and lisa. we're talking about it just really heating up today. >> yeah but only inland. so if you're at the coast or around the bay, it could be quite pleasant or even cool at times. you can see the low clouds and fog there from the san mateo coast. the marine county coast, and it's a compressed marine layer. so it will be burning off mostly, but not right at our beaches. heat alerts allowing for that advisory in our inland valleys and the hills there, the highlighted area, the diablo range, livermore valley, interior mountains of the north bay, east santa clara hills could see well into the upper 90s to near 100. but look at all the fog from our exploratorium camera. upper 40s half moon bay 51, san francisco. it is 55 over in oakland, and boy, those cameras change quickly. so now you see nothing. 40s and 50s. and from vollmer peak you'll see how quickly the temperatures are climbing 80s by noontime inland, 70s around the bay and partly sunny at the coast near 100 inland. so take it easy out

there, all right? >> yeah, that's always a good reminder. thank you. lisa, we still have not heard from oakland mayor xiang tao after the fbi raided her home. however, her attorney is talking and says she is cooperating with the investigation and is not the target. we begin our coverage of this developing story with abc seven news reporter anser hassan . >> it's really unfortunate that a search warrant was executed at her residence because the public appearance of that brings up images of corruption, and i can tell you, i have spoken to the u.s. attorney's office and i have no information that she's a target right now. >> tony brass, a former federal prosecutor and criminal defense attorney, is now the lawyer representing oakland mayor shengtao in a federal investigation. early thursday morning, more than a dozen fbi agents raided murtaugh's home in oakland. four hours later, they hauled off boxes and bags of evidence, brass points out the warrants were for the address where tao li's not for mayor tao specifically, it suggests that the information that they

wanted, whether that information itself suggests criminality or is simply something that corroborates other information, was located there or on a device. the feds also targeted two homes related to the duong family. they own california waste solutions, a garbage recycling company that operates in the east bay and south bay. the wong's are also huge political donors, but the fact that it's our mayor, it's someone who's in leadership that who you know, ousted the, police chief, nina joyner is a small business owner in oakland. she says tao is innocent until proven guilty, but her concern is how this will play out in the court of public opinion, especially as mayor tao is facing a recall in november. joyner is part of a growing chorus of people asking the mayor to resign. she believes mayor tao's personal issues are distractions that hurt oakland's reputation to attract talent and investments. >> we just had a shooting and we just got a we just got a chief of police and for this event to happen, we can't even have our

mayor come out. we couldn't have her come out and talk about it. this is this is this is unheard of. >> attorney brass wants to emphasize that mayor tao was not arrested and that there's no restrictions on her ability to perform her duties as mayor. legal experts tell us this investigation could drag on months if not longer. in oakland, anser hassan, abc seven news. >> well, in the day since the raids, we've been getting new information about the political corruption investigation from someone interviewed by the fbi, the mayor's former chief of staff, and she spoke to the i-team's dan noyes. >> not only did i run her office, i was very instrumental in helping run her campaign, ran a web, tells me she served as chief of staff for shengtao for a year and a half, and that she questioned the amount of money andy duong was funneling to the campaign. >> webb says she shared her concerns with the fbi in a meeting february 3rd of last year. she gave me texts and emails from the fbi that confirmed the meeting and just

the line of questioning. >> i could tell that they had already been looking into, you know, some of their kind of pay to play type of activities. oh really? >> what sorts of things were they saying in terms of the questions about pay to play, just about board appointments, about contracts, about andy, you know, about the duong family. webb says she knew thursday's raid by the fbi was coming. >> we spotted andy duong leaving his house and his name on evidence boxes that the irs agents carried out of the duong family business. california waste solutions, the lead investigator from the oakland public ethics commission, confirms to me that the duong's are still under investigation for a money laundering scheme. court documents i've received alleged that andy duong arranged contributions to candidates, including shengtao, using straw donors. some of the phony donors allegedly came from phuc tran, president of the vietnamese chamber of commerce. in response, phuc tran said he wouldn't cooperate in the

investigation. based on his fifth amendment right to be free from being compelled to incriminate himself. webb tells me the end for her as chief of staff came on the day tao was sworn in, and that the mayor's partner, andre jones, tried to bring his ex-wife into the ceremony. >> and finally, i was like, andre, i don't know what's wrong with you, but you got to get the hell out of here. i was like, this is too much. i don't know what's going on. xiang was all crying. she was like, why would you do this to me on my day? like, this is crazy. >> webb tells me she texted shengtao during the raid to say she's praying for the mayor. >> she has a good heart and she came in this wanting to do it. but sometimes that power and that machine just takes people to another level in the wrong direction. yeah, the way, wrong direction. and we're all paying the consequence for it. >> webb also tells me that andre jones, who doesn't work for the mayor's office, was trying to arrange jobs for her supporters for the i-team. dan noyes, abc seven news this is clearly an

