there is still no sign of oakland mayor shengtao tonight after the fbi raided her home and three other locations as part of some sort of investigation. but reaction is trickling in. good evening. i'm j.r. stone. we're still waiting to hear from the fbi on why agents showed up at the mayor's home on maiden lane in oakland before dawn on thursday. other

agents, including from the irs, raided the embarcadero offices of california waste solutions, which runs the city's recycling company. two homes on view, crest court and skyline boulevard, were also raided. they are connected to the duong family, which runs california waste solutions. as a federal investigation gets underway linked to business owners in oakland, the spotlight remains on oakland's embattled mayor. a growing number of voices are calling for shengtao to resign, including the oakland chapter of the naacp. abc seven news reporter anser hassan got an interesting, interesting that is reaction from one of the leaders of the recall effort. >> reporter saturday evening, oakland mayor sheng tao's house showed no sign that anyone was home, but on friday, the lawyer for the embattled mayor spoke about the pending federal investigation into possible public corruption. >> i would point out the search warrants were for the address. okay, okay.

>> and that's significant because it's significant because, again, we don't have any information that indicates that mayor tao is the target of the investigation. early thursday morning, fbi agents raided mayor tao's home and hauled away boxes of evidence. brass points out the warrants were for the address where mayor tao lives, not for mayor tao, specifically, the mayor has not been arrested. >> this is a search warrant only. there are no restrictions on the mayor. >> the feds also targeted two homes related to the duong family, who are big donors to oakland politics. though brass states the mayor doesn't face any restrictions, there's a growing number of voices in the community calling on the mayor to resign. >> resign and now mayor tao and let november 5th be the election day for a new mayor. >> on wednesday, the day before the raid, a rally was held in front of city hall to announce that city officials ratified the number of signatures necessary for the recall of mayor tao to qualify for the november ballot.

judge brenda harbin forte, a former alameda county superior court judge, says it's even more critical for tao to gracefully step down given this open federal investigation. >> the fbi is never going to tell you you are or not a target of an investigation. they don't have to tell you that, judge harbin forte says tao is entitled to the presumption of innocence, acknowledging that the tao hasn't even been charged. >> but the judge believes this investigation will be a distraction, especially as city council has to tackle a historic budget deficit. the oakland chapter of the naacp issued a statement reading, in part oaklanders deserve a mayor who's not distracted fully committed and able to lead the city, experts say this current federal investigation could take months, if not longer, in oakland, anser hassan abc seven news. >> this is clearly an ongoing investigation, and we're going to stay on it. so stay with abc seven news to learn the latest about what's happening with the

mayor and how it will affect the city of oakland. we'll continue to update abc seven news.com and the abc seven bay area app. we are going to turn now to weather, and it was a scorcher for parts of the bay area today in san francisco. ocean beach was a good place to stay cool. it was a bit foggy there this afternoon compared to the rest of the bay area. >> that's how i'm beating the heat today is right. i need to eat this fairly quick before i get covered in it. >> i think we need to eat that too. it's a good day for ice cream. out in the east bay. patios were packed in downtown walnut creek with people seeking shade. our microclimates were on full display this afternoon. the golden gate bridge was covered in fog. meantime, down in santa cruz near the boardwalk, it was perfect. beach weather. the fog did eventually lift, making for a clear view of the bridge. it's time now to get your 24 hour accuweather forecast. spencer is here. some people are definitely sweating it out today. spencer, what does sunday look like?

>> not quite so much sweat jr today. as you know we had a heat advisory in effect that has now been lifted. so there'll be some more comfortable weather coming our way tomorrow. here's a look at the 24 hour day planner. you can see 7:00 in the morning, some fog lingering at the coastline, but blue sky away from the coast. temperatures inland only about 60 degrees at 7:00 tomorrow morning, but by noon it will be warming up inland to mid 80s, up to about 70 around the bay shoreline skies getting sunnier and brighter. they'll remain sunny through the late afternoon hours, warming up to low 90s inland. tomorrow which is pretty warm. but today we had numerous locations at or above 100 degrees, mid 70s around the bay and the mid afternoon tomorrow going into the 7 p.m. or 8 p.m. hour. still mostly sunny because the sun doesn't set until well after 8:00. mid 70s inland low 60s around the bay. low 50s on the coast. there's more cooling coming our way. i'll have all the details in my accuweather seven day forecast a little bit later. >> jr spencer, thank you so much. san jose firefighters quickly knocked down this car fire that spread into some trees

