francisco giants legend, orlando cepeda. >> a look back on the hall of famer's life and career. then water park reopening on pause. why a south bay attraction is pushing back. its much anticipated opening day. good morning everybody. it's saturday, june 29th. we're going to start with the weather and more on this warmth. >> yes, you know, it's getting going slowly this weekend. it's going to be nice. and the hot weather is going to be an extended period of hot weather with an excessive heat. watch already posted by the national weather service. so cloud free except at the coast. we have some patchy dense fog and there's a look at mount tam right now. the sun coming up at five 5154 san francisco 56. in oakland. san jose is 60 and we're only 54 at the coast. and look at that shot from our sutro tower camera. very cool where we're in the low 50s. santa rosa 48, petaluma 60 by the delta. so as we look at our 24 hour

temperature change, 2 to 6 degrees milder and the next several hours will warm quickly to the mid 80s. by noontime. inland, 70 around the bay mid 90s will be our afternoon highs and our warmest interior valleys with upper 70s along the bay shore keeping it cool at the coast. and we'll talk about perfect pride parade weather and that warm up that looks to take us through the entire week next week. coming up stephanie. >> all right, lisa, thank you. police are looking for a newborn baby who has been reportedly abducted in solano county. here are some photos. the chp issued an amber alert just hours ago. braxton manning, who was born a little over a week ago, is missing and police believe he is with 28 year old valerie manning, the chp says they were last seen in vallejo at 3 a.m. on thursday. both the baby and the woman have brown eyes and brown hair. as you can see, they're believed to be in a black, car with a license

2zrd090. we are 24 hours away from the san francisco pride parade, and you can see our countdown at the bottom of your screen. san francisco's civic center is being transformed into an event hub for the weekend. abc seven news reporter ryan curry takes us to the 20th annual trans march. >> it's right to make noise not just for trans pride, but because this event has hit a milestone. it's the 20th anniversary of the trans march in san francisco. >> as a fellow trans person, it means a lot because you can see, you know, older trans folk, younger trans folk, and we're all gathered in one place all under the same umbrella of unity on the friday ahead of pride weekend. >> it's all about embracing who you are. >> 11 years ago, i came here and it convinced me that i should be myself, and i've been coming here ever since. >> thousands showed up at dolores park where there was live music, dancing and trans and pride flags waving high in

the air. shortly after that, crowd gathered next to the park, hoisting a giant trans flag, and began marching into the heart of the city. many say san francisco is proud to be a haven for the trans community. >> we offer a model of how, you know places ought to be embracing difference and helping folks out where they need help, and lifting them up and helping them to achieve as well. >> march organizers say this is one of the largest trans events in the entire world. >> this is the 20th anniversary and it's so great to see so many people congregated here. just like i said, just being themselves and opening themselves up to the experience and being here in public. >> they say it started with an anonymous email sent to several community activists, one email, and now, 20 years later, it is one of the biggest events in a city known for celebrating pride. >> there is a place that sees them and celebrates them, and you know if you can't make it work and wherever you are, wherever you are, you can you

can come here to see my fellow trans siblings of all varieties, like again in one place, under the same general, you know, positive banner, a positive banner that will be up for the rest of the weekend in san francisco. >> ryan curry, abc seven news. >> well, as we begin to celebrate all things pride this weekend, here are some activities happening today in san francisco. starting at 8 a.m. grab a cup of coffee or sign up for a yoga class at pride for breakfast. right at civic center plaza at 830. more than 500 runners will participate in the sf front runners pride run in golden gate park, then later enjoy the sf pride civic center celebration that runs from 11 to 6 at the kaiser permanente main stage on park street between mcallister and grove. now, abc seven will bring you where the celebrations are all weekend long. we are proud to be the official station sponsor for the san francisco pride parade. our coverage kicks off tomorrow at 10:00. the parade starts at 1030. you can

