how hot it's gonna be and how long this is going to last. >> the president, trying to reassure allies that he is fit to serve another term. governor newsom, among those who say president biden is all in, then an east bay holiday tradition returns. >> people already lined up for dansville parade ten bills parade hours before it starts. we are live with all the fun. >> these dads are committed. >> yeah, yeah. one job. sit now got to get a good spot, you know. >> yeah. they're cooking breakfast burritos, i guess. >> so do it. >> well, good morning to everyone in danville and everywhere else. it's thursday, july 4th. >> yeah. we're going to start the check of our forecast with drew. yeah >> like you mentioned our heat wave continues for another day. an accuweather alert in effect you look at temperatures right now around the bay shoreline. it is another mild morning out there. it's 59 in the city. but we're at 68 in san jose. oakland it is mild this morning coming in at 66 degrees. currently in the north bay. some pockets of 50s around sonoma. but inland we're in the 60s and 70s. as you

get going on this holiday hour, heat advisories and excessive heat warnings continue. they've been extended until next wednesday. so if you're counting. today is day three of what will be a nine day heat wave. so looking at temperatures inland once again we're going back above 100 degrees. it is going to be very sunny and quite hot with those excessive heat warnings in effect. again, this afternoon around the bay shoreline, we have heat advisories in effect 80s and 90s once again for daytime highs. but look at this evening for fireworks. clear skies. we are fog free but mild with temperatures in the 70s for the most part along the coast will have ample amount of sunshine. and this is place a lot of folks may go on the holiday to beat some of that inland heat. we'll have those temperatures in the 60s and 70s. look at the fireworks forecast this evening, guys coming up in just a few minutes. >> now thank you, drew, with those relentless temperatures, san jose is now recording its first heat related death. the first we've heard of in the bay area. the city of antioch is canceling its 4th of july parade today because of the weather.

it's usually held right in the middle of the day and drew says it is expected to get to 104 there today. triple digit temperatures and power outages can be a dangerous combination. pg and e is standing by with extra resources. and in fact, here's a look at the pg and e outage map. right now. you can see that it is sporadic. there are some neighborhoods without electricity in some pockets. we are not seeing any purple triangles now that would indicate a public safety power shut off. p-g-and-e's says they are not planning on doing that today. the utility gave us a rundown of what crews are doing to get through this days long heat wave. >> we've inspected all of our critical substations to ensure all equipment is operating properly, and no apparent issues. we have flown uh- helicopters on 50 transmission lines just to proactively patrol to make sure that we don't see any evidence of any type of, a tree or anything that could come in contact with our lines and disrupt service. >> p-g-and-e's says. energy

usage is nearing a single day record set in september of 2022. >> happening today danville, celebrating america's independence with its annual and very popular 4th of july parade, abc seven news reporter lena howland. there in the east bay, where people have been camping out for a good spot, even cooking up some breakfast burritos. despite all that heat, lena. >> hey kumasi. that's right, and we have been seeing a steady flow of neighbors here in danville coming by to set up even more chairs to set up their breakfast spreads. a lot of excitement, and we are still three hours away from the parade. now i am joined by rob goldstein. he's actually the parade chair for the city of danville. so rob, talk to me a little bit about what's going on. i know we've been seeing a lot of people setting out these chairs, even some folks setting them out yesterday in triple digit heat. tell me what's going on. >> well, typically everybody sets out their chairs, typically the night before. they're not supposed to set them out until 6 p.m. the night before yesterday,

they were out here like at 10 a.m. so it was the earliest it's been in many years. wow. it used to be like that like 15 years ago. and it's getting back to like that again. wow. so it was really festive yesterday. if you ever want to have a little party come out to july 3rd in downtown danville, it's a festive atmosphere. >> amazing. and rob, i know the heat is kind of at everyone on top of everyone's mind today. it's going to be around 9697 here in danville. talk to me a little bit about the precautions you are urging some of the parade goers to really take even before heading to the parade. >> yeah, we're telling everybody to stay hydrated, stay hydrated. obviously but bring water, bring spray bottles and things like that just to, you know, stay cool and don't bring your pets the worst thing to do is have a pet, a dog or something. walking on this hot pavement. so, you know, use your common sense and, you know, bring an umbrella that

