revives a 4th of july tradition tonight on abc seven news, always live abc seven news starts right now. san francisco is rolling out the rainbow carpet for what organizers say is one of the biggest lgbtq plus celebrations. pride weekend is kicking off in a big way today, culminating in tomorrow's pride parade down market street. you can see our countdown to the parade at the bottom of your screen. thank you for joining us. i'm j.r. stunned. hundreds of thousands of people are expected in san francisco this weekend for pride celebrations. the party is packed at civic center for the kickoff to the pride festival running today and tomorrow. abc seven news reporter cornell bernard talked to people celebrating and got tips from organizers about how to have a safe time >> drag performers are keeping it real by bringing the oh so

fabulous vibes to this year's pride festival. civic center was turned into a beacon of love, the theme of this year's pride. hi, i'm austin and i am from norcal austin, we're from red bluff, brought his biggest ally to pride, his mom, kristy. so what does pride mean to you guys? first of all, you. >> it's a celebration of like, being who you are and who you want to be. and like, just accepting everything and like, getting everybody to be so open and honest. >> you love who you love. that's all you need. >> this gathering also brought some tasty food because calories don't count at pride, right? >> this is the fish and chips. and my cousin wanted the carne asada fries with no pico de gallo. >> you can tell people are happy there's already thousands of people in here. >> pride organizers say 400,000 people are expected to party here. this weekend, and well over a million may come out for sunday's pride parade down market street, one of the biggest lgbtq gatherings in the world.

>> i feel under under under the gun. under the gun. that's it. but no pressure. no pressure. okay, well, here's a look at what's coming our way tomorrow jr it's going to be probably about as nice a day as you could ask for the pride parade. 10:00 in the morning here in san francisco. mainly sunny, a few areas of lingering fog. about 63 degrees between noon and 2 p.m. we'll see temperatures climbing up to about 70 degrees under sunny skies going into the late afternoon. 4 p.m. breezy, but still mild. 72 degrees the likely high temperature here in san francisco tomorrow. and as we look at the area overall, you can see sunny skies from coast to inland tomorrow and high temperatures inland. low 90s around the bay shoreline upper 70s to about 80. and here in the city, of course, gloriously wonderful weather. now only a bit of caution here is that we have a heat wave coming. our way next week. so enjoy the weekend weather because starting on monday, we're going to have to be concerned about exposure to excessive heat. i'll give you more details on that a little bit later. >> yes. live in the moment. yeah, absolutely. thank you so

much, spencer. developing news now in a case that lit up phones and road signs across the bay area this morning, the chp says the newborn baby at the center of an amber alert is safe. investigators said the child's mother took off with her 14 day old baby boy, and they were worried for his safety. tonight, vallejo police tell us everyone is safe and okay happening tonight. the oakland police department is putting more officers on the streets focused on preventing violent crime. the department is reviving operation ceasefire, a crime prevention program that started in 2012 and was praised for helping cut down on shootings. but the city shifted away from that approach during the pandemic. the extra police presence comes as the city considers big changes to police staffing. a report from oakland's director of finance says the city could drop more than 100 positions, depending on the budget plan that they approve. the oakland police officers association told us in a statement, quote, the proposed

budget will drive the oakland police department to historic lows in staffing levels at a time when community members and business owners are already suffering. the city council is expected to vote on the budget on tuesday. new developments tonight in the push to fill the health care gap left by a shuttered er, san mateo county supervisors approved a grant to provide urgent care service for people south of pacifica in april. seton medical center coastside in moss beach shut down for repairs. storms last year damaged the building. the renovation is not expected to be completed until december. the new grant sets up six months of emergency medical care through dignity health. plenty of people hitting the beach heading up to tahoe or starting an extended 4th of july vacation. the tsa had its fourth busiest day ever yesterday. abc news reporter

michelle franzen shows us your best times to hit the road. >> millions of americans are taking to the skies and hitting the roads for the 4th of july holiday, a record breaking number of people packing airports nationwide. the tsa says it expects to screen 32 million passengers between thursday, june 27th and monday, july 8th. the agency believes it will set a new record, screening 3 million travelers in one day before all the july 4th travel comes to an end. american airlines predicts its busiest july 4th ever, up 8% from last year. delta says it expects nearly 6 million customers through next week, an increase of 6% from 2023. the tsa and airlines, all offering the same advice, get to the airport early to allow plenty of time to get through security. roads are also expected to be crowded, according to triple a, more than 60 million americans are

with their mom. so quite the twist. we care about building a better bay area here on abc seven, and tonight one city could turn to hollywood for help. oakland is considering more than half $1 million of incentives to get movies made here. the city could give tax breaks to filmmakers who agree to shoot in oakland. the plan also calls for visit oakland to create a database of film locations in the city. if the city council approves the plan, would only happen if the city has money available, which may be tough given oakland's budget crisis. santa cruz is cracking down on bad behavior this holiday weekend. the city will be tripling fines for illegal fireworks, graffiti, noise violations and alcohol related citations. people caught may have to pay an extra $1,000 per offense. san francisco is way ahead of the game, with july 4th celebrations. why the city's new 4th of july tradition is

