dangerous conditions are said to be on the way for parts of the bay area this week, looking live from our mount tam cam. with the heat wave about to move in. good evening, i'm j.r. stone. as temperatures soar wildfire risk does too. and tonight we're tracking new warnings plus the possibility of a power shut off. let's get straight to abc seven news weather anchor spencer christian leading off our team coverage of the fire risk. and that dangerous heat j.r. it is indeed dangerous. >> heat of course is raising health concerns. it elevating fire concerns as well. so we'll start with the excessive heat warning which covers the entire bay area that will be in effect from 11 a.m. tuesday to 11 p.m. friday. and the area in the shaded in the orange there around the bay shoreline and down in santa cruz area. that represents an excessive heat advisory. but the heat warnings in effect essentially for the entire bay area. and that means an increased risk of heat related illnesses, especially if you are spending extended periods of time outdoors in this

kind of heat. now, let me show you what some of our projected high temperatures are for the next few days. obviously, we'll have a few areas hitting 100 degrees or more tomorrow, but by tuesday we'll be looking at numerous locations in our inland areas that will top out at about 105 to 112 degrees. in terms of their afternoon highs. same thing on wednesday, 105 to about 112 degrees in the hottest inland areas. that includes the north bay, the east bay and the south bay. even on thursday, we won't see that much of a drop off in temperatures. so let's talk about health concerns. this heat wave risk, this heat wave week means high health risks. so please drink plenty of fluids, wear lightweight clothing, take breaks. if you're going to be outside, seek shade. seek air conditioning if possible, and know the signs of heat related illness and never leave people, pets or in cars. now we're talking about fire season and the fire prevention tips. avoid activities with open flames properly discard of burning objects like cigarettes, for example. keep vehicles off dry

grass. and if you do see fire starting, call 911. and i hate to give away my complete accuweather seven day forecast at the top of the broadcast, but i need to show you that all the way through next saturday, we are expecting triple digit high temperatures. well into the triple digits in all of our inland areas. i'll have more on this just a little bit later j.r. >> spencer, thank you so much. we look forward to that. p-g-and-e's says power shutoffs are likely in some bay area communities this week because of that fire danger, with the winds being the big wild card. abc seven news reporter anser hassan talked to firefighters about the dangerous combo of bad weather and the 4th of july holiday. >> fire crews were quick to put out a small fire that was burning near homes in lafayette. no injuries and no damage reported, but firefighters note fire danger is high this week. >> typically, we see a lot of foggy mornings in may and the no sky july, you know, the june gloom. and we really haven't

seen a lot of those, fog year, heavier, moisture week mornings, what we are seeing right now is just a lot of really dry back to back weeks. >> paul lowenthal is a division chief with the santa rosa fire department. he says it's already been a busy past few weeks. the point fire in sonoma county broke out two weeks ago. burned more than 1200 acres and prompted evacuations. a wildfire near brentwood burned more than 250 acres. this past week, cal fire tweeting it is already been one of the busiest starts to a fire year in the cal fire sonoma lake napa unit, with over 20,000 acres already burned. that's more acres burned than the unit saw over the entire three previous years combined. >> really, with what we're seeing with just the excessive growth of seasonal grasses, the dry conditions, the winds, the low humidities, really are a lot of concerns as we head into this holiday week. >> p-g-and-e's warning that these conditions could prompt public safety power shut offs, mostly for small areas in solano and napa counties.

thousands to the streets, pride this year is about more than the party. it's a celebration of defiance in the attacks on trans rights in other states. our lgbtq community is a source of pride to us, but our friends community is our mission right now to protect. that's former house speaker nancy pelosi speaking at today's pride fest at civic center plaza. she was introducing actor and singer billy porter, who was both a grand marshal of the parade and a performer. today of course, the centerpiece of san francisco's pride celebrations is the legendary parade. thousands came out to watch the 54th annual san francisco pride parade. abc seven news reporter cornell bernard takes us to the party. >> the city that celebrates pride 365 days a year. the last sunday in june, is extra special

