only us, but television stations up and down the california and beyond. dallas raines joining us now with a look at our weather. lisa, that's work in dallas. >> mark. everything is going well in the weather department. this afternoon. we had a beautiful day across southern california. but my friends, this is the last day with the mild to warm temperatures. we're going to seeoming in down in lax tonight. it is cloudy as the marine layer kind of pushed in earlier today. but look what we have in the forecast as we head into the weekend. we do have an excessive heat warning for areas of southern california. just about everybody is in it with the exception of the coastal areas, but especially in the desert. we're going to see temperatures of at palm springs climb all the way again. 115 116 today palm springs was at 110. it was 93 at northridge. not bad. that's about normal for this time of the year. big bear lake checked in at 83 redondo beach today. had that sea breeze working all
11:36 pm
day long at 73. so as far as the marine layer goes, it is increasing tonight and should push in to downtown early in the morning hours. this is right around sunrise so it'll be cloudy from compton all the way down to newport beach and san clemente. the vernoff's fairly quick though, and that leaves us with a lot of sunshine tomorrow and as that happens, we're going to start seeing temperatures warm up. when we look at the differences in temperatures from the coast to the inland valleys, it's all because of our cold waters that we have in southern california. so here we are in july, and look at the water temperature off santa barbara. 63. only 68 degrees down at santa monica and 71 at san clemente. so once we get a little sea breeze, if you live in those beach communities, you don't have to worry too much about the heat wave. but this big dome of high pressure is building tonight. he was getting a little closer. remember last night? it was a little east of about. about 2 or 300 miles. and it is moving in our direction.
11:37 pm
we did have a few afternoon thunderstorms develop today out in the high desert, out toward barstow and las vegas. those have diminished. and then by this weekend, look at where i'm positioning the high pressure. it's going to be right over las vegas and sitting in this position, the closer we get to the center of that high, the hotter the weather gets. so be prepared for big hot weekend coming up in southern calith 68s at 7:00 under mostly sunny skies with the exception of the beaches. this is my forecast for the valleys. and look how quickly the temperatures climb 86 almost 90 degrees at lunchtime and then close to 100 out of the valleys at 3:00. and that's just kind of getting started for tomorrow. palm springs again around 111 to 114 degrees. mission viejo, 91. it'll be 94, in pasadena, downtown, about 89, just under 90 encino. you'll be closing in
11:38 pm
on 100. in areas like chatsworth and northridge and santa clarita. every one of those locations will go over 100 degrees. let's go to the seven day forecast. same for downtown and inen saturday and sunday wie the hottest days during the weekend with mostly sunny weather. high near 90 8887. we're falling next week, thank but i do think it's going to be a big cooling trend just beyond the seven day forecast. maybe getting into next weekend for the valleys tomorrow you'll start to feel the heat and then on saturday and sunday, look at that 96 to 106 102 averaging in the hotter valleys stays that way on monday. and then finally a little bit of a drop by thursday. lots of clouds at the beaches, the beach communities. just loving it. 7779 is a warm saturday for the beach. there will be marine layer clouds then as we head to the end of the
11:39 pm
seven day period next week, we'll see better sea breeze coming through and temperatures start to fall in the mountain areas. one more day of an isolated thunderstorm. it's not very much tomorrow. then it's just hot and sunny. if you're going to lake arrowhead, a big bear. temperatures around 90 at big bear and lake arrowhead, low 90s. so it's going to be a really hot, sunny weekend in the mountain areas with elevated fire danger. by monday and tuesday, i'm going to bring a slight chance of thundershowers returning to those areas in the mountains. same deal in the deserts tomorrow. the big numbers going up. mark 107. high desert's 111 is the hottest temperature in the antelope valley on saturday, but palm springs on the weekend, 116 to 117. so this heat wave is going to last about four days. and it's going to be intense, my friend. >> all right. dallas raines, thank you. we know that our sister stations at, in fresno, kfsn, and in san francisco kgo are also joining us tonight. we are going to try to see if we
