5:08 am
400ft away from the stage. officials say a police officer confronted him moments before. videos from the scene show people tried to alert police 86 seconds before the first shots began. following the shooting, trump and biden spoke on the phone. trump describing the call to abc's jonathan karl, saying it was very nice. he couldn't have been nicer. biden telling nbc the political climate is too heated. >> there's no place at all for violence in politics in america. none. zero. and we've reached a point where it's, it's become too commonplace. >> lionel moise, abc news, new york. >> well, following the assassination attempt on trump, the secret service now says it will provide protection to independent presidential candidate robert f kennedy jr. for months, his campaign has been requesting protection after several security incidents, the white house did not approve a secret service detail until yesterday. well, in one of those

5:10 am
original murder investigation. peterson was convicted in 2004 of killing laci and their unborn son, conner. he was sentenced to death, but that was later overturned and he was resentenced to life without parole. a new team of lawyers with the la innocence project took up peterson's case. a judge previously agreed a piece of duct tape found on laci's pants could be tested for dna. both sides are making arguments for how the testing will be done and by whom. peterson's defense is arguing he is entitled to all of the prosecution's evidence, even if it wasn't presented during the original murder trial. prosecutors argued the defense is basing their case on what they're calling rumors and speculation. court resumes at nine this morning. kumasi back to you, reggie. >> i'll take it. thank you. months after antiwar protests happened at colleges across the country, we are still following the aftermath. uc regents will reportedly not be tolerating encampments in the future. they're working to create school policy to consistently handle

5:12 am
and 80s today for daytime highs. so it's a lovely afternoon along the way. so here's a look at future weather. by 1025 we're seeing that bay shoreline fog breaking down. still pretty cloudy along the coast, but watch how that fog really evaporates as we head into the afternoon. by 4 p.m, even along the coast, we do expect mostly sunny skies. it will be a nice beach day. little breezy though in our coastal communities away from the coast. as you head inland for this time of the year. 70s and 80s feels very nice with full sunshine and again, those temperatures just a few degrees below average. so highs today we'll go to 67 in the city, a very mild 70 in oakland feels nice in the east bay, 80 in san jose, 78 in santa rosa. hit about 84 in concord, 85 in antioch. and then along the coast will be in the low 60s to the low 70s for daytime highs. but lots of sunshine. so take a look at the three day forecast. today is going to be the coolest day of the week. we do have warmer weather set to move in here as we head later into the week, and over the weekend. we have a lot of beautiful weather to talk about. we'll show you that coming up in

causing problems again. coyotes have grown accustomed to getting closer and now there are new warnings going out in public spaces. amanda, the most recent close encounters with the animals are raising concern. >> yeah. kumasi. these closures come less than three weeks after a five year old girl was bitten by a coyote in san francisco's golden gate park, and now warning signs are going up in parks across the city after incidents involving dogs. now you are looking at video of the first coyote pup we came across last night at saint mary's recreation center field in san francisco. recently, the summer kids camp here was moved elsewhere and the field closed due to the high number of coyote sightings. >> the kids were relatively close to the tree line and also relatively close to the den, which are two things that should not happen near coyotes, and then from all accounts, it seems
5:17 am
like this coyote kind of was, very stimulated by all the screaming and yelling and sort of playfulness of kids as they, as young kids are. >> and from what we're learning, it's a similar scene in the presidio's mountain lake park dog area, one that is now closed due to dogs or due to at least three dog and coyote incidents in recent weeks. i should say no dogs or humans were injured there, but the concern over these animals is, of course, heightening back to you, the desk. >> thanks, amanda, a heads up. if you take san francisco's iconic cable cars, the powell, mason and powell lines are out of service right now because of machinery issue. sfmta says bus shuttles are being provided for both lines until they get the issue solved. the agency is hoping to have this problem fixed sometime this week, starting tomorrow, there will be a new way to travel between oakland and alameda. >> we first told you about this little yellow shuttle named woodstock last week. it will run
