of clouds from that system. it's 60 in hayward right now. look at that. 75 in los gatos. the upper elevations, mild to low 70s in our inland areas, 55 in sonoma, 52 and a lot of dense fog at the coast, anywhere from 2 to 8 degrees cooler. this morning. so we'll get into partly cloudy skies throughout the morning and afternoon hours. 70s upper 80s low 90s inland around the bay shore just in the low 70s for many of you. so it should be more comfortable all around the bay. and then at the coastline. don't look for any sun. we'll be socked in with the clouds 60s there, and we'll talk about how long the cooling trend lasts in a few minutes. stephanie. >> all right. lisa, thank you. new details now about the man accused of killing four of his family members in their alameda home wednesday night. shane killian was arraigned in court and is now being charged with several felonies. abc seven news reporter tim johns spoke with one of killian's coworkers, and he also looked into another incident in north carolina.

>> these photographs show shane killian being arraigned in an oakland courthouse friday afternoon. the 54 year old killian is charged with multiple felonies after he allegedly shot and killed his wife, his in-laws and his six year old son at their house in alameda wednesday night. he's also accused of shooting his one year old child, who remains in critical condition. michael saxby worked with killian at the martinez refinery. saxby tells me he and some of his colleagues showed up in court friday afternoon, and we saw him, but he never really looked at us, so he didn't acknowledge that we were there, saxby says. killian was at work on wednesday before the shootings took place. he says while he had a few personality quirks, no one thought he was capable of the things he's alleged to have done. >> nothing really happened on the job that anyone felt was something that would have just set a guy off to make him take off. >> killian does have a criminal past, however. police records show that back in 2011, he served 60 days in jail for misdemeanor assault on a police officer in north carolina. the incident involved a gun at a gas

station as well as a high speed chase with speeds up to 125 miles an hour. assistant chief ryan cunningham works at the police department in the city where that took place. >> for any law enforcement agency as a whole, this is a very serious and a dangerous situation, cunningham says. >> while he doesn't remember many specific details about killian, the news of the shootings in alameda has shocked his department in murphy, north carolina. >> it's just a tragedy and you know, you can only hope and pray for the families and the neighbors in that area. and the law enforcement that's involved, no matter the amount of training that we've had, doesn't prepare you to respond to an incident like this. >> a sense of disbelief also felt by saxby and his coworkers here in the bay area. >> two, we really didn't believe that what actually happened until we recognized his house and his vehicle, and we started putting two and two together. >> a motor for wednesday night shootings is still unclear. in alameda, tim johns abc seven news. >> fremont police are trying to

find a missing three year old girl whose father died yesterday. he was found in san francisco. authorities say ellie lorenzo was last seen thursday at 6 p.m. with her father in fremont. he was supposed to return the toddler to her mother yesterday, and you can see her picture here. she's three feet, six inches tall and weighs about 45 pounds. ellie's mother made this emotional plea. >> ellie, i love you so much. please please know looking for you. and we're going to find you. so please just hold on and everything will be okay. >> police are trying to retrace the father's footsteps and are looking at surveillance video. anyone with information on ellie's whereabouts is asked to call fremont police directly. developing news out of san francisco international airport. passengers scrambled to evacuate from an american airlines flight as smoke filled the cabin. it happened right before the plane took off for miami.

>> off the aircraft. do not get your belongings. >> you can hear the chaotic moments there. the smoke came from a laptop, battery that caught fire. everyone got off, but three people were injured. abc seven news reporter lauren martinez spoke to experts about what they say is a growing problem. go frantic moments captured from the san francisco international airport during an emergency evacuation. >> we got a mayday, mayday, mayday. there's a fire in the back of the aircraft. start the fire! rescue. >> that fire, official said came from a laptop battery inside a passenger's bag. yang yong chi boarded the miami bound flight with his family around one friday afternoon. >> when we got in the back of the plane, we already started to smell something that smelled like burnt cables. >> yang kai was seated next to his father. the laptop belonged to the passenger sitting behind