ongoing investigation, and we're going to stay on it. >> so stay with abc seven news to learn the latest about what's happening with the mayor and how it will affect the city of oakland. we will continue to update abc seven news.com and the abc seven bay area app. happening today, oakland police will deploy additional officers at the fifth annual lake fest, just three days after 15 people were shot near lake merritt. organizers of the summer festival are determined to keep violence from marring their event. there's a strict no weapons policy and everybody will be passing through metal detectors, bellevue avenue, as well as side streets connecting to grand avenue, will be closed starting at 8:00 in the morning. more than 150 vendors will set up along lake merritt for people to enjoy some local food, beer, artists and music, and the event runs from 11 in the morning until seven in the evening. happening overnight, one person has died in san francisco following a shooting near the civic center. officers were called out to mission and ninth

streets at around 7 p.m, where they found the victim. police found and detained a possible suspect and according to the charges against him, david depape broke into nancy pelosi's house looking for her only her husband, paul was home as police responded to pop struck paul pelosi with a hammer, leaving him with a fractured skull. depape faced both federal and state charges, and now he's been convicted by juries in each case. abc seven news reporter tim johns has been following the ruling. for us. >> after several days of deliberation, a san francisco jury found david depape guilty on all charges in his state trial over the hammer attack against paul pelosi in the hallway of the courthouse to papp's public defender, adam lipson, saying both he and depape were disappointed by the jury's decision. he tells abc seven news he took particular issue with the prosecution, adding an aggravated kidnaping charge. >> it's really unfortunate it was charged this way. it was sort of a textbook vindictive

prosecution. as soon as they found out that the case was that the attempted murder charge was going to be dismissed, they added this charge, an accusation that san francisco district attorney brooke jenkins denied. >> jenkins, speaking to the press following friday's verdict at her office that was dealt with by the court. >> uh. we have charged. mr. we charged mr. depape with what he was guilty of as clear by the jury's verdict, according to california law, the kidnaping charge carries a life sentence without the possibility of parole. >> all of this coming after depape was sentenced last month to 30 years in prison in his federal case after he serves his 30 years in federal custody, he will be at the age of 75. >> instead of being deported back to canada, he will be brought back to california to spend the end of his life in a california prison. >> legal analyst stephen clark says despite lipson's objections to the outcome, he wasn't surprised by the jury's verdict. friday afternoon.

saturday morning from our sutro tower, and you could see just how foggy it is out there today. i know i definitely experienced a lot of fog when i drove into the city, so just keep that in mind if you're heading out on the road pretty soon. well, thieves accused of stealing $10,000 worth of stuff from a lululemon in san mateo led police on a chase into the city. san bruno police say that when officers responded to hillsdale mall for retail theft, the suspects fled to san francisco in a white suv and in the city, officers attempted a traffic stop and the suspects then allegedly ran away. after abandoning the car. three of the suspects were caught selling the

merchandise in the tenderloin. sfpd eventually arrested the fourth suspect. authorities say the vehicle they used in the theft was reported stolen. all four suspects were booked into san mateo county jail. well, we have been following the story for months now. and now a major milestone for the street vendors on san francisco's mission street. the city is letting some of them sell there again. abc seven news reporter luz pena shows you what changed their tents are set up, merchendise out, and now they have uniforms. >> these are the ten street vendors. san francisco is allowing back on mission street between 23rd and 24th streets. como vendedores we're recognized as street vendors. it's been a long process to get to this point. they pleaded with the city for seven months, followed the rules and sold merchandise at an indoor location, all while the city banned vending here to regain control of mission street from people selling stolen items

on sidewalks. >> we saw that calls for service from public works went down. we saw assault, burglaries went down. now we're looking. i just looked at the data. property crimes are down 23. if you compare the six weeks prior to the moratorium and the six weeks after the moratorium. so we are going to continue to assess the condition. >> public works inspectors are still in the area, with san francisco police officers making sure sidewalks are not blocked and only those with permits are allowed to sell. >> we know that the vendors that we're working with today have been good actors all along. we just want to make sure that more people aren't coming through now who don't have one of these ten permits. they're not setting up next to them or somewhere else on another block. >> the city street ban is still in effect until august 22nd. we captured the moment inspectors asked unpermitted vendors to move. the vendors you see out here are the lucky ones. they were selected through a lottery system. they all had to have previous permits to sell on mission street. now they're still a group who are hoping for

