right along the shoreline. so that is definitely giving us some relief in some dense fog. right at the coast. but we still have a red flag warning in effect for the interior. north bay mountains. also, the east bay and the santa cruz mountains until 9:00 tonight. and there's a look at our excessive heat warning inland, the advisory around the bay shore 80s and 90s there. look what is left of the fog. very, very little. so we will be looking at the effects of the sea breeze right at the coast. 58 in the city it is 64. redwood city, still going to the 90s on the peninsula. and this fog will clear and we'll look for temperatures near 100 by noontime. so even though we're cooler right now, we'll make up the difference for a scorching afternoon later on today. >> inland 100. wow. again lisa, thank you so much. your voice, your vote. president joe biden remains defiant, rejecting calls for him to drop out. he answered some tough questions from abc's george stephanopoulos and in an

with former san francisco mayor willie brown and showed him clips from the interview to get his reaction. >> based on what you just showed me, i see nothing wrong with any of his answers or his responses, brown says. >> while he thinks the president is capable of doing the job, the decision to stay in the race is not an easy one. over the past week, speculation has grown over who might replace biden if he were to drop out two of the most mentioned names being california governor gavin newsom and vice president kamala harris, both of whom brown has mentored and knows personally. >> either of them. in my opinion, would be capable of arousing the interest from democrats who would then make up the vote that would defeat trump if the president were to pull out of the race. >> whoever replaces him would still have their own set of challenges. according to experts. >> i'm not so sure it's that easy, really. i think in the short run, yeah, there are going to be advantages to a fresh face and a media blitz around some

new candidate. but remember, this is still a significantly lengthy race. lanhee chen is a political advisor and fellow at stanford's hoover institution. >> he says while biden has vowed to stay in the race, his decision may ultimately be influenced by high profile democratic donors, several of whom have announced they've paused financial contributions in recent days. >> without the resources to run a competitive campaign, it's going to be very difficult for the president and for democrats. down ticket tim johns, abc seven news multiple sources tell abc news. >> house minority leader hakeem jeffries has planned a virtual meeting with other top democrats tomorrow. president biden is expected to be the focus of that meeting. abc news also offered former president trump a one on one interview, but he declined. jason miller, who is a senior adviser to the trump campaign, had this response to biden's events. in a newsmax interview, he said in part, we saw the speech earlier. those clips are bad. and now these additional

clips from abc are even worse. i don't understand what joe biden's team is doing. clearly, his weakness is speaking, and you can see the full interview with joe biden again tomorrow at 8 a.m. on this week with george stephanopoulos. in the south bay, the san jose fire department says it was inundated with hundreds of calls on the 4th of july. among them multiple fires near lake cunningham, which held a city sanctioned fireworks show. abc7 south bay reporter lauren martinez talked to a longtime advocate who works to stop illegal fireworks, and she says it's time for a change. >> 4th of july celebrations turned fiery across san jose, near the city's sanctioned show at lake cunningham. fires did break out on friday. you could see small, charred patches of grass. it's not clear yet if those fireworks are what caused the fire. >> it's bombs. people are

setting off bombs because it's fun. >> for years, suzanne maroney has been advocating to stop illegal fireworks in the city and even city run events. maroney says they send the wrong message. >> you model the behavior you want, and if you're going to explode things to celebrate, so are other people. >> before the fourth, the area city council member told us combating illegal fireworks was their goal with the lake cunningham show. >> by creating a hub and a safe place for people to come and enjoy fireworks, that's my hope that we will deter any illegal activities from happening. >> cal fire santa clara unit helped the san jose fire department respond to two fires. on the fourth. we spoke with a fire captain with sfpd at an incident they were responding to on friday afternoon at the goodwill silicon valley. the last 24 hours have been incredibly busy and we are very grateful to our neighbors. >> all of the surrounding agencies have sent us help. when we asked for it, the san jose fire department said between

june 1st to july 4th, 659 online reports and 311 calls were made about fireworks. >> there were 52 calls to sfpd and 21 citations were issued. all three of these totals were less than last year. >> it's a waste of resources because it causes all the pollution that we're giving all this lip service. so let's have more bicycle lanes. let's do this. let's cut down on driving, and then let's go explode things and fill the air with pollutants. >> maroney hopes the city will switch to using drones for future fourth celebrations. >> if we have a fireworks show, then everybody will have a place to go when they won't want to set them off here at home. i have never seen that working in san jose. >> lauren martinez, abc seven news. >> the sky was lit up in contra costa county with illegal fireworks for the july 4th holiday. investigators say that the fires linked to illegal fireworks will be looked into as