them. >> it was just like a massive flame out of nowhere. >> the american airlines flight crew reported a fire in the cabin. passengers used emergency slides and the jetbridge to exit go back, go forward. yankee took this two minute and 33 second long video of the evacuation that didn't go as fast as he hoped. >> oh my god, so many people took their bags. so many people just took their bags out of the overhead compartment. i was also screaming at one point, just leave your bags and get out. >> sfo authorities said three people were injured while evacuating the plane. we spoke with aviation analyst john nance. >> it's also extremely serious to call for an emergency evacuation because we're going to hurt a few people, not usually seriously on a smaller airplane, but still people go down slides the wrong way. >> sky seven captured the moment officials dipped the laptop in a bin of water when it comes to lithium battery fires on airlines, when former pilot and

now consultant said it happens more than we think. >> the faa says that it's a it occurs about once a week and there's a 42% increase in these incidents in the last five years, probably because everyone has electronic devices. >> american airlines issued a statement, we thank our crew members for their professionalism and apologize to our customers for the inconvenience. yang kai was relieved the fire didn't break out during the six hour flight. >> i mean, i'm feeling great. i mean, i'm alive. that's probably the best thing that i could have happened today. >> this was his first trip to the u.s. and a memorable one. >> we still have four more days. i don't know what what can go wrong at this point, but to finish it like that, it's kind of crazy in the south bay. >> lauren martinez, abc seven news and the east bay. now, two fires in pittsburg are being investigated as a possible arson case. one of the fires started yesterday at stoneman park in

effort to stop the sideshows that keep happening across the city. residents near california and divisadero streets are hoping speed bumps will deter those sideshows. abc seven news reporter luz pena spoke with people who have been waiting for a solution for years now. reporter >> stunt driving or sideshows is happening across the bay area. just three weeks ago, traffic on the bay bridge came to a stop because of a sideshow overnight. a scene residents on california and divisadero streets are familiar with. this is not a bridge, but the tire marks tell a story of a neighborhood that has been crying out for help. >> all the cars and bikes running around at like 1 a.m. 2 a.m. wake everyone up after multiple years waiting for a solution. >> this week the city installed speed bumps, hoping this will stop the sideshows that torment this neighborhood. this worker,

who did not want to be identified, said they constantly come back to work the morning after a sideshow to graffiti on their walls. >> the first thing you can see, because you have to cross the streets. the walls where i work vandalized. >> they're hoping the speed bumps will make a difference. >> i'm a fan. if it's going to stop these sideshows in 2020, supervisor ahsha safai introduced legislation to combat sideshows in san francisco. >> it allowed sfpd to impound vehicles for 14 days after the first offense. after the second offense and even stronger penalty. >> you're involved in stunt driving in san francisco. we're taking your car for 30 days. >> our abc7 news data team looked into the latest incident reports and found that since january, there have been 24 stunt driving incidents reported in the city and 11 just last month, according to supervisor safai, not many cars have been impounded. multiple sideshows in san francisco this year and only

five cars have been impounded. >> only five to date. and last year in 2023, only six. >> if this legislation is not stopping them, then what can? we spoke to oakland council member noel gallo. oakland has been fighting sideshows for years, so what is working for them in the neighborhoods, >> the planter boxes, cement boxes, the trees that neighbors have planning does deter the sideshows from coming into our neighborhood streets. >> his message to san francisco. >> you know, it's worth the try. >> luz pena, abc seven news. >> supervisor safai says he's concerned speed bumps will move. sideshows to another san francisco neighborhood and not actually fix the problem. he is urging san francisco police to enforce that legislation in the east bay. now, the point molate property will be sold to the east bay regional park district. the 80 acre former navy site is located on the western shore of richmond. this $40 million deal

puts the site on track to becoming a parkland. most of the money will come from a state grant. half of those proceeds will go to a tribe that had an agreement to develop a casino there. the decision comes from new city council members. they decided to cut losses on several plans and not spend millions of dollars on new development. cupertino is working with vallco developers to waive $77 million in fees. it will help propel the city's largest ever housing development forward. our media partners, the mercury news reports the developers will pay more than $10 million to fund infrastructure projects, as well as $32 million in other fees. the rise development will be at the former site of the shopping mall. it includes nearly 2700 housing units. nearly 900 of those would be affordable to lower income families. the deal is expected to be finalized at next tuesday's. city council

meeting. for the first time ever, cannabis is on sale legally at a state fair in the u.s. the historic moment was caught on video at the california state fair in sacramento. you can eat it, drink it or smoke it, and organizers have been working for years to make that happen. a cannabis exhibit is recognized in the fair's golden bear agriculture awards. they say california has been a pioneer in cannabis cultivation, and it's time to recognize one of our premier crops. now to a big unveiling in san francisco. we got a sneak peek at the zero emissions passenger ferry that will cruise through the bay. you're looking at sea change. it's the world's first commercial passenger ferry, powered 100% by zero emission hydrogen fuel cells. the 70 foot catamaran fits up to 75 people. the state is requiring all short distance ferries to be emissions free by the end of 2025. >> it's just appropriate that

