tonight. a swift presidential pivot in just a day. and a half, almost the entire democratic party is throwing its weight behind kamala harris to take the baton from president biden. as of tonight, the current vice president has clinched enough support from party delegates to become the new presumptive presidential nominee. it's all happened very quickly. good evening. thank you for joining us. >> i'm dan ashley and i'm ama daetz. in the hours since president biden stepped aside, we are seeing the harris

campaign make quick work in its mission to earn the official nomination. >> and now democrats are showing a unified front in their push to get behind their candidate, a bay area native. >> in the first 24 hours of campaigning, the harris team said it raised $81 million from nearly 890,000 donors, more than 28,000 volunteers have signed up in that same time frame. earlier today at the harris campaign headquarters, president biden called in while isolating at his home in delaware as he recovers from covid 19. >> the name has changed at the top of the ticket, but the mission hasn't changed at all. and by the way, i'm not going anywhere. i'm going to be out there in the campaign with her, with kamala. >> president biden will fly back to the white house tomorrow afternoon. that's another good sign of his improving condition from covid. >> california's delegates were unanimous in pledging their support for vice president harris, putting her over the threshold to become presumptive nominee. just tonight. she responded by saying in part, quote, i am proud to have secured the broad support needed

to become our party's nominee. and as a daughter of california, i am proud that my home state's delegation helped put our campaign over the top. i look forward to formally accepting the nomination soon. the democratic national convention starts august 19th in chicago. in many ways, the bay area will play a pivotal role in deciding the presidency, and especially when it comes to the fundraising last week, local tech heavyweights like elon musk and david sacks announced their ringing support for donald trump's running mate, senator jd vance. >> he's a former venture capitalist with deep ties to silicon valley. >> now we're hearing from silicon valley folks on the left excited about throwing their support behind kamala harris's run for president. abc7 news reporter suzanne phan is here in studio with their focus tonight, suzanne. so i'm a liberal tech executives and investors, young democrats, they all say they're invigorated by the changes in store. >> there's a lot of energy and excitement in silicon valley. >> some say tech leaders and

democrats are fired up. now that president joe biden has dropped out of the race and has endorsed vice president kamala harris as his successor. >> 2 to 1 silicon valley leaders backed vice president harris and the democratic ticket, and that is because of immigration, abortion rights, climate issues about understanding health care. eric pocan is with the silicon valley young democrats. >> he believes vp harris is the right choice with the right focus. >> she clearly has the extensive experience, uh- progressive values and deep ties to california that resonate with many of our members. >> when republican presidential nominee donald trump named j.d. vance his pick for vice president, local tech entrepreneurs like elon musk and david saks were ecstatic. musk said he would donate $45 million a month to support former president trump billionaires that are supporting vance see him as one of them. >> they think that he

understands silicon valley, he understands venture capital, and he understands startups. >> but now there may be reason for liberal tech executives and investors in silicon valley to feel rejuvenated and optimistic about the election in november. professor olaf grote is with the uc berkeley haas school of business. >> we do have a fair amount of billionaires that are voting left and are giving left, you know, such as eric schmidt, marc benioff and others. and so i do believe that as we get closer to the election, you will see many more of those voices. >> the co-founder of linkedin, reid hoffman, is a major democratic donor. he endorsed vp harris. meanwhile, billionaire venture capitalist vinod khosla, who held a fundraiser for president biden in may, is calling for an open process at the democratic convention. >> at this point, practically speaking, uh- kamala harris has gotten a lot of support and professor grote says vp harris will do well among silicon valley voters along the issues of diversity and immigration.

>> he says big corporations, however, may fear a harris administration. many tech leaders are concerned about regulations of artificial intelligence, cryptocurrency and other technologies. many of them, without a doubt, will be watching closely to see what vp harris will do and say next, live in the studio suzanne phan abc seven news. >> all right, suzanne, thank yo. vice president harris is moving up to lock up support from highly influential democratic political groups. she's picked up the endorsement of the congressional black caucus and the collective political action committee. tonight, the group win with black men raised over $1 million in three hours to benefit the harris campaign. last night, the win with black women group broke presidential campaign records when it raised more than 1.5 million in 3 hours. that has invigorated the presumptive democratic nominee, says california senator laphonza butler, who was a senior adviser to harris during her 2020 presidential bid. >> and she is as a determined as i have ever seen her, she is

