55 with some fog, half moon bay, 56 san francisco, low 60s, hayward and redwood city with 67. in san jose and from our east bay hills. camera. we were socked in yesterday. notice a little bit of fog out there. 70 by the delta, 68 in livermore. and compared to yesterday, already 11 degrees warmer by the delta, seven degrees warmer in livermore and slightly cooler in novato. so your forecast today calls for some 60s and sunshine at the coast bayshore upper 80s to near 90. so much warmer for you today. and inland, about as hot or hotter. so we saw about 103 yesterday, maybe 105 107 today. so really hopefully you have some plans to stay indoors. cool hydrated and then a little relief is on the way tomorrow amanda. all right. >> thanks lisa. and we're going to take a live look at commute conditions from our overall map. you see that typical slowdown across the altamont pass. and i do want to take you up north

into napa, where we are tracking a three car crash. this is northbound 29 near highway 12. we know the right lane is blocked there. it's slowing things down to about 35mph. and then a look at drive time six minutes from highway four to walnut creek, 14 minutes to get from walnut creek to 580, and then tracy to dublin. that will take you 49 minutes. reggie. >> amanda. thank you. developing this morning, three people are dead and multiple others are hurt after a shooting at a home in alameda. this happened last night on kitty hawk road. this is near two schools. will c wood middle school and donald d lum elementary. abc7 news reporter gloria rodriguez is at that scene. and, gloria, i know you just talked with some neighbors. >> i did reggie, and, you know, neighbors tell me this is a family oriented neighborhood. and as you can imagine, they are just devastated that some of the victims are minors. police do have somebody in custody right now. we don't know that person's connection to the victims right now. you could see behind me that police continue to investigate. they've taped off

this area. they've been here all night long. here's what we know about what happened. alameda police department says three people were killed. and additional people are being treated at local hospitals. police say they got a call last night from someone saying their neighbor was shot here on kittyhawk road. they found the victim and multiple family members who had been shot, including minors. the three people died and additional family members are in hospitals. and police are telling us right now there is no threat to the public. we're working to learn more information about what exactly happened here. live in alameda. gloria rodriguez, abc seven news. >> thank you, gloria and australian ceo hurt during a trip to san francisco is improving. this morning. his company released a statement less than an hour ago about his condition. now he still is at the hospital with very serious injuries. and at this point, it's not entirely clear how he got them. colin bettles is the ceo of grain producers australi. michael mccormick is his former

coworker and friend, and he says bettles got to the city on july 4th that night, was staying at hotel garrett at seventh and mission. he was found around 1030 that night along market street in a semi-conscious state without his wallet or phone. he had a gash that required stitches down the back of his head and a broken eye socket. >> you'd think he'd be able to walk down, you know, a well-lit street, one of the busiest thoroughfares. in, you know, a city of with a population of close to a million people. and, you know, be okay. but, obviously for paul, colin, that wasn't the case. >> bettles was on a work trip in san francisco. police are looking for more information about what happened. new this morning, a new poll shows americans are in favor of biden stopping his reelection campaign overnight. this abc news washington post ipsos poll found two thirds of americans, including a majority of biden

supporters, say he should leave the race today. president biden will be facing the media as many alliances in his own party are shifting. amanda has more on the new divisions among democrats and kumasi. >> the first democratic senator came out yesterday saying he was in favor of biden stepping aside. now, the president will speak as his party struggles to fully get behind his campaign. he'll hold a solo news conference from the nato summit in washington, d.c. congressional democrats have mixed messaging on whether he should stay in the presidential race. speaker emerita nancy pelosi said yesterday she wants to restart the conversation with the president after the nato summit is over. abc news senior congressional correspondent rachel scott pressed pelosi to clarify. >> do you believe that him waiting so long to make this decision could harm the party? any comments in the hallway about the fate of our nation? >> okay. >> are you concerned whether or not he can win in november? i think he can win in november. do

you believe he should run for reelection? i'm not. >> am i speaking english to you? i'm not going to be making any statements about any of that right now in the hallway. >> that exchange now, actor george clooney is the latest major democratic donor to call for president biden to drop out, writing a searing op ed in the new york times, clooney writing, quote, we are not going to win in november with this president. >> on top of that, we won't win the house, and we're going to lose the senate. this isn't only my opinion. this is the opinion of every senator and congress member and governor that i've spoken with in private, every single one, irrespective of what he or she is saying publicly. that's the end of his quote. a source tells abc news senate democrats have scheduled a new meeting for this afternoon. the group is planning to meet with biden's senior advisers and his campaign chairwoman. back to you, reggie. >> thanks, amanda. the new abc news washington post ipsos poll found most democrats prefer