and brush on southbound 101 near mckee road this evening. you can see some of the plume of smoke in some of this video. there off in the distance. it was there and visible for around 15 minutes. crews were able to put out the fire without much of a hassle. some lanes of southbound 101 were closed for the response cal fire says a fire that broke out sunday in sonoma county is now 85% contained. the so-called point fire has charred more than 1200 acres near lake sonoma, northwest of healdsburg. three structures were destroyed by flames. two others were damaged. evacuation orders have been lifted. cal fire says crews are pulling hoses in the mop up phase. the cause of this fire remains under investigation. firefighters are making progress on the state's largest wildfire. the sites fire in colusa county. containment on the sites fire is now at 38. firefighters shared video of some of the 64 miles of

control line they've built to keep this fire from spreading. it has scorched more than 19,000 acres, but cal fire says no buildings have been damaged. the area around lake merritt was packed today after what was a difficult week for oakland, police increased patrols for lakefest following a shooting on wednesday that left more than a dozen people injured, organizers tell abc seven news reporter cornell bernard they are staying positive. >> 3-6 lake fest is a family picnic. >> travel at hernandez and his crew ready to greet the public at lake fest, the event he founded on lake merritt. >> welcome to lake fest. thank you. >> this year, attendees are lining up outside for a security check. the festival, surrounded by blocks and blocks of fencing, travel, says it's all about safety. >> we gated the whole park, we're checking bags and making sure no one has weapons or

anything. >> on wednesday night, gun violence rocked a juneteenth celebration near lake merritt, oakland police say 15 people were wounded. the shooting is one of the biggest in the city's history, and a lot of my friends who are older, i'm 74, so a lot of my friends are older. >> like, well, i don't know, sandra. i don't know if it's going to be safe. >> sandra black says she isn't seeing big crowds at lake fest like last year, but assured her friends the festival is safe in the wake of the shooting. >> it's great. it's safe. there's plenty of police around that, don't. we cannot let these knuckleheads interfere with us living a good life. >> the opd providing a large police presence of 30 to 50 officers at lake fest inside the event and out with numerous street closures, so i think so. >> naturally there are some concerns. you can't help it. >> lemonade 510 owner jade lee was a bit reluctant about being a vendor at lake fest in the wake of the violence, but appreciate daetz security measures around the event. >> unfortunately, there is

violence. there's violence in america, there's violence in oakland, and we're going to move on and we're going to have a safe environment. free samples try to big surge. >> oseguera has been barbecuing delicious things at lake fest for years. >> this is our third year. we have never seen a fight, anybody arguing ever. so, you know, everybody's just here for a good time, so. right. >> for apple. >> chevelle was hoping 15,000 people would show up for lake fest to have a safe, relaxing, fun day. >> there aren't many things to do in oakland where we can all come together as one culture and enjoy ourselves. and we're hoping to do that and keep continue to do it in oakland, cornell, bernard, abc seven news. >> we now have a budget deal in sacramento tonight. state democrats have agreed to delay the planned health care worker minimum wage from taking effect to help close the state's more than $46 billion budget shortfall. health care workers were supposed to get a july 1st

raise, but under the terms of the deal, that will be delayed until october 15th, that's only if the state's revenues between july and september are at least 3% of what officials have estimated. if that does not happen, the soonest raise would take effect would be in january. three lawmakers will likely vote on the deal next week. state republican say they were left out of all of these negotiations is happening now. the twin peaks tunnel between the west portal and fort forrest hill stations is closed for repair work. the sfmta recently completed a structural inspection of the tunnel. it found it safe for passengers and workers, but two areas within the tunnel require some immediate repair work. muni metro service is interrupted for the k ingleside ride. the l taraval and the m ocean view lines. shuttle busses are connecting those lines, while the tunnel is closed through tomorrow, happening tomorrow in monterey county. caltrans will reopen highway one at paul's