different unlocked cars in the larch neighborhood between 6 and 6:30 a.m. they say some of those cars had garage remote controls inside, which allowed the suspects to enter garages and homes. officers located the thieves entering a home on larch avenue, but they were unable to escape. in a they were able to escape in a stolen lexus after police called off a high speed chase. new at 11 customers of a dublin based bank cannot access their banking apps after a cyber security incident. several viewers have reached out to us about this tonight, patelco credit union says it's working to restore service from yesterday's problem. they sent us a statement that says, in part, we proactively shut down some of our day to day banking systems so that we can remediate, remediate the issue and contain the impact. the credit union says that includes online banking, its mobile app and its call center. the numbers

which means a slate of new laws are kicking in for california. tonight, we want to walk you through some of the biggest ones impacting daily life. first, the

ban on a big impact on your bills. a new law stops businesses from tacking on surprise fees at checkout. it requires more transparency about fees on purchases like concert tickets, hotel rooms or food delivery. restaurants will be exempt from this under a new law signed by the governor yesterday, but they still have to clearly advertise extra fees. the state will also start enforcing a cap on security deposits. landlords can only ask renters to put down one month's rent for a deposit. new safety training will be required for high school athletics coaches. they'll soon have to be trained on recognizing and responding to cardiac arrest, plus get certification in using defibrillators like the one that helped save buffalo bills player demar hamlin. finally, a new addition for bars and nightclubs across the state. they'll be required to stock drug testing kits to help customers make sure their drinks are safe. >> i feel like it is necessary

for bars to have it because of those suspicions, and if hopefully no one ever does get drugged with drinks. but if they do and they don't know what the feeling is and they are confused at least they know they can find out what's going on. >> it's up to bar and nightclub owners to decide whether to charge people for the test strips. we have a full roundup of the new laws kicking in tomorrow. just head to abc seven news.com. now to the race to the white house and the fallout from the first 2024 presidential debate. former house speaker nancy pelosi is weighing in, expressing support for president biden. the new york times reports that president biden's family members asked him to stay in the race during a gathering at camp david this weekend. this morning on cnn's state of the union, nancy pelosi tried to turn the attention to former president trump and the lies he told during the debate. she also spoke on biden's integrity. >> we see joe biden up close. we know how attuned he arts to the issues, how informed he is. i debate with him about

legislation and not debate, but discuss it with him. he's right there. so in any case, it was a bad night. let's not sugarcoat that. >> pelosi also said that if the democratic party chooses another nominee at this stage, it could be chaotic. turning to our abc seven news advancer at 11, where we help you get ahead of the big news in the days to come. first, the supreme court saving its most important ruling of the term for last. the justices will decide tomorrow whether former president donald trump can be prosecuted for his efforts to stay in office. trump is claiming presidential immunity protects him from prosecution on charges he tried to overturn the 2020 election. his conspiracy trial is on hold until this decision is made. our other advancer is a pivotal vote in oakland's budget crisis. the city council is set to vote tuesday on its budget. the city has had two versions of the

budget one, if the city can finalize the sale of the coliseum in time and another option if the sale can't happen fast enough. that second version calls for major cuts. supporters of the plan that includes the stadium sale say they're confident in the documented deal and are open to including contingency plans that would kick in months from now. for others on, the city council are calling that plan fiscally irresponsible. if you've been thinking to yourself the commutes in san francisco feel longer and longer, you'd be right. the latest data from infraworks tells us congestion is trending worse each year. peak time drivers in the city lost 45 hours to traffic in 2023, which is five hours higher than the year before. san francisco scored 13th worst in the u.s. for traffic delays. the bright side of all of this sf traffic is still 6% lower than 2019 pre-covid levels. joining

us right now is spencer christian here with weather. i think both of us have a lot to say about that. but the traffic today exactly. >> well, of course we had a wonderful parade, a wonderful weather, but it took me three hours to get into work today. well, next time on the next parade next year, you will plan better, right? you're right. i'll stay overnight in the city. >> well, hopefully people can plan for this heat. oh my gosh. >> yeah, well, this is going to be dangerously excessive heat that's coming our way this week for an extended period of time. we're not you know, we're accustomed to 2 or 3 days of heat spikes. but this is a week long heat wave. so be prepared. here's a look at what's coming our way. we'll start with the satellite radar composite image. you can see a little bit of an onshore flow. the notice the absence of clouds, low clouds and fog. there and this is a look at our air quality. and you know what i'm going to skip through this because somehow the wrong sequence has popped in here. so if you bear with me i'll put us at the spot we need to be. and this is it, right here. so there you go. there's our onshore flow. and as i said, it's not a very strong one. so

