oakland, you can see the haze here over the city. so five degrees cooler, san francisco, oakland, san jose with mid 50s. right now it's cool in the north bay. it's clear and the fog is confined to the shoreline. and we'll look for just a moderate sea breeze. so looking at anywhere from two to 3 to 5 degrees warmer since yesterday's heat. and as we go through the next several hours, it's still warm by noontime, mid 90s inland, mid 70s around the bay and those 60s at the beaches. amanda. >> hi, lisa. yeah, we're tracking a deadly crash in the east bay. this is in the hercules and rodeo area. you can see a picture that caltrans posted. the last update was at 552. this is eastbound 80. the ramp to eastbound highway four that is currently shut down because of a crash that happened at around 430 this morning. it was originally a report of a fire, and then it turned out to be that solo crash. something to keep in mind. there is no current slowdown in that area. but of course, as i mentioned, that connector ramp still shut

down at this hour. and then we want to get to a commuter alert just to let you know, five minute delay on a's train one and then to the bay bridge toll plaza where metering lights are on. it'll take you 35 minutes to get from highway four into the city, back to the desk. >> thank you. happening this morning, the man accused of killing four people, including a child, at an alameda home, is facing a judge. a fifth person, also a child, was hurt and we are learning more about the suspect. abc seven news reporter lou rodriguez joining us live from alameda. and do we know how the injured child is doing? gloria >> well, kumasi at last check that child was in critical condition and we are reaching out to police to get the very latest on that child's condition. but we know that the neighbors here are really still trying to make sense of what happened. and they've set out this memorial in front of the home where the tragedy occurred. they've set up candles, flowers, even toys in memory of the family. and last night, over a

dozen friends and neighbors gathered for a vigil to remember them. police say that a father shot and killed four of his family members, including his in-laws, his wife and his six year old son. his other child, a one year old, was also shot and remains in critical condition. a coach who was involved with little league baseball on the island went to the vigil and tells us he left a baseball bat and also a game ball in memory of the six year old. >> i gave him a game ball because you every kid gets a game ball. you try as hard as you can to find a way for every kid to get a game ball, and he's never going to get that. >> and the suspect was arrested and is expected in court today. we are not naming him until he's formally charged. and as far as the family, we're told that they moved here recently. that's what neighbors are saying. and police are saying this all stemmed from a domestic incident. live in alameda. gloria rodriguez, abc seven news. >> thank you. gloria, if you are

in the east bay, you are likely going to see a flood of chp officers in the oakland area. a year after deploying the highway patrol to help crack down on crime, yesterday, the governor announced he's quadrupling the number of patrols at least 20 chp officers will now be in oakland seven days a week. >> we're going to move the california highway patrol from 42 shifts that they're currently operating in oakland. we're going to increase that fourfold. we're going to have 162 shifts starting next week. we're going to focus over the course of the next four months. >> the governor says the past year has been a success, but not everyone agrees. the anti-terror project believes there are better ways to deal with crime deterring crime, including investing in crime prevention programing. >> we want our youths to stop, engaging in these acts. we have to give them resources and something to do. and some guidance. right. there are programs that are proven that do those things. we're just underinvested in them.

>> according to the governor's office, so far, increased patrols have led to more than 500 arrests and the recovery of nearly 1200 stolen vehicles, oakland mayor tells. >> responding to recent questions about oakland's reported crime drop, the police department says overall crime is down 33. but according to the san francisco chronicle, that number was based on incomplete data from last year. the actual drop may be closer to 20. >> there has been no change in how the oakland police department has reported our weekly crime data since they began sharing it with the community in 2011. so this is opd's process in regards to being transparent. other cities, they actually are not this transparent. >> mayor tao went on to say, there are discrepancies if crimes are miscategorized when they are reported. she claims there's typically about a three month lag between a report being filed and that data being reflected in statistics. during this interview yesterday, mayor tao also commented on the fbi

raid of her home and three other locations in oakland. when abc7 news asked if there was any wrongdoing, here's what the mayor had to say. >> i am not the subject of this investigation. i have done nothing wrong, and i expect that there will be an opportunity to say more. but now isn't the time and that i am fully cooperating with the investigation. and look forward to the opportunity to vindicate myself. >> mayor tao maintains she's focused on doing her job and handling issues impacting the community. your voice, your vote. today, president biden goes back on the offensive as he continues to try to save his campaign. he's heading to michigan for a rally. this comes as even more democrats are calling for him to step aside, following his news conference last night, he did make a gaffe right at the top of the news conference, raising more concerns about his ability to win. abc news reporter christiane cordero is live in washington with how some are reacting. this morning. good morning. >> hey, reggie. good morning. it's a conversation happening both publicly and behind closed doors. abc news has learned senate democrats privately met