see it wherever you watch abc7. turning to some sad news this morning from the san francisco giants as the team is preparing for a memorial for the great willie mays. another legacy giant star orlando cepeda has died. cepeda was known as the baby bull throughout the 50s and 60s for a look back at his life and legacy, here's abc seven sports director larry beil. >> orlando cepeda broke into the major leagues in 1958, the year the giants moved from new york to san francisco. that season, he took home rookie of the year honors and hit a home run in his second ever at bat. >> i don't believe in pressure, so i just try to be myself. i have the confidence that i was a good ball player, cepeda, known as the baby bull for his power at the plate and shachar for his love of life in his native puerto rico, was a seven time all star in his 17 seasons in major league baseball before retiring in 1974. >> he was a lifetime 297 hitter with 379 career home runs and

1364 runs batted in. he hit over 309 times in his career. cepeda spent his nine seasons with the giants alongside greats willie mays and willie mccovey, before being traded to saint louis in 1966, winning the comeback player of the year award that season. the following year, he won the national league most valuable player award, leading the cardinals to the world series title. cepeda was inducted into the baseball hall of fame in 1999 on a veterans committee ballot. only the second puerto rican native ever to be enshrined in the hall. >> i want to say thank you to all the people in san francisco. >> two weeks prior to his induction, the giants retired his number 30 at candlestick park. he's one of just ten players in giants history to have their jersey retired. >> right now, it's what you say. >> thank you that i was a baseball player. >> the baby bull is also in the puerto rico sports hall of fame and the missouri sports hall of fame. in 2004, shachar was one of the four men to receive the

major league baseball players alumni association's achievement award, their highest honor. starting in 1987. he worked for the giants as a community representative and became a member of the giants community fund advisory board. cepeda was also recognized nationally for his humanitarian efforts as an ambassador for baseball. cepeda is survived by his five sons, one. his legacy is a permanent fixture, as one of the statues you see when you enter oracle park. >> orlando cepeda's wife says he died peacefully at his home while listening to his favorite music surrounded by family. he was 86 years old in the east bay. the oakland city council is about to miss the deadline to vote on their multi-billion dollar budget. friday's lengthy talks were tied up in debate over the mayor's proposal to sell the oakland coliseum. there are currently two versions of the budget. one does not include the sale of the coliseum and

calls for major budget cuts. the other version includes the coliseum sale, but there are concerns that won't be finalized in time to prevent the cuts. >> one of those budget options is fiscally irresponsible. it should have never been presented. assuming that a windfall of money was going to be here with the purchase and sale agreement, supporters of the budget, including the stadium sale, say they are confident in the documented deal. >> they also say they're open to including contingency plans that would kick in months from now. a final vote on the budget is due next week. oakland police kick off a summer safety plan today with a focus on preventing violent crime. the department says its aim is proactive policing, community engagement and effective incident response. officials plan to refocus on operation cease fire. the city's crime prevention program helped reduce shootings and homicides after its introduction in 2012,

but the city shifted away from the ceasefire model during the pandemic. chp and alameda county sheriffs will collaborate with opd for drunk driving enforcement all summer. the radisson hotel in oakland is facing a lawsuit for wage theft. the city's department of workplace and employment standards previously found the hotel failed to pay 128 workers the minimum wage. now, those payments are mandated by city law. the oakland city attorney's office is now suing to recover lost wages for those workers, many of whom are people of color and women. the lost wages exceed $400,000. now to an update from the abc7 news i-team, a convicted serial shoplifter is now out of jail on mandatory supervision. you can see here aziza graves leaving court yesterday, a jury convicted her of stealing more than $60,000 worth of items from stores like safeway and target. the judge agreed to the prosecution's

request of a two and a half year sentence, but he ruled graves could now be on probation. she already served nearly eight months in jail. all right, as we head to break, let's check in with lisa. good morning. >> good morning. probably the coolest shot out there right before that banner, you can see some of the fog in the foreground and of course, the clear sky in the background and the laser there. it is going to be a beautiful day today. we do have a good deal of fog at the shoreline, so you're going to have to enjoy the sea breeze in that for the next few days, because our heat wave that's coming, it is going to be prolonged and excessive. so we'll talk about triple digits, how warm it's going to get at the coast. and when we'll return to this pattern, which is kind of the perfect summer pattern when we return. >> lisa, thank you. also ahead, a church volunteer in the east bay arrested for sexual assault. police now believe there could be more victims and a new parade hits the great highway today, the 4th of july celebration