it's not providing the kind of cooling influence that we often associate with our onshore flow. nonetheless, slight breezes out along the coastline and around the bay. right now. here's a look at our current temperature readings 56 here in the city, 60 degrees in oakland and hayward, mid 60s at san jose and redwood city, 54 at half moon bay. nice view from mount tam looking down onto the city and onto the bay. 63 degrees in santa rosa right now. petaluma 55. we have mid 60s at napa and fairfield and livermore. concord 70 degrees. and on we go to the view from emeryville. and these are our forecast headlines. heat wave this week we're talking about an excessive heat warning that will be in effect from tuesday morning to friday night. we'll be looking at triple digit temperatures in our inland areas tuesday through saturday. so about six days worth of this intense inland heat and the heat will persist. as i said, six days with possibly a break coming our way next sunday. here is our excessive heat warning for the entire bay area. basically the areas covered in red here, the areas in orange

around the bay shoreline and down along santa cruz there represent where we have a heat advisory. under these conditions , there's an elevated chance of heat related illnesses, especially for people who work outdoors or who are engaging in strenuous outdoor activity, which, by the way, is not advised under conditions like this. so for tonight, mainly clear skies, low temperatures, mainly in the upper 50s to about 60 degrees. that's a pretty mild range of overnight temperatures. and then tomorrow the heat begins to build. so there will be numerous locations inland tomorrow with high temperatures around 99 100 degrees. we don't see a lot of hunters popping up here, but trust me, places like concord, fairfield, santa rosa, lakeport are likely to hit 99. in locations near them are around the bay shoreline tomorrow. we're talking about highs in the mid 80s and low 60s on the coast and here's the accuweather seven day forecast and follow along with this. the heat wave begins tomorrow, just as the month of july begins. then on tuesday and wednesday, we're looking at the days where

we'll have our most intense heat. we're going to have intense heat week all week long, but the highest temperature readings are likely tuesday and wednesday, with highs between 110 and 112 degrees in the warmest inland areas, mid 90s around the bay shoreline. we're talking about places like redwood city and san mateo across the bay over in hayward on the coast. well, it'll be nice there with highs in the low to mid 70s. then as we get later into the week, the heat is still going to be oppressive. it's not going to feel like it's cooling off at all, but instead of 110 and 112, we will be looking at highs of 104 to 106. and that includes thursday by the way, which is 4th of july. finally, we get to next weekend, although the heat will be tapering off just a little bit, it really won't feel like we're getting any relief until those those afternoon highs start to drop into the low 90s. >> you know, it's hot when 104 is the relief. >> yeah, exactly. that's true. >> thank you so much spencer j.r. a gymnastic legend. back for more on the world's biggest stage, how simone biles is set up to make history

seems to be coming to a close. by all accounts, it's looking like four time champion klay thompson will leave the warriors as he looks to test the waters of nba free agency. so what city might captain klay be setting sail for? espn reports he's planning to have discussion with the mavericks, lakers, clippers and 76 ers with multiple sources saying he's open to a sign and trade deal espn cap insider bobby marks says klay's potential salary could range from anywhere between 12.8 million to 16.1 million per year. looks like dallas could offer the most money per season as of now, while the lakers they hold some sentimental value for klay. his dad, of course, played and won a championship for the team. he's currently a broadcaster down there. meanwhile, lebron james reportedly making calls to try and bring klay to la. stay tuned. the warriors have waived future hall of famer chris paul and espn reports paul has agreed to a one year, $11 million deal with the san antonio spurs. the dubs had pushed the deadline of his $30 million guaranteed salary to try and make a trade,

worse. legal fireworks can be entertaining, but they can also impact the health of some people. plus, make your pets anxious. so how do we build a better bay area and get dangerous illegal fireworks off the streets? abc seven news reporter lyanne melendez looked into san francisco's civil grand jury recommendations for those answers. >> what once was a crowd pleasing event on the 4th of july has turned into several unsettling nights of booming explosions. take san francisco's mission district. so tell me how bad the situation is here in the mission. oh, to me, it's like a war zone. >> they have these ones that shoot up about 20 or 30 of them. one of them got about three feet from my face. people out here until two, 3:00 in the morning, according to the findings of a san francisco civil grand jury report. >> in the past six years, the number of 9-1-1 dispatched, fireworks calls have continued to increase dramatically. in