the bar called mother just made it on bon appetit's list of best new bars in the u.s. it's not far from dolores park in the mission. the new spot is a lesbian bar, one of fewer than 50 left in the united states. bon appetit says the bar quote revives a precious piece of community. the bar is open. all of pride weekend until 2 a.m. with no cover fee

there are revived san francisco tradition. people in the sunset district marched down the great highway for the inaugural oceanside 4th of july parade. it's been decades since the city had a 4th of july parade. today's two bands, 25 dancers, as well as several parents and kids took part. supervisor joel engardio organized the event because he says it is time the city had its own 4th of july parade, an event like this tells the world we are not a doom loop. >> it tells the world that we have a lot of joy and we're creating more of it. and we are imaginative or innovative, and we're going to create our best. san francisco. >> organizers had the parade today to make sure people who already made holiday plans could attend. the supervisor says the plan is to have this 1 or 1 next year on july 4th. spencer christian here. boy they had beautiful weather. i was a little surprised i was like,

wow, so early. >> yes, lots of outdoor activity all around the bay area today though, because it's such a wonderful day to be outside. >> it certainly is. and no fog there either. >> that's right, a noticeable absence of fog near the coast today, except in a few little patches here and there. let's take a look at what's going on though, and why that fog is being blown away. you can see on the satellite radar composite image that brisk onshore flow, there are little patches here and there, but basically we've got a bright sunny day right now. and talking about brisk breezes, 25 mile per hour surface winds here in san francisco right now in 18 to 20 mile per hour winds in many other locations as well. and it's generally a few degrees cooler, especially in our inland areas away from the coast and bay. then at this time yesterday. so let's take a closer look from sutro tower. looking out over san francisco. this is the view 65 degrees here in san francisco. mid to upper 70s at oakland and hayward, low 80s at san jose and redwood city and 59 at half moon bay. there's a little fog at the golden gate of the temperature readings right now up north, santa rosa, 80 degrees 75, in petaluma. napa

7390 apiece at fairfield and concord, 86 at livermore. and from mount tam, looking down onto the bay, you can see just a few little patches or fingers of fog pushing out through the uh- over the bay. i should say, through the golden gate. these are our forecast headlines. pride parade. tomorrow it will be sunny and mild here in san francisco. heat wave is coming next week and throughout most of the week. in fact, we'll have an excessive heat watch in effect with triple digit temperatures in our inland areas. of course, that brings with it health risks and fire danger concerns. so let's take a close look at this heat advisory here this morning. the heat advisories and excessive heat watch for all of the bay area in these darker areas. and it's an excessive heat warning for solano county. so that includes everything except the immediate coastline. that's in effect from tuesday morning to friday evening. and during this time we'll see numerous locations with temperatures at or above 100 degrees. it's important to stay hydrated and not expose yourself too long to that kind of heat. if you're outdoors, seek shade

or air conditioning. when possible. so overnight, we'll see a few high clouds pushing by. maybe a little bit of patchy fog at the coast, but that's about it. so wake up tomorrow morning to mainly sunny skies overnight. low temperatures, mainly in the upper 50s. highs tomorrow, generally about 60 at the coast, upper 70s to around 80 near the bay and mid 90s inland. and here comes the heat next week. look at this every single day next week, including 4th of july, we can expect high temperatures at or above 100 degrees in the warmest inland spots. it looks like tuesday and wednesday are going to be the hottest days, with high temperatures approaching 110 degrees in the hottest spots on tuesday and wednesday. we're not talking about just 1 or 2 locations, but it's going to be pretty widespread inland. wow. >> hot temps. and then you have those winds that we've had. >> that's not a good mix, not a good mix. and it raises fire concerns of course. and we'll be watching all of that very closely next week. >> thank you so much spencer. >> all right j.r. giants fans are once again heading out to oracle park to pay their respects to a forever giant,

orlando cepeda. >> today, many stopped to place flowers on his statue at second and king, or to reflect on the legacy of the hall of famer affectionately known as the baby bull cepeda passed away yesterday at the age of 86. he debuted with the giants in 1958, their first in san francisco. >> my dad passed on the seventh and then willie mays passed four days later, and then orlando passed. so, i'm feeling all the emotions right now, like i said, the giants are a huge part of my family growing up and orlando and willie are just like, i mean, the icons for me and my dad and so many others out there. >> on monday, a public celebration of life will be held at oracle park for willie mays. it starts at 4 p.m. gates open at willie mays plaza at 3 p.m. and speaking of giants and other big time sporting events, chris alvarez joins us. >> aj, aria, it's been a tough week. a month for the giants. but on the field they're playing
