visibility up in santa rosa three quarters of a mile. also half moon bay. and this has been sneaking up the marin county coast, but at the same time, red flag warning until 9:00 tonight. winds could gust as high as 25 miles an hour, and our heat warnings, excessive heat warning inland and the advisory around the bay shore. beautiful view of mount tam right now, but current numbers? well, they're quite mild in spots with mid 60s in san jose, 60 in oakland, 55 half moon bay and from our sutro tower camera we have a 554 sunrise, 56 in santa rosa with that fog. 62 in concord, upper elevations. look how hot on top of a near mount tam 94 degrees mount diablo 91. so we're concerned with the extra dry conditions, the heat that we're going to see again today, any wind at all. by noontime, we're in the 90s inland. and look at that 105 by the delta. today we'll talk about some minor cooling as we get into sunday gloria. >> all right lisa, thank you so much. your voice, your votes. president joe biden remains defiant, rejecting calls for him

to drop out. he answered some tough questions from abc's george stephanopoulos in an exclusive interview. it was his first major interview since last week's debate. and we begin our coverage with abc news reporter daria elbinger. >> president biden's exclusive tv interview with abc's george stephanopoulos, his first since his faltering debate. >> but your friend nancy pelosi actually framed the question that i think is on the minds of millions of americans was this a bad episode or the sign of a more serious condition? >> it was a bad episode. uh- no indicator of any serious condition. i was exhausted, i didn't listen to my instincts in terms of preparing and a bad night. >> asked if he's mentally fit to be president, let me ask you a tougher, more personal question. >> are you sure you're being honest with yourself when you say you have the mental and physical capacity to serve another four years? >> yes, i am, because, george, last thing i want to do is not

they're going the opposite direction in polling. >> not everyone is as skeptical as quigley, though. i caught up with former san francisco mayor willie brown and showed him clips from the interview to get his reaction. >> based on what you just showed me, i see nothing wrong with any of his answers or his responses, brown says. >> while he thinks the president is capable of doing the job, the decision to stay in the race is not an easy one. over the past week, speculation has grown over who might replace biden if he were to drop out two of the most mentioned names being california governor gavin newsom and vice president kamala harris, both of whom brown has mentored and knows personally. >> either of them, in my opinion, would be capable of arousing the interest from democrats who would then make up the vote that would defeat trump if the president were to pull out of the race, whoever replaces him would still have their own set of challenges, according to experts. >> i'm not so sure it's that

easy, really. i think in the short run, yeah, there are going to be advantages to a fresh face and a media blitz around some new candidate. but remember, this is still a significantly lengthy race. >> lanhee chen is a political advisor and fellow at stanford's hoover institution. he says while biden has vowed to stay in the race, his decision may ultimately be influenced by high profile democratic donors. several of whom have announced they've paused financial contributions in recent days. >> without the resources to run a competitive campaign, it's going to be very difficult for the president and for democrats. down ticket tim johns, abc seven news and multiple sources tell abc news that house minority leader hakeem jeffries has planned a virtual meeting with other top democrats tomorrow. >> president biden is expected to be the focus of that meeting, and abc news also offered former president trump a one on one interview, but he declined. jason miller, who's a senior adviser to the trump campaign, had this response to biden's events. in a newsmax interview,

he said in part, we saw the speech earlier. those clips are bad. and now these additional clips from abc are even worse. i don't understand what joe biden's team is doing. clearly, his weakness is speaking and you can see the full interview with joe biden again tomorrow at 8 a.m. on this week with george stephanopoulos. portions will also be airing on good morning america starting this morning in the south bay. the san jose fire department says it was inundated with hundreds of calls on the 4th of july. among them multiple fires near lake cunningham, which held the city sanctioned fireworks show. abc7 south bay news reporter lauren martinez spoke to a longtime advocate who works to stop illegal fireworks. she says it is time for a change >> 4th of july celebrations turned fiery across san jose, near the city's sanctioned show at lake cunningham. fires did break out on friday. you could