san francisco, which is a leader in so many things and especially when it comes to the environment, is a leader in making sure that ferries become clean, because i think that was the one criticism of water transit. it was that it was polluting. >> starting july 19th, sea change will run for free for six months, so you can check it out. that's not the only change coming. the angel island tiburon ferry company has also signed an agreement with a company from new zealand. it will design and build a new vessel as the company prepares to convert its boat fleet to fully electric. happening today, the stadium style catamaran race called sailgp, is set to carve the choppy bay waters of san francisco. it's the series 14th and final event with $2 million in prize money at stake. the f50 foiling catamaran is the first boat to hit 50 knots, or

57.5mph, during a race. tickets are available, including waterfront seats at sailgp.com and hopefully the breeze works in their favor today. speaking of, let's check in with lisa on what to expect today. it's always so pretty, lisa to see the boats out on the water, but when you're on them during a race, a whole different story. oh yes, for sure. >> and today's going to be one of those very typical san francisco days, very breezy. and we'll have the cloud cover. they did have some sunshine for us part of the week when they were out there, and we are looking at a big change as our cooldown certainly underway as we look at live doppler seven right now, you'll notice the lightning strikes to the south and east of us, and there is a weak system that is bringing up the cloud cover. not any rain, but a little bit of instability instability there. and so that always is something we don't like to see, because that could certainly initiate a fire. but we also are looking at the cooling, cooling trend. but you know, we are looking at the

warmer numbers inland in the upper elevation. so you'll see that right here where we have 70 degrees in livermore, 71 in danville and brentwood, temperatures elsewhere where you've had the onshore flow. and that marine layer back into the 50s. so it's comfortable for sure. oakland, 60, in hayward. but 61 palo alto. so some of the milder numbers out there. but with that low cloud deck building, we've got dense fog at the coast. so if you're up there at any time throughout the day, fog is really not going to clear even some mist and drizzle at times. that's going to be the trend for the next several days. the cooling trend continues as we get through today and tomorrow. the cloud cover today, with that system moving up from the south and near average temperatures as we get into the week ahead. so not only will it be more like what we're used to, but we'll look for temperatures to sort of stabilize for the time being. here's a look at the upper level smoke. now we've got those southerly winds. and so

that is going to allow for this haze to continue to drift up into the bay area. so with the onshore flow throughout the rest of the afternoon, it does improve. and we'll continue to see not only that cloud cover move out of the way. the high clouds, but the low clouds as well, meaning sun sunday is your sunnier day. here's a look right now and you'll notice that we're socked in with the clouds at the coast. those mid-level clouds. and then throughout the afternoon, mostly cloudy to partly cloudy. then we get into your sunday morning and we still have the cloud cover. then it's banked up along the coast and we'll see a sunnier afternoon. here's a look at the winds. you know, they always play a factor for sure. and you'll notice that through the delta this morning they're 31 miles an hour there. continue to be kind of breezy to gusty there throughout the day today and then tomorrow as well. the source of our cooling for sure. and as we look at the highs in our inland valleys, upper 80s very pleasant. the next several days, morning fog, afternoon sun. and then it looks like we're going to get into a

having gone through the primaries and proving themselves. the fact of the matter is that biden went through the primaries and he was not challenged. and there was opportunity after opportunity for anybody to do so. now, going forward, going forward, we have a president who has proven that he can govern. >> on cnn, representative garamendi called for an end to the infighting within the democratic party. a new poll shows the race is still incredibly close. take a look at this. the marist national poll survey found 50% of voters say if the election happened today, they'd vote for president biden. the same percentage also said they would vote for vice president kamala harris or governor gavin newsom. several other polls over the last two weeks had president trump leading biden by up to three points, nearly 50,000 people are expected to attend the republican national convention in milwaukee on monday. almost 2500 delegates will also be at

the four day event. the delegates will choose the presidential and vice presidential nominees for the party. former president donald trump is expected to announce his vice presidential pick at this convention. melania trump will reportedly attend, making a rare public appearance with her husband. it was a emotional day for alec baldwin in a new mexico courtroom, as the case against him was dismissed. the actor cried as the judge brought a sudden end to the involuntary manslaughter trial. the case was dismissed with prejudice. that means these charges cannot be filed again, the judge said. the decision was based on the misconduct of police and prosecutors over the withholding of evidence from the defense. >> did everything humanly possible to bring justice uh- to helena and to her family and we're proud of the work that we did. again, we disagree with the court's decision, but we have to respect it. >> baldwin was charged in the