would help. and it's not just the viewers, but the participants in the parade. they're sitting back there waiting to come out. so that's a whole nother obstacle. having them wait and they're just chomping at the bit. everybody wants to go out first. yeah. so that's a challenge okay. >> and then rob explain to us, you know, we have heard from other communities like the city of antioch, they decided to cancel their parade because of the heat. why was it important for the city of danville to continue doing the parade despite the heat? >> well, fortunately, we do it at 9 a.m. right now. when i got here, it was 72 degrees, which is really perfect. by the end of the parade, it might get up to 90, but i think leading up to the parade, it's going to be in the 80s probably, which is pretty comfortable. and we've been through it before. the parades that i understand that have been canceled are later in the day when it heats up, like at 4:00 is probably the hottest time of the day. i think this

you know, and that's when you see neighbors just panicking and trying to get out and that's when it hit me like, this is real. i got to leave. >> happening now. thousands of people are being forced to leave their homes because of a growing wildfire near oroville this morning, the thompson fire has burned over 3500 acres in butte county. >> firefighters are making progress. right now it is 7% contained. the fire is burning near lake oroville. several buildings have been destroyed. cal fire has yet to determine the exact number. at least four firefighters were hurt while battling these flames. people who live nearby rushed out of their homes as the fire inched closer. >> this is the closest that it's been and we had giant embers dropping on the driveway and i said, okay, we got to go. i can't, i can't do this. >> governor newsom declared a state of emergency. meanwhile, attorney general rob bonta is issuing a warning over price gouging state law makes it illegal to jack up prices on

things like food and gasoline in an emergency. >> president biden is vowing to stay in the presidential race despite sources reportedly saying he's, quote, keeping an open mind. he met with a group of democratic governors, including governor newsom, in what was described as a candid discussion. gloria is live with how some of those governors are now reacting after that meeting. gloria. >> good morning. kumasi president biden met yesterday with more than 20 democratic governors to discuss last week's debate and the path forward, and he told them that he is staying in the race. two governors have now been floated as potential replacements for him. michigan's gretchen whitmer and governor gavin newsom both attended last night's meeting in person and say they are sticking by president biden. newsom wrote, quote, i heard three words from the president. he's all in, and so am i. many other governors doubled down on their support. they cite the president's accomplishments during his first term and their concerns. should donald trump be reelected. >> we're worried because of the threat of a trump presidency is

with tax and immigration. >> 610 this morning, an accuweather alert in effect for our heat wave rolling on for another day. a live look from the exploratorium. what a lovely start to the holiday. today we have clear skies, just a calm bay water and we will have hot temperatures once again. this afternoon. so the heat risk inland continues to be major to extreme, and there will be little change to the heat risk map over the next couple of days. the coast is where we're beating that heat, but inland it is certainly very hot with temperatures again above 100 degrees later this afternoon. let's go hour by hour. plan your holiday this morning. it is comfortable, but it will be warm in the 70s and 80s at 10 a.m. and then by lunch time, if you may be grilling out midday here. certainly it is hot inland. we're in the 90s, 80s and 90s around the bay shoreline, but the coast is comfortable staying in the 60s and 70s and then again this afternoon, just like the past couple of days inland above 100 degrees with that excessive heat warning, in effect, heat advisories in effect around the bay shoreline

for good reason. those hot temperatures. but the coast really stays immune from the excessive heat. so 68 the high and half moon bay. but 104 in concord will go to 98. in san jose, 90 in san mateo, 87 in oakland, 77 in the city, a hot 100 in santa rosa. so here's a look at the fireworks forecast. we will have clear skies. we are totally fog free. and look at your 9 p.m. temperatures this evening. it will be quite mild. >> reggie drew thank you. still to come, one country says their citizens aren't working enough, so they're going to do a six day workweek. then what? bay area based patelco credit union is saying about customers money. nearly a week after a ransomware attack, and where some bay area residents will be treated to drone shows instead of a firework

