to all the people in san francisco remembering another giants legend, orlando cepeda. >> a look back on the hall of famer's life and career. then water park reopening on pause. why a south bay attraction is pushing back. its much anticipated opening day. good morning everybody. it's saturday, june 29th. let's get right to your weekend forecast. lisa is here. and the warmth? >> yes, it's pretty nice out. it's nice and cool. we'll get into that summer, spread the microclimates in full swing this weekend and you can see the low clouds and a system offshore that will be keeping the bay area really nice today and tomorrow. so there is going to be that patchy fog today and tomorrow along the shoreline. but as we look at san jose, it is nice and clear. right now it is 57 downtown, 64 in oakland, 65 san jose going for a high in the 80s, mid to upper 80s. and look at the fog. the golden gate bridge 63, santa rosa 70 by the delta livermore at 68. so some of you a little milder from

oakland to livermore and a little cooler in concord. this morning. emeryville is looking a bit hazy, but air quality pretty good all weekend long. enjoy that. the sea breeze and the range from the 60s to the 90s, because things are going to change dramatically with an excessive heat. watch for many days next week we're talking well over 100 degrees and elevated fire danger all in my accuweather seven day forecast in a few minutes. stephanie, lisa. >> thank you. well, we are just about 24 hours out from the san francisco pride parade, and you can see our countdown at the bottom of your screen. san francisco's civic center is being transformed into an event hub for the weekend. abc7 news reporter ryan curry takes us to the 20th annual trans march >> it's right to make noise not just for trans pride, but because this event has hit a milestone. it's the 20th anniversary of the trans march in san francisco. >> as a fellow trans person, it means a lot because you can see,

you know, older trans folk, younger trans folk, and we're all gathered in one place, all under the same umbrella of unity on the friday ahead of pride weekend. >> it's all about embracing who you are. >> 11 years ago, i came here and it convinced me that i should be myself and i've been coming here ever since. >> thousands showed up at dolores park, where there was live music, dancing and trans and pride flags waving high in the air. shortly after that, crowd gathered next to the park, hoisting a giant trans flag, and began marching into the heart of the city. many say san francisco is proud to be a haven for the trans community. >> we offer a model of how you know places ought to be embracing difference and helping folks out where they need help, and lifting them up and helping them to achieve as well. march organizers say this is one of the largest trans events in the entire world. >> this is the 20th anniversary and it's so great to see so many people congregated here. just like i said, just being themselves and opening

turning to some sad news this morning from the san francisco giants as the team is preparing for a memorial for the great willie mays, another legacy giant star orlando cepeda has died. cepeda was known as the baby bull throughout the 50s and 60s for a look back at his life and legacy, here's abc seven sports director larry beil. >> orlando cepeda broke into the major leagues in 1958, the year the giants moved from new york to san francisco. that season, he took home rookie of the year honors and hit a home run in his second ever at bat. >> i don't believe in pressure, so i just try to be myself. i have the confidence that i was a good ball player, cepeda, known as the baby bull for his power at the plate and chacha for his love of life in his native puerto rico, was a seven time all star in his 17 seasons in major league baseball before retiring in 1974. >> he was a lifetime 297 hitter with 379 career home runs and

1364 runs batted in. he hit over 309 times in his career. cepeda spent his nine seasons with the giants alongside greats willie mays and willie mccovey, before being traded to saint louis in 1966, winning the comeback player of the year award that season. the following year, he won the national league most valuable player award, leading series title. cepeda was inducted into the baseball hall of fame in 1999 on a veterans committee ballot. only the second puerto rican native ever to be enshrined in the hall. >> i want to say thank you to all the people in san francisco. >> two weeks prior to his induction, the giants retired his number 30 at candlestick park. he's one of just ten players in giants history to have their jersey retired. >> right now, it's what you say. thank you that i was a baseball player. >> the baby bull is also in the puerto rico sports hall of fame and the missouri sports hall of fame. in 2004, chacha was one of the four men to receive the

