been caught and apprehended and are facing criminal consequences for that. and i think that's driving a lot of the reductions. so the crews that are hitting or have been hitting a lot of them have been arrested. >> criminologists told our partners at the san francisco standard. there are many reasons for dropping crime rates, and not all of them have to do with an increase in police presence. economic shifts are also a factor, among others. joining right now by spencer christian dropping crime rates hope uh- maybe some dropping temperatures, dropping temperatures. they started dropping already and will continue for a few days. >> so here we go. let's take a look at what's going on outside right now. you can see it's a pretty calm evening, wind wise. over in the area of the delta. a little bit breezier over near fairfield. and you can see virtually all locations are a few degrees cooler than they were last night at this time. so let's take a look at current temperature readings, starting with san francisco, which is at 57 degrees low to mid 60s at oakland, hayward, san jose, redwood city, 57 at half moon

bay, looking down onto the bay from mount tam, we see just a little thin layer of fog right now, mid 50s, mid to upper 50s at santa rosa, petaluma and napa right now, and mid 60s, fairfield and concord at 61 degrees at livermore. and now we'll check out our forecast headlines early tomorrow morning near the coast of bay. look for some clouds, low clouds, fog and patchy drizzle. next few days we'll see an average range of afternoon temperatures. nothing very extreme, but later in the week it will start heating up inland all over again. for tonight it was a look at the forecast animation actually overnight into the early morning hours. lots of patchy drizzle offshore and some right along the coastline, so some land areas will receive some of that drizzle, but it won't be very widespread overnight. low temperatures will be mainly in the mid to upper 50s and highs tomorrow. low 60s at the coast, 65 here in san francisco, mainly mid 70s around the bay shoreline. upper uh- upper 80s to almost 90 in the inland areas but no triple digits showing up tomorrow. just a nice uh- seasonably warm inland

convention back two days, but then said he didn't want to have a potential assassin force a change of his campaign schedule. now, security is tight here in milwaukee, but the secret service says there is no credible threat to this convention in milwaukee. jay o'brien, abc news. >> tonight we're also hearing the chilling accounts from a mother and son who attended the rally. they were standing in the rows right in front of the victims that were shot. the photos from donna and joe show the chaotic scene unfold. they described what it was like to be too close for comfort. >> so i screamed, gun, get down! and i grabbed my mom and i yanked her towards the grass because we were so low and she was on top of an 80 year old woman. i was on top of her, and i remember checking her for blood and everything, and four more shots rang out and then people start screaming, man down from above us. and no medics were coming to us, which was horrifying. >> we had a fear that there was more shooters there. >> wow. donna is wary of

you. that's coming up this week at 1 p.m. right here on abc seven. >> federal officials have approved the controversial plan to allow electric bikes on some of tahoe's trails. according to the chronicle, 106 miles of trails would be opened in the u.s. forest service, 154,000 acre lake tahoe basin management unit. the plan includes building 45 miles of new trails. the forest service is finalizing the environmental assessment document, which is expected to be released next month. e-bikes are currently not allowed on tahoe trails because they are motorized. a san francisco
