putting two and two together. >> now, at nine, shock and disbelief. that's the reaction from a coworker of the man accused of killing his family in alameda. the suspect appearing before a judge for the first time. good morning everybody. it's saturday, july 13th. let's get right to your forecast. lisa is here. and cooler days ahead. yes that's right. >> although we do have a heat advisory still for the upper elevations of the north bay, the east bay hills and the santa clara hills. so that's where the temperatures are still warm through 9:00 tonight. heat related illnesses, still a possibility. but as you look at live doppler, seven, check out the moisture the lightning strikes moving up from the south. we don't have that in our forecast. perhaps the sierra nevada, some dry lightning, but look at all the cloud cover we have and that's due to that system. the low clouds off the coast. you can see the cloudy peninsula here. so much cooler today. it felt the cooling yesterday. 55 downtown upper 60s in san jose and a roof camera with the clouds and the breeze.

65 in concord. we will be looking at the 24 hour temperature change here. pretty dramatic inland ten degrees cooler, five degrees cooler in san jose. upper 80s today for most of you to near 90 and some 70s. barely around the bay shore. and a lot of clouds at the coast. stephanie. >> lisa. thank you. new details about the man accused of killing four of his family members in their alameda home wednesday night. shane killian was arraigned in court and is currently charged with several felonies. abc seven news reporter tim john spoke with one of killian's coworkers, and he also looked into another incident in north carolina. pienta. >> these photographs show shane killian being arraigned in an oakland courthouse friday afternoon. the 54 year old killian is charged with multiple felonies after he allegedly shot and killed his wife, his in-laws and his six year old son at their house in alameda wednesday night. he's also accused of shooting his one year old child, who remains in critical condition. michael saxby worked with killian at the martinez refinery. saxby tells me he and

some of his colleagues showed up in court friday afternoon. >> we saw him, but he never really looked at us, so he didn't acknowledge that we were there. >> saxby says killian was at work on wednesday before the shootings took place. he says while he had a few personality quirks, no one thought he was capable of the things he's alleged to have done. >> nothing really happened on the job that anyone felt was something that would have just set a guy off to make him take off, killian does have a criminal past, however. >> police records show that back in 2011, he served 60 days in jail for misdemeanor assault on a police officer in north carolina. the incident involved a gun at a gas station as well as a high speed chase with speeds up to 125 miles an hour. assistant chief ryan cunningham works at the police department in the city where that took place. >> for any law enforcement agency as a whole, this is a very serious and a dangerous situation, cunningham says. >> while he doesn't remember many specific details about killian, the news of the shootings in alameda has shocked his department in murphy, north

carolina. >> it's just the tragedy, and, you know, you can only hope and pray for the families and the neighbors in that area. and the law enforcement that's involved, no matter the amount of training that we've had, doesn't prepare you to respond to an incident like this. >> a sense of disbelief also felt by saxby and his coworkers here in the bay area. >> two, we really didn't believe that what actually happened until we recognized his house and his vehicle and we started putting two and two together. >> a motor for wednesday night shootings is still unclear. in alameda, tim jones abc seven news if you're in the east bay, you are about to see a flood of chp officers in the oakland area. >> a year after deploying the highway patrol to help crack down on crime, yesterday, the governor announced he's quadrupling the number of patrols at least 20 chp officers will now be in oakland. seven days a week, according to the governor's office. so far, the increased patrols led to over 500 arrests and the recovery of nearly 1200 stolen vehicles.