major league baseball players alumni association's achievement award, their highest honor. starting in 1987. he worked for the giants as a comnity representative and ba member of the giants community fund advisory board. cepeda was also recognized nationally for his humanitarian efforts as an ambassador for baseball. cepeda is survived by his five sons, one his legacy is a permanent fixture, as one of the statues you see when you enter oracle park, one that will always be remembered. >> now, orlando cepeda's wife said he died peacefully at his home while listening to his favorite music, surrounded by loved ones and family. he was 86 years old. in the east bay, now the oakland city council is about to miss the deadline to vote on their multibillion dollar budget. friday's lengthy talks were tied up in debate over the mayor's proposal to sell the oakland coliseum. there are currently two versions of the budget. one does not include the sale of the coliseum and calls for major budget cuts. the

other version includes the coliseum sale, but there are concerns that won't be finalized in time to prevent cuts. >> one of those budget options is fiscally irresponsible. it should have never been presented. assuming that a windfall of money was going to be here with the purchase and sale agreement, supporters of the budget, including the stadium sale, say they are confident in the documented deal. >> they also say they're open to including contingency plans that would kick in months from now. a final vote on the budget is due next week. oakland police kick off a summer safety plan today with a focus on preventing violent crime. the department says its aim is proactive policing, community engagement and effective incident response. officials plan to refocus on operation cease fire, the city's crime prevention program helped reduce shootings and homicides after its introduction in 2012, but the city shifted away from the ceasefire model during the

pandemic. chp and alameda county sheriff's deputies will collaborate with opd for drunk driving enforcement operations, all summer. also in oakland, the radisson hotel is facing a lawsuit for wage theft. the city's department of workplace and employment standards previously found the hotel failed to pay 128 workers, the minimum wage. now, those payments are mandated by city law. the oakland city attorney's office is now suing to recover lost wages for those workers, many of whom are people of color and women. the lost wages exceed $400,000. now to an update from the abc7 news i-team, a convicted serial shoplifter is now out of jail on mandatory supervision. you can see here aziza graves leaving court yesterday, a jury convicted her of stealing more than $60,000 worth of items from stores like safeway and target. the judge agreed to the prosecution's request of a two and a half year

fireworks are illegal because of fire risk. >> fortunate that every year we run over 50 vegetation fires from these fireworks on 4th of july last year, two structure fires resulted from those. >> california has already seen an explosive start to fire season, and the contra costa fire protection district is bracing for the worst. >> and what's coming our way next week is a heat wave locally within contra costa, we're anticipating a 105 degree temperatures in antioch on wednesday, and this is setting the stage for very dangerous holiday weekend. >> fireworks stands will stay open until noon on july 5th in dublin. lena howland abc seven news. >> today in san francisco, a 4th of july parade with an early twist. it's happening along san francisco's great highway and all the floats will be powered by people pedaling. and you can see some of those floats getting all fancy with decor. the friends of the great highway are partnering with the san francisco rec and parks

breeze. so we're going to see quickly warming temperatures, high fire danger and the risk of heat related illnesses increasing as we get closer to the 4th of july holiday. here's a look at live doppler seven and the system offshore, allowing for that nice marine layer to keep us cool. and we are going to see some sun from half moon bay to pacifica. you see the fog now, but it will evaporate for the time being. it will be in the 60s. it will be breezy, but we will see a return to this later on tonight into sunday. the pride celebrations will be really comfortable with numbers well into the 70s and a little fog at the coast, mount tam, it is in the 60s right now with 43% relative humidity, 57 san francisco 64, oakland, hayward 65. in san jose and a cool 54 half moon bay with some low 60s on the way and partial sun throughout. a couple of hours in the afternoon. 70 by the delta 61 petaluma. you are 48 this morning. so cool. overnight temperatures, perfect sleeping weather, but as the afternoons

get hotter and hotter, the overnights will get more uncomfortable. so for the weekend, the headline mild at the coast, warm inland so that nice 30 degree spread for the pride parade. temperatures in the 70s, that nice sea breeze at the coast, sunny skies and then for the week ahead, we're looking at warm to hot conditions. we will have that range, but even the coast will be in the 70s. and unless you're at the immediate coast, it's going to be hot where you live. so as for the temperatures at the coast, you're going to get into the 60s with some sun here, a little warmer up towards stinson. so we'll call it partly sunny because the fog comes back quickly and we'll look for the sunshine throughout the entire day here in san francisco. low 60s tomorrow morning, upper 60s by noontime, in the 70s by the afternoon. so really beautiful day for your sunday. but then we get to the heat alerts and this is the heat advisory for really the entire bay area, except if you're at the coast 11:00 on