concerns about fire safety and emergency vehicle access, officials are closing grizzly peak in the oakland hills. so these streets will be closed today. southbound lakeshore boulevard from macarthur to east 18th street, bellevue avenue, el embarcadero, and portions of grand avenue, including the off ramp from i-5 70 grizzly peak boulevard between skyline and centennial drive, will also be closed. that starts at 6:00 this morning, and it goes until 6:00 tomorrow morning. this is usually a popular spot for

people to watch the fireworks, but because the fire concerns this stretch of road is going to be closed, there will be emergency personnel on hand to keep people from entering this corridor has been closed for 4th of july for the past five years, and officials say because of that, there have been no confirmed fires and no closures have significantly reduced crowds and illegal parking at the lookout points. now, if you have unused fireworks, take a look at your screen right here, because these are the oakland fire stations where you can drop them off so they can be properly disposed. all fireworks are illegal in oakland. if you are caught with them, you can face a $1,000 fine, and you should also check with your county because they are illegal in several counties as well. reggie. >> gloria, thank you. for many cities across the bay area, drones will be lighting up the sky for independence day celebrations. some of those locations include san pablo, napa and mare island. >> journal art shows are pretty special. we're not in the business of replacing fireworks by any means. we like to call ourselves an alternative, and

the drone folks say that they're safer during the fire season. >> they're more environmentally friendly. plus it minimizes noise disturbances and litter vets. we spoke to say that every year, july 4th celebrations lead to a 60% surge in lost pets and having a microchip is not always enough. the medical director at the city of san jose animal care center shares some tips, including creating a comfortable hiding spot, locking doggie doors, playing calm music or white noise, exploring calming treatments like hugging sweaters or even medication and avoid a common mistake with microchips. >> i would definitely log on to the website that your microchip is linked to, and make sure that your phone number and email and address are accurate. we get a lot where the phone numbers have been disconnected, so it becomes a dead end chip. >> also, if you do lose a pet, try posting to nextdoor or other social media experts say it's been very helpful when it comes

to getting lost pets home. >> ride hailing companies could soon face an additional tax. transit activists in san francisco want that money to help muni close its large budget deficit that's expected next year. today they'll be turning in signatures they've collected in support of this proposal. this is according to the examiner, the community transit act would impose a graduated tax on uber, lyft and waymo service in the city. the money would go toward maintaining or even expanding muni service and toward its discounted fare programs. >> you've probably heard about some places doing four day work weeks to prevent burnout, but now one country is doing the total opposite. greece is the first european country to introduce a six day workweek under a new law. some employees can either work an extra two hours per day or add an entire eight hour shift. greece's prime minister says this will boost productivity. the government also argues that addresses issues of employees working unpaid overtime. >> okay, maybe if you are working anyway, you might as

hours from now, this will be a pretty busy place. we'll look at the beach forecast for you. it will be very popular with folks trying to get some cooler weather. many of our beaches will be in the 70s today, from bodega to ocean beach. santa cruz, though at 82 degrees, will have a northerly breeze. pretty light today. your uv index is very high in the ocean. water temperature is in the mid 50s. so looking at today's forecast again, going above 100 degrees inland today with those excessive heat warnings around the bay shoreline, it will be warm in the upper 80s and lower 90s later on today. and then along the coast, we'll have mostly sunny skies and those temperatures mainly in the upper 60s and lower 70s. so highs today, our extreme heat continues with those excessive heat warnings in the south bay. 103 morgan hill 98. in san jose, about 93. in sunnyvale along the peninsula, 96. redwood city 90. in san mateo, 92. los altos, but cooler along the coast across the city. today we'll have a wide range upper 60s, lower 70s along the ocean, but upper 70s downtown with 83 in south san

francisco, the north bay. it is another hot day. 103 calistoga will hit about 100in santa rosa, 97 in napa, the same in san rafael. the east bay. it is hot today, with heat advisories in effect 87 in oakland, but 94 in fremont will hit 86 in hercules and inland. another day where those temperatures surge above 100 hit 104. in concord, about 105. in brentwood. overnight tonight, we'll have clear skies again. we are free of fog for the fireworks this evening. temperatures overnight tonight will be in the 50s and in the 60s. so looking at temperatures as we head towards friday and into the weekend, little day to day change. that's why this heat wave rolls through the weekend with those heat advisories and excessive heat warnings remaining in effect. so here's the accuweather seven day forecast showing you it is sizzling for the 4th of july. remember, red flag warnings are still in effect through the weekend as our heat wave rolls on. we'll have lots of sunshine saturday and sunday. even early next week, we'll continue to track those hot temperatures away from the coast. guys, thanks to you. >> good morning america is