kamala harris if the president were to leave the race, governor newsom would be the second choice. there's another interesting thing that happens here. when you look at the polling, it indicates that in a hypothetical race between the vice president and former president trump, vp harris would have the edge. she has a 49 to 46% lead over trump. now, it's worth noting this is still within the margin of error with the republican national convention starting on monday, former president donald trump appears to be narrowing down his choices for running mate. >> in an interview with fox news radio, trump acknowledged the shortlist includes ohio senator jd vance, north dakota governor doug burgum and florida senator marco rubio. now, trump said, taking on rubio as a running mate would be a bit complicated. they both call florida home, and trump and rubio would need to forgo florida's 30 electors if they ran on the same ticket. abc news will be covering the republican national convention all next week. starting monday.

you can watch live coverage from milwaukee and expert analysis every weeknight starting at 7 p.m. right here on abc seven. >> state officials are warning everyone to be careful right now. the heat we've been experiencing has made for critically dry conditions. that means regular tasks like mowing the lawn can easily start a fire. governor newsom and other officials issued the warning yesterday during an update on wildfires burning across california. right now, there are 20 active fires, cal fire says more than 3500 wildfires have burned over 207,000 acres so far just this year, and that is about 500 wildfires, more than what we saw during the same time last year. governor newsom says climate change is a major factor. >> we say it all the time. we're getting a lot hotter experiencing unprecedented record heat. we take this mission very seriously. but the mission, again, we wanted to highlight today is the mission that you hear behind me with the helicopters that are moving. and it's remarkable investment of equipment unprecedented in

california's history. >> the governor says california has the largest fire suppression fleet in the country, and more resources are expected soon >> and we talked about the high temperatures in the upper elevations and the low relative humidity that still correct 90 degrees on top of mount tam, 2300ft 4% relative humidity, low clouds and fog, very sparse. it is socked in at the golden gate bridge, but it'll clear. and we're looking at the low cloud deck here. very scattered san francisco. gorgeous view. sutro tower camera 55 and fog. half moon bay 56, downtown. it's 59, in oakland with 67 in san jose. and from mount tam you can see how compressed that marine layer is. so it will evaporate. and we'll have mostly sunny skies and air quality. not as good as yesterday with a lighter sea breeze. 70 by the delta 52, petaluma. here's a look at some other upper elevation temperatures from the mid 80s lahonda mount mount diablo 86

and big rock ridge 89. so it is certainly warm and dry. upper levels even hotter today by about 3 or 4 degrees inland. mild, sunny, comfortable at the coast and then we get the weekend relief starting on saturday. more dramatic on sunday. so it's been a hot month and here we are right in the middle of our next heat wave. it will ease up a little bit tomorrow, but look how dry throughout the afternoon. the relative humidity gets down to about 10% in concord, 18% there in the north bay, so be prepared for upper 90s today. how about that 106 in morgan hill? kumasi thank you lisa. >> still to come adding a forever friend to your family. the east bay shelter is offering free pet adoptions through the end of the month. then a plane forced to abort its flight plans. one of the tires catches fire during takeoff, and governor newsom rescinding an offer to help fight crime in the east bay. because he says the da is not using extra resources

members were on board. thankfully, everybody was okay. oh, goodness. american airlines is saying that they were able to put everyone on another flight. happening today, governor gavin newsom will reveal a new effort to boost public safety in the east bay. he'll be holding a press conference with chp officials in just a few hours. and, amanda, that announcement is coming as there's new reports about some challenges. the governor's office is facing. apparently working with the alameda county da and kumasi politico reports the governor's office is accusing the office of alameda county da pamela price, of ignoring offers to send attorneys to help prosecute crimes. >> the governor's offer was first made back in february. politico got ahold of a letter sent by the governor's cabinet secretary to price his office. it reads in part, quote, despite our outreach, your office has yet to make use of these resources. that's the end of it. politico reports. the governor is now rescinding his offer and redeploying those attorneys to the california department of justice. we don't know why

