the week from here on out. we're tracking triple digits starting tomorrow around the bay shoreline, we will see sunny skies. it will be quite warm, upper 70s to the lower 80s. and as we head along the coast, it's a mix of sun and clouds right now. we'll have brighter sunshine, deeper into the afternoon. it will be mild with highs in the 60s. now that red flag warning, this will kick in tonight for the north bay mountains, the east bay hills for some gusts up to 25mph and humidity down to 10. let's check in with frances. the commute is going all right. >> it's going pretty well right now. we'll start off with a live view for folks heading towards bay bridge on westbound 80. as you make your way from highway four to san francisco for those headlights drive time only 27 minutes. the only slow spot, really, as you can see on the traffic maps, is for folks coming out of tracy crawling under 20 miles an hour to the altamont pass. there was an early accident at grant line road, so check out the drive time. it is really slow red right now. westbound 580 tracy to dublin 49. well look at that. it just jumped up to 51 minutes.

680 those looking good through dublin and highway 85 problem free reggie thanks frances. >> as you wake up this morning we are waiting on a blockbuster decision from the supreme court just after 7 a.m. the justices are expected to rule on presidential immunity. that decision will decide if former president trump will face trial for trying to overturn the 2020 election. abc news reporter nguyen is live for us in dc, and this is, of course, a key case with major implications for decades to come. >> absolutely, reggie. absolutely. good morning. the high court's decision expected today, could upend multiple cases that former president trump currently faces and could have further implications on the powers of the nation's highest office. just hours away from a major supreme court decision on former president trump's immunity claim. facing four felony charges related to efforts to overturn the 2020 election, trump claimed he has broad presidential immunity that would shield him from criminal

prosecution for so-called official acts. much of the oral argument centered around what constitutes as official versus a private act taken while in office. >> you don't think he's in a special a peculiarly precarious position? >> trump posting late yesterday. it is a big decision, a decision which can affect the success or failure of our country for decades to come. meanwhile, the biden campaign working on damage control after the president's widely panned debate performance last week, some top democrats questioning whether biden should be replaced as the party's nominee. >> there are very honest and serious and rigorous conversations taking place at every level, the philadelphia inquirer says it's trump who should withdraw, citing more than 30 lies told on the debate stage. >> and biden, with his record, should remain but proved that he's up to the job. biden's campaign insisting the president will continue to seek reelection

requesting numerous amendments to a previous proposal. the u.s. is pushing for a three phase deal. it includes hamas releasing the remaining 120 israeli hostages in return for a permanent ceasefire back to the heat now and the fire danger as we start a holiday week. >> p-g-and-e's warning power shutoffs are likely as soon as tomorrow in the north bay because of the increasing risk of fire, the east bay will be seeing some of the hottest temperatures. that's where we find abc seven news reporter lena howland live in dublin. how's it feeling out there right now? lena >> hey, kumasi. good morning to you. things are pretty calm out here right now. a much different story than what fire officials are expecting over the next couple of days. with the wind really being the biggest wildcard. now, santa rosa fire officials told us that fire season traditionally hits california later in the year. but with this year's rain came a lot of growth and that vegetation has quickly dried out. plus, this week we're expecting a heat wave with

temperatures hitting the triple digits all combined. a real threat of wildfire across northern california. p-g-and-e's now warning that these conditions could prompt public safety power shutoffs, which are planned outages that prevent wildfires. those are expected to start as early as tomorrow, mostly for small areas in solano and napa counties. >> we're watching really closely for tuesday is what the wind speeds are going to be in these areas that have really dry conditions. >> typically, we see a lot of foggy mornings in may and the no sky july, you know, the june gloom. and we really haven't seen a lot of those foggier heavier, moisture weat mornings, what we are seeing right now is just a lot of really dry back to back weeks with these dry conditions. >> fire officials are also warning that illegal fireworks and even the safe and sane fireworks pose huge risks this