plan for borrowers based on income and household size. the education department has not said when the pause will take effect. also new this morning, some much needed gaza aid is backed up due to a dispute over security concerns. united nations officials have requested aid workers wear protective gear when going into the strip, but israeli defense forces have opposed that request and fear the gear will get into hamas's hands. the un responded, threatening to suspend aid operations in gaza until their needs are met. meanwhile, the u.s. military built pier has been pulled from the gaza shore because of rough seas. turning now to the supreme court, clearing the way for cities to enforce bans on unhoused people sleeping outdoors. and that includes pier areas right here in the bay area, where shelter space is limited. the high court ruled in favor of grants pass, oregon, and its ban on sleeping in public. those who violate the ban will face fines and possibly

jail time. san jose mayor matt mahan says the decision provides clarity on the issue, but he says it does not change his city's overall strategy for dealing with homelessness. >> it doesn't change our immediate need to get over 1000 people out of our waterways to comply with the clean water act. it doesn't change our need to rapidly expand shelter capacity and treatment beds for our most vulnerable neighbors. it doesn't change the moral obligation we have to create safe, managed places for shelter. >> the court decided that finding unhoused people does not necessarily equate to cruel and unusual punishment, but mahan says it's not cruel to get people out of unsafe, unmanaged conditions on the streets. now to another supreme court ruling. this one overturned a 40 year old case known as the chevron decision. the change weakens the power of federal regulators. in the 1984 case, san ramon based chevron lost a lawsuit against the natural resources defense

council. the ruling determines lower courts should defer to federal agencies when laws passed by congress are not clear. now, yesterday's decision reverses that. the nrdc says it puts too much authority in the hands of lower court judges. >> well, this is a terrible decision. it shows again that the current court majority is on a rampage. you may now have random judges from, say, amarillo, texas, deciding all kinds of national questions from assuring the safety of heart medicines uh- to determining clean air standards, or what it takes to keep doors from blowing off of airplanes, you name it, the biden administration has said throwing out the chevron decision could destabilize the federal government and the nation's legal system. >> new developments in the alleged fraud scheme involving the adhd drug adhd drug

have seen an increase overall reported hate crimes decreased by 7.1% last year from 2022. anti-black bias remained the most prevalent, despite a 20.6% drop. anti-asian hate crimes decreased by nearly 11, but anti-jewish bias crimes increased by nearly 53. it went up by 60% against the muslim community and hate crimes against the lgbtq plus community increased by more than 84. an important reminder of resilience during pride month, as we honor the 54th anniversary of the stonewall uprising in san francisco, which marked a new beginning for the gay rights movement here in the u.s. and around the world. speaking of, we are counting down to tomorrow's pride parade here in san francisco. as you can see from the bottom of your screen. here at abc7, we celebrate pride every day, and this morning we want to highlight one of the

forever giant orlando cepeda has died. here's abc seven sports director larry beil. >> good morning everybody. the giants opened a series with the dodgers last night. sadly, in the middle of the game, we learned of the passing of the baby bull orlando cepeda, an 11 time all star. cepeda was the mvp in 1967. teammate of fellow hall of famer willie mays, who passed away less than two weeks ago. another forever giant gone. cepeda spent nine years with the giants, and while we acknowledge the past, the games do go on. giants on. giants were down two nothing in the fifth. luis matos out of here. his second homer in three games, his fourth of the year. so it's a21 game. still two one in the sixth. man on for matt chapman. chappie down the line and gone for his 10th of the year. he's the second giant to reach double figures in home runs three two giants lead. dodgers tied it up in the ninth after an error by elliott ramos. but bottom line brett wisely walks it off for the baby. bull