price's office hasn't responded to the governor's office. politico asked, but hasn't heard back. and we've reached out this morning, but it's still very early for a response. this comes at a very sensitive time for da price. she's facing a recall campaign, accused of being too soft on crime, though supporters have argued she's doing the job the way she was elected to do it. governor newsom's office has been involved in the efforts to crack down on crime in alameda county, especially in oakland. he signed off on the installation of 500 high tech traffic cameras in march. they're meant to help law enforcement identify vehicles linked to crimes. as for the announcement expected today, it's happening at 10 a.m. we'll stream it live. if you have our abc seven bay area apps, we'll be sure to notify you as soon as it starts kumasi. >> thank you. amanda. oakland police and city council members are teaming up to address crime along the hegenberger corridor. yesterday, chief floyd mitchell and council member trevor reed met with the store manager of this gas station. you remember

air on a piece of web fabric that's less than an inch wide. that is what this estonian athlete, jan rustad, he made history as the first person to cross italy's strait of messina on foot, using a slackline high above the water. it took nearly three hours. the distance is longer than 30 soccer fields. he surpassed the previous longest slackline walk, but fell short of achieving a new world record because look, he fell right near the finish line. >> oh no, he got right back up again. >> he finished the walk where he spent more than six months preparing for this. well that work. i mean man. >> i know. >> my goodness, it's amazing. it really is. oh, six months. well, it looks nice out.

to see current numbers in the 60s for some of you. and temperatures in the 50s closer to the city where we have 55 half moon bay and some boats there, those boats floating on the water there from our east bay hills. camera a lot of fog yesterday in our inland valleys and right now it is shallow. it is set up along the coast. it should clear, but visibility reduced at the golden gate bridge 70 by the delta. it is 63 in concord. look how hot it's going to be today in concord. we should see the upper 80s. yesterday you were over 100 degrees. today 108 dropping off. tomorrow the sea breeze will kick up and then that free ac makes its way east to the caldecott tunnel. and we will enjoy cooling for the weekend. san jose, it's going to be warm. how about 98 today and then 93 tomorrow and then back towards where you should be for this time of year. so it's been, not too bad over the weekend and then as we get we had a bit of a

francisco's market street. the city is launching a new program that gives grants of up to 5000 bucks for artists to set up. shop on the sidewalk. it's called make it on market. it's part of market street arts initiative that aims to attract people to downtown. this joins the biscuit program, which pays local musicians to perform our market street. you've been wanting to add a furry friend to your life and now it could be a good time. it is empty the shelters month in antioch animal services is waiving pet adoption fees through the end of the month. they say they have 50 cats and dogs available for

adoption. they also offer free pet food to owners, along with free vaccines and microchip clinics. next to 630, the discount retail chain, with locations here in the bay area set to close. dozens of stores then trying to stop sideshows, the south bay agency is teaming up to keep these dangerous events from happening in the future.

>> not. >> oh, i got to go. i don't i don't even think i got a hot dog or a chicken bag. oh my. one time come up to my costco. all right. this heat wave is more like what we're used to. a three day event. we're peaking today. not like the one we saw earlier in july, which was seven days. our excessive heat warning in our inland valleys today. and boy, it is really going to verify where we're going to see temperatures up to 107 108. our advisory around the bay shore, 90s to near 100 in spots and our spare the air alert. so this air quality moderate could turn to poor at times because the fog is going to disappear. the free ac mother nature's air conditioner is going to burn back to the shoreline, and we're going to heat up quickly. 60 in redwood city, 59 in oakland. and then we've got the weight of that high pressure overhead. and that's going to allow for not a lot of mixing. putting that lid on the atmosphere. 52 petaluma, 68, in livermore. and 24 hours ago we were cooler. so we're starting out warmer. a head start on that warming in our

he did not kill his wife and unborn son. in 2002. the motion today deals with what lab will be conducting the testing, and which party will pay for it. >> bart police say a suspected kidnaping that happened tuesday night does not appear to be a random crime. this incident happened at the powell street bart station. officers say they got a call about a teenage girl being being taken from the station, and then forced into a car by a man. they checked surveillance video that confirmed what the witnesses told them. now this video, taken by an abc seven news viewer, shows san francisco police arresting the 37 year old suspect early yesterday morning. the person who took the video says this is the intersection of mcallister and larkin, which is right across from civic center plaza. now, bart police gave us an update on the investigation. >> there may be a potential relationship between the suspect and the victim. this doesn't appear to have been a random crime, and the person was not