week. remember, because of fire danger, those safe and sane fireworks are only being sold in dublin, new york and union city. in alameda county, live in dublin, lena howland, abc seven news lena. >> thank you. now we take a live look at the golden gate bridge starting this morning. it's going to cost you a little more to cross it. fares increase by $0.50 overnight. fast track users will now pay 925. if you have a pay as you go account, it'll be 950 to cross the bridge. fares will continue to go up every year for the next four years to help erase a $220 million budget deficit for those who ride golden gate transit or golden gate ferry. the fares are also going up this morning. they'll increase by a quarter like the bridge. they will be going up every year until 2028. if you've been thinking that your morning commute feels longer, you are right. sort of. new data from analytics company inrix shows congested congestion is trending worse every year in 2023, drivers in san francisco

lost 45 hours sitting in traffic . that's five hours more than the year before san francisco scored 13th worst in the u.s. for traffic delays. but let's look at the positive inrix says traffic is still 6% lower than 2019, so pre-pandemic. >> 508 this morning, we want to get you prepared for a warm afternoon today and then just hot weather the rest of the week. and that does come with the increased risk of fire danger. so today we're certainly going above average 70s and 80s around the bay shoreline, hottest areas inland well into the 90s. but that red flag warning will kick in here later on tonight. right around 11 p.m. for the north bay mountains. the east bay hills, not one of the strongest winds we've seen under a red flag warning, but under the hot conditions, northerly winds could gust as high as 25mph. it's the humidity as well that will be bone dry in these areas down to about 10. so looking at the winds first we'll

go at 4 p.m. we have a nice onshore flow, but watch what happens at night. we'll see that wind direction. it will change overnight. we have that offshore wind developing. you can clearly see it in parts of the north bay coming out of the sacramento valley. and those winds again could could gust up to 25mph, dragging in that dry humidity and also ushering in that increased risk of fire danger. and we'll repeat that again tuesday night into wednesday morning. it's all about very hot temperatures. most of us under an excessive heat warning or a heat advisory, an excessive heat warning in the pink that is the hottest temperatures. we will have this week. around the bay shoreline. we'll have warm temperatures underneath the heat advisory. so taking a look at our inland areas, especially look at livermore. our average high this time of the year typically in the mid and upper 80s. just look at this as we head towards tuesday. we're hitting 107 and we stay in the triple digits at least through the upcoming weekend. so this heat wave is likely going to last at least six days. and it's

not just here locally. much of california underneath this heat dome. excessive heat warning stretch all the way from redding down into southern california. so we'll take a closer look at those hot temperatures area wide. reggie coming up in just a few minutes. thanks, drew. >> the bay area closing out another successful pride month. temporary art installations for the month long celebration are coming to an end. oh my gosh, the lasers are so amazing! this morning when i was driving down market street, i couldn't believe it. what i was seeing, it's just beautiful. the laser pride flag stretch for miles every night since friday and they really upped the ante this year, adding so many more. so pretty incredible famous pink triangle on the city's twin peaks was taken down yesterday. >> volunteers helped to clear it a few hours before sunset. this tends to be the hardest day in the whole process. working with a smaller group than comes out to set it up. everybody who took part got a pink triangle t shirt as a thank you, and it was a community effort at dolores park for a post pride cleanup following saturday's celebrations in the park, people lend a hand to pick up trash.

was closing in on the caribbean this morning. warnings are in effect right now for multiple islands, including barbados, saint lucia, trinidad and tobago, tobago. beryl is the atlantic's earliest ever category four hurricane. it's expected to bring up to nine feet of storm surge, along with life threatening winds. it's going to make landfall later today. >> looking ahead to tomorrow,

the oakland city council is set to vote on its budget. the city has two versions of it one, if the city can finalize a sale of the coliseum in time, and another if that does not happen. now, the second version calls for major cuts. supporters of the plan that includes the stadium sale say that they are confident in the documented deal, and they're open to including contingency plans that would kick in months from now. but others on the city council are calling that plan fiscally irresponsible. governor gavin newsom has signed california's budget to close an estimated $46 billion deficit. that move was made possible through $16 billion in spending cuts and increased taxes on certain businesses. companies with at least $1 million in revenue will have to pay the higher tax. lawmakers predict this will bring an extra $5 billion for the state next year. that deficit was about $32 billion last year before growing even bigger this year. our lgbtq community is a source of pride to us, but our friends community