the city to expand. this pilot. >> we have to work a lot to make it better, but i feel like this is on the right way, the right step. luis ledesma is one of the ten lucky ones, very happy, very happy. >> we introduced you to luis and his wife back in january, when he said the ban contributed to his family ending up homeless and sleeping in their van. you donated to help them to get back on their feet. today they're living in temporary housing and have this message. >> they thank you for support me. thank you for everything in san francisco. >> luz pena, abc seven news in the north bay, investigators say that a woman was assaulted by a stranger while running on a sonoma county trail. >> it happened on thursday night around 8 p.m. this was on the joe rodota trail, which connects downtown santa rosa and sebastopol. the sonoma county sheriff's office says the victim was grabbed from behind and then forced to the ground. she told deputies that the man threatened to sexually assault her before

she was able to fend him off and then get away. anybody with any information is being asked to give them a call. a santa cruz county man is back home this morning after spending ten days in the mountains as he went for a hike, but says he got lost. rescuers finally found him late thursday. these pictures captured the moment he was found and reunited with his loved ones , and you could see the joy and the relief on everybody's faces. he was last seen in boulder creek and was found in big basin , redwood state park. abc seven news, south bay reporter lauren martinez talked to him about what happened and how he survived. >> a missing hiker found alive and the heartfelt reunion was all captured in these photos. 34 year old lucas mcclish spent ten days in the santa cruz mountains on tuesday, june 11th, mcclish headed out for a three hour hike from his hometown of boulder creek. he said he got lost and didn't recognize certain landmarks wiped out by fires. when he didn't show up for

father's day dinner, he was declared missing on sunday, june 16th, four days later, mcclish was rescued, i'm sure. >> a little tired. i lost my voice. >> we spoke with mcclish on friday about what he had on him at the time. >> i left with, just a pair of my pants and my pair of hiking shoes and, and that hat. i had a flashlight and a pair of folding scissors, like a leatherman tool . and that was about it. >> and how he survived. >> i just make sure that i drank at least a gallon of water every day. but then after, like, getting close to the end of it, i was just. my body needed food and some type of sustenance. >> the santa cruz county sheriff's office said they deployed drones, the cal fire, san mateo santa cruz unit, the boulder creek fire department and california state parks assisted in the search, the sheriff's office said on thursday. around three in the

afternoon, witnesses reported hearing someone yelling for help. mcclish was found in a remote canyon in big basin state park. he was moved to see all the boots and paws on the ground looking for him. >> this is really humbling and i don't know. it was an awesome experience. >> both him and his family are feeling grateful for all the help they've received. >> relieved. >> so thankful and blessed and they won't be hitting the trails any time soon. >> i didn't know hiking for probably the whole rest of the year. me too. >> we've all hiked a lot in the south bay. >> lauren martinez, abc seven news. >> well, good thing he's okay. beavers are back on tule river tribal lands in the southern sierra nevada after years of work by the tule river tribe, a family of beavers has been released into the south fork tule river watershed. it's all part of a partnership with the department of fish and wildlife

to reintroduce the beavers to manage the water supply, and also better conserve the tribe's drinking water. >> beavers are actually a water supply solution. they slow the water down in a waterway like this. they spread it out and they sink it. that is cool to see. well, biologists expect the beavers will also create a better habitat for a number of endangered species. it is going to be hot here in the bay area today in most areas. let's check in with meteorologist lisa argen tracking the forecast. and lisa, also i was talking about the morning my drive. it was so foggy. when will that burn off? >> probably close to the middle of the afternoon. it's only going to semi burn off i would say marin county. more likely than the coast around san mateo, but i think ocean beach will be sunny. and as you head down the san mateo coast, you'll get partly sunny conditions. and the further south you go, say montara. it will be pretty foggy, but partly sunny there. and then it quickly comes back to allow for that cooling throughout the overnight hours,