2021 shooting death of cinematographer helena hutchins on the set of the film rust closer to home, now vacaville police officer matthew bowen is being remembered as a funny, strong leader. he was hit and killed by a woman accused of driving under the influence of drugs on thursday, according to investigators, bowen's motorcycle was hit from behind while he was conducting a traffic stop at leisure town road and orange drive. the driver faces homicide and, driving under the influence charges. bowen joined vacaville pd in june of last year, previously serving in concord, officer daniel gallegos worked with bowen there. he says they joined the force around the same time. >> this job isn't easy. the things we have to kind of go through on a daily basis, the things we see and encounter, it's always good to have somebody there alongside you that has, you know, a positive outlook and is always in that

good mood that can bring people up in dark times and he was always the one to kind of do that. >> officer bowen was 32 years old. he is survived by his wife and two young sons. a teenager who stabbed a brentwood police officer last october will spend the next six years in juvenile hall. that's the maximum allowed by state law. on my this is video of the incident as the then 16 year old strikes the officer, another officer quickly approached and ordered the teen to drop the knife. a short time later, a bystander tackles the young man. brentwood police say the officer has recovered after suffering life threatening injuries. prosecutors in san francisco announced charges against the man accused of kidnaping a teenage girl from the powell street, bart station. police say he pulled a girl out

excuse is that? >> steph is so scared of charle. he went all the way to abu dhabi to avoid facing him. that's a wrap on morning sports. have a great weekend, everybody. i'm larry beil. >> thanks, larry. well the giants play the minnesota twins here at home today. first pitch is at 415. how's it looking around then, lisa. >> well you know, we'll have a good deal of cloud cover and 60s, mid 60s that south wind up to about 20 miles an hour. look at the lightning here. dry lightning now not any rain associated with this. so if this sparks any fires, that is always the concern because the brush always so dry. it's not going to reach it up to the bay area. but we are looking at the cloud cover from that system. and that's also allowing a robust marine layer. this is the view with all the low clouds. we had a better view a minute ago, but that's what happens when the sun comes up. things change quickly. we are looking at the current numbers, which are certainly

cooling off. 55 san francisco. it is 5658. in oakland was 60. in hayward, mid 50s, half moon bay, some very dense fog at the shoreline. so from mount tam you can see that we're looking at the mid and high level clouds here. 60s by the delta that's south wind up to 31 miles an hour right now. and look how mild it is. from concord to livermore, 65 to 70. there's a look at san jose with the clouds, dense fog at the coast. the marine layer is back. it's deeper. and that it's going to be the source of our cooling trend over the weekend. and then a steady, comfortable near average forecast as we get into the week ahead. there are some changes, though. by the end of the workweek, look at all the clouds as we put this in motion throughout the next several hours. throughout the afternoon, mostly to partly cloudy skies. because the clouds continue to stream up on those surface south winds. and as we look towards sunday morning, still about the same, some mist and drizzle, but by the afternoon they get banked up along the coast and we're into a mostly sunny day with temperatures where more in line

where they should be. so those that southerly flow allowing for the atmosphere to be pretty hazy out there. we do have good air quality for most of us, moderate at times, but as we go through the day, you'll notice how the south winds and the sea breeze continue to push the haze out of the bay area. the winds, they will be robust anywhere from 15 to 25 miles an hour here downtown and looking at the next several days and boy, it looks pretty benign, right? with mid 80s today in the south bay. lower 80s for the rest of the weekend into early next week. looks like we'll get a bump up in the temperatures as we head towards next weekend. so that could be another uh- heat wave, but it's a little too soon to tell. but just keep that in mind. if you're planning for anything for next weekend. 73 today in oakland, look for mid 60s for you in san francisco, upper 70s palo alto with upper 80s in san jose, morgan hill going from triple digits to 91 today, 92 in concord and low to mid 80s up in the north bay. so