let's talk temperatures. here's a look at future tracker tomorrow. the heat really intensifies here. tomorrow afternoon. you see the mid 80s in the city. look at oakland going into the low 90s close to 100 degrees in san jose. and then you see why we have that excessive heat warning in effect for a huge portion of the region inland. look at all these triple digits. we're going to experience tomorrow afternoon. then as we head into wednesday, there's no relief. we'll keep those temperatures very high. that continues thursday. and in fact, we'll keep those temperatures on the hot side through the upcoming weekend. this is a long duration event. in fact, you look at the heat risk. remember, heat is a cumulative effect. so each day that we have these hot temperatures, it wears down your body. so you do want to stay hydrated. you really want to find ways to stay cool. because as we take a look at the heat risk map by wednesday, we have a lot of areas underneath a major two extreme heat risk that extreme risk those pockets of purple you see on your screen. so we're going to be talking about this heat for a long time this week. we just want to keep

you safe and keep you prepared for these warm temperatures. so today believe it or not, today is going to be the coolest day on the seven day forecast 80s and 90s though in the south bay, as we head along the peninsula, we will have a little bit of a marine layer for the coast, but we'll have sunshine 85 for redwood city, 82 mountain view across the city today. we'll keep it in the 60s along the ocean, but as you head towards downtown, we're more in the 70s for daytime highs in the north bay. we are in the 90s in the east bay. we are in the 80s, 80 for oakland, 80 for union city, and then inland. it's getting hot. we're not underneath the warning yet. that will kick in here tomorrow. overnight tonight will track that red flag warning. we have to keep that also in the back of our mind in the north bay mountains, the east bay hills where temperatures stay mild in the 60s and 70s, we have that gusty northerly wind will drop humidity levels down to about 10. so here's the accuweather seven day forecast. warm to hot afternoon. then our heat wave officially begins here tomorrow. and then it's just dangerously hot here midweek for the fourth. not only hot but also fog free for the fireworks here on thursday evening. guys

number one, we have heat risk and fire danger increasing over the next couple of days. warm temperatures this afternoon. but tonight a red flag warning will kick in for the north bay mountains in the east, bay hills for gusty northerly winds that will drop humidity levels dangerously low and then tomorrow we have a heat advisory and excessive heat warning. this begins tomorrow afternoon, lasting through saturday. >> number two p-g-and-e's warning customers in eight counties, including napa and solano, about the potential for limited power shutoffs starting tomorrow. the utility is monitoring weather conditions that could pose a fire danger risk number three, the supreme court is expected to hand down its ruling on presidential immunity today. >> it will decide if former president donald trump can stand trial for trying to overturn the 2020 election. >> number four scott peterson's case back in court today, the focus is dna testing that will be done on a single piece of duct tape. it is a key piece of evidence in peterson's effort to

inland. tomorrow. an excessive heat warning will kick in around the bay shoreline. it's warm today. lots of sunshine, upper 70s, lower 80s around the bay shoreline and then along the coast. a little bit of cloud cover. right now we get a lot of sunshine out there. this afternoon and it will feel mild with temperatures going into the 60s. now, tonight we do have to talk about an increased risk of fire danger. a red flag warning will kick in for the north bay mountains, the east bay hills. this will last through wednesday morning. we'll have a northerly wind pick up late tonight into early tomorrow morning. that will bring some gusty winds, but also drop our humidity to dangerously low levels. humidity down to 10. so not only the risk of fires, but tomorrow there is a risk of some high heat. we'll show you those numbers coming up in a few minutes. let's check in with frances, see how we're doing on the roads this morning. >> all right. morning, drew. good morning everyone. we do have a hot spot developing for folks heading towards the bay bridge right now. the bay bridge toll plaza. it is looking pretty good, but if you are on