our victim was not actually riding bart at the time of the incident. they had arrived in the area in a vehicle. >> the teenager was found yesterday morning and reunited with her family. >> sideshows are a regular problem here in the bay area. now. local police are teaming up to find a solution. san jose police shared images from the bay area working group's first meeting. the group was created to address the illegal street activity. multiple departments are involved, including san francisco, oakland, antioch, as well as the california highway patrol. san jose mayor matt mehan spoke at yesterday's meeting, and officers say this working group has more meetings planned. >> we are seeing firsthand the dangers of illegal fireworks, a man is in the hospital this morning with burns after being hit by a large firework on the 4th of july. you can see in the video his arm is wrapped up and injured, his legs are wrapped up because of the severity of his injuries. now the victim wants to remain anonymous, but says he was in the alviso area with his

wife when he saw the fireworks. >> we saw that they were working on pretty big things, right? so we started to go on the side to pass it and just just walk away. right. and then in a in one second, that was it. you know, we were on the floor burn. i just i just looked at my wife. her skin was falling from her legs. >> now this is video of the illegal fireworks. the victim says when they asked to call 911, people told them, quote, we don't do that around here. >> the one that is in santa clara county, 18 deaths since the start of this month are being linked to the intense heat. eight of those deaths were among people over the age of 65. most were found in their homes, but at least two were unhoused, charitable organizations have responded by handing out water and food to people experiencing homelessness, including those living in motor homes with no air conditioning. >> but people are just in a state right now. they're hungry,

they're extremely thirsty, and they're in a point where they can't just go and help themselves. it needs to come to them. they are just so depleted and really on the edge right now. >> the coroner says the cases are still being investigated and the exact number could change over the next few weeks. meanwhile, santa clara county is keeping its 20 cooling centers open for several more days as we deal with another spike in temperatures. >> officials are warning that some of the biggest risks to your health could actually be in the water. over the past few weeks, water worries have included algae blooms. the sun and the warmth are speeding up. the growth of those blooms and amanda residents in one east bay town are now looking for solutions and kumasi state water officials have issued a warning to stay out of the water after those algae blooms appeared in discovery bay in east contra costa county. >> the town's chamber of commerce says the algae bloom has been seen every summer for the past few years, but that recent heat wave, several of them, have made it happen

earlier than normal. they say it impacts the town not just environmentally, but also economically. with the warnings in place, they worry visitors will stay away this summer. town officials are working with local and state authorities to try to find permanent solutions. they've been using special hydrogen peroxide treatments, which have proven effective in killing the algae. but now it's a matter of getting funding and permits to keep it going. >> we can't keep kicking the can down the road anymore. it's time to buckle up. and we got to. we got to figure out how to get this done. >> state officials are investigating reports from some people who believe they got sick by the algae in discovery bay. they're urging people not to swim, boat or do any activities until further notice. of course, that's specifically inside that water. >> reggie kumasi amanda, thank you. still ahead, economists awaiting the latest report on inflation. what a spike in those numbers could mean. >> and you're looking live right now at the big board at the new york stock exchange. down about 65 points right now. another

for a bicycle network. sfmta is working on a plan, and this week it presented three possible scenarios for the north beach neighborhood. so one option includes bike lanes protected with permanent barriers. >> scenario a really presents a highly protected network. these are bike lanes that are protected with permanent barriers. and some of the trade offs. with a network like that is that there's a lot of parking removal. >> other options would have less impact on parking spots, but have less protection for cyclists. residents and merchants say their main concerns are the impact these changes could have on businesses in the area. more public meetings are being planned. officials hope to have a proposal for the citywide network finalized by early next year. >> ev charging stations are pretty much everywhere here in the bay area, and with them come those large fans to cool the equipment. >> but one station in san francisco is becoming an issue because of the noise. neighbors on clara street in soma say it's a constant nuisance. they say