zoo. the big challenge will be paying for them and we're getting a better idea of how much it will cost. the san francisco chronicle reports. the zoo's financial director put the cost at as much as $70 million for a decade. that includes the panda enclosure, thousands of pounds of bamboo per month and the cost to rent the pandas from china. animal rights groups claim 70 million is a low estimate. mayor london breeds fundraising plan is focused on raising 25 million. the zoo's deputy director says it's premature to put a price tag on what pandas would cost dog owners. if your pet uh- thinks flying commercial is too low brow, we have some great news for you. bark air, a newly launched boutique charter airline designed specifically for dogs, says it will begin flying to san jose in the fall. the company says it provides dogs with the ultimate and

pampered pooch. white paw service, attention and transportation all done on a fleet of private gulfstreams out of san jose bark intends to fly to new york and chicago. it already operates between new york and los angeles. starting fares on that route are only about $10,000. ouch happening now san francisco's first annual pride prom is taking place at the san francisco center. while it is open to everyone, the night is a way for lgbtq plus people to have a prom night specifically geared towards them. but as abc seven news reporter tim johns tells us, it's also a way to help revitalize the city's downtown core. yes, yes, i it was a night of music, dancing and a whole lot of pride. >> on saturday, the first annual pride prom was held under the rotunda of the san francisco center. >> come in a judgment free zone. express yourself. be bold. the only rule is you have to have a

great time. >> ben kaplan is one of the organizers. he says the goal of the prom is to create a fun and inclusive event for everyone. someone decided to do just that was angel tapia. tapia tells me she never got the chance to go to prom when she was in high school. >> i didn't come out in high school and i've never been very comfortable in the prom setting, so this is kind of my opportunity as a 25 year old woman to get that prom experience. >> organizers tell me the prom is about a lot more than just expressing one's pride, though. it's also a way to help revitalize the city's downtown core. supervisor matt dorsey represents this district and is openly gay himself. >> it's a prom, and i haven't been to a prom since i had a girlfriend. that's how long ago that was, dorsey says. >> events like these are exactly what the city needs right now. since the end of the pandemic, san francisco's core has struggled with empty office buildings, vacant storefronts, and lackluster foot traffic. the san francisco center mall itself has notoriously lost several big name stores in recent years. dorsey believes things like the

hayward held its fourth annual juneteenth freedom celebration today, calling understand finally, the event was held in downtown hayward on c street. it featured live music, delicious food, a beer and wine garden, as well as family fun. it was also a chance for the community to support local black owned businesses. spencer christian joins us now. always a fun event when you have all the people out there celebrating. >> it really is. and, you know, although it was really hot in our inland area today, hayward had perfect weather. i mean, it was it was toasty. there but not uncomfortable, you know. yeah, not not triple digits, not triple digits okay. not dangerous to your health. yes. great. deal with that juneteenth celebration. let's take a look at what's happening right now jr looking at the satellite radar composite image. you can see a little bit of an onshore flow developing which is going to be good if you're tired of the heat that we had today, it will bring us a little bit of a cooling

influence. right now the winds aren't very strong, but it's breezy out there and the nighttime temperatures are beginning to come down. but the 24 hour temperature change shows it's still 6 to 10 degrees warmer in most bay area locations than at this time last night. so that heat from this afternoon is just slowly fading. it's 56 in san francisco right now, 61 in oakland, hayward, 64, 70, in san jose. redwood city, 65 and 51 at half moon bay. nice unobstructed view, unobstructed by clouds or fog from mount tam looking down onto parts of san francisco. 59 of santa rosa right now, petaluma only 5261 at napa and we have low to mid 70s at fairfield, concord and livermore. now let's check out our forecast headlines tomorrow. the heat will be easing area wide early next week. temperatures start to moderate and then late next week we expect fog returning to the coastline. some of it will show up tonight, but i'm steady. reliable pattern of fog returning and of course a cooler weather pattern late next week. so for tonight we'll see the low clouds and fog pushing up to the coastline and pushing locally across the bay overnight. there'll be lots of patchy