has been arrested on rape charges. 37 year old miguel villalobos. is charged with two counts. he worked at saint clement church in hayward, as well as churches in richmond and concord. police say a female accuser contacted officers back in march, and she claims he sexually assaulted her over several years while she attended music lessons at saint cornelius church in richmond. villalobos was the church's music director at the time, and we are showing his photo now because police believe there may be other victims. police are urging anyone who had inappropriate contact with him or knows of any other incidents to come forward. and as always, a reminder if you need someone to talk to or would like support, check out local resources at abc7 news .com. take action. an update to a

story we first brought you earlier this week. a newark city council member who abruptly resigned is now speaking about his decision. mike bucci says his family has been unable to buy a home in newark despite making a dozen offers. it's a dream of his family's and now he's facing a deadline. he says his landlord passed away a couple of months ago, and now he's worried about what's next. >> there's no future for us here, and it kills me because i grew up here, you know, i'm newark memorial, class of 96. i'm as newark as it gets just not right. >> bucci was first elected to the newark city council in november 2014. now, the council decided to invite applicants to fill the seat until a special election can be held in november. new developments out of the south bay calabanga the revamped raging waters will not

open today as promised. the water park says it discovered electrical issues and has to push off opening day until july 4th. so not too long. calabanga ceo was pretty honest last month about some of the challenges of reopening this park. >> do you ever see the movie the money pit? this is it. >> the park promised to open in june and even started selling tickets then. and a facebook video. the general manager says anyone who bought tickets for today through wednesday will get an email about refunds. now you can celebrate the 4th of july, but not with a drink in your hand. that's the case at three of lake tahoe's most popular beaches. police will be enforcing the u.s. forest service's ban on alcohol at nevada beach and zephyr cove resort. officials have banned alcohol consumption at chambers landing beach from july 3rd through july 7th. infractions could result in fines of up to $5,000. now, as you start to

make your 4th of july plans, so-called safe and sane fireworks are now on sale in dublin. abc seven news reporter lena howland explains how sellers plan to distribute them safely. >> nonprofits across dublin are gearing up to help celebrate america's birthday with a bang for dublin high for athletics. >> this is our biggest fundraiser of the year. >> 15 safe and sane fireworks stands across dublin opened at noon on friday. each one is operated by a different organization, which gets to keep 50% of the proceeds. the dublin high school booster club is one of those groups. >> yeah, every year we get people from all over the bay area that come and purchase their fireworks. >> the money that we raise goes for uniforms. anything related to athletics. when they have meets anything like that for the trainers. >> tim putney, here from san ramon, was one of the first in line. >> i'm a little surprised that they're still doing it with everybody else pulling back, but

but you know glad they are. i think it's a lot of fun. and you know it's done the right way and safely. you know people can have a lot of fun. >> the use of safe and sane fireworks is only permitted at single family homes here in dublin, and four different parks across the city, including here at emerald glen park. >> that parking lot gets filled that night with people using their safe and sane fireworks. they put on a great show without needing to explode or rise. but in the bay area outside of dublin, newark and union city, even these safe and sane fireworks are illegal because of fire risk. >> fortunate that every year we run over 50 vegetation fires from these fireworks on 4th of july last year, two structure fires resulted from those. >> california has already seen an explosive start to fire season, and the contra costa fire protection district is bracing for the worst. >> and what's coming our way next week is a heat wave. locally within contra costa. we're anticipating a 105 degree temperatures in antioch on

