patchy fog around the bay. shoreline, current sky conditions. as we look at the map, our farthest inland areas like concord, napa reporting clear skies. other areas. it's a mix of sun and clouds out there. temperatures right now pretty comfortable. mid 50s to the low 60s as we look around the bay shoreline. good morning hayward at 62. it's 60 in palo alto, 58 in livermore. it's a similar stories widen out the map. she parts of the north bay in the inland east bay. some of our cooler spots in our valleys like santa rosa starting out in the upper 40s. so today's a day with those temperatures for the middle of july are very pleasant inland. today, a few degrees below average, we'll have lots of sunshine. those daytime highs mainly in the low and mid 80s. later on today. cloud cover, patchy right now around the bay shoreline. that's what you see here. but we see sunshine pretty quickly later on this morning. and by 4 p.m. our daytime highs are in the low 70s with a light breeze out there along the coast. we do have overcast skies currently, but we'll get sunshine breaking out this afternoon and along the coast we'll have our highs in the low 60s. let's see how we're doing

with the drive times in a manner. this morning. >> good morning i drove you're just joining us here at 602. we have been tracking an issue over in alamo northbound 680. there has been a two big rig crash northbound 680 between livorna road and rutger road. you can see speeds are down to zero miles per hour because no one is moving. and the backup is to stone valley road here at this hour. this has been in place since about four this morning. 409 is when those two big rigs crashed. but one of them blocking the roadway because it became jackknifed. we also understand that there is a report of a light pole being hit and taken down, and with some of those wires exposed as well. so there's no estimated time of reopening, but it is going to impact the commute, especially as commute hours tick up. but again, northbound 680 in alamo, that's an issue. we do have. abc seven news reporter lena howland on scene with fresh eyes as the sun starts to rise up, rise up on the scene, lena. >> hey, amanda. we just got on scene a few minutes ago, and chp tells me that they are working

to get this cleaned up in about 20 minutes. take a look right here behind me. you can see a tow truck working to, get this tractor trailer up and out of the way. this is a jackknifed semi, and this does appear to be a crash involving two semi trucks blocking all northbound lanes of 680. now, this crash happened just after 4:00 this morning. you can see that jackknifed semi blocking all northbound 680 lanes. this happened in alamo at livorna road until crews can get this cleaned up, traffic is being diverted off the highway on livorna. danville boulevard is also being used as an alternate route. no injuries have been reported. the chp did tell us only a few minutes ago that they're expecting to have this cleaned up in about 20 minutes. the good news is we are seeing tow trucks doing that work to get this cleaned up this morning, and we are hearing that traffic is being backed up to stone valley road this morning. so you may want to take a

different route if you are planning to head this way to work this morning. for now, reporting live in alamo. lena howland abc seven news. >> thank you lena. the republican national convention heads into day two today. so here's a live look in milwaukee, where delegates will gather later on. donald trump is officially the republican presidential nominee, the ap reports. nikki haley is likely to speak today. she was a last minute addition to the schedule today will focus on immigration and crime, with the theme make america safe. once again, let's show you what happened last night. trump paraded onto the floor and appeared emotional as he walked through his supporters. he joined his new running mate, j.d. vance, for the first time, a prerecorded speech from trump played for the crowd. >> whether you vote early absentee by mail or in person, we are going to protect the vot. that's the most important thing we have to do is protect the vote. >> many of the speeches yesterday focus on economic policies and claims that president biden has mishandled the economy. >> j.d. vance, just like current

vice president kamala harris, has bay area ties. he worked in san francisco for several years after graduating from yale, he was a venture capitalist for a firm owned by peter thiel, a former co-founder and early facebook investor. now, after his memoir came out in 2016, vance called himself a never trump guy in an interview with charlie rose. he later told abc news that he didn't see trump offering many solutions. he went on to apologize for those attacks on trump during a fox news interview in 2021, as he entered the race for senator john dennis, the chairman of the san francisco republican party says delegates are excited about vance as a promising choice. >> in my mind, he's the best on foreign policy. he's very skeptical of, you know, getting into conflicts. >> clearly, uh- trump wanted to bring in someone who didn't have much baggage and someone that he didn't personally attack during the primaries >> vance, his wife, usha vance,

