glowing with pride. >> a rainbow light displays illuminating market street tonight and will for the next three nights, 20 lasers are projecting color down the entire four mile stretch in what organizers are calling the world's largest pride flag. good evening. i'm ama daetz and i'm julian glover. >> we're just two days away from san francisco pride, and you can see that countdown at the bottom of your screen. >> san francisco's civic center is being transformed into an event hub for the weekend. and today at city hall, there were more than 200 weddings celebrating marriage equality. >> but we begin tonight at dolores park with a powerful display at a time when transgender rights are under attack in much of the country. abc seven news reporter ryan curry takes us to the 20th annual trans march. it's right to make noise not just for trans pride, but because this event has hit a milestone. >> it's the 20th anniversary of the trans march in san francisco. >> as a fellow trans person, it means a lot because you can see, you know, older trans folk, younger trans folk, and we're

all gathered in one place, all under, like the same umbrella of unity. >> on the friday ahead of pride weekend. it's all about embracing who you are. >> 11 years ago, i came here and it convinced me that i should be myself, and i've been coming here ever since. >> thousands showed up at dolores park. where there was live music, dancing and trans and pride flags waving high in the air. shortly after that, crowd gathered next to the park, hoisting a giant trans flag, and began marching into the heart of the city. many say san francisco is proud to be a haven for the trans community. >> we offer a model of how, you know places ought to be embracing difference and helping folks out where they need help, and lifting them up and helping them to achieve as well. march organizers say this is one of the largest trans events in the entire world. >> this is the 20th anniversary and it's so great to see so many people congregated here. just like i said, just being themselves and opening themselves up to the experience and being here in public.

the colors there on salesforce tower getting ready for pride weekend. and tomorrow morning there will be fog followed by sunshine. temperature will be in the low 70s. it is warmer for the parade on sunday, getting you up to 72 degrees. it's just going to be downright hotter next week. we have an excessive heat watch that goes up for all areas away from the coast and the city from tuesday morning until friday night, and that's because the heat will be enough to possibly cause heat related illnesses. as a matter of fact, the risk will be in the moderate to major category for many of our inland and bayside communities. so be prepared. we have a long stretch of hot weather headed our way. i'll be back with more on that heat wave coming right up. julian. >> okay, thank you so much, sandhya. now to some sad news tonight from the san francisco giants. just as the team is preparing a memorial for the great willie mays, another legacy giant star orlando cepeda has died. abc seven news sports director larry beil here with a look back at cepeda's life.

another one of these guys that was just larger than life. it's. >> yes, and it's a really rough time. the giants have one after another and they were teammates. orlando cepeda, known as the baby bull or cha-cha, played in the 50s, and 60s cepeda suffered a stroke and a bad fall back in 2018. and now his passing away at the age of 86. orlando cepeda broke into the major leagues in 1958, the year the giants moved from new york to san francisco. that season, he took home rookie of the year honors and hit a home run in his second ever at bat. >> i don't believe in pressure, so i just try to be myself. i have the confidence that i was a good ball player, cepeda, known as the baby bull for his power at the plate and chacha for his love of life in his native puerto rico, was a seven time all star in his 17 seasons in major league baseball before retiring in 1974. >> he was a lifetime 297 hitter with 379 career home runs and 1364 runs batted in. he hit over

309 times in his career. cepeda spent his nine seasons with the giants alongside greats willie mays and willie mccovey, before being traded to saint louis in 1966, winning the comeback player of the year award that season. the following year, he won the national league most valuable player award, leading the cardinals to the world series title. cepeda was inducted into the baseball hall of fame in 1999 on a veterans committee ballot. only the second puerto rican native ever to be enshrined in the hall. >> i want to say thank you to all the people in san francisco. >> two weeks prior to his induction, the giants retired his number 30 at candlestick park. he's one of just ten players in giants history to have their jersey retired. >> right now, it's what you say. thank you that i was a baseball player. >> the baby bull is also in the puerto rico sports hall of fame and the missouri sports hall of fame. in 2004, chacha was one of the four men to receive the major league baseball players alumni association's achievement award, their highest honor.