fremont police are trying to find a missing three year old girl whose father died yesterday. he was found in san francisco. authorities say ellie lorenzo was last seen thursday at 6 p.m. with her father in fremont. he return the toddler to her mother yesterday. and you see her picture here? she's three feet, six inches tall and weighs about 45 pounds. ellie's mom made this emotional plea. >> ellie, i love you so much. please please know that we're looking for you and we're going to find you. so please just hold on and everything will be okay. >> police are trying to retrace the father's steps and are currently looking at surveillance video. anyone with information on ellie's whereabouts is asked to call fremont police directly. panic aboard an american airlines flight after a fire started in

the plane's cabin yesterday. the plane was at san francisco international airport when the fire started. passengers were forced to evacuate using slides and the jet bridge. >> oh, my god, so many people took the bags. so many people just took the bags out of the overhead compartment. i was also screaming at one point, just leave your bags and get out. >> frantic moments. the fire was caused by a laptop, battery inside a passenger's bag. according to the federal aviation administration, fires from lithium batteries on planes have increased by 43% over the past five years. american airlines apologized for the incident and thanked the crew members for their professionalism. in the east bay now, two fires in pittsburg are being investigated as a possible arson case. one of the fires started yesterday at stoneman park in the area of bailey and leland roads. minutes later, a second fire sparked about a half

mile away. police detained one suspect. the first fire started at the same location where another fire burned back on june ninth. across the country, now, nearly 50,000 people are expected to attend the republican national convention in milwaukee on monday. almost 2500 delegates will also be at the four day event. the delegates will choose the presidential and vice presidential nominees for the party. former president donald trump is expected to announce his vice presidential pick at the convention. melania trump will reportedly attend, making a rare public appearance with her husband. a new poll shows the race is still incredibly close. a national poll survey found 50% of voters say if the election happened today, they'd vote for president biden. the same percentage also said they would vote for vice president kamala harris or governor gavin newsom. several other polls over the last two weeks had president trump leading biden by up to

courtroom, as the case against him was dismissed. the actor cried as the judge brought a sudden end to the involuntary manslaughter trial. the case was dismissed with prejudice, which means these charges cannot be filed again. the judge also said the decision was based on the misconduct of police and prosecutors over the withholding of evidence from the defense. >> we did everything humanly possible to bring justice, uh- to helena and to her family, and we're proud of the work that we did. again, we disagree with the court's decision, but we have to respect it. >> 2021 shooting death of cinematographer halyna hutchins on the set of the film rust. closer to home now, vacaville police officer matthew bowen is being remembered as a funny, strong leader. this morning he was hit and killed by a woman accused of driving under the influence of drugs on thursday. according to investigators, bowen's motorcycle was hit from

behind while he was conducting a traffic stop at leisure town road in orange drive. the driver faces homicide and dui charges. bowen joined vacaville pd in june of last year, previously serving in concord. officer daniel gallegos worked with bowen there and he says they joined the force around the same time. >> this job isn't easy. the things we have to kind of go through on a daily basis, the things we see and encounter. it's always good to have somebody there alongside you that has, you know, a positive outlook and is always in that good mood that can bring people up in dark times. and he was always the one to kind of do that. >> officer bowen was 32 years old. he is survived by his wife and two young sons. our thoughts are with the family. san francisco residents are hopeful for a solution that will deter sideshows from their neighborhoods. after several years of waiting this week, the city installed speed bumps in their intersections, legislation that would impound cars involved

in sideshows was passed in 2020. according to officials, very few cars have actually been impounded. san francisco supervisor asha safai says that's due to a lack of resources since january, there have been 24 sideshows across the city. well, happening today, the stadium style catamaran race called sailgp is set to carve the choppy bay waters of san francisco. it's the series 14th and final event with $2 million in prize money at stake. the f50 foiling catamaran is the first boat to hit 50 knots, or 57.5mph, during a race. tickets are still available, including waterfront seats at sailgp, dot com. hopefully the breeze works in their favor today. let's check in with lisa on how conditions are outside. >> yeah, we are back to the breeze. >> the cloud cover and unfortunately, the possibility of dry lightning in parts of california. not a great chance here, but since that high has