wednesday, and this is setting the stage for very dangerous holiday weekend. >> fireworks stands will stay open until noon on july 5th in dublin. lena howland abc seven news. >> today in san francisco, a 4th of july parade with an early twist. it's happening along san francisco's great highway. all the floats will be powered by people pedaling, and you can see those floats getting all fancy with decor. the friends of the great highway are partnering with the san francisco recreation and parks department to put on this parade, and it follows the great highway from noriega to judah. the parade starts at noon today. so, lisa, a 4th of july parade. but we're not quite in july yet. almost. >> you know, usually we have some, you know, sort of coolish weather. i don't really remember it being super hot, but it is going to be we're looking at an extensive warming trend that's going to last through the 4th of july. but i think the peak heat is going to arrive tuesday and

wednesday, july second and third. but we are looking at the possibility of the watches being extended into next weekend. so as we look at live doppler seven right now, there's a system offshore and that is actually going to keep us comfortable for today and tomorrow. you can see the low clouds, the fog, the beautiful view from mount tam here. current temperatures are in the 50s. it's 54 san francisco, half moon bay, 56 in oakland, 57, in hayward, 60, in san jose, redwood city, good morning to you. 57. and of course, this very cool shot here from our sutro tower camera with the fog. it is 53 santa rosa, 48 petaluma. so certainly some cooler numbers in our protected valleys. 55 napa was 60 by the delta, 61 in livermore. and final stop there in san jose. so over the weekend we're mild at the coast, warm inland. we will have the fog from the san mateo coast, but it will break through a little bit. it will be sunnier around marin county and comfortably cool for the pride

parade. looking very nice with temperatures well into the 70s tomorrow downtown and for the upcoming workweek or holiday week, i should say it's going to be warm to hot. and in fact, we're talking temperatures could be higher than 107 in some parts of our inland valley. so our excessive heat watch from 11 a.m. on tuesday through friday night. now we're not going to see a whole lot of recovery at night. the heat is going to build from day to day. so unless you have air conditioning, hopefully you can make some plans to try to cool off throughout the evening hours. and as i said before, this could last into next weekend. so we're looking at that peak heat come tuesday and wednesday. here's a look at our beaches. so if you want some relief, there, the coast today will be pleasant. in fact, it's going to be a nice afternoon today. a little bit above average, not too much. 72 stinson with some sun. but the further south you get from ocean beach, pacifica, half moon bay, we'll call it partly sunny with that sea breeze coming into play. so plans for tomorrow look

hours, 9:00 we're all in the 60s except right at the coast, san francisco, half moon bay, and then by noontime, look at those 80s arrive inland mid 70s. bay shore keeping it cool at the shoreline with that fog from half moon bay. afternoon highs from the low to mid 90s inland. upper 70s bay shore, maybe about an 80 degree reading in fremont. low 90s in santa rosa and the evening is comfortable and warm. nice summer night inland. we're going to talk about when the heat cranks up and for how long it will be quite warm, and an extended length of time. that's all coming up in a few minutes. stephanie. >> all right, we look forward to it. thank you lisa. now to your voice. your vote. the president and former president are sending different messages of defiance following their first debate. they both held campaign events one day after they faced off on stage. abc news reporter johny fernandez has mixed reaction from voters. >> former president trump and president joe biden both hit the campaign trail friday after sparring in their first presidential debate. president

biden, speaking to supporters in raleigh, making the case that he's going to push forward in the race. >> i know how to do this job. i know how to get things done. and i know, like millions of americans know, when you get knocked down, you get back up >> meanwhile, some voters concerned after his shaky performance. i'm really nervous. >> like i'm gonna show up for democrats. i'm gonna volunteer. i'm. i'm concerned about the ability to like to kind of come back from that. >> donald trump, who was criticized for an avalanche of lies during his performance, including defending those convicted in the riot at the capitol on january 6th and repeatedly dodging questions on whether he would accept the results of the upcoming election. trump on friday focusing on biden's performance during a rally in virginia. >> joe biden spent the entire week at camp david resting, working, studying. he studied very hard. he studied so hard