people into a river. only three people appeared to have survived this crash. authorities say the landslide early this morning was triggered by heavy rain. we're learning more about a new effort to tackle sideshows in the bay area to a growing problem that different local agencies are hoping to respond to better and faster. san jose police hosted the first meeting for the bay area working group on sideshows

this week. they say it's officers arrested seven people connected to a sideshow in june. six of them did not live within the city. san jose mayor matt mehan spoke at the event. >> something that i became aware of the extent to which these sideshows are connected to larger rings and organizations of people who are engaged in many different types of crime. >> others are weighing in with potential solutions. san mateo county supervisor david canepa suggests sanctioned areas for sideshows under certain conditions. today, some good news for ferry riders. officials are taking the next step in electrifying vessels. amanda, what's happening today that's bringing the prime minister of new zealand here? >> yeah, reggie, the prime minister of new zealand, will join state and local officials today to sign a design and supply agreement. now it comes after a new zealand electric ferry company called ev maritime agreed to help electrify the angel island. tiburon ferries, the california air resources board awarded a $24 million

grant in may to make it happen. the plan also includes expanding the dock for charging equipment and installing solar panels. the state is requiring all short distance ferries to be free of emissions by the end of 2025. also today, a celebration at the san francisco's ferry building. it's finally the launch of sea change, the world's first commercial passenger ferry powered 100% by hydrogen fuel cells. an alameda company helped build the 70 foot boat. it was first launched in 2021, but its launch into service was delayed because of the pandemic and not yet having approval for its propulsion technologies. and lastly, there is a pair of new san francisco bay ferry boats with some creative names. there's carl, named after the famous fog, of course, and the other is zalophus, which is the scientific name for sea lion. bay area students entered nearly 300 suggested names for the ferries and the public voted. they will join the fleet starting next year. back to you,

shoreline as high pressure continues to sink to the south of us and the east of us 67. in san jose, it's 60 in oakland, 63 in hayward and all that particulate matter just pushed at the surface here from that lid, that dome of heat that has been over the bay area for days. 70 in livermore, 52 petaluma. so wide ranging temperatures to start out, that's the way we'll finish again. but the triple digits will continue to be with us in the north bay. the east bay around morgan hill, los gatos, and then the cooling trend really for the weekend, ten degrees cooler as we get into saturday. and then even more cooling on sunday. and that will bring us back to average as we get into early next week. so check out the highs today. we're still going to be warm to hot. how about 100 in morgan hill with santa rosa upper 90s. so that's a couple degrees better. 100 for livermore and antioch with 102 in concord now across the bay. here we still have the bayshore heating up from the mid 80s in hayward, 90 in fremont,

crashed off the hawaiian island of kauai, kauai. one person died. the helicopter belonged to a tourism company. hikers reported seeing the helicopter crash into the water off the napali coast thursday afternoon. a heads up if you are an at&t customer. overnight, the company revealed nearly every customer's

call and text records from 2022 have been exposed in a data breach. the company is blaming an illegal download on a third party cloud platform, and they say they learned about this back in april. at&t is saying it will notify customers whose information was involved. the breach comes as researchers say 10 billion passwords have been leaked and what they're calling the largest password leak of all time, according to cybernews, old and new passwords from thousands of databases over the last 20 years were leaked on a hacking site. this could heighten the risk of credential stuffing attacks when hackers take information like passwords and try to use other people to use people's data on other websites, complaints against domestic airlines went up by nearly 29% last year. frontier airlines had the most complaints among all domestic airlines. frontier had nearly 33 complaints per 100,000 passengers. spirit airlines came in second, with almost half of

happened. we're standing in front of where? that the house where it happened. and you could see behind me. there's a memorial that's been set up here. and neighbors have placed flowers, candles, toys, stuffed animals and honor of that family. and last night, neighbors wiped tears and held hands as they gathered at the beach to remember the family killed. they say the tragedy has sent shock waves in the tight knit alameda community. police say that a father shot and killed four of his family members, including his six year old son, his wife and his in-laws, and his other child, a one year old was also shot and remains in critical condition. it happened on wednesday night on kitty hawk road. neighbor diane has been having a hard time with this. she knew the family. >> our kids play together, you know, it's i don't know how i'm going to tell my three year old when he asks where his friend is