westbound 80, that's where the trouble is. right at the berkeley curve and the maze, you'll see that traffic is jammed. and let me see if i can get my graphics there to move up. and you'll see. brake lights. traffic is not quite backed up to powell street from emeryville, but there's a big rig injury accident in the left lanes for folks heading towards the bay bridge. you see some of those blinking lights. notice the carpool lanes getting around it really easily without any problem. so heads up, we'll keep an eye on this for you. and here is the backup. you can see westbound 80 slow through emeryville, but so far not backed up all the way to emeryville. and that's our mainly our only hot spot right now. so we'll let you know if things change. kumasi reggie. >> thank you. francis p-g-and-e's says power shutoffs are likely in some bay area communities tomorrow because of fire danger, with the winds being the big wildcard. abc seven news reporter lena howland live in the east bay and lena dry conditions and fireworks are a big concern. >> hey, kumasi. that's right.

it's those dry conditions. a heat wave and also fireworks that have fire officials preparing for the worst this week. and we've learned that parts of the bay area may also lose their power during this week. two p-g-and-e's warning that these conditions could prompt public safety power shutoffs, which are planned outages that help prevent wildfires. so far, pg and e is only expecting possible shutoffs tomorrow of this week. they say they'll be keeping a close eye on wind speeds in areas that have really dry conditions. specifically, they're watching colusa, glenn lake, napa, shasta, solano, tehama and yolo counties. all eight counties could be facing power shutoffs. >> really, with what we're seeing with just the excessive growth of seasonal grasses, the dry conditions, the winds, the low humidities, uh- really are a lot of concerns as we head into this holiday week. >> and that was paul lowenthal, who is a division chief with the santa rosa fire department. he told us fire season

who buy safe and sane fireworks to be cautious while celebrating not only for their personal safety, but also because of the high fire danger. a warning this morning for swimmers heading into what could be dangerous waters this holiday week. some areas are seeing a spike in water rescues because of rip currents. an off duty lifeguards sprang into action in florida last week when he got word of a swimmer, actually multiple swimmers in distress. he raced into water that had dangerous rip currents after an earlier storm. that lifeguard managed to save an entire family of swimmers who've been swept 200 yards into the gulf of mexico. >> the hard part is, is recognizing where these things are. oftentimes, if you're not trained to see them and locate them, you don't realize that you're in that. >> experts say low spots along the beach or areas near piers are often where rip currents form. they say if you are caught in one, you should try to swim parallel to the shore to try to break its grip.

larch avenue, but they were able to escape in a stolen lexus after police called off a high speed chase. >> new resources are now available for people suffering from severe mental health disorders in san mateo county. the care court program will connect people in need with a care plan for things like treatment and housing. care stands for community assistance, recovery and empowerment. it's part of the governor's push to overhaul california's mental health system. san francisco started its care court last year. all counties must have it in place by december. it's july 1st and a slate of new laws are now kicking in for the state. first of all, the ban with a big impact on your bills. a new law stops businesses from from tacking on surprise fees at the checkout. it requires more transparency about fees on purchases like concert tickets, hotel rooms or food delivery. restaurants are now exempt from this law because the governor signed that part of the bill on saturday. they're still have

they still have to clearly advertise extra fees. the state will also start enforcing a cap on security deposits. landlords can only ask renters to put down one month's rent for a deposit. new safety training will be required for high school athletics coaches. they'll soon have to be trained on recognizing and responding to cardiac arrests, plus get certification and using defibrillators. that's just like the one that helped save buffalo bills player demar hamlin. finally, a new addition for bars and nightclubs across the state. they'll be required to stock drug testing kits to help customers make sure their drinks are safe. >> i feel like it is necessary for bars to have it because of those suspicions, and if hopefully no one ever does get drugged with drinks. but if they do and they don't know what the feeling is and they are confused, at least they know they can find out what's going on. >> it is up to bar and nightclub owners to decide whether to charge people for test strips. we have a full roundup of the new laws kicking in today. just head over to abc seven news.com.