that he didn't know what the hell he was doing publicly. >> top democrats declaring their allegiance for biden privately a democrat in congress saying the debate was a disaster for biden and questioning if democrats should be backing someone else. johnny fernandez, abc news, new york. >> new this morning some people can hold off a little longer on their student loan repayments. the biden administration has paused its student loan collection. about 3 million borrowers loans will go into forbearance, meaning payments and interest will be suspended. it's in response to the courts halting biden's save program. the program provides a repayment plan for borrowers based on income and household size. the education department has not said when the pause will take effect. also new this morning, some much needed gaza aid is backed up due to a dispute over security concerns. united nations officials have requested

aid workers wear protective gear when going into the strip. israeli defense forces have opposed the request and fear the gear gets into hamas's hands. the un responded, threatening to suspend aid operations in gaza until their needs are met. meanwhile, the u.s. military built pier has been pulled from the gaza shore again because of rough seas. the supreme court is clearing the way for cities to enforce bans on unhoused people sleeping outdoors. now that includes in the bay area, where shelter space is limited, the high court ruled in favor of grants pass, oregon, and its ban on sleeping in public. those who violate the ban will face fines and possibly jail time. san jose mayor matt mehan says the decision provides clarity on the issue, but he says it does not change his city's overall strategy for dealing with homelessness. >> it doesn't change our immediate need to get over 1000 people out of our waterways to

in california, but the lgbtq plus jewish and muslim communities have seen an increase. overall, reported hate crimes decreased by 7.1% last year from 2022. anti-black bias events remain the most prevalent despite a 20.6% drop. anti-asian hate crimes decreased by nearly 11, but anti-jewish bias crimes increased by nearly 53. it went up by 60% against the muslim community and hate crimes against the lgbtq plus community increased by more than 84. an important reminder of resilience as we honor and celebrate gay communities here at home and abroad, we are counting down to tomorrow's pride parade here in

along smoothly. it's 547. in sports. a somber evening last night at the dodgers giants game at oracle park, another forever giant. orlando cepeda has died. here's abc seven sports director larry beil. >> good morning everybody. the giants opened a series with the dodgers last night. sadly, in the middle of the game, we learned of the passing of the baby bull, orlando cepeda, an 11 time all star. cepeda was the mvp in 1967. teammate, a fellow hall of famer willie mays, who passed away less than two weeks ago. another forever giant gone. cepeda spent nine years with the giants, and while we acknowledge the past, the games do go on. giants were down two nothing in the fifth. luis matos out of here, his second homer in three games, his fourth of the year.

giants face the dodgers again today? first pitch here at home is at 415 lisa what a gorgeous day. >> how about 67. and winds at about 15 to 18 miles an hour at 415. so a beautiful day today tomorrow. and we are looking at some changes as we head towards the beginning of july that will last through the holiday and potentially into next weekend. you see a weak system offshore. this is what's going to keep the fog with us. you can see from our golden gate bridge camera how foggy it is. in fact, some of this is quite dense closer to the coast. we're 54 downtown, 56 in oakland and redwood city with 60 in san jose. and a look at sfo, where the peninsula we'll see widespread 70s, even some mid 80s once again for redwood city. so a nice afternoon, nice summer afternoon on the way. 53 santa rosa. it's 55 in napa with 60 by the delta, 61 in livermore and some nice colors there from mount tam. so this weekend it's

mild at the coast that 60s, a few 70s warm inland, low to mid 90s. so what you would expect for summertime, the pride parade looking very nice with the temperatures quite comfortable. that sea breeze and even some patchy fog at the coast. and then dangerous heat wave with an excessive heat. watch issued by tuesday. but the temperatures will start to come up on monday and they could last the warm temperatures into next weekend. that first weekend of july, there's a look at the low clouds and the fog this morning. they stay at the coast. they get a little patchy and then some more. cloud cover moves in late saturday into sunday, but then it clears and we're back to the low clouds. the fog early in the morning. and then once again, we'll see probably a little more sun up towards the marin county coastline. here's our excessive heat watch where we're building on the heat day to day. tuesday, wednesday, thursday and overnight lows will be well into the 70s even 80s. so hopefully you have air conditioning fans. you have a way to deal with this