>> and neighbors say the family moved to the home last november or december, a neighbor says the suspect spoke spanish pretty well and that the family killed was from el salvador. so the suspect is expected in court today. and of course, we'll have the very latest update on that for you live in alameda. gloria rodriguez, abc seven news. >> thanks, gloria. new developments in the case of an australian ceo who was found hurt on a san francisco street, the san francisco police department says it went through surveillance video and found no sign that colin bettles was attacked on july 4th. and despite an initial report that he was missing his phone and wallet, police now say he has both items with him at the hospital. it still isn't clear exactly what happened to bettles before he was found unconscious on market street this morning. >> we're learning a bit more about an apparent misunderstanding between the governor's office and the alameda county district attorney's office. governor newsom addressed the situation yesterday during a news conference where he was

announcing increased chp patrols in the east bay to help crack down on crime. so the misunderstanding stems from an offer the governor made earlier this year. he said he would dispatch attorneys from the state to help alameda county da pamela price prosecute drug crimes. this week, the governor rescinded that offer. his office says price hasn't been cooperating. >> i can only observe what i've observed. we extended a hand of partnership. unfortunately, it wasn't reciprocated. >> price had her own news conference yesterday. she says she never turned down that opportunity and claims her office was in the process of making it happen. >> there's no reason why we wouldn't jump at that. and the question was why we wouldn't jump at that opportunity. it's a process we have to prepare the mou, which i have, is i believe it's a lengthy document. it's very intensive and it was under review. >> price said several meetings were held over the last few months to discuss the offer

happening today. >> the man charged with murder for pushing a woman into an oncoming bart train is once again scheduled to be in court. this has been rescheduled several times since last week. the judge is waiting for a mental health evaluation of the 49 year old suspect. he's accused of pushing 74 year old corazon dandan into a train at the powell street bart station on july 1st. dandan hit her head and died. >> a judge denied bail for a man accused of planting a bomb in san jose and then calling police on himself. last wednesday, san jose police bomb squad safely detonated a device found behind a mental health resource center near ritter park and fox lane. ritter park drive in fox lane. the 56 year old is set to be back in court to enter a plea on july 29th. this morning, the vacaville police department is remembering one of their own, a motorcycle officer was killed after a passing car hit him while he was making a traffic stop. investigators say yesterday morning, the driver who hit officer matthew bowen,

tried to run from the scene, but bystanders stopped her. chp arrested her. they said she was under the influence of drugs. it's not clear if anyone else was hurt in the crash, but we know at least two other vehicles were involved. the vacaville police chief spoke about officer bowen and what he meant to the department. >> matt was a magnetic personality, >> somebody that always had a smile on his face, a positive attitude, loved his family, dearly loved this community. and because of that, we are all brokenhearted. >> officer bowen was with the force since last june. he previously worked for the concord police department. flags at the state capitol are being flown at half staff. >> if you live in west oakland, you could be eligible to receive a debit card to be used for transit to the live desk to explain how that works. >> yeah. kumasi >> excuse me. reggie. up to 1000 low income west oakland

residents and workers will get the debit cards. it's part of a universal basic mobility pilot program. the city says to be eligible, you must live or work in west oakland and earn less than the area median income of $103,000. a year. an eight person household can make up to $192,000 a year. to be eligible, the cards are loaded with $160. the money can be put on a clipper card to pay for a ride on bart, ac transit, amtrak scooters and other forms of public transportation. once you use up the $160, you can get an additional 160 by taking a second survey. now, the next opportunity to sign up for the debit cards is next sunday, july 21st at the west oakland farmers market. the west oakland transit improvements grant is funding the $400,000 project back to you at the desk. >> thank you. amanda. for the first time this year, part of california has returned to drought levels. northern parts of the state are dry. siskiyou county reached the moderate drought level. this marks the

morning we're learning. the company formerly known as twitter is reportedly trying to sublease its entire san francisco office. amanda is live with what this means about elon musk and potentially moving

another one of his companies out of the bay area. yeah. kumasi everyone is being really quiet about the future of x and its hundreds of employees in san francisco right now, but here's what we do know. >> according to the chronicle, real estate firm jll has been hired to market the entire 800,000 square foot complex at ninth and market streets. the listing hasn't hit the market yet, but the real estate company is advertising the space as, quote one large, one large headquarters. opportunity x occupies 460,000ft■!s of office space. the listing also includes an attached 330,000 square foot building on 10th street. x previously made that available for subleasing. this comes after several hiccups between elon musk and the city over the company's office use. you may remember musk ran into trouble after converting some of the space into bedrooms for employees. he also tried to install a giant x that's illuminated it was on the building without the proper permits. the city then took down that sign. now the company's

future plans for the neighborhood and the city are unclear at this time. the chronicle reached out to x, and the companies that own the buildings about the listing, but they did not get a response. back to you, kumasi. >> thanks, amanda for more. four months ago, a tire fell from a plane leaving sfo and it damaged a car below. we spoke with the woman whose car was totaled by that incident. here's abc seven news reporter melanie woodrow. >> give you a heads up the tower called. they think that you lost a tire on the takeoff. >> monday's incident of a tire falling off a united flight taking off from lax is all too familiar for lauren inthavong. the 23 year old's car was totaled in march after a united flight taking off from sfo also lost a tire. >> i wasn't shocked because the worst thing that i thought could happen was my car getting broken into. i didn't think, a scenario like that would even happen there in the van, works in a lounge at sfo and commutes from concord. >> since her car was totaled, she says she either borrows one or takes bart. >> i still don't have a car. >> united said in a statement at