a two run shot and the giants win for cha-cha, five three. the a's in arizona. kids are in the right field pool and they do not care about that game at all. he's up in the ninth. they get homer happy. first it's brant rooker connecting his 15th of the year makes it a74 game. next man up is shea langeliers bengalis. back to back. his 15th of the year as well. so it's an eight four lead. and then a couple batters later daz cameron says, hey, i want to get in on this. the a's, with three homers in the ninth, four in the last two innings to win nine four, snapping an 11 game road, losing streak. the nhl draft was last night at the sphere in las vegas. for the very first time in their history, the san jose sharks had the first overall pick, and they took a guy who played for the sharks junior team, macklin, celebrating. his father, rick is the director of sports medicine and performance for the warriors. the pick, announced by sharks legend joe thornton with the first overall selection in the 2024 nhl draft,

and then dropping into the mid 60s by the ninth inning. so really nice day. nice evening. and the system offshore is allowing for that marine layer to stay close enough to the coast that we feel the sea breeze. we actually had some dense fog early this morning. and a look right now shows that it's really around the san mateo coast down to santa cruz, and it will thin out throughout the afternoon for a sunny day around half moon bay, but still cool. there's a look from our east bay hills camera and temperatures here. very summerlike in the 90s. later on today, 57 downtown at 64, in oakland, 65 in san jose, just 55 half moon bay and a little bit of a breeze from our roof camera. upper 60s concord livermore, low 60s, petaluma and napa 70 by the delta. and you see the fog here where it's going to begin to pull back a little bit. but certainly cool. in the 60s at the shoreline. so that's mild to kind of cool at the coast, warm inland and then fantastic for

sunday for the parade. and looking at dangerous heat next week as temperatures will be anywhere from 10 to 15 degrees above average. so the national weather service has an excessive heat watch already for all locations except at the media coast from 11:00 on tuesday until friday. looks like we'll drop off a few degrees for the fourth, but then into friday and the weekend we could get back into triple digit heat. so this is why you're going to really have to stay tuned to the forecast. it looks like an extensive time where we're going to see the heat hang around for quite a while. 87 in san jose today. milpitas warming to 82 on the coast here we've got mid 60s in pacifica, upper 70s, palo alto and mountain view with mid 80s, a lot like yesterday in redwood city, 70 downtown. nice day today with sunshine, warm conditions up through wine country with mid 80s in petaluma but some low 90s in sonoma on the bay shore here we'll see

temperatures from about 80 in newark heading a bit inland. but 78 in hayward with 84 in castro valley. so a mixture of those upper 70s to low 80s. and you head inland, we've got the low 90s. so really a beautiful afternoon, warm as you would expect for late june. but the accuweather seven day forecast really shows how hot it's going to be. so check it out as we get into your sunday. that sea breeze is with us. low 60s at the coast, 80 around the bay, mid 90s inland, but then into july. look how quickly the heat builds inland. we've got upper 80s to 90 around the bay and seconds at the coast. so we're talking a lot of heat for a prolonged period of time. and this means some really warm nights as well. stephanie. >> all right. lisa thank you. a reminder that you can watch all our newscasts live and on demand through the abc seven bay area connected tv app. it's available for apple tv, google tv, amazon fire tv, and roku. you can download the app now and

live at the pier right now, thanks to photographer david chamberlain, structural engineers determined this pier suffered damage last december from high tides and during ongoing construction, access will be limited to a portion of the pier's main deck. areas of the piles and handrails will need to be prepared as well, as some funding is still needed for the project, and there's no word on a reopening date. we're also learning about some new restrictions that could be coming to limit crowds at big sur's most popular spots, the u.s. forest service is considering requiring reservations now at pfeiffer beach. it's one idea in a bigger plan. the forest service also suggested running a shuttle that stops at the iconic bixby bridge, as well as other spots.

it's meant to cut down on traffic. officials are also considering creating more designated campsites to try and limit dispersed camping. happening today 40 niners running back christian mccaffrey is tying the knot. he may not have gotten that super bowl ring, but he'll get another ring today after marrying his fiance, olivia culpo. their wedding is set to take place in rhode island, where culpo grew up, and the two have been together since 2019. congratulations to the mccaffrey's cute couple. >> yeah, we have a beautiful weekend ahead with a sea breeze and something for everyone. but as we get into next week, this is a look at concord, where temperatures will be approaching 100 on monday and then look how hot it gets all week long. so try to prepare for that. that's next week. this weekend we have that typical summer spread with 60s along the coast, upper 70s around the bay shore, low to mid 90s inland, so near perfect. and the parade weather in the 70s.