june and july, the bay view, the mission and the tenderloin districts have had a significant number of calls to the 911 call center. also in the past six years, segovia added. there is little police enforcement. >> they just drive by. they stop and the people clear back, and as soon as they go by, they start all over again. >> police seem to take a soft approach when cracking down on the sale of illegal fireworks. here's what they told us when we asked to ride along with officers during a raid. at this time, we are not scheduling this due to staffing limitations. the grand jury report also highlights the effects these illegal fireworks have on members of the community. people living with alzheimer's. >> they might not recognize it as a firework that they know from their childhood, but they may think that it could be something like gunshots or other sort of noise that could be very upsetting to them. >> it can also be a struggle for some veterans, because fireworks

often mimic many of the sounds of war. >> the weeks leading up to and the weeks after. it's a nail biting time. i have some friends that 4th of july is hard for them. they have some combat experience and it brings up bad memories. >> my name is bruce engel and this is my dog jack russell terrier, betty sue. >> pets like betty sue are also affected. >> completely terrified when they get really bad. she. i have to drug her and she even when she's so sedated that she can't even stand up and walk. she's still shaking. she's hyperventilating. you know, it breaks my heart every time i see her like that. >> then there are the physical impacts of illegal fireworks. the number of emergency room visits goes up when the fireworks come out. earlier this year, a teenager was killed after being hit in the head by an illegal firework on treasure island during the new year's celebration in a dense urban area like san francisco, a fire can quickly spread from building

to building. during the weeks leading to the 4th of july, the fire department works with homeowners to clear their properties of high grasses. this reduces the possibility of fires starting from a stray firework. the fire also brings out special equipment. on the night of july 4th, we put these mini pumpers out in different areas and they're out and about. >> they're actually kind of looking for fires. >> we met up with a crew at mclaren park to give us a tutorial on how to handle a brush fire, or assist in small neighborhood fires. all right, we're ready to go. >> it's going to be smoky. it's going to be hot. we don't know what we're going to be dealing with. >> here we go. open it all the way. >> open this part all the way. okay >> and there we were learning the basics of what it takes to quickly put out a fire in unpredictable areas. while the technology has improved, the message is the same. >> no fireworks are allowed here in san francisco whatsoever. not

even sparklers. stay away from them. enjoy them from afar. >> despite all the reasons to not shoot off fireworks, people continue to break the law. the grand jury recommended that san francisco create a working group led by the department of emergency management, to assist police in finding ways to prevent the use of illegal fireworks. other city departments are also required to weigh in, but don't expect much to be different this year. the working group should be in place by october 1st in san francisco. leon melendez abc seven news. >> there is a $1,000 fine for having illegal fireworks in the city or setting them off. we do have a guide to legal fireworks shows across the bay area coming up this week. you can find our list of big shows on abc7 news.com. hurricane beryl churned up to a category four storm today, headed towards barbados. it's building momentum, becoming the earliest category four hurricane in the atlantic ocean. the hurricane's

eye is forecast to hit barbados by morning. preparations are underway in trinidad and tobago. winds are expected to come in at 130mph, with up to six inches of rain and up to nine feet of storm surge. attorneys for families of people killed in boeing. 737 max crashes say a plea deal is on the table and they're not happy with it. the attorneys say families were briefed today on the government's offer. boeing is charged with conspiracy to defraud the us, accused of misleading the faa during evaluations of the 737 max, nearly 350 people died in two crashes involving the planes in 2018 and 2019. attorneys for victims families say the plea deal isn't enough accountability. they want the doj to take the company to trial and to impose fines in upwards of $20 billion. a cyber attack

berkeley today. >> the doggy pride parade goes around the block, and then we're going to be going inside the seal space over here for a doggy costume contest. and then a drag show. uh. there's also, our trainers are going to be teaching some tricks to dogs, and then we have a lot of vendors music. it's just going to be a really great afternoon. >> there were plenty of treats for people and their four legged friends. it's also an adoption event, showing off all the adorable pups looking for homes. adoption fees were waived and proceeds went to the local shelter, berkeley humane boy. what a what a fun time for everyone involved. >> if they were holding that event this week coming up, those would be hot dogs. yes, spencer christian here. >> that looks like a fun time. but what we're going to deal with this week a concerning time. >> yeah, yeah, not not fun at all. we've got a serious heat wave coming our way, and an excessive heat warning will go into effect tuesday morning. and it will be in effect until friday night for virtually all of the bay area. under these

