waves, but the problem is, thousands of flights, they were canceled yesterday, and all of those stranded passengers are now flocking to airports all across the country desperate to get where they've got to go. this morning, airline passengers across the globe growing frustrated as the massive tech disaster reaches into its second day. some passengers still stranded, spending the night at airports, others with long lines and delays. >> our connecting 8:15 flight was delayed until 11:00. of course, we missed that because we weren't off the plane in time. >> reporter: in many airports what should have displayed critical flight information to travelers, instead showing that so-called blue screen of death error message. today so far more than 700 flights canceled and on friday, over 12,000 delays and more than 3,000 cancellations. but the outage stretching far beyond travel. the department of homeland security saying the outage hit 911 dispatch centers in multiple states and slowed operations in at least a dozen major hospitals. the outage traced back to what was intended to be a routine software update issued by

crowdstrike, a cybersecurity firm. instead the update they sent out crashed machines running on microsoft windows. crowdstrike's ceo quashing fears about a targeted attack. >> to be clear, it was not a cyberattack. it was a content bug or update that we sent out that we identified and we rolled back. >> reporter: banks and businesses also affected. shippers, u.p.s. and fedex warning customers, the software outage could lead to delayed package deliveries triggering another round of disruptions for americans as they scramble to recover. and this morning, crowdstrike says it's working on strategies to prevent this type of meltdown from happening again. meanwhile, if you are traveling today, it's best to check with your airline before heading to the airport. rhiannon? >> rhiannon: good advice. morgan norwood, thank you for that. now to the growing pressure on president biden to leave the white house. more than three dozen lawmakers have called for him to step aside and selina wang is in

rehoboth beach where the president is recovering from covid. she is back with the latest. good morning. >> reporter: hey, good morning, rhiannon. the president remains defiant, even as the pressure on him grows and that support from top democratic leadership is crumbling. now, the president, he is still recovering from covid here in rehoboth beach, delaware, but already he's making the announcement next week he's getting back on the campaign trail. this as now more than three dozen democratic lawmakers in congress are publicly calling on the president to drop out of the race. sources tell us that leader jeffries, schumer and former house speaker nancy pelosi have all told the president that he will lose to trump and drag down democrats in congress. sources also tell us that pelosi privately told colleagues that she believes this pressure will get the president to make a decision soon. now, i'm told that the president is listening to all of these concerns, but he's personally upset by how democrats and some of his closest allies are turning against him. all of this coming as money is drying up. i'm told that the vice president yesterday joined a call with

some of the campaign's top donors trying to calm some of their anxieties. but, look, this decision here is only for the president to make and time is running out with each passing day this pressure will only get more intense. >> gio: all right. selina, thank you so much. now to the trump campaign, the former president today holding his first rally on the trail with his new running mate, jd vance, in a critical battleground state. jay o'brien is back with more from grand rapids, michigan. jay? >> reporter: good morning, gio. this is former president trump's first time back on the campaign trail, his physical rally since that assassin's bullet hit his ear exactly a week ago today and we have already seen people starting to line up here. some of them, you could see their heads, by the way, waiting here since yesterday. this will be trump's first time campaigning as well with his new vp pick, ohio senator j.d. vance. trump is fresh off the republican national convention where he delivered that message of unity in the wake of that

>> whit: welcome back. now to our latest parenting playbook on pool safety. the cdc reporting drowning deaths were higher in recent years and here with tips on how to swim safely director of operations in aquatics, muneki kamata. muneki, good morning. great to have you. >> thank you for having me. >> whit: let's start out with a little review. what are some of the most important safety rules to keep in mind this summer? >> well, of course, water safety is the number one thing that we're interested in. we never want to leave the children unattended, right? we always want to make sure that you have a pool watcher. we want to make sure that those pool watchers are getting circulated every 30 to 45 minutes. you know, you don't want to get -- the parents are going to be tired. they're not going to be as focused on the kids. they might be talking to their friends and stuff like that. you want to move with the kids when they move to the deep end. you know, you want to make sure that you know where the more dangerous parts of your pool are, right? so the deep side of the pool is

somewhere you always want to focus on. they're going to do jumps and stuff like that, so that's always definitely something to keep an eye on. and, of course, you always want to refresh on your cpr certifications. >> gio: it's so important because we were talking about seeing this happen in one of the stories we did right here on "gma" where we saw how parents really lose track of their kids when they're watching them and when they're swimming. so let's talk about when kids should start learning those lessons. i remember going to those lessons when i was a little kid and they were so helpful. when should they start? >> at penguin city swim we start as early as six months and teaching them to get acclimated to the pool. get their faces in the water and start them floating on their back. around 2 years, you want to start more formal swimming where they are he getting to move through the water themselves. >> whit: if you're a parent, what do you need to look for? >> so, in the instructor? >> whit: yeah, just in general. what type of swim lesson, instructor, like the types of,