10 to 15 degrees above average. today, the first weekend of summer, and a sizzling hot day in pleasanton for the alameda county fair, there's a look at live doppler seven. you can see the marine layer from about san francisco all the way down to southern california. and we still have that fire, obviously to the north. a few fires burning and with the hot temperatures, moderate air quality right now, east bay, that's the way it's going to stay throughout the day. and the south bay with the good air quality in the north bay. this is a look at the surface smoke. and with the light winds this morning we're only going to get a breezy south wind throughout the afternoon. and so by 3:00 you'll notice still we have some haze out there. it kind of has been the case the past couple of days, primarily in the east bay, the santa clara valley. and then you add on that heat and a big heat dome that's going to allow for the moderate air quality for inland east bay, south central bay, and the santa clara valley. but then you get a little bit better south central bay into the second half of the weekend and everyone cools off. so the marine layer 900, 950ft this

morning and that burns back. it gets pretty shallow throughout the afternoon. but we are looking at that dense fog this morning. 56 in hayward, 59 in san jose, only 49 half moon bay and pretty gray here outside our window where you can see the low overcast 47 in santa rosa. that's stratus out there, 48 in petaluma, 56 in livermore it is sunny in the south bay, so a summer sizzle for one day. and we'll look at the cooling weather as soon as tomorrow as a trough of low pressure in the pacific northwest brings more of an onshore flow that influence from the ocean, cooling it off. but not today. inland valleys and hills, the heat advisory and then that fog staying right along the coast. so a good 40 degree spread from our shoreline to our inland valleys. 7:00 this morning. you can see how the fog gets pulled away by the middle of the afternoon from parts of the north bay, and then by the afternoon, we're still pretty foggy along the san mateo coast, but there'll be some sun from time to time. but already it is

7:00 and you've got the fog reforming. the sun doesn't set till eight 3589 in concord today. actually this is sunday, so the cooldown for sunday more like 98 to 100. in concord today , monday, temperatures will be in the comfort zone feeling summer like as well as tuesday. so after today we settle into a more typical summer like pattern. but today, how about 100 by the delta, antioch and livermore. lakeport 9988, in fremont, 93, in san jose. upper 70s. could be about 80 in oakland today, really far from records, though a good ten degrees from any records. the accuweather seven day forecast. so sizzling hot today inland we cool it back everywhere for sunday. then we sort of stay that way through the middle of the week and then further cooling thursday and friday. so of course fire danger is elevated with it being so hot out there. so take that. keep that in mind as well. >> and definitely just a quick heat wave and a last long at all . >> very brief. >> yeah. thank you lisa. well just ahead justin timberlake

>> the pop star was arrested on tuesday in sag harbor. excuse me, sag harbor, new york. sources tell abc news that he blew through a stop sign and swerved into the opposite lane. he claimed to have only had one drink, but police say that timberlake had bloodshot, glassy eyes, slurred speech and smelled of alcohol. the pop star has been ordered to appear virtually in court next month. and take a look at this. taylor swift with some royal fans. prince william and his two oldest kids, prince george and princess charlotte. swift shared the selfie on her instagram. her boyfriend travis kelce is also in the picture, posing backstage after her first london eras tour show. prince william also gave swift a shout out on his own instagram page, thanking her for a great evening and you could see right there they look so happy to be there. prince george and princess charlotte, even the royal family are swifties. all right, well, still to come on abc seven mornings a heat advisory today. expect triple digit temperatures

heat advisory in effect today for parts of the bay area. good morning. we are starting this half hour with a look at your weather because we are talking about that heat. here's meteorologist lisa argen. so lisa, it's going to be really hot in some parts. and then other parts not not so much. >> yeah it's very foggy as you and i know this morning, driving in, visibility reduced to under a half mile in spots. but the heat advisory is on for our

inland valleys. in the hills you can see the east bay there from danville and livermore, the hills, napa by the delta and down around san jose and gilroy will see temperatures well into the 90s. how about upper 90s? but with this fog here, as it's compressed, it's providing for a very tricky morning along the coast, and it's going to provide that cooling throughout the morning as well and into the afternoon in spots 51 san francisco 49 half moon bay. good morning, oakland 55 for you. and redwood city at the airport you'll get a nice sea breeze, but still, redwood city will be in the upper 80s today. 55 in fairfield, 100 this afternoon. that delta breeze pretty light, but there will be a breeze today. 48 in petaluma. and as we go through the next couple of hours this morning, 60s and 70s by 9:00, by 1 p.m, low to mid 90s inland. so it's a quick warm up. we'll see 80s around the bay shore, but you'll get a bit of a sea breeze. and look at that fog staying put from just around ocean beach right through half moon bay today. so we'll talk