conditions of course, there's an increased risk of heat related illness from even minimal exposure to the heat outside highs tomorrow will reach into the upper 90s to about 100 in the hottest spots. but look at the accuweather seven day forecast. look at tuesday and wednesday. inland highs in the warmest locations 110 to 112 degrees. we rarely see that kind of heat around the bay area. and then even on thursday, friday and saturday, we're talking about 104 to 106. so this is truly some potentially dangerous heat coming our way for the week ahead. just exercise caution, stay hydrated, seek shade or air conditioning when you can. >> i can see a lot of people coming in on the fourth for fireworks here in the city. >> exactly. yeah. be careful. >> thank you so much. >> now to high jr coming up in sports. we're just ten weeks from the start of a new nfl season. is ba staying in the bay for niners wideout brandon aiyuk describes his off season negotiations as he looks for a contract extension.

the first full sunday of the nfl regular season. ten has been a good number for the 40 niners of late. in four of the last five seasons, the 40 niners have won ten plus games, making two super bowl appearances and a total of four nfc championship games during that span will number 11. brandon aiyuk being a 40 niners uniform on monday, september 9th for the regular season opener at levi's against the jets. you'll see it on abc seven. aiyuk is entering the final season of his rookie deal, missed all of the off season workouts as he tries to iron out a new contract extension. early this week, bay spoke on the pivot podcast with ryan clark, who asked aiyuk to make a prediction about where he sees himself over the next few months. >> if you had to guess, we're going to say guess right now what uniform is brandon aiyuk wearing in 2024? >> if i were to take a guess,

probably probably a niners uniform. there was times where we were super close, where i felt like i was telling people like, tell my agent, let me get my suit ready. i'm ready. i'm gonna get it back to the bay. i gotta get get right to sign his contract. there's days and times like in the past month or so, where you could say, yeah, we're pretty far apart. so training camp is at the end of july. >> now, after a great rookie seasons, brandon podemski and trace jackson davis have been invited to practice against the u.s. olympic team, which features stephon curry and steve kerr. both will also play in some summer league games for the warriors. speaking of tj d, i recently hit the sticks and challenged him to a game of nba two. k why did you pick the lakers? >> i love kobe, there's klay. >> oh we got headband klay that's bad that's bad. >> we got to lock in. >> let's talk a little bit about your rookie season. well just distract you a little bit. how many times have you watched your dunk against wemby trace jackson davis. >> oh he put the entire country

of france in the basket a few times okay i mean it's not even that i will watch it, but it's like people will just send it to me okay. >> stuff like that. and so and they act like i've never seen it before. they're like, oh, look at this. and i'm like, yeah, oh, kobe, i'm doing my best not to cuss right now. >> because now if i was at home and we were playing online like a cuss word would have came out, that's i've lost complete focus. what do you remember about the first warriors championship? like how old were you? this is a team that's like young, not a dynasty yet. and they beat. they beat lebron like did you watch that finals. like what do you remember about that particular season if at all i remember it. >> i thought honestly they kind of like they were always good but like it happened so quickly. like they got good so quickly. and then it was all of a sudden

it was like lebron versus the warriors. and, the dynasty. and it's crazy how fast that they did that. that's a credit to those guys because they put in that work i know. yeah. just from my first season how tough it is. and how grueling the schedule is. >> you know what i have to do what i have to rewatch this and then pick out the best stuff. and there's not a lot of highlights for me. that's the problem. i thought he was gonna get it. oh, man, look at that final score. >> oh, actually, i want to i do want to see the stats. >> what are your expectations for next year? you obviously coming off the season you guys felt you left some on the table. what does it look like going in next year. >> for me personally i want to get stronger in the weight room. just continue to do what coach asked me to do, we've had a few conversations, so i know what i need to do to get better this summer. >> kind of felt short changed. i felt like i deserved to be on one of the rookie teams, but it is what it is, i'm just going to use it as fuel for next year