effect will be in the 80s and 90s, but look at the forecast this evening. clear skies, no fog to contend with if you want to try and see some fireworks. so there's some good news there. and then along the coast, this is where folks are going to be to beat some of that heat that's inland. we'll have lots of sunshine, temperatures in the 60s and 70. your ocean water temperature currently in the mid 50s. kumasi >> thank you drew. well, the heat has been really tough and we are just a couple of days into this steamy stretch of weather, as you just heard from drew, many bay area cities broke their daily temperature record yesterday. the city of antioch canceling its 4th of july parade. today. it's usually held in the middle of the day. yesterday, the high. there was 109. san jose is now recording its first heat related death during the stretch. the first we've heard of here in the bay area. gloria is live explaining how matt mayor, matt mehan is responding to the incident. >> good morning kumasi. an unhoused person died from heat exhaustion on tuesday night, and mayor matt mehan says that in

response, city staff are handing out bottled water to unhoused people. he says the city is working on doubling the amount of quick builds and safe sleeping and safe parking sites. we spoke with a woman who is a homeless advocate and she says, you can't force people into shelters or tents and says the news of this death is not surprising, completely expected. >> and i'm sure that there's going to be many more. i mean, there's a war on unhoused people here in san jose and santa clara county. >> i feel responsibility for that as mayor. you know, i want everybody in our community to be safe. and i, you know, while it's, you know, not not all deaths are preventable, this one was san jose has three cooling centers open. >> you can see the locations right there on your screen. they're open from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. at least until saturday. reggie. >> gloria. thank you. the search continues this morning for a man who was last seen swimming off the villa grande beach in monte rio. officials believe the man, in his mid 20s, could have

drowned in the russian river after 6 p.m. yesterday. the rescue effort a warning to be careful in the water this summer. >> the main thing is don't get in water over your head if you can't swim, make sure you know what you're doing when you get in the water. keep your head about you. watch what's going on. watch for snags, but mainly have flotation device on several divers and rescuers on jet skis tried to locate him yesterday, but they had no luck. >> they also used a boat with sonar technology to check the bottom of the river. they had to call off the search last night, at least temporarily, because of the four. i should say the crews safety. abc seven is looking into how climate change is impacting the extreme weather hitting the bay area. the science suggests the world is now warming faster than at any point in recorded history. greenhouse gas emissions, like from the bay area's many refineries, trap the sun's heat. they are one of the leading causes of global warming and climate change. these hot temperatures pose a risk to

like out here yesterday. every year this parade brings between 30 to 40,000 spectators from all over the bay area. but keep in mind it is expected to be around 97 degrees here in danville today. the parade chair told me earlier this morning they decided to move forward with the parade despite the heat. since it's happening a bit earlier in the day. >> i mean, we've been doing it for so long and we've endured heat in previous years. it hasn't been like this for the last 4 or 5 years, but we've had hot days like this before, and the fact that we do it at 9 a.m, it's still relatively comfortable. >> parade goers are being urged to bring lots of water, snacks, a blanket to sit on, hats, sunscreen and sunglasses. also a good reminder to leave your pets at home as the pavement may be too hot for them. tents are not permitted along the parade route, and again, this parade kicks off at 9:00 this morning and it is expected to go until

the da announced charges against the driver who hit and killed a family of four. prosecutors say the 78 year-old driver was going somewhere between 65 and 72 miles an hour when she hit the family waiting at the bus stop in march. the speed limit there is only 25mph. right after the crash, sfmta and city officials proposed changes to the street. some community members rallied against it, worried it would negatively impact local busines. >> going at the very high speed on the wrong side of the street. there's nothing, nothing you can do about it now. >> the supervisor for the district said. traffic changes are still needed at that intersection, and the city is working with the merchants on that. >> the unhoused man accused of pushing a woman in front of a bart train will be charged with murder. in a statement yesterday, district attorney brooke jenkins says 49 year old this 49 year old man intentionally killed 74 year old corazon dandan by pushing her

