[ laughter ] but the wheels are coming off everywhere. i can barely watch the news anymore because every story is starting to really stress me out. what's even worse is the anchors are just calmly reading the stories, oblivious to the fact that the world is on fire around them. i need a broadcaster that reports stories with the appropriate level of panic.

[ laughter ] >> seemed to be kind of a family business. my dad played. >> kathryn: yes. >> my brothers played. and i don't think it was ever a mission by my parents to raise football players. maybe that's why it ended up happening. he played for a long time in the nfl as a quarterback. but he tried to kind of raise normal kids, i think. but we love football. we grew up around it. it was always a fun sport. felt lucky to do it for a living for so long. >> kathryn: all brothers? >> i'm the middle child. we're big kids. my older brother cooper was 12 pounds 3 ounces at birth. [ laughter ] >> kathryn: mom! >> i was 12 pounds 1 ounce. eli was 10 pounds, we thought

[ laughter ] >> kathryn: are you one of us? >> no, no. >> kathryn: okay. >> do not insult acting with my commercials. >> kathryn: i beg to differ. they're pretty great. >> i'm good at reading teleprompters. i'm good at reading scripted lines. i can memorize lines because you memorize football plays. >> kathryn: yes. >> but -- i enjoyed doing them. football player, you take your helmet off, a show that you can laugh at yourself, that you don't take yourself too seriously. you grow up with two brothers, you better learn to laugh. >> kathryn: yep. >> nfl locker room, laugh at yourself, have thick skin. nobody hits you in the back during a commercial. [ laughter ] nobody talks about your mother like they do in certain stadiums. [ laughter ] more in the northeast, not going to name any names. [ laughter ] i love country music. i think you're probably referring to kenny chesney -- >> kathryn: yes. >> grew up a huge tennessee football fan. i met him in college. he actually sang at my wedding. we had a deal one time, kathryn, that he wanted me to get him on to a colts practice field to practice with the colts in an nfl practice. in return, he would let me go out on tour and be in the band during a concert, right? and i never could get him on the field with the colts. >> kathryn: right. >> the coaches just didn't understand that. >> kathryn: sure. >> why do we let this guy on the field? i was never -- >> kathryn: i was going to say, doesn't often -- >> yeah, he wouldn't have fit in out there on the field, let's just say that. he let me -- put me in the band, put a cowboy hat on me, a

strapped guitar, put me in "g," i kind of held "g" for 2 1/2 hours. [ laughter ] i can't play the guitar, but i know where "g is. i tell you, it's the most unbelievable view to watch a concert from the perspective of a band member. you're watching the crowd, they're all folks on him. he'd introduce they present that town. gave me a fake name. and on acoustic guitar. [ cheers and applause ] >> kathryn: and what, of course, captured me like early on was that -- i don't know who said it, but, you must open. >> most receivers are open, yes. >> kathryn: it was a good life lesson. there's something really profound about hearing that, then seeing all these gentlemen's lives. and their families. on and off the field. >> yeah. >> kathryn: with that -- with that availability. >> yeah, we really appreciate -- we followed five nfl receivers and tight ends this year. and they did, they let us come behind the ropes. but we feel like we're not a distraction. we're just trying to show people how hard it is to play receiver

in the nfl. how hard they practice. how much film they study. just as much as a quarterback. they get hit hard across the middle. and they pop right back up and go back and play the next play. so i think people will find it fascinating. i've always had a great appreciation for all the receivers i've played with. i'm not sure all the viewers know just how hard it is and what it takes. so we appreciate george and deebo and justin and devonte and amman raf kind of letting us go behind the ropes. it drops on netflix tonight, streams on netflix tonight, so you can watch it tonight. was like my own private sound machine. white noise machine. >> right. >> kathryn: i immediately would be like -- snoring, like the most relaxing. so, like, to be in it is where you feel the, like, stakes. the highest. >> no doubt. in football, it's different. other things, you can kind of go behind the ropes and be close to it. you can't have a 12th person in the huddle on the football field. you can have 11 out there. this is what we're trying to do, bring the viewer right there, they're on the field, they're on the sidelines, they're in the training room with them recovering after a physical game in the -- you know, icing their legs in the coal tub, whatever it may be. i find it fascinating just watching it, and i know what it's like. but it's -- i mean, for people watching. >> kathryn: yes. the sense of humor, the, like -- i -- i'm really invested in it. >> good. >> kathryn: to finish it. i think you guys are going to love it. [ cheers and applause ] pinching myself. peyton, how do you convince players to let themselves be followed all season from on the field to their family lives? >> it's a great question. i think it all started last year when we did a show called "quarterback" on netflix. we got mat trick mahomes, kurt cousins, marcus mariota. they took us ripped the roeps of

what it's like to play quarterback in the nfl. patrick mahomes wins the super bowl, wins mvp of the league. i told receivers, if you do this, you'll win a super bowl, and one of you will be mvp of the league, it's proven. [ applause ] that was very easy to do. we did a similar show with caitlin clark and camilla cardoza. both went to the national championship. i think when you do a show like that and people say, wow, it's not a distraction, you can still have a great year and document what i do behind the scenes. what i told patrick and kirk and marcus and all these receivers is, show your grandkids what it is you used to do, but also take the viewers behind the ropes on how hard it is to play receiver what it's like off the field, and everybody will be better for it. so i don't think anybody has regretted doing any of these shows so far. because they've all had good years at the same time. and people get to see what it's really like to play receiver. >> kathryn: i can only imagine, like, kids coming up as being able to watch this and feeling

[ cheers and applause ] >> sure, yeah. it's -- it's hard to believe, kathryn, we're in our fourth season, eli and i watch football from home, watch monday night football, and the viewer gets to sit there with us. like we're at a bar or we're on the couch, and we get to watch monday night football together. when the game is great, we talk about what's going on on the football field. when the game's maybe not so great, we have guests on that talk about why they love football or talk about something

going on in their life. we've had all kind of guests. president obama. snoop dogg. condoleezza rice. the common criteria is they all love football. that's a good thing. it's a good unifier, watching a football game together. the guests are on via zoom, right? so you get to see them in between commercials. there's a little more smoke coming out of snoop's zoom -- [ laughter ] -- than there is condoleezza rice's, right? >> kathryn: do you get contact high? >> doesn't matter, we all love football, we're on the same page. we're set to do season four. jimmy kimmel's been a guest. >> kathryn: oh my gosh. >> one of our great guests. he was interviewing me and eli, "no, jimmy, we get to interview you on this." >> kathryn: take a break, jimmy. >> we're excited about it. we had the jets, 49ers in our first game, monday night football. we still have a couple of white whale guests out there we're trying to do. i think we're persistent in asking them to be on the show, we just can't quite close them. larry david, flight he's a big football fan. >> kathryn: oh, yeah. >> we'd love to shame him into

[ applause ] two times a year. and i was a communications major. small classes. 50 students, 80 students. i love doing it. i've talked about public speaking about doing interviews. the students ask great questions. i care a lot about the university. easy "a" if you have my class, right? >> kathryn: oh, really? >> not a lot of homework, not a
