the hottest day of this entire heat wave in some spots. so many days of extreme heat takes a toll on the body. the san francisco chronicle is reporting at least 28 people have gone to local hospitals because of the temperatures, plus the threat of wildfire is still hanging over the bay area through tonight. we have team coverage tracking the heat wave and the wildfire risk. abc seven news weather anchor spencer christian leads us off. spencer. >> okay, dion, this heat wave is certainly unrelenting. and right now, as we take a look at current temperature readings, you can see just how hot this afternoon is. it was actually hotter a few minutes ago. you see now it's 114 at ukiah. it was 116 there a few minutes ago. and as we're going in the air, saw some locations like cloverdale and livermore, danville, fairfield, places that were up to about 110 dropping down to 106, 108. but obviously still uh- dangerously hot in all of these locations, inland and even around the bay shoreline. it's near 90 degrees in quite a

few locations, so you really do have to go all the way to the coast to find true cooling. so our heat alerts, our excessive heat warning is still in effect for the bay area until 11:00 11 p.m. that is next wednesday. our red flag warning for high fire danger is set to be to expire tonight at 9 p.m, but there's a possibility that could be extended as well. anyhow, high high fire concerns remain with us, even if this red flag warning expires, you can see that the wind is relatively light in most locations except close to the coast. and of course, that's where the coolest conditions are. relative humidity remains dangerously low everywhere around the bay area except locations right along the coastline. and as we look at the afternoon highs coming our way on monday, you can see a little bit of a easing of the heat on monday and tuesday, but wednesday and thursday we expect temperatures to bounce right back up to and above 100 degrees. i'll have the full forecast a little bit later dion. all right.

fill up for free. >> i think the hydration stations are great. i'm glad that they have them and that we can bring our bottles in to fill them up, as opposed to like paying for water. so i think this is fantastic. nice and cool. >> which is exactly what it was. >> exhibit halls are doubling as cooling centers with sweet ac today. >> i'm inside here. this feels really good. >> we saw lots of umbrellas and parasols on the move and shade tents where you can catch a nap or listen to music. we have water features all over the fairgrounds and in the exhibit hall, which i'm told just make people feel cool. now, cal fire says it's been a very busy fire season so far. about 3000 fires have burned, 140,000 acres across the state of california. this time last year, 2000 fires burned only 7800 acres. meantime, the marin county fair continues through tomorrow. where? yep, it is expected to be

5:18 pm
especially in our inland areas where it's about 3 to 5 degrees warmer than at this time yesterday. so let's take a closer look from mount tam. looking down onto the bay under sunny skies, 68 degrees here in san francisco right now, oakland stands at 76. we have mid 80s at hayward and redwood city, 93 at san jose and 63 at half moon bay. blue sky over the golden gate. there was some fog there earlier this afternoon, but it has burned away. it's 84 petaluma right now. 87 napa, santa rosa 95. and it's 105 at concord, 106 at livermore and 108 at fairfield. so you can see it is sizzling inland. these are our forecast headlines. heat wave continues into next week, especially in our inland areas. red flag warning for high fire danger is in effect through tonight, although that could be extended. it is cooler at the coast because of a mix of light, fog and sun this weekend. so scurry to the coast or hurry to the coast if you're looking for some relief. the excessive heat warning for the bay area remains in effect until 11 p.m. next wednesday, and once again, heat like this increases the risk of heat related illness. so bear

that in mind, please. red flag warning for high fire danger in effect until 9:00 tonight. for the hills and mountains of the bay area. and let's hope that expires. and we can have less concern about fire than we have right now. so during the overnight hours, we'll see the marine layer. it will be a little shallow, a little thin, but it'll push onshore and push locally across the bay. but by about 10:00 tomorrow morning or so it'll burn away. overnight lows will be generally in the low to mid 60s for much of the bay area, which is uncomfortably warm for overnight temperatures and mid to 50s low to mid 50s for locations near the coast and up in parts of the north bay. now let's take a look at these high temperatures for tomorrow. 65 at half moon bay, 72 here in san francisco, around the bay shoreline. apart from oakland, which will top out at about 80 degrees, many locations will be in the upper 80s to near 90. inland areas tomorrow, look for a 103 at livermore, 101 at antioch down in the south bay, 101 at morgan hill, north bay. highs well 99 over at fairfield, almost 100 and over in the other

parts of the north bay. 91 at napa 98, santa rosa 108 at lakeport 110 at ukiah. so you can see it's still going to be hot tomorrow, although the heat will ease just a little bit. so let me back away and give you a better look at the accuweather seven day forecast. so on monday we'll see gradual cooling beginning inland. highs will be mainly in the upper 90s down to mid 90s on tuesday. but then look at wednesday the heat starts to return and we'll see inland. highs around 100 degrees on wednesday about 102 on thursday, 100 on friday. so this this heat is truly unrelenting. not until next saturday does it look like we might see a downward trend in these temperatures, but it's going to be just uncomfortably and dangerously hot for at least another week. >> yeah, and chris was just saying palm springs is even hotter. >> 124 record there in the desert yesterday coming up in sports steph curry begins his quest for the gold. while the dubs tip off their summer porch