drizzle offshore for a couple of spots of drizzle may hit the coastline, but we don't expect it to move inland and we'll start the day tomorrow with mostly sunny skies inland, but some lingering low clouds at the coast now. overnight, low temperatures will be mainly in the mid to upper 50s. some lower 50s closer to the coastline and in parts of the north bay. so mild overnight, not uncomfortably so. highs tomorrow much lower than the highs today. notice these inland east bay areas that all had triple digits today 91 in fairfield tomorrow 95 at antioch livermore 93. we had 102 at saint helena today up in the north bay tomorrow, 81 at napa, 89 at santa rosa and right around the bay shoreline, mainly mid to upper 70s tomorrow. now, as we look ahead to monday, you see temperatures continuing to come down. so that cooling trend continues. we'll see a couple of 90 degree or higher ratings inland on monday, then on tuesday, mainly upper 80s in the inland areas. and that'll be sort of a steady pattern going into the middle of the week before we get further cooling. and speaking of further cooling, here's the accuweather seven day

forecast. so fairly steady pattern tomorrow through wednesday of low to mid 90s as our inland highs mid to upper 70s around the bay shoreline about 60 on the coast. not much variation in temperatures on the coast for the week ahead. later in the week. notice how the highs drop down to about 88 to 90 in our inland areas, which is more of a seasonal range. mid 70s around the bay shoreline and again about 60 at the coast because not much changes at the coast weather. i mean temperature wise. >> somebody messaged me earlier today. they said, jerry, i'm in brentwood, it's 103, save me. and i said, wow, you got hot out there. >> it really did. it was a great day to bear in mind that you have to stay hydrated if you're outside, try to seek shade or seek air conditioning when you can, and don't overexert yourself. but it was a one day heat spike, not a heat wave. so we're very fortunate. >> thank you so much. yeah, still head on abc seven news at 11. say hey. the special tribute today in san francisco to the legendary willie mays

the first presidential debate of the 2024 election is just days away, and both candidates are busy preparing, but in very different ways. president biden is at camp david while the former president is on the campaign trail. here's abc's alison kosik. >> donald trump on the campaign trail this weekend, first in washington, spending to a group of conservative evangelical activists boasting about how he appointed the three justices who helped overturn roe v wade. >> we have also achieved what the pro-life movement fought to get for 49 years, and we've gotten abortion out of the federal government. >> the former president then traveling to philadelphia, where he downplayed his debate preparations. >> you know, when you say prep, i think this is prepping. these

people know better than anybody what they want. >> meanwhile, president biden is spending the weekend at camp david, his former chief of staff, ron klain, leading his debate prep campaign. officials say biden will be working on his attacks against trump on issues like reproductive rights, the economy and the former president's legal troubles. in an interview earlier this month with world news anchor david muir. biden laying out his strategy. >> all i have to do is hear what he says, remind people what he says and what i believe and what he believes. he's about him. i'm about the country. >> thursday's debate will be different than when the two men faced each other back in 2020. there will be no studio audience and the candidates mics will only be turned on when it's their turn to speak. trump appearing to feed off the crowd four years ago. >> i mean, the last debate i saw, i saw that some people were a little turned off by like trump's like demeanor. so if he can dial that back a little, i think that might be helpful. >> biden won a coin toss and got

of things. number one is the never activity of the press. and it's definitely not what you see today. i can't tell you how many people come and tour and visit us. no, but i'm saying they come and visit. they're like, san francisco's great. what's everybody talking about? >> other industries like tourism are expected to eventually bring business back to this location. >> the convention business. right. this was a down year, but in the coming years that will increase as well. and then i think most importantly is our office workers. >> when people are not going to come back, they've told me that do you work from from home at all? no, i do not. neither do i, yes. so i mean, how are we going to change that mindset? >> i think it comes from the top down. >> even some city workers are still working from home. a few days a week, despite mayor london breed insisting that they come back in person five days a week. >> we're four days a week, so i