joined him on stage at the republican national convention last night up until yesterday, she worked as a litigator in the san francisco and washington, dc offices of offices of munger, tolles and olson. they've been married for ten years and have three kids together. >> we're learning new details about the day of the assassination attempt on former president trump. according to the fbi, on the day of the trump rally, the suspected shooter bought 50 rounds of ammo, two ieds were found in his car and home, sources say thomas matthew crooks told his father he was going to the shooting range that day. that's when his father gave him the rifle to use in the attack, a motive remains unclear. in an exclusive interview with abc news, secret service director kimberly cheadle called the shooting unacceptable and is promising transparency in the investigation. >> we want to make sure that we examine everything from start to finish and if we need to change our practices, we will absolutely do that.

>> so the buck stops with you. >> the buck stops with me. i am the director of the secret service and i need to make sure that we are performing a review and that we are giving resources to our personnel as necessary. >> cheadle will appear on capitol hill on monday for a hearing on the assassination attempt. abc news has complete coverage of the assassination attempt on donald trump and the republican national convention. all week. you can tune in for live reports and expert analysi, starting every night at. right here on abc seven. >> new this morning, leaders of the democratic national committee are reportedly pushing to confirm president biden as the party's nominee by the end of the month. this is according to the new york times. president biden has been confirmed through a virtual roll call since may, but since his poor debate performance last month, some delegates are questioning if his campaign should continue. they are expected to start casting ballots as soon as monday. the process is set to last about a week. the democratic national convention is august 19th to the 22nd in chicago.

>> a hearing will continue today for a convicted killer, scott peterson, and his fight for freedom. peterson is serving life in prison for the murder of his wife, laci, and their unborn son. amanda, how is laci's mother responding to all this? >> reggie. in court yesterday, prosecutors read a victim impact statement from laci peterson's mother. and it read in part, when will this end? while talking about the pain of their loss and scott peterson's quote, relentless pursuit to leave prison, a judge is hearing arguments about evidence gathered during the original murder investigation. peterson was convicted in 2004 of killing laci and their unborn son, conner. he was sentenced to death, but that was later overturned and he was resentenced to life without parole. a new team of lawyers with the la innocence project took up peterson's case. a judge previously agreed a piece of duct tape found on laci's pants could be tested for dna. legal analyst stephen clark weighed in on this hearing. >> this case has been litigated throughout the court systems for

20 years, and nothing new has established anything other than scott peterson is guilty. and i think that's why the prosecution is starting to get very frustrated with the continuing of these appeals. the claims that the evidence wasn't turned over. >> both sides are making arguments for how the testing will be done and by whom. peterson's defense is arguing he is entitled to all of the prosecution's evidence, even if it wasn't presented during the original murder trial. prosecutors argued the defense is basing their case on what they call rumors and speculatio. court resumes at nine this morning. back to you. the desk. >> thanks, amanda. happening today. the public will have a chance to weigh in on proposed changes to the area around the west portal station in san francisco. sfmta has proposed a series of changes on the roads after a deadly crash earlier this year killed an entire family. after receiving public comment, the sfmta board could vote to approve the changes. if you want to give your input on

the plans, the meeting is today at 1 p.m. >> take a look at the accuweather forecast. we'll get you going this morning. as you can see, some cloud cover early on gives way to full sunshine and we warm gently over the next couple of hours. still in the 60s for the most part. by 11 a.m. so looking at our highs today versus average, you'll notice a lot of blue in the last column. that's the difference. the first column where we're going this afternoon, the middle column where we typically land. and you can see where a couple of degrees below average in most cities. so today is going to feel very pleasant for the middle of july with our warmest areas in the 70s and in the 80s. let's show you future weather that fog we have overhead. it does break down through the next couple of hours. even along the coast. we're going to see that cloud cover give way to sunshine later on this afternoon. we'll keep it comfortable inland in the upper 70s, lower 80s around the bay shoreline. we're mainly in the 60s and in the 70s. as we head into the afternoon, we'll see a high of 67. in the city, a pleasant 70 in oakland, 80 in