see small, charred patches of grass. it's not clear yet if those fireworks are what caused the fire. >> it's bombs. people are setting off bombs because it's fun. >> for years, suzanne maroney has been advocating to stop illegal fireworks in the city and even city run events. maroney says they send the wrong message. you model the behavior you want, and if you're going to explode things to celebrate, so are other people. before the fourth, the area city council member told us combating illegal fireworks was their goal with the lake cunningham show. >> by creating a hub and a safe place for people to come and enjoy fireworks. that's my hope that we will deter any illegal activities from happening. cal fire santa clara unit helped the san jose fire department respond to two fires. >> on the fourth, we spoke with a fire captain with sfpd at an incident. they were responding to on friday afternoon at the goodwill silicon valley. >> the last 24 hours have been

incredibly busy, and we are very grateful to our neighbors. all of the surrounding agencies have sent us help. >> when we asked for it, the san jose fire department said between june 1st to july 4th, 659 online reports and 311 calls were made about fireworks. there were 52 calls to sfpd and 21 citations were issued. all three of these totals were less than last year. >> it's a waste of resources because it causes all the pollution that we're giving all this lip service. so let's have more bicycle lanes. let's do this. let's cut down on driving, and then let's go explode things and fill the air with pollutants. >> moroney hopes the city will switch to using drones for future fourth celebrations. >> if we have a fireworks show, then everybody will have a place to go when they won't want to set them off here at home. i have never seen that working in san jose. >> lauren martinez abc seven news and the sky was lit up in

contra costa county with illegal fireworks for the july 4th holiday fire investigators tell us the fires linked to illegal fireworks will be looked into as soon as possible. >> anthony hamilton says he and his family are lucky to be alive. he says they only had minor hits to get out of his home as a wildfire raced up the hill near their house in antioch. it was likely started by illegal fireworks being shot off in the shopping plaza below. >> this is our house on the hillside. it's going up the hill. we're about to get burnt out. our home. me and my son. >> the two acre fire that burned near hamilton's house was the biggest in the area. more than 1000 calls came into the fire department on july fourth. the penalty for arson in antioch includes a $10,000 fine and a possible prison sentence. now let's get a check of your forecast with lisa. good morning. lisa. >> hey, gloria. good morning to you. hi, everyone. what a gorgeous view. 84 degrees on top

forecast for this weekend. well, in oakland, gas station manager whose business was looted overnight is questioning the response time by police. it happened at the 76 station on hegenberger road near interstate 880. that's right up the street from the airport. a crowd broke in and began ransacking the place around 430 on friday morning. you could see this video right here. and the station manager, sam maday, says that he saw dozens of people taking whatever they could, and he tells us some of them were upset that he wasn't letting them inside, only allowing window service. he's estimating $100,000 in damage and theft. >> shelves were ripped apart all the grocery items were torn or stepped on or vandalized. they broke the refrigerators. they robbed our atm, tore the atm apart, took everything in it. they tried to get the safe, but it was more secure than anything else so they could get through that. basically every single thing, even the tv.

>> maday said that oakland police did not send an officer right when he called in a statement, police said the crime was reported as having no suspects on scene, which means an officer wasn't called to the crime immediately. opd tells us that an officer eventually responded and they are reviewing evidence. there have been a string of issues in the hegenberger area. on wednesday, there was a shooting reported at a chevron gas station and this is the same area where an in and out burger closed in march because of the crime. well abc seven news is following the story of the fbi raid of oakland mayor sheng tao's home, as well as the california waste solutions ceo and his son. the chronicle reports that oakland city attorney ordered some staff to preserve all documents related to the mayor's partner, andre jones. the email said it was related to a federal grand jury subpoena. jones lives with mayor tao in the home raided by the fbi, and the mayor has said that she is innocent of any crime implied by the search. the

skystar wheel is back open at fisherman's wharf after weeks of it being closed. crews took it down for additional work and to meet requirements for a permit extension from the port of san francisco, you can expect to see it stay put for another year and a half. >> we had to disassemble the entire wheel and move it 15ft to the west. >> i'd heard that it had gone downhill and that things weren't quite as same, but all the places we've been have looked great. >> it looks very clean to me. people are very nice. i think it's a great place to come visi. >> tourism groups tell us of foot traffic has increased at the pier and of course it's good news for local businesses that are dependent on tourism. those business owners say they are also seeing the difference. this morning. firefighters are working around the clock to put out several fires burning in the bay area and around the state. the french fire burning near yosemite has torn through more than 900 acres containment is