the time it would work with the owners of damaged vehicles at sfo to ensure their needs were addressed, but inthavong says she didn't know how to reach out directly to the airline to report damage to her car. >> i just didn't really know how to. this was all, like, really new to me. >> in an emailed statement, a united spokesperson tells abc seven news quote, safety is our highest priority. we worked with everyone who reported damage to their vehicle, but we have not been contacted by the owner of this specific vehicle. united also shared a link where inthavong could file a claim with united's customer care team, which she says she'll do in the meantime, she says the family's insurance company did reimburse them for the kelley blue book value of the car. she's hoping united will help as well. >> i just want, you know, some kind of, like, compensation for ruining my car. >> the airline did not respond to our questions about a second incident of a tire falling off a flight during takeoff, something vong says she worries about every time she goes to work. >> what if it's another tire? just fell off? >> there were no reported injuries on the aircraft or on the ground in monday's incident. melanie woodrow, abc seven news.

to see you this morning. so what did you make of the performance last night? >> you know, i thought joe biden came out a lot stronger than he had looked, obviously, at the debate and in my opinion, even stronger than he looked in the george stephanopoulos, interview that he did on, on friday. but, you know, i don't think it changed the right minds because, three representatives have now come from the democratic party, have now come out and asked him to step down. since that, press conference ended. so it at least seems, in the immediate hours afterward, he was did not convince people he was trying to convince. >> so what would it take for him to actually step down? do you believe at this point? >> you know, i think one of the major factors is going to be the donors, it's, you know, important to him that members of the democratic party are asking him to step down. that's clearly going to have some influence. but i think donors are going to have a mega influence because whether we like it or not,

campaigns are expensive. you need to have a war chest of money to be able to compete. and if you've got folks like george clooney or the heirs to walmart and disney all saying they won't give you money, it's going to be really difficult to compete against someone like donald trump, who seems to have no problem fundraising. now, even though it seems like the analysis is pretty much what you said, that it was, you know, a at least a good performance last night. >> it did start off with him in the very first question. misnaming his own vice president and probably calling her the worst thing he could call her vice president trump. and that was after mistaking president zelensky with, again, the worst thing you could call him, president putin. so we are seeing these gaffes that are happening and they seem to be occurring more and more often on camera. you have nancy pelosi this week who has left the door wide open to allow democrats to criticize the president or even ask for him to step aside during

this campaign, george clooney apparently reportedly went to former president obama with the op ed in hand, and apparently got tacit permission to publish that in the new york times from the former president. so at this point, is it too late for president biden? >> it sure seems like it. i mean, all the critical members, many of whom you just named, are coming out against him either directly or indirectly. in the case of barack obama and nancy pelosi, but it seems like they're they are signaling very clearly to the public. they want biden to step down. and biden seems to be quite defiant in that he's going to stay in the race, regardless of whether or not he he leaves or not. i think all the down ballot representatives and senators, senators and other democrats are concerned that just the question of whether or not he will step down will be enough, to, to hurt their election chances, we saw some, pretty shocking polls out of new york, you know, a deep

blue state basically the california of the east coast and a lot of races are all of a sudden competitive and, a lot of democrats are saying that's a result of these questions about biden. >> the election is in november. we are here in july. how long can this conversation go on? when do you feel like a decision has to be made without significant or even more impact on these down ballot races? >> yeah, i think definitely by the convention, there's no way they could, go through the convention and then change their mind in late august or something like that, because even if they do change their mind and biden doesn't run, he's replaced by whoever, whether it be kamala harris or someone else, it's such a short time period to raise money to make a message, to get out there on the campaign. it would really set up whoever's going out there for failure. so i think if he is going to drop out, this is something that needs to be done immediately, and similarly, the questions of whether or not he needs to drop out need to be

in the north bay, a slightly in the mid to upper 90s region. so not in the triple digits in the south bay, but the weekend forecast is cooling. trend is trending cooler for everyone. and as we look at the early next week outlook, it is getting back to average. so the winds helping you out in the city in oakland with temperatures in the 70s low 70s downtown for san francisco, the sea breeze there over into oakland, maybe 80 still on the warm side. the bay shore. that's why we have the advisory and still with these 90s here, but the triple digits confined to morgan hill and los gatos. that's a hot day for you, of course. and on the peninsula 90, redwood city, you're in the low 90s yesterday, more 80s for mountain view, los altos, palo alto and downtown. a mixture of the fog there and some sun. so you certainly have that marine layer in place from the san mateo coast, even up into stinson 100, in sonoma. it was about 104 yesterday. there 98 for santa rosa. so that's a couple degrees better. and as we look at oakland you notice that