starting in 1987. he worked for the giants as a community representative and became a member of the giants community fund advisory board. cepeda was also recognized nationally for his humanitarian efforts as an ambassador for baseball. cepeda is survived by his five sons, one. his legacy is a permanent fixture, as one of the statues you see when you enter oracle park. we lost willie mays ten days ago. now his teammate cepeda is gone as well. a really rough month for the giants family. >> losing legends will certainly be remembered fondly. >> absolutely appreciate it. >> thank you larry. >> we move now to an update from our i-team today. a convicted serial shoplifter is now out of jail on mandatory supervision. you can see here aziza graves leaving court. earlier today, a jury convicted her of stealing more than $60,000 worth of items from stores like safeway and target. the judge agreed to the prosecution's request of a two and a half year sentence, but he

ruled that it could now be on probation, as she's already served nearly eight months in jail. >> the oakland city council is about to miss the deadline to vote on their multibillion dollar budget. today's lengthy talks were tied up in debate over the mayor's proposal to sell the oakland coliseum site. there are currently two versions of this budget. one does not include the sale of the coliseum and calls for major budget cuts. the other version includes the coliseum sale, but there are concerns that will not be finalized in time to prevent those cuts. >> one of those budget options is fiscally irresponsible. it should have never been presented. assuming that a windfall of money was going to be here with the purchase and sale agreement, supporters of the budget that includes the stadium sales say they are confident in the documented deal and are open to including contingency plans that will kick in months from now. >> a final vote on the budget is due at some point next week.

>> new developments in the fraud scheme involving the adhd drug adderall. tonight, five more defendants associated with the california based digital technology company dun global incorporated inc. have been charged. a florida nurse practitioner is accused of prescribing more than 1.5 million pills without interacting with patients. prosecutors say doan's auto refill policy allowed patients to obtain continued prescriptions after one initial encounter with a medical professional. >> it is time now for a special supreme court edition of news to know where we catch you up on the headlines. you shouldn't miss out on. tonight. we're diving into two supreme court decisions with massive implications for us here in the bay area. and the most important opinion of the term is still to come. first, a decision years in the making, dramatically changing how the bay area handles homelessness. the us supreme court is clearing the way for cities to punish people for sleeping outdoors. >> homeless people are already suffering out on the streets and

this is a big kick in the knees. >> the court's conservative majority found finding unhoused people is not necessarily cruel and unusual punishment, even when shelter space is not available. it's a decision leaders like governor gavin newsom and san francisco mayor london breed had hoped for, saying fines are a tool to keep streets clean and clear. >> we will be able to take progressive action in order to get people off the streets and make them more uncomfortable about trying to be on the streets in the first place. >> also today, a seismic shift to the way our government regulates everything from air and water to schools and guns. the court overturned a 40 year old ruling known as the chevron doctrine. judges will no longer have to follow expert recommendations from federal agencies like the epa and the fda. when laws are unclear, the repeal could dramatically impact california's safety and environmental regulations. the supreme court seems to be saving its most consequential ruling. for last. they're set to issue

their opinion monday on whether presidential immunity protects former president donald trump from prosecution. trump is trying to quash federal charges over his efforts to hold on to power after his 2020 election loss. the trial on conspiracy charges is delayed, waiting for the supreme court's decision. >> well, it was business as usual today for the presidential candidates following the first debate of the 2024 election, president joe biden and former president donald trump were back on the campaign trail. former president trump addressed his fans in virginia. biden was in north carolina today. he appeared more energetic, not directly addressing his debate performance, which is causing consternation in the democratic party. >> people concerned, supposedly. can we approach joe biden and ask him to withdraw? should nancy pelosi and chuck schumer exert their leadership and go to the white house and say, it's up, you're just too old. it's time to make a path for a new candidate. the short answer to that is no. no one's going to do