now up to 20. some evacuation orders in mariposa county have been lifted. highway 140 is back open this morning, restoring access to a major route into the national park. the cause is still under investigation in butte county, near oroville are all evacuation orders have been lifted for the thompson fire. it is 55% contained. nearly 3800 acres have burned since tuesday morning. the fire has destroyed 25 structures. authorities say that three firefighters have suffered heat related injuries. and meteorologist lisa argen is tracking the forecast. of course, we're all getting ready for the weekend. so lisa, that heat wave, it seems like it's going to continue, right? yeah. you know, despite the fog and the onshore flow, we're still looking at temperatures well into the one hundreds today. >> we saw 107 yesterday in livermore. and we will be looking at the cool weather along the coast mixed in with some sunshine. so you won't be

totally in the clouds if you're headed to the shoreline. so we have really a mix in that range. once again from 30 to 40 degrees. so we're looking at that 550 for sunrise. and then once that sun comes up, we're into day five of our heat wave. there's a look at almost cloud free conditions. but from san mateo through mount tam. and you can see from our sutro tower camera just looking at the peak there of salesforce out in the distance, it is 57 downtown, 60 in oakland, 61 in hayward and redwood city, where it was 96 yesterday, 64 in san jose, it was 94, in the south bay. and 55 right now half moon bay. so santa clara, the south bay baking the past couple of days that continues right on through the weekend into next week. it's 56 in santa rosa, 54 petaluma. look at the 60s from concord to livermore and fairfield. so certainly not cooling off when we've got the upper elevations in the 80s and 90s. and if you live above 8900ft, you know what

i mean? it's been very warm in the upper elevations and dry, and it continues looking at the headlines. then the heat wave into next week, the red flag warning through 9:00 tonight for the interior mountains of the north bay, the east bay valleys, the santa cruz mountains. and it will be pretty comfortable at the coast today with a mix of clouds and sun. there's a look at santa cruz. it's 57. it was pretty dark out there, but we're looking at 80s today, so a warm day there while we're in the 60s and 70s closer to ocean beach and stinson with partly cloudy skies. so a bit of a breeze today. but look what happens tomorrow. so we get into that 15 to 20 mile an hour range. it's not going to help you in our inland valleys, but this is the source of our cooling, the onshore flow as we get into sunday. and that delta breeze picks up. so we're going to knock off at least five degrees in our inland valleys tomorrow. today though, it's going to be sweltering into tuesday. notice 80s and 90s. we get bit of relief wednesday a bump up again. we're back to the upper

around the bay shore current look outside. fog is with us this morning, so it's going to be comfortable in the city at the coast 57 right now. downtown, 64 in san jose, 55 half moon bay. there's fog up in santa rosa, where it's 56. it is 64 by the delta. and you can see that fog in place there along the coast. so upper elevations 80s 90s. that's how hot it is. it's dry. and we'll continue to see the temperatures climb quickly to near 100 at noontime inland, 80 around the bay shore, those west northwest winds keeping it comfortable at the coast. but afternoon highs could see some records in excess of 105, perhaps even 107, there by the delta. gloria. >> wow. very hot. thank you. lisa abc seven news is following the story of the unpermitted event known as the dolores park hill bomb. it happens every year, and it's expected to happen again today. dozens of people gather to skateboard down a hill at high speeds. in the past, it has led to arrests, injuries and even a death. and now police are saying do not

show up today. or you could get arrested. abc seven news reporter luz pena has more on the message. >> reporter these are images of july of 2023. sfpd in riot gear arresting over 100 people as bottles were thrown at them and public transportation was vandalized. this all following an unpermitted annual event where skateboarders go down a hill between 18th and 19th streets near dolores park, and they're unorganized, unpermitted, unsanctioned and there are no rules at all. >> that is what we cannot allow. uh- people have been gravely injured and killed in the past, according to sfpd. >> they found online fliers advertising another hill bomb and then canceling it for the weekend ahead of any potential event, the police chief had a message if they are committing crimes, they may be arrested and they likely will be arrested or cited. >> if they're hanging out like kids, do we don't have a problem

