out. the warrants were for the address where tao li's not for mayor tao specifically, it suggests that the information that they wanted, whether that information itself suggests criminality or is simply something that corroborate other information, was located there or on a device . the feds also targeted two homes related to the duong family. they own california waste solutions, a garbage recycling company that operates in the east bay and south bay.

dugongs are also huge political donors, but the fact that it's our mayor, it's someone who's in leadership that who, you know, ousted the police chief. nina joyner is a small business owner in oakland. she says tao is innocent until proven guilty, but her concern is how this will play out in the court of public opinion, especially as mayor tao is facing a recall. in november, joyner is part of a growing chorus of people asking the mayor to resign. she believes mayor tao's personal issues are distractions that hurt oakland's reputation to attract talent and investments. >> we just had a shooting and we just got a we just got a chief of police, and for this event to happen, we can't even have our mayor come out. we couldn't have her come out and talk about it. this is this is this is unheard of. >> now, brass wants to emphasize that mayor tao was not arrested, and that there are no restrictions on her ability to perform her duties as mayor.

legal experts tell us this investigation could drag on months, if not longer, reporting live anser hassan abc seven news. >> all right. so thank you. we're also learning new information today about the kinds of questions that the fbi is asking. let's bring in abc seven news i-team reporter dan noyes, who's been on this story from the start. dan. >> well, kristen and dan, the mayor's chief of staff, former chief of staff, described an office filled with confusion and chaos, much of it centered around the mayor's partner, andre jones, and that finally led her to resign her position as the mayor's chief of staff. >> not only did i run her office, i was very instrumental in helping run her campaign, renee webb tells me. >> she served as chief of staff for shengtao for a year and a half, and that she questioned the amount of money andy duong was funneling to the campaign. webb says she shared her concerns with the fbi in a meeting february 3rd of last year. she gave me texts and emails from the fbi that confirmed the meeting and just the line of questioning. >> i could tell that they had

already been looking into, you know, some of their kind of pay to play type of activities. >> oh, really? what sorts of things were they saying in terms of the questions about pay to play, just about board appointments, about contracts, about andy, you know, about the duong family. >> webb says she knew thursday's raid by the fbi was coming. we spotted andy duong leaving his house and his name on evidence boxes that the irs agents carried out of the duong family business. california waste solutions. the lead investigator from the oakland public ethics commission, confirms to me that the duong's are still under investigation for a money laundering scheme caught documents i've received alleged that andy duong arranged contributions to candidates including shengtao, using straw allegedly came from phuc tran,r president of the vietnamese chambe of commerce. in response, phuc tran said he wouldn't cooperate in the investigation based on his fifth

amendment right to be free from being compelled to incriminate himself. webb tells me the end for her as chief of staff came on the day tao was sworn in, and that the mayor's partner, andre jones, tried to bring his ex-wife into the ceremony. >> and then finally, i was like, andre, i don't know what's wrong with you, but you got to get the hell out of here. i was like, this is too much. i don't know what's going on. xiang was all crying. she was like, why would you do this to me on my day? like this is crazy. >> webb tells me she texted shengtao during the raid to say she's praying for the mayor. >> she has a good heart and she came in this wanting to do it, but sometimes that power and that machine just takes people to another level in the wrong direction. yeah, the way, wrong direction. and we're all paying the consequence for it. to that andre jones tried to arrange jobs and positions for some people who supported the mayor, and she has more details on that, and i'll be posting that on my social media for the

i-team. >> dan noyes, abc seven news, and dan and kristen, an eye opening interview. >> dan, thank you so much. >> all right. all organizers of the fifth annual lake fest in oakland are determined to keep the juneteenth violence at lake merritt from marring their event . they're taking precautions to ensure safety is a top priority at tomorrow's summer festival. after 15 people were shot at lake merritt on wednesday night. it will be gated with security guards in full force as well as police on site. there's a strict no weapons policy and everyone will pass through metal detectors. more than 100 vendors will set up alongside lake merritt last year. 20,000 people attended, and organizers are hoping for a similar turnout this year. >> new details on a police investigation in newark. investigators say an officer shot a man who was welding a gun wielding a gun that is at a gas station. it happened this morning at the chevron on jarvis avenue near highway 84. police say the initial call was that a man was pointing a gun at passing drivers. when officers

got there, he pointed a weapon at them and didn't obey commands . >> there were multiple commands given that was very clear. they contacted him. they were in a very close enough range that he could be, clearly spoken to. >> an officer opened fire, shooting the man once, but not seriously injuring him. he's been identified as a 34 year old newark resident. police say his weapon turned out to be a replica of a glock pistol. the officer who shot him is on paid administrative leave as the investigation continues. >> all right, let's turn now to your accuweather forecast and a hot start to the weekend. abc seven news meteorologist sandyha patel is along with us now to tell us how hot it will get. >> all right. you might be seeking the coast out, sandy. yeah, that's right, because we have the coast to go to. >> dan and kristen, let's take a look at your 24 hour temperature change. it is warmer around the region 11es warmer in livermore, up seven. novato six degrees warmer in oakland. when

you take a look at those temperatures, you see 91 in fairfield. but it is not quite as warm in the city 65 degrees. so we do have our summer microclimates. it's only going to get warmer tomorrow. a heat advisory goes up for our inland valleys and mountains shaded in orange there from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. that advisory means that heat illnesses are possible, particularly for people who are sensitive, so you will want to take precautions. so when you ac here, it shows you the oranges here indicating moderate heat risk inland, the yellows right around the coast and around the bay is minor heat risk. but this is a time to stay hydrated and to keep cool. back to let you know how long the hot weather is going to stick around. coming right up, kristen. >> all right, sandhya, thank you so much. and speaking of the number of people dying on san francisco streets from accidental overdoses that ticked up last month, the department of public health says there were 66 overdose deaths last month, most caused by fentanyl. that's up