from our tam cam we have clear skies. it's mild this morning. sun's up here at 552 in about ten minutes a lot of sunshine today. today is a warm to hot day inland. you can see those temperatures closing in on 100 degrees around the bay shoreline. we'll go into the 70s and 80s and along the coast we'll stay comfortably cool in the 60s, but not only warm to hot today we will find some gusty winds picking up later on tonight. so highs across the region. warm in oakland today at 8888. in san jose we'll go to 72 in the city. but places like santa rosa concord fairfield closing in on 99 degrees 100 later on this afternoon. and then tonight we'll have that red flag warning beginning for the north bay mountains in the east bay hills. let's watch our winds very closely later on this afternoon. we're enjoying onshore flow, keeping humidity levels relatively high. but then tonight those winds are going to change direction in the overnight hours. and first thing tomorrow morning, we're watching those winds out of the north bringing very low humidity levels. we're talking humidity down to 10% at some point. also

conditions. thursday evening for any fireworks. so a look at the heat risk. remember when it comes to heat waves, it's cumulative. the effect on your body meaning each day is even harder than the last because you don't get any relief from the temperatures not only in the daytime, but in the overnight hours. it does stay pretty mild, so you see these pockets of major to extreme heat risk. the extreme is the purple. you see on your screen. so you really want to find ways to stay hydrated this week. if you have to be outside, please take frequent breaks in the shade. if you're lucky enough to have ac, keep yourself cool. that way, if you don't have ac, it's not a bad idea to say have a wet cloth and put that on the back of your neck to keep you cool. when it's hot in the afternoon. so temperatures today it is sunny and warm. we'll have 80s and 90s in the south bay with a lot of sunshine, but remember, the excessive heat warning doesn't start until tomorrow. so along the peninsula we're in the 80s for redwood city, san mateo, the coastline in the 60s across the city. today we'll find a lot of sunshine along the ocean. we'll

for boeing in connection with two plane crashes that killed hundreds of people. abc news reporter alison kosik explains why families of the victims are not happy. >> this morning, some families of the hundreds of people killed in two deadly boeing 737 plane crashes are crying foul over a proposed plea deal between the justice department and boeing. >> i'm feeling denied justice. >> attorneys for the families say the proposed deal would allow boeing to plead guilty to a conspiracy charge for misleading the faa during its evaluation of the 737 max aircraft. that's the plane involved in the two crashes in indonesia and ethiopia in 2018 and 2019. but under terms of the deal, boeing would not have to

acknowledge that its alleged conspiracy killed the 346 people lost in those crashes. the deal would allow boeing to avoid a public trial, which families wanted, and would find the company about $200 million, well short of the $20 billion families have requested. >> we need to hold boeing accountable, not have them just pay fines as part of the cost of their doing business. this is just another sweetheart deal between the department of justice and boeing. >> nadia milleron, whose 24 year old daughter was killed in one of those crashes, claims the deal would compromise safety. last month on capitol hill, boeing's ceo was grilled about the company's safety record. more recently in the spotlight after a door plug blew off this plane mid-flight. >> you're cutting corners. you are eliminating safety procedures. >> i don't recognize any of the boeing you described. >> boeing insists changes have

been made to protocols and procedures to improve safety. and overnight, another major development. boeing has agreed to buy the supplier under scrutiny after that door plug incident. spirit aerosystems for more than $4 billion boeing spun off spirit in 2005, a move critics say represented a focus on cost cutting. the family's attorneys say the deal being offered would also require an external corporate monitor for boeing, and the company has until next week to accept the deal or face prosecution. neither the company nor the justice department commented overnight. alison kosik, abc news, new york. >> new trouble for the 15,000 north american auto dealerships dealing with a cyber attack that took out a critical computer software system. many aren't able to make payroll. the issue has caused other major problems with order tracking, sales and negotiations. analysts estimate june car sales might be down 7