moved off, we've got the clockwise flow around it to the south of us. and this is that subtropical moisture that is moving up from the south. so always a concern. we've got the vista fire, the lake fire, only to name a few to the south of us. they will be impacting us with a southerly flow, allowing for some of that haze to continue into the bay area. so we've got the cloud cover from the low clouds and then high and mid-level clouds with a shift from that area of high pressure. so that kept a lid on the atmosphere, kept the heat trapped and the pollutants trapped right now, at 63 in hayward, 69 in redwood city. and looking at some sunshine here, the shark tank, we will look for temperatures in the low to mid 80s today for parts of the south bay. so you had triple digits yesterday around morgan hill, los altos, the hills there, very warm spot. right now it's 72 in livermore, but upper elevations went from the 80s and 90s to the 70s. and seconds. so certainly making an of making its mark. the cooler air in the upper

elevations. not quite yet. we still have the advisory for the upper elevations for our heat, which we will certainly see today at mount tam mount diablo temperatures in the 80s again, but at the surface, much, much cooler. you felt that yesterday, the dense fog at the coast and we'll have the cooling trend not only continue today, but into your sunday and into next week as well. we have changes at the end of next week, but overall temperatures trending down towards average. here's a look at all that cloud cover it tries to thin out throughout the afternoon, and it will, but we'll see. partly to mostly cloudy skies at times. and then your sunday is looking sunnier, but not at the coast. we'll have a lot of fog there. here's a look at that southerly flow at the surface, allowing for the upper level smoke. here. look at the oranges. the bright color indicates the haze and as we get into an onshore flow, a stronger one, we'll begin to see the atmosphere clean out and have better air quality. there's a look at the sea breeze, that delta breeze already up towards about 30 miles an hour over that

today. and then for your sunday, just as strong. and so that is really putting us in a typical summertime pattern. here's a look at midweek. we'll be in the 80s and 90s. so very pleasant with temperatures in the 60s. the clouds at the coast each and every morning into thursday. we get slightly warmer some mid 90s. we're back into some upper 80s in the north bay to near 90. this will be the hottest day of the week on friday where we get into the upper 90s. it looks like perhaps that high pressure ridge that went away might be coming back the end of the week. 80 today in fremont. that's a good 10 degrees drop or upper 70s in san rafael, low 80s in san jose to the mid 80s and some low 90s inland. here's a look at your accuweather seven day forecast. the cooling trend continues today. partly cloudy and into your sunday. as we get into monday. little change. we have that wide range of temperatures near average through the middle of the week. and then we begin a warming trend. it's a modest one as it takes us through the end of next

final tomorrow, kensington palace confirmed that prince william and kate will be in the royal box on center court to watch the game. kate has been the patron of the all england club since 2016. this includes ceremonial duties like handing out the winner's trophy after the singles final. it will be her second public appearance since she announced her cancer diagnosis back here in the bay. baseball teams the giants and the a's are making fans proud,

to come this morning san francisco moves one step closer to zero emissions. the new ferry that's already on the

will cruise through the bay. you're looking at sea change. it's the world's first commercial passenger ferry, powered 100% by zero emission hydrogen fuel cells. the 70 foot catamaran fits up to 75 people on it. the state is requiring all short distance ferries to be emissions free by the end of 2025. starting july 19th, sea change will run for free for six months, so you can check it out. well, today in the east bay, trumer pils will be celebrating 20 years of brewing in berkeley with a big block party. as an extra treat, they are brewing a new beer for the anniversary called the anniversary ale. they'll be pouring their pilsner and other beers brewed on site.

there will also be some food options from the taproom and hot monk tavern. it runs from noon to six at the trumer taproom. the annual obon festival begins today in san jose's japantown. the festival honors loved ones who have passed and will have traditional performances, music and food. the event starts at noon on fifth street between taylor and jackson streets. looks like a lot of fun. >> yeah, temperatures coming way down into the low, maybe mid 80s in the south bay. you've got some sunshine there now, but we still have a heat advisory for the upper elevations of the north bay, the east bay and the south bay. that's where we'll have some 80s and 90s, but otherwise it is much cooler. the accuweather seven day forecast. breezy and cooler, partly cloudy today. a little more sun tomorrow, but notice the cooling trend continues all week long. but by the end of next week we are warming up, especially inland, and we'll watch that of course, carefully. >> yeah, we'll get a mix of both, but i'm sure a lot of us out there are going to be