into the path of an oncoming train at the powell street bart station in san francisco monday night. danette's family tells us she was heading home from her night shift as a telephone operator at the marriott in union square. we decided not to release the name of the man accused because he hasn't been officially charged yet, but he is due in court tomorrow. >> now to new developments in the mass shooting that happened during oakland's juneteenth celebration at lake merritt, 23 year old jordan kelly of oakland was charged with four felony counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, prosecutors say evidence shows kelly fired the weapon into a massive crowd, injuring four people. a total of 14 people were shot. kelly is being held on $1.6 million bail. >> in oakland, 13 senior citizens in a community living center have reportedly been brutally attacked and robbed in just the last week, police say there is no sign that the victims are being targeted

because of their race, but this is a majority asian american community. >> sister marie taylor is president of the westlake christian terrace resident council, and she says she's counted nearly 30 violent attacks and robberies in less than a week. she says several residents had to be taken to the e.r. >> not only do you just grab their purse, but then you beat them brutally. we had police on saturday, almost seven hours, filing reports. residents filing reports, and then it continued on sunday, with more multiple residents being attacked. >> oakland police say they've made several key arrests, thanks in part to the number of people who reported the crimes. >> they're encouraging more people to come forward. >> aquarium of the bay in san francisco is asking the state to investigate its ousted president over allegations of financial and operational mismanagement. officials from the aquarium voted to refer those allegations about george jacob to the attorney general's office. jacob was forced to resign in may over

hit jamaica overnight. gloria there are new warnings for some areas as beryl is now heading northwest. >> reggie hurricane warnings have been issued for the cayman islands and mexico's yucatan peninsula as beryl heads northwest, oil companies like bp and shell are now evacuating some workers from rigs in the

gulf. beryl hit jamaica as a category four hurricane. winds reached 140 miles an hour. the country's prime minister warned. the island has not seen the worst of beryl's impact. up to nine feet of storm surge was expected, with flooding and mudslides. some tourists have to ride out the storm. >> we went to the airport just to make sure and every counter, just like they told us, they said, hey, every flight is full, you can't get off this island. >> the hurricane has killed at least seven people, and beryl could impact texas next week, possibly as a category one hurricane. kumasi thanks, gloria. >> rapper sean diddy combs is facing another lawsuit from former adult film actress adria english. she is claiming that she was groomed and forced to engage in prostitution by combs. she says when they met, combs offered her boyfriend a job if she danced at combs parties. this is the ninth lawsuit

against combs since last november. the rapper denied many of the claims in this and in past lawsuits, federal investigators are preparing to bring combs accusers before a grand jury. >> now, an update from the abc seven news i-team on a story that we've covered for five years. just yesterday, a court made a major decision in the case of two bay area men convicted of killing a plain clothes police officer in rome. an italian appeals court upheld the convictions of finnegan elder and gabriel nataliah, but it reduced their sentences to 15 and 11 years, respectively. they initially received life sentences. the two friends both attended marin's tamalpais high school. in the summer of 2019, they were on italy. they were in italy on vacation. the deadly confrontation happened in what the men describe as a drug deal gone wrong and acts of self-defense. the defendants get credit for the five years they've already served in prison, and could get more time off for good behavior. abc seven news i-team reporter dan noyes

produced an award winning documentary about the case. it's called 32 seconds a deadly night in rome. it's available on demand on the abc seven bay area app. >> a southern california man has been convicted in the hate crime killing of his former high school classmate, who was jewish and gay. 19 year old blaze bernstein went missing in newport beach in 2018. a week later, his body was found in a park he visited with convicted with samuel woodward the night he went missing. bernstein was stabbed 28 times. woodward admitted to the killing. prosecutors argued the murder was punishable as a hate crime, claiming woodward was also a part of a group. they say he killed bernstein because he was gay and jewish. bernstein's family says the verdict brings a measure of closure. >> this is a great relief that justice was served and this despicable human who murdered our son will no longer be a threat to the public. >> woodward faces a life