they promised to open in june, even started selling tickets. san jose mayor matt mehan was even supposed to be there tomorrow, as the park was set to reopen. in a facebook video, the park's general manager says anyone who purchased tickets for saturday through wednesday will get an email about refunds, the bill that would allow restaurants to opt out of the state's junk fees ban is now on the governor's desk. >> restaurants will be able to keep their surcharges as long as they are clearly communicated to customers. if the governor signs the bill now, the golden gate restaurant association welcomed the exception, saying transparency is critical and customers should never be surprised by their bill. >> tomorrow in san francisco, a 4th of july parade with a bit of a twist. it's happening along san francisco's great highway. all the floats as you see them here will be pedal in people powered uh- people did their decorating at an event today. that's the video we're looking at here. the friends of the great highway have partnered with the san francisco recreation and parks department

to put on the parade. it follows the great highway from noriega to judah and starts at noon tomorrow. >> taking a live look at our local airports. the july 4th travel rush is in full swing and today is likely to be the busiest day leading up to the holiday. the tsa was expecting to screen more than 3 million people at airports today. that would be at a record just set last sunday, which was the tsa's busiest day ever. the agency predicts 32 million americans will travel between now and monday, july 8th, after the long holiday weekend. >> we want to tell you about some new restrictions that could be coming to limit the crowds at big stores. most popular spots. one of them, the u.s. forest service, is considering requiring reservations at pfeiffer beach. that's the place with the purple sand. it's one idea and a bigger plan. the forest service also suggested a running a shuttle, stopping at the iconic bixby bridge and other spots meant to cut down on traffic in the area. they could also create more designated campsites to try and limit dispersed camping. you can

morning. temperature at 63 degrees at noontime. the sun's out. it's warming up in the early afternoon into the low 70s, and it's still pretty mild at 4:00 in the afternoon. a little breezy out there as well. let's talk about what's ahead for next week. summer sizzle is coming our way. an excessive heat watch will go up for all areas away from the coast and the city. we are expecting days of triple digit heat in our inland communities. here's why. area of high pressure is going to build in and it's going to take over the west coast. so there's going to be a prolonged period of warm to hot weather well above average for this time of year. here is a quick look at what's to come tuesday. you see those triple digits inland mid one hundreds expected even hotter on wednesday. we're getting you up to a 107 in clear lake thursday, which is 4th of july. you're still dealing with that summer sizzle. the good news is the coast is still going to remain in the comfort zone, with mostly 60s and 70s on live doppler seven. right now all is quiet. we do have the fog outside along the coast and

around the bay. temperatures right now anywhere from the 50s to the 70s. here's the look at golden gate bridge, and you can see it's a little murky with the fog this weekend. mild at the coast, warm inland for the pride parade. it is looking nice and a dangerous heat wave is headed our way with warm to hot weather next week. let's go hour by hour. tomorrow morning when you wake up. if you do wake up at seven, there will be some fog around. it is going to be pretty thick and then as we head into the afternoon hours, it pulls back to the beaches and hangs around here. for the rest of you, you're looking at sunshine and around the 4:00 hour 80s and 90s inland 60s coast side, the fog should peel away from most areas, except for a few patches near the beaches. your temperatures first thing in the morning will be in the 50s and the 60s. here's a look at your afternoon highs in the south bay. 87 degrees in san jose, 88. in morgan hill on the peninsula, you're looking at 84. in redwood city, 64 degrees pacifica, downtown san francisco, 70 degrees. a nice day in the north

bay, san rafael 87 up into the 90s. calistoga santa rosa 85, in vallejo, heading into the east bay. 76 in oakland, 82 degrees in fremont. these temperatures a little bit higher than where they should be for this time of year 92. in the inland east bay in concord, 94 fairfield, 92 degrees in livermore. here's your accuweather seven day forecast. it's going to be warm inland, mild at the coast. perfect parading weather on sunday. and then we head into july and the temperatures will soar into the triple digits. the hottest weather will be midweek 108 inland 90s coast side 70s around the bay for the 4th of july. the heat does start to ease, but it's still going to be hot. i mean, that stretches all of monday through friday. and julian. so really we're going to be in for it for a while.