agree with you. the city has to lead by example, and we've had that conversation with a lot of our big companies that we represent here, shifting from union square to the financial district, we find that the vacancy rate for commercial space in the area is 30. >> mark mcgranahan of avison young, a commercial real estate company, is a firm believer that residential housing downtown will help turn things around. >> we need more residential housing downtown san francisco, right? so i just came back from new york and in chicago, and there's much more housing, which then creates more retail, which then creates more activity and gets people more confident and comfortable to be here. so if we have conventions, we have visitors and we have more housing. that's just going to create the right fabric of the community to get those small businesses going and back to retail. >> gone are the days when many department stores needed those huge spaces. their format has gotten smaller because their business model is also supported by online shoppers. now, which brings us to the elephant in the

room or in this case, union square. macy's kazuko morgan told us she would make it a multi tenant location with different kinds of uses that would drive people in. we'll see in the newsroom. lyanne melendez, abc seven news spencer christian here. >> interesting story. the long debate there. can we call you mister microclimate tonight. you certainly can because it was like that around the bay area today. that's the story of bay area weather so often right? yes. the difference from one microclimate to the next. well, today we had heat just about everywhere except on the coast tonight, as you can see on the future cast, we'll get a little cooling relief and onshore flow, little return of the marine layer, some offshore drizzle. and that means the overnight temperatures will be in a fairly comfortable range. a little mild, but mainly mid to upper 50s. then tomorrow a much cooler day than today. we had so many locations today inland in the triple digits. tomorrow warmest locations inland will be in the low to mid 90s. we'll see upper 70s around the bay where today

the baseball world were saddened this week with the death of willie mays at age 93 on tuesday, just two days before the giants played a game in his hometown of birmingham, alabama. in the stadium where he first played pro in the leagues, the official announcement came in the middle of the giants game at wrigley field on tuesday night. coincidentally, the place where mays played the third most games in his career behind candlestick and the polo grounds. logan webb was a giant starter. learning of the news just before he headed to the mound to pitch the bottom of the fourth, and it shook him just as it did many others. i took my hat off and, you know, i was kind of looking at the scoreboard and just thinking about it, and i kind of looked at the umpire and i was like, i think you need to stop the clock because i, i had to take a moment to, you know, think about it and, be prideful for the jersey i was wearing, the hat i was wearing and know that, you know, willie did the same. >> you know, i grew up watching

games at candlestick park and loved baseball, you know, because of willie mays. i talked to him when i got the job. i called him and talked to him for a while, and, you know, he was he was great. and the fact that he even remembers me to me was an honor. but he was talking about my career and how happy he was to have me here again. and you know, knew i played before and, you know, it was it was just just an honor to talk to him. >> after wednesday's day game in chicago, the giants flew down to birmingham, alabama, to play the cardinals at rickwood field. it was a special day filled with a lot of emotion, shining a spotlight on the great history of the leagues and honoring the life and legacy of the say hey kid. 48 hours after t willie mays passing, a baseball game was played at rickwood field. the oldest ballpark in america. the night turned into a beautiful celebration of history of the leagues, and mays life on and off the field. the giants

lost the cardinals six five, and while the final score will fade from memory, the goosebump moments and historical impact will stand the test of time. >> birmingham i've been telling you all that if there's any way on earth my father could come down here, that he would. well, he's found another way. >> i felt his presence ever since then. i think we all have. and hopefully we start in some wins for him. >> as much as it hurts to lose a legend like that, you know, we gained an angel and a saint above us. >> obviously sad that you know he's not with us anymore, but it feels good. it feels right to be down here celebrating his life, knowing willie, you know, in the time that i spent around him, he just want, us to celebrate and just to be happy and not to be sad. >> if this was a hollywood script, we'd be like, of course, that's so cliche that, you know, the legend passes away right before the finish line, right before the glory. but he got to see it come to fruition. be a big part of it. willie. you know, got to play many games here at rickwood field. and the