680. in concord. it happened sunday night. chp says one of the drivers of the multiple cars involved may have been under the influence. it started as a one car crash when a driver of a honda hit a barrier. that person got out of the vehicle and then was hit by two cars. that man died and investigators say he may have been driving under the influence. one of the other drivers had major injuries and was taken to the hospital. new developments. the only initial

survivor of the shooting of an alameda family has died. the one year old boy, police say, was shot by his father, passed away at the hospital and he is the fifth member of his family to die from the shooting that happened wednesday night. his father, shane killian, is charged with killing the child's mother. his six year old brother and his grandparents inside of their home. investigators have not shared a motive. coyotes are causing problems once again. they've grown accustomed to getting closer and now there are new warnings going out in public spaces. amanda. the most recent close encounters are raising concern kumasi concerns and closures. >> these closures come less than three weeks after a five year old girl was bitten by a coyote in san francisco's golden gate park, and now warning signs are going up in parks across the city after incidents involving dogs. you are looking at video of the first coyote pup we came across last night at saint mary's recreation center field in san francisco. recently, the

summer kids camp here was moved elsewhere and the field closed due to the high number of coyote sightings. >> the kids were relatively close to the tree line and also relatively close to the den. which are two things that should not happen near coyotes, and then from all accounts, it seems like this coyote kind of was, very stimulated by all the screaming and yelling and sort of playfulness of kids as they, as young kids are from what we're learning, it's a similar scene in the presidio's mountain lake park dog area, one that is now closed to dogs due to at least three dog and coyote incidents in recent weeks. >> no dogs or humans were injured there, but the concern over these animals is certainly heightening. back to you at the desk. >> thanks, amanda. family members who lost loved ones on the golden gate bridge gathered to commemorate the addition of a suicide barrier. kimberly renee gamboa held a photo of her son who jumped off the bridge in 2013. she fought to get a safety

net installed. the project was completed earlier this year. this net spans the entire length of the bridge on both sides. it is meant to deter suicide and save lives. >> it provides people a second chance. so if someone does fall into the net, we're able to rescue them. they're able to come back and really take advantage of a second chance in life. >> about 30 people die by suicide on the golden gate bridge. every year, this net extends 20ft over the water to catch people who jump. >> it's not just daylight saving that makes the days feel longer. new research is showing that climate change is actually having an impact on the length of our days. the national academy of sciences says that ice sheets melting at the earth's poles are redistributing the mass of the planet's surface. water from the ice is now moving toward the equator, slowing the rotation of the earth and resulting in milliseconds being added to every day. experts worry if that

fantastic. if you're going anywhere in the bay it will be very pleasant. today is going to be the coolest day of the week. here's a live look outside from our exploratorium camera. partly cloudy conditions calm waters on the bay. if you're taking the ferry across this morning, it shouldn't be too bad. pleasant today with temperatures slightly below average, we'll get a warming trend over the next couple of days starting tomorrow, but nowhere near the intense heat we had at the start of the month. just a minor to moderate heat risk out there. and then the weekend is looking fantastic. lots of sunshine and mild weather so inland highs will go into the mid 80s with a lot of sunshine out there today around the bay shoreline. we have some of those clouds like you saw on the exploratorium camera moments ago, but it's a bright afternoon with highs in the upper 60s to the lower 70s quite cloudy right now along the coast, but we will get even brighter skies there with temperatures in the low 60s. so highs today. the microclimates will be in the 70s and 80s in the south bay 80, in san jose, 76, in sunnyvale along the peninsula, 71 for san mateo, 73, in palo alto. will keep in the

60s for pacifica and half moon bay. some clouds over the city right now, even close to the ocean today for the sunset, the richmond we will get sunshine. the marine layer retreats away from the coast this afternoon. we'll have temperatures in the 60s in the north bay. we have 70s and 80s in our warmest spots, 80 in san rafael, 79 in sonoma. the east bay right now has some cloud cover giving way to sunshine. close to 10 a.m. this morning, 70 in oakland, 78 castro valley, 74, in newark and then inland today. temperatures very comfortable, low and mid 80s for this time of the year with lots of sunshine out there overnight. tonight we'll have those clouds come back along the coast and spill around the bay shoreline. overnight lows will mainly be in the 50s now. tomorrow you'll feel warmer. weather starts to move in here. temperatures close, if not a bit above average. we'll continue that warming trend here on thursday, and then by friday you can see some of our warmest areas getting close to about 100 degrees. that's where we have our moderate heat risk. to finish out the week, here's the accuweather seven day forecast. coolest day of the week is today. that warming trend will move in here starting tomorrow, but by the weekend we do have