soon as possible. anthony hamilton says he and his family are lucky to be alive. he says they only had minutes to get out of his home as a wildfire raced up the hill near their house in antioch. it was likely started by illegal fireworks in the shopping plaza below. >> this is our house on the hillside. it's going up the hill. we're about to get burnt out. our home. me and my son. >> the two acre fire that burned near hamilton's house was the biggest in the area. the mayor says the fire will be investigated as arson. the penalty for arson in antioch includes a $10,000 fine and also a possible prison sentence. now, let's get a check of your forecast for this weekend with lisa. good morning. lisa. hey gloria. >> we have some fog, certainly at the coast. 55 socked in in certain spots while it's 75. in our inland valleys. so another couple of hours we will be near 100 inland. so today, the hottest day out of the next

by police. it happened at the 76 station on hegenberger road near interstate 80. that's right up the street from the airport. a crowd broke in and started ransacking the place around 430 friday morning. you could see the video right there. station manager sam maday counted dozens of people taking whatever they could, and he tells us that some of them were upset he wasn't letting them inside, only allowing window service. he's estimating $100,000 in damage and theft. >> shelves were ripped apart all the grocery items were torn or stepped on or vandalized. they broke the refrigerators. they robbed our atm, tore the atm apart, took everything in it. they tried to get the safe, but

it was more secure than anything else. so they could get through that. basically every single thing, even the tv maday said oakland police did not send an officer right when he called. >> in a statement. police said the crime was reported as having no suspects on scene, which means an officer wasn't called to the crime immediately. opd tells us an officer eventually responded and they are reviewing evidence. there have been a string of issues in the hegenberger area on wednesday, there was a shooting reported at a chevron gas station, and this is the same area where an in-n-out burger closed in march because of crime. in that area. abc news is following the story of the fbi raid of oakland mayor xiang tao's home, as well as the california waste solutions ceo and his son. the chronicle reports that oakland city attorney ordered some staff to preserve all documents related to the mayor's partner, andre jones. the email said it was related to a federal grand jury subpoena. now jones lives with

mayor tao in the home that was raided by the fbi. the mayor said that she's innocent of any crime implied by the search this morning, firefighters are working around the clock to put out several fires burning in the bay area and around the state. the french fire burning near yosemite has torn through more than 900 acres. containment is now up to 25. some evacuation orders in mariposa county have been lifted. highway 140 is back open this morning, restoring access to a major route into the national park. the cause of that fire is still under investigation in butte county, near oroville. all evacuation orders have been lifted for the thompson fire. it's 55% contained, nearly 3800 acres have burned since tuesday morning. the fire has destroyed 26 structures, and authorities say two firefighters have suffered heat related injuries. and now let's go to meteorologist lisa argen

tracking the forecast. and, lisa, i know we're talking about this heat. everybody's going to the coast for the nice weather. >> they might get surprised with a little fog, but it has been pretty. it has been very nice. the fog has cleared and we'll get the mixture of some fog and some sun today from half moon bay and pacifica, where you know the marine layer has been dense in some spots. so you have that to contend with early on, but it will thin out. and we're looking at perhaps some record warmth in our inland valleys as high pressure is trying to drift awa. but as it does, it's really expanding for a final day and we'll see temperatures well over 100. but look at this fog. it is really welcome relief for a sleeping weather. and for some folks in our inland valleys trying to get some relief at the coast, san jose. right now it is warm. it's been clear all morning long and temperatures have easily climbed through the 60s. 72 right now it is 64 redwood city, another 30 degrees

or so for you today, where you'll see 90 again, upper 50s san francisco. nice view of emeryville. so really the best part of the day, of course, right now in the morning, right where we've got 60s 70s, it's feeling warm in livermore at 74, it's in the low 60s. you had dense fog this morning in santa rosa. and what have you hear from our exploratorium camera and a friend there in the foreground. so looking at our heat wave for the next four days, we're on day five. so about ten days of this. but as we get into tomorrow, there will be some relief. and then tonight our red flag warning will expire at about 9:00. and then we're looking at temperatures at the coast quite pleasant with that mix of fog and sun. so as we look at santa cruz, look how gray that is. but we'll see numbers climb into the 70s and then eventually low 80s today. how about those mid 70s at stinson? even mid 60s bodega bay with some relatively light winds, a light sea breeze that will increase for tomorrow. so

compared to today, really not much of a breeze out there, maybe 1015 miles an hour. but as a trough sits off shore, we'll get that wind moving through the delta and that's going to knock a good 5 to 6 degrees off of our inland highs of today, which are going to be into the 105 107 range back to monday and tuesday. this is real relief right. this is what you would expect for the summer low 90s inland. and that nice summer spread that stays with us for the first couple of days of the week. and then wednesday will be another warm day with temperatures near 100, but not as warm as today. so prepare for that extreme heat again today we could see even some all time records up in redding, where they could go to 115 northern sacramento valley. very hot and our inland valleys at about 106 107. there fremont again at 90 looking at mid 90s in the south bay and you get those 70s if you're close to the bay shore.