about that cooler sunday coming up. >> gloria lisa thank you. and as lisa mentioned, the summer heat wave is setting in. some areas are expected to hit triple digit temperatures this weekend. abc news reporter alison kosik shows us how people across the country are dealing with these extreme temperatures. reporter. >> the weekend begins with more than 100 million americans under heat alerts in 15 states across the country. this week, extreme temperatures disrupting train services from new york to dc. amtrak suspending service for hours due to a malfunctioning circuit breaker. >> the train turned off and we were stuck on the tracks for, i think, maybe an hour or two with no air conditioning. >> in new york and new jersey, the rate of e.r. visits for heat related symptoms are up 800% in buffalo, schools handed out bottled water, but some students were frustrated they had to struggle through hours of

testing with no air conditioning. >> when you're trying to sit there and think and process and then you got the heat, it just drains you. >> on the west coast, phoenix red cross volunteers went door to door, sharing safety tips. >> if you have to be outside, be outside for only a minimal amount of time, as much as needed. definitely drink a lot of water. always stay hydrated. >> cities like washington, d.c. and baltimore could reach 100 degrees on both saturday and sunday, potentially setting record highs. there are also heat alerts in effect across parts of the southwest, with cities like las vegas and fresno all reaching triple digits in the coming days. alison kosik, abc news, new york. >> a controlled burn in the north bay turned into a perfect training opportunity. abc seven news reporter cornell bernard talked to firefighters who say wildfire activity is already off the charts. >> operation scorpion, that's 3

on the fire's edge has consumed pretty well over the last couple days, and we are tracking all of california's active wildfires online. >> so bookmark this so you'll have it handy all summer. it's at abc seven news.com/fire map. a man is in custody this morning after a shooting at an arkansas grocery store that killed three people and injured seven. police responded to the shooting at the mad butcher grocery store in fordyce. that's about 70 miles south of little rock. it happened about 1130 yesterday morning. two officers who exchanged fire with a suspect were also shot. police say they all have non-life threatening injuries. witnesses captured the scene on their cell phones. >> and then i seen a man he had. i think it was an ak. he had rounds and he was just shooting like he was shooting. and i locked the door and i got real low. >> investigators believe the suspect acted alone. so far, police are not saying what prompted that attack. the fbi and the atf have joined the

investigation. arkansas governor sarah huckabee sanders has been briefed on the shooting. the number of people dying on san francisco streets from accidental overdoses ticked up last month. the department of public health says that there were 66 overdose deaths last month, and that's up from 59 deaths in april. but may's number is right about average for the number of monthly deaths so far this year. the majority of deaths, 70, are attributed to fentanyl. could federal disaster relief funding run out when it's needed the most? disaster are impacting millions with extreme heat and wildfires, and now the first named storm of the season, tropical storm alberto, is hitting the texas coast. and this could be a particularly bad year. >> the forecast for named storms, hurricanes and major hurricanes is the highest noaa has ever issued for the may outlook. >> fema's most recent report

the upper elevations. temperatures coming up at least ten degrees from yesterday's readings. and then we're going to see numbers anywhere from 10 to 15 degrees above average. so the fog it is certainly here. it is dense in spots and the air quality moderate from the east bay to the south bay. it should stay that way. and we have a lot of fog out there right now. you saw the camera behind gloria. and check out pier 39, santa cruz, the golden gate bridge and our sutro tower camera, where salesforce is not quite buried in the deck of stratus, and it is shrinking the deck of low clouds. so there's a visual for you. and even with the fog and the sea breeze on track for this afternoon, we're still going to see those hazy conditions from the east bay and to the santa clara valley throughout the day. today, the winds not strong enough and the smoke just kind of lingering, especially underneath that dome of high pressure. sometimes we call that a heat dome. it really puts a lid on the atmosphere. so moderate air quality inland east bay today and tomorrow, south central bay today in the santa

tries to pull away from the marin county coastline. doesn't quite make it from the san mateo coast, so that's why we have the temperatures that will be pretty wide ranging. today. 87, cupertino 93, in san jose up a good ten degrees from redwood city, 84. palo alto, downtown about 70 degrees with sunshine, partly cloudy as get towards daly city in the sunset with that light breeze. the fog in place. 96 in santa rosa, lakeport, near 100 degrees 83 san leandro, heading inland. and this is where you're going to feel that sizzle from the upper 90s to 100 from pittsburg and antioch, with temperatures really a little bit hard to take . and the heat advisory on for that area, the accuweather seven day forecast. so hot day today certainly inland. and then the heat moderates on sunday. the cooling continues into early next week. but that will keep us where we are likely to stay for the next several days. and that's that range that we get in the summertime, 60s coast, low