with that. >> at least 81 teenagers were arrested last year. earlier this week, sfpd held a community meeting to hear from residents in the area. mark allen has lived in the neighborhood for years. he's glad sfpd is now speaking about barricading the area. >> i appreciate trying to get in front of these things because, you know, usually what happens is it's happening and the police are kind of standing by, you know, not really knowing what to do after the fact because there's hundreds of people out there. >> other residents don't think closing this street will stop skateboarders. >> you can barricade it. they'll move up the street, let them do it for four hours. it doesn't even take up the whole day and just let them go. >> we met luke johnson at one of the city's skate parks. he's planning to attend the dolores park hill bomb. despite the consequences. you could potentially get arrested, and you're still going to do it? yeah. >> why? it's going to be fun. >> he would like for the city to turn this into an official

event. >> i feel like the reason they don't like the hill bomb is because of the people that get hurt and like all the injuries and stuff that happen. so they just make it a little safer for those people. >> luz pena, abc seven news. >> the city has been open about turning this into a permitted event, but they need someone to lead it. according to chief scott, no one has come forward and that's because if an injury were to happen, that organizer would be held liable. new developments in the case of an elderly driver charged in a crash that killed a family of four at a san francisco bus stop, 79 year old mary fong lao has pleaded not guilty to manslaughter charges in her first court appearance. prosecutors say that lao was speeding excessively on the wrong side of the road. that's when she slammed into the bus stop on west portal avenue back in march. lao's attorney claims her vehicle malfunctioned, causing that crash. >> i think it's unfortunate that we can't take this as an accident without some sort of criminal culpability and liability here, because no

matter what happens behind these doors, it's not going to bring anybody back. >> investigators have ruled out mechanical failure as the cause. police also determined that lao was not intoxicated and had no medical issues. the man charged with murder for the death of a woman at a bart station was supposed to make his first court appearance on friday. however, it was postponed late monday night. police say that 74 year old corazon dandan was pushed at the powell station. she hit an oncoming train in the platform and passed away. and now to the heat that we're feeling across the bay area, the hot weather is driving crowds to the coast, where temperatures are significantly cooler than inland. abc seven news was at stinson beach and there were a lot of people there. you could see them laying out, just having a good time there at the beach. this small marine county town has seen huge crowds of visitors looking for a place to cool off for beachside businesses. it's also a nice boost.

about getting some relief from this heat soon. yeah. today is going to be the peak heat inland where we see temperatures possibly as hot as 107 108 in our inland valleys. >> so high pressure is drifting to the east. but before it does so it really is going to give one final sizzling day. and you can see some of that fog right along the coast. so some live cameras here for you. pier 39 shrouded in fog. as we turn around and check out alcatraz 57 right now in the city at 60 in oakland, 64 in san jose, half moon bay 55. a nice day on the way at our beaches and a nice pan there from our roof. camera 56, santa rosa. it's in the 60s, so cooled off somewhat in our inland valleys, but today another 35 degrees of warming from where we are right now. so the heat wave continues into next week for our inland valley. some relief on the way tomorrow and then into the early part of the week. but actually wednesday temperatures are going to pump back up again. red flag warning in the mountains of the north

bay, the east bay, the santa cruz mountains through 9:00 tonight. and it's comfy at the coast with a mix of clouds and sun, a kind of warm in stinson upper 70s. there you saw foggy santa cruz a few moments ago. 83 there today, obviously with the sunshine, but looking at that fog pulling back to the coast and it will be around. so we're going to get that sea breeze. it should feel pretty nice. here's a look at concord today. could be as hot as 108. we're looking at highs normally in the upper 80s. but look what happens tomorrow. we drop off. this continues into monday. and then tuesday still comfortable wednesday. and thursday we could see temperatures back up. so highs today once again in the south bay mid 90s. little change for you from san jose morgan hill 105 102 in los gatos and on the peninsula. it's been in the 90s for you. redwood city about as hot today. you get that sea breeze though. once again 76 there parts of san francisco where you're a little bit on the warmer side, but right along the coast here, some upper 60s from

richmond, eight more stations are scheduled to swap out their old gates starting this year. they include sfo, powell, antioch and coliseum. the new fare gates are taller and harder to get through without pain. bart estimates that fare evasion costs them more than $15 million every single year. happening today. the fillmore jazz festival returns to san francisco for its 35th year. the event is the west coast's largest free jazz festival. it attracts over 50,000 people, and if you go, you could groove to live music, enjoy some tasty