so really nice there. the accuweather seven day forecast, last day of dangerous heat. now the heat starts to ease a little bit into your sunday. relief arrives monday and tuesday. it heats up again on wednesday, but that should be it. so we're not looking at a huge cooldown, but enough to take the edge off by tomorrow. gloria all right, that's good. >> thank you lisa. well, up next we had our first warning about faulty takata airbags a decade ago. so why are cars with the recalled bags still being sold? seven on your sid

market in the state, the tech hub ranks number one as the most competitive rental market in california and number six in the world. that's according to rent cafe. researchers find at least 12 people are competing for every residential unit in silicon valley. several reasons

are to blame for the rising competition, including the lack of new apartments and the growth in the tech market. and now to a seven on your side story uncovering the danger under too many dashboards, more than 6 million vehicles are still operating in the u.s. with dangerous recalled airbags. that's according to carfax. abc7 news i-team reporter melanie woodrow explains where some cars with recalls are still for sale. >> millions of vehicles travel across the bay area every day, and a percentage of them have recalled takata airbags. the national highway traffic safety administration has called it the largest and most complex safety recall in u.s. history. still, despite the nearly ten year old recall, millions of people are still at risk. patrick olson is editor in chief of carfax. >> there are more than 700,000 literal time bombs waiting in california for someone to get, and that's why we need to get these airbags out of these cars. >> our abc seven news data

analyst standardized the data to account for the number of registered vehicles per state in california, there are 2046 unfixed takata airbags per 100,000 registered vehicles. putting california somewhere in the middle. when it comes to states with the most unfixed takata airbags per 100,000 registered vehicles, the issue is the chemicals inside the inflator. >> normally, when your car gets hit, they combine and explode and fill the airbag, which protects the passenger, protects the driver. these airbags, though, when exposed over time to heat and humidity, develop moisture in those chemicals and that creates an explosion that far exceeds what everyone intended. that can turn the metal band around. the airbag into shrapnel, literally flying pieces of metal that go into the cabin of a car. >> while existing laws prohibit car dealers from selling a new car with an unfixed recall and prohibit rental companies from renting a car with an unfixed recall. there is no existing law for used car sellers. >> congress has not acted to enact that. >> searching the web, i found a

used car for sale in the bay area with an open recall for takata airbags. >> there's a recall on this car. >> this used car lot owner told me he didn't know before taking the car in question off the business's website, where it had been listed for sale, even though he wasn't doing anything wrong by selling it. did you know it had a recall on it? >> a lot of car had recall, nhtsa tells abc seven news it does not have authority to require used car dealerships to disclose an open recall to a buyer or potential buyer, the federal trade commission tells abc seven news the used car rule does not have a requirement that open recalls be disclosed, but it does require that dealers attach a buyer's guide to the vehicle, which includes information about where consumers can search for open recalls on a vehicle. >> that's why it's important to look at your vehicle history report. get a mechanic to check out our car before you buy it to make sure you understand everything that could be wrong with it. >> in march, three u.s. senators introduced the used car safety recall repair act, which, if passed, would require car dealers to repair any outstanding safety recalls in used cars prior to selling, leasing or loaning them to

to late morning hours, 58 downtown with 68 in redwood city, 72 in san jose. and you can see the breeze here from our roof. camera 63 santa rosa, upper 60s napa. and already in the low to mid 70s. so we are looking at a lot of sunshine. today is day five of our heat wave, but as we actually see more 90s next week, it won't be as hot for most of us, but we'll get a little bump up throughout the middle of the week. so the national weather service is going to extend our excessive heat warning into next wednesday. and we're looking at our red flag warning through about 9:00 tonight for the mountains of the north bay. the east bay, and also the santa cruz mountains and at the coast we've got fog, then some sun on the way. look at the forecast today for concord 107. you are in the low one hundreds. yesterday we get a break a little bit tomorrow and then we're looking at another warm day next week. but just one warm day and not as warm 95 in san jose today on the peninsula 80s and 90s for you downtown. nice day at 72 with that afternoon

sea breeze near 100 in santa rosa. 102 sonoma, calistoga 104. and on the bay shore here it's hot in castro valley 91 for you. you head inland. we've got low relative humidity. and this these temperatures are over what we saw yesterday. so 107 in concord, 106 in livermore. and tonight we'll be well into the 60s. overnight lows in our inland valleys. the accuweather seven day forecast. so a bit of relief tomorrow. about five six degrees of cooling. and then the beginning of next week looks very seasonal and slightly warmer.
