higher. >> but it's not just the west. philadelphia and d.c. could experience feel-like temperatures of 110 today. >> having a number gets people focused on wow, this invisible silent thing is really costing us money. >> and now a dollar amount on the cost of these sweltering temperatures, extreme heat events are blamed for $7.7 billion in losses over the last decade, according to a new report from the california department of insurance. and that's just one state. the report found millions in infrastructure costs due to heat. just this week, we saw bridget new york get stuck in the open position because heat expanded the steel and heat buckled. this state highway in washington state. the report also found power outages in the heat could cost up to $230 million in california alone, and the impact on worker productivity up to $210 million in losses per heat event. >> heat affects the human body are health. it slows us down