you know, different techniques that they're learning? >> of course. so with the swim instructor i would definitely be focused on what their experience is. i know when i'm looking at an instructor for our program, i'm looking at their experience, what kind of certifications they have in their background. lifeguarding is always a plus. you're always looking for, you know, their personality. so every kid has their own personality. some are a little crazier, some a little bit more tame. so make sure that the personality matches with the instructor. some instructors you want more to be patient. other ones you want to be a little more strict so they can learn how to follow rules and stuff like that. >> gio: so you want to go ahead and observe a class as well. that's very important. >> of course. we always recommend that you come in and watch one of our classes so that you know what's happening in the classes yourself and you get to see the kids' progress in the pool themselves. >> gio: all right, well, muneki kamata, thank you so much for joining us. thank you for what you do. rhiannon, over to you. >> rhiannon: as summer heats up it is the perfect time to revamp your routine when it comes to your skin and your eye care.

joining us now with helpful tips are clinical aesthetician isabelle mcleod and optomotrist dr. jennifer tsai. welcome to both of you. let's talk about skincare. you say to look at it like a pyramid. what's step one in the pyramid? >> i think it's super important to keep it simple and with all the skin care out there nowadays, it can be very confusing so if you can think of it in three steps. step one, a super healthy foundation, proper cleansing, my personal favorite, a good vitamin c serum. vitamin c serum is going to help lighten, tighten, brighten the skin. nowadays i feel like we all should know we have to use a good sunscreen and there's so many good ones and remember to reapply because sunscreen only lasts about 80 to 90 minutes. >> rhiannon: what about step two? >> step two are more advanced treatments. they're going to be correcting products like retinol, ahas,

bhas, things that help you. they correct and rejuvenate the skin. >> rhiannon: what about step three? >> step three are going to be your anti-aging stars. growth factors, stem cells, peptides, and these really bring luminosity to the skin. they do recommend consulting with an aesthetician or dermatologist to really make sure that you're finding your regimen for your unique needs. >> rhiannon: good advice to check with an expert. thank you, isabelle. let's talk about our eyes. with all this heat and we're outside so much, how can we protect our eyes? >> eye protection is important. oftentimes we don't think about eye health. your eyes are irritated and red often from traveling on flights. redness relief drops are great. >> rhiannon: are all sunglasses built the same or are some better at protecting our eyes? >> i'm so glad you asked that because they are not made the same way. so one of the tips i would recommend is to always look for uva/uvb protection.

the way to look at that is check the labels. oftentimes in the summer there's a lot of water activities and reflective surfaces so polarized lenses are great for those type of activities. >> rhiannon: should we be wearing goggles to protect the eyes when we're swimming? >> goggles are quite important when you swim. there are a lot of eye infections. a lot of bacterial contaminants in lakes and oceans and pools even. when you wear goggles, you protect your eyes from possible infections but another tip to switch to daily contact lenses because you can dispose of them shortly afterwards. >> rhiannon: you can wear those under water? >> you can wear them under water, but you're going to throw them out and put in a fresh pair right afterwards. oftentimes when you travel, you drive to have sun shades in the car. this is a great example of having that protection from glare and uv light. >> rhiannon: great advice, i love that. thank you both so much. >> gio: all right, rhiannon. thank you so much. dr. jen knows her stuff because she's my eye doctor. let's go over to someone else who knows her stuff, leslie lopez from our los angeles station kabc.

i was rooting for the characters so hard. if you like the helen hunt movie from 1996, you'll like this one too. "twisters" in theaters now. so much fun. >> whit: looking forward to that. also another thing we're looking forward to, probably going to be the summer's biggest blockbuster. we are seeing a lot of sunshine out there on our saturday morning. a live look from our emeryville camera showing you that temperatures right now around the bay shoreline, low 60s to the low 70s will widen out this picture a little bit warmer as you head inland. mid 70s for brentwood, fairfield, clearlake, cloverdale. later today it will actually be a cooler afternoon compared to yesterday. part of the reason why the winds are going to pick up. they're pretty light right now. no issues there. it's around lunchtime and then into the afternoon and evening. those winds will be gusting close to 30mph at times. i think we'll see even higher gusts along the coast closer to 40mph. but those winds will bring in some cooler weather later on today. looking at highs around the region, we'll keep it in the 60s and 70s along the coast, mainly 70s around the bay shoreline, and we're still warm inland, just not as hot as yesterday. we'll keep in the low and mid 90s there stephanie. >> all right drew, thank you. up next, bay area airports slowly getting back to normal this morning. how frustrated passengers are dealing with the