for the past 6 to 9 months, the fans have been running and it's been hard to work or even sleep with the noise. what it sounds like. we tested the decibel reading outside of one residents apartment door and it read 70. to give you perspective, according to san francisco's noise and sound code, anything over 50 to 60db is considered more than the maximum acceptable limit for noise outside of a residential property. now, the company that owns the charging station said in a statement. while our charging station meets all the city permit requirements, we have tried several options to mitigate the complaint of one resident regarding fan noise. although the fans have been part of the building for a long time, the increase in 24 hour demand from ev drivers has increased their use. in the evening in the east bay, a group of homeowners in pleasanton is dealing with a

vole infestation and can't do much to solve it. >> voles are small rodents, kind of like rats or hamsters, one neighbor says. there are so many of them that they attract several different predators to their backyard. in fact, this video shows a herring eating one, not a herring. a bird eating one of those voles and a raccoon going for a late night snack. steve biro said he tried to get rid of them, but a law prevents him from using any poison. i think we meant a heron on an average day, i take out of my pool anywhere between 6 to 9 voles. >> every single day, the city tells abc seven news. >> it will not install any traps or toxic bait, but it is considering adding owl boxes to attract owls that feed on voles. >> a new report is casting doubt on food safety inspections in berkeley. >> the report by the city auditor found 45% of berkeley food facilities were not inspected last year. only 26% of reports of people getting sick from restaurant food were

investigated within the target of one day, the report cites understaffing among berkeley food inspectors as the main issue. food inspections were much better in alameda county, 97% of food facilities there were inspected at least once last year. >> now for your morning money report, the june inflation report is out. it shows inflation cooled for a third consecutive month. that's according to the bureau of labor statistics. consumer prices dropped 0.1% from may to june and are up about 3% compared to a year ago. falling gas prices, along with a drop in new and used car prices, helped usher in the overall decrease. food and rent prices went up. the new report could potentially pave the way for the fed to cut interest rates. now we take a live look at the new york stock exchange as trading gets underway this morning. we're down about three points. >> big lots is planning to close dozens of locations across the country by the end of the year. the company says 35 to 50 stores will be impacted, but the exact

locations haven't been revealed. we do have a number of big box stores here in the bay area, big lots says inflation is impacting their customers buying power. some reports show sales have dropped 10% in the past year. >> if you shop at costco, get ready to pay more. the retailer is raising its membership fees. basic memberships will increase by five bucks. so now it's $65. executive memberships will increase by $10. that's $130 total. it's the first price hike in seven years. annual fee is one of the biggest profit generating areas for costco. they help offset expenses to keep item prices down, and those changes go into effect september 1st. >> starting tonight. >> tonight, another san francisco landmark is going to be lit up with lasers. 25 lasers will be projecting from the roof of the fairmont hotel into grace cathedral's famous rose window. now, this is last year. the lights, the video of last year's lights, this is the last of the

>> maybe the bay bridge. because it doesn't get the love that the golden gate bridge does. >> that's true. i've kind of been talking a lot about the upper level temperatures. remember mount tam now it's at 91. it was 90. so we're looking at 10% relative humidity. it's really warm in the upper elevations. so the national weather service certainly on point with the excessive heat warning, high pressure anchored over california. it's not just northern california, southern california experiencing excessive heat as well. and we're looking at the advisory around the bay. not much of our marine layer left. it is 56 downtown, 55 and half moon bay, 67, in san jose. and you can see how foggy it is here. so with that shallow deck of low clouds, high pressure overhead, it's pushing down on the atmosphere. and that's why we have poor visibility. 70 by the delta 57 santa rosa. look at the other temperatures above about 2000ft. and everyone's in the mid to upper 80s. so it's warm. it's dry. now if we added an offshore flow to this recipe, then we would have a red flag warning,

but thankfully we don't. we've got the fog here. it has been a little bit into the north bay, but certainly not as extensive as it was yesterday into the east bay. so it continues to pull back throughout the day. limited sun, partly cloudy at the coast and then for your friday, it begins its trek into the north bay. you can see into the south bay, and that should allow for just a little bit of heat relief by your friday afternoon. but that advisory and excessive heat warning takes us through friday evening light sea breeze. today. not much of anything moving through the delta. so that's why we're going to see 108 109 by we by the time we get to tomorrow, we'll see a stronger onshore flow. some mother nature trying to help us out, bringing us down the cooling just slightly into friday, still very warm. 101 to 103. but we're back into the 70s and 60s notice marin is still hot. it's also still hot in santa clara, but by saturday, more cooling and then widespread cooling on sunday. so highs