across the country. this is caitlin and christopher ketteman there from sacramento in november of last year, they deposited $57,000 into an account for a houston based surrogacy company to pay a surrogate last month, they found out the surrogate was never paid and nearly $10,000 was gone from the account. and they can't get their money back. >> got the bombshell, which was all operations have been ceased, the money, the bank account has been frozen because of an investigation. >> the catman say they joined a facebook group with 800 people who have similar stories. they haven't been able to get ahold of the company, but the company did respond to a local tv station saying they can't

overall map showing several colors reflecting the slowdowns. we'll take you straight to alamo first, where we've been tracking that big rig crash involving two big rigs on northbound 680 between livorna road and rutger road, you can see speeds are still down to zero because they are getting ready to reopen that roadway. if you want to avoid that altogether, exit off el cerro boulevard and take danville boulevard and then a few other issues. sunol southbound 680 before highway 84, there's a four vehicle crash there, slowing speeds down to about six miles per hour. there's a 20 minute delay. the backup is to sunol boulevard and then lastly to fairfield. westbound 80 at suisun valley road. a crash involving a big rig is blocking the middle lanes. there backup is to the scales with a 25 minute delay. speeds there nine miles per hour. let's get back to reggie. >> amanda. thank you. breaking news in the east bay. emergency crews are working to clear a crash on 680 in alamo. this involves two big rigs, one of them jackknifed. abc seven news reporter lena howland is live at the scene, so lena, how's it look right now?

>> hey, reggie, things are a much different story right now compared to 30 minutes ago when you last checked in with us. chp is preparing to reopen six 8-80 in any minute now. you can see here behind me, crews were able to clear that jackknifed semi, and they were able to move it safely over to the shoulder. i want to go now to some video of what things looked like earlier this morning. this crash happened just after 4:00 this morning. there was a jackknife semi blocking all northbound lanes of 680. this is happening in alamo near livorna road up until crews got here, people were being diverted off the highway at livorna danville boulevard has also been used as an alternate route. the good news here is that no injuries were reported and chp is working to get this reopened any minute now. now, as we mentioned, this has been causing a major traffic delay for drivers here in the east bay since about 4:00 this

supervisor aaron peskin on friday. >> an update from the abc7 news i-team, one of two bay area men convicted of killing an italian police officer, will be released from prison. an italian court has approved house arrest for 23 year old gabriel natale. your he's been in prison in italy since 2019 and will now be allowed to serve out the rest of his 11 year sentence at his grandmother's home near rome. he and his friend, 24 year old finnegan elder, were on vacation when they were confronted by plain clothes officers after a failed drug deal, elder stabbed the officer to death, both initially received life sentences. the sentences were reduced because the officers failed to properly identify themselves. natalie hjorth's family texted the i-team quote, we are delighted with the outcome. we look forward to welcoming gabriel back to his family home soon. abc7 news i-team reporter dan noise produced an award winning documentary about the case. it's called 32 seconds a deadly night in rome. it's available on

here. with what information is at risk this morning? >> yeah. kumasi. we're learning 6 million records have reportedly been exposed, including email addresses, usernames, user ids and ip addresses. a user on a forum called leak base shared the information. they said they don't know who obtained it, but shared a file with 1.6gb of user information. they said it was just a small part of what they found and warned. the full database includes 60 million rows of data. hackers can use the information for potential phishing attacks, identity theft and unauthorized account access. we did reach out to pinterest for a comment earlier this morning. we'll let you know when we hear back. back to you. >> thanks, amanda. police are

investigating a break in caught on camera at the east bay spca in oakland. surveillance footage captured sunday morning shows a blue hatchback ram into the back gate of the building. the crash knocked the gate off the track, clearing the way for someone to hotwire the spca's largest transport vehicle. the shelter's vp of operations says this isn't the first time they've been targeted. >> our large transport van has now been stolen twice. we have had our gate damaged and rammed in two times, so we've had to repair that. we also are frequently, victims of graffiti. >> the stainless steel extra galvanized gate was just installed in november and cost the organization more than $54,000. the van itself is another $90,000 loss, and look at all the graffiti. she just mentioned it, but it costs them a lot of money. $15,000 to repaint. oh man, how frustrating. people are remembering an up and coming rapper shot and killed outside an oakland beauty store. you can