will be in the lower 70s in antioch. so yes, you're right, it's a quick warm up. we have an excessive heat warning in pink there. and that is including the east bay hills, the valleys and advisory for the mountains of the north bay. and looking at santa cruz as well. right now it is 79. in livermore. you can see the 50s along the shoreline with more upper 70s up in calistoga. so those hot spots will get even hotter tomorrow. right now, 13 degrees warmer than we were yesterday at this hour. and as we go through the next few hours, notice the overnight lows in the 60s and 70s in our inland valleys. this is at sunrise 605 and then by noontime we are already in the 90s out there. so it is going to be a hot one by midday and by the afternoon we're warmer by about 3 or 4 degrees with 102 103. in livermore. i'll be back with a full look at our accuweather seven day forecast, and it brings a big cooldown in a few minutes. >> all right. thank you so much, lisa. tonight a story you'll see only on seven. parents are outraged after a youth basketball player stomped

another boy in the head. it happened in alameda on sunday during a game, and it was all caught on video. abc seven news reporter j.r stone has talked with families on both sides and joins us live tonight with this story that you'll see only on seven jr ama. >> i do think it's important to warn viewers that the video is a bit intense. this basketball game was about to end when all of this went down. there is a police investigation over what you're about to see here. as 113 year old player stomps on an opposing player's head, he was down on the floor and this kid just came and just stomped on him, and it's on his head. evan roderick say their son was playing on the tumakbo united team, which is a filipino-american youth team based in the bay area with players from all across the u.s. game took place sunday at the college of alameda versus peyton's place, another bay area team. there was a scuffle to get possession of the ball, then another player reacts. >> you could clearly see the

size of his shoe on his face. my son suffered concussion for the first time. he played basketball. >> the snobs say their son is now in concussion protocol and still dealing with headaches. the family of the other boy who did the stomping says that he was standing up for his teammat, who he believed had just been kicked and punched in this melee. family members tell me the player for peyton's place is now being cyber bullied by adults online. they also say he immediately left the gym after this because he was told to leave by an organizer. the peyton's place team says the boy is, quote, seeking help to control his emotions, and he is not playing with the program at this time. end quote. they also say they are saddened by what happened, adding the behavior that was exhibited by our player is not acceptable and is being taken seriously. police say this is an ongoing investigation after the knobs filed a report, i think everyone was in shock. >> i think, you know, we all

kind of went on the court uh- went up to the, i went up to the coach of the other team to say, hey, what just happened? you know what's going on. >> if we don't say anything right now, this kid will think it's okay to do it because he's young. he thinks that walking away from this situation, just like you did, is just okay. >> there are also questions about possible attacks that happened after the stomp involving parents and officials, but nothing could be seen on video, and police haven't detailed those to us. coaches tell me these players have played against each other several times over the years. both sides saying that race was not a factor here in anything that happened once alameda police wrapped this investigation, it will be up to the alameda county district attorney to decide if any action should be taken. j.r stone, abc seven news. >> that's really rough. all right, joe, thanks very much. new at 11. family and members of the community gathered to honor the birthday of a man fatally shot by san francisco police

officers in 2015. mario woods would have turned 35 years old today. those who knew him lit candles and shared a birthday cake in front of a mural painted in his honor. his shooting death touched off controversy and % handled the situation. >> the black and brown community came together, uprise demanded question authority, and i think that's important to understand is how we make change, is we question authority. we take it to the front steps. >> an investigation found woods was armed with a knife and had slashed a victim without reason before the encounter with police. >> and that comes as san francisco police are investigating its latest deadly shooting involving an officer. the encounter happened sunday night. a few minutes before midnight on willow street. that's an alleyway off van ness in the city's tenderloin neighborhood. police say they were called to investigate a report of an armed robbery that happened on mcallister street. before the shooting. a witness says he heard the commotion. he describes what happened after he heard a volley of gunfire. >> he just kind of stayed there and eventually they, like a

swarm of police, just ran over and kind of tackled him. and i think they took a gun from him or he was armed or something like that. >> the police officers association says the suspect fired at the pursuing officers when police shot back uh, fatally wounding the unidentified man. >> happening tomorrow, you may see some activity on one side of the bay bridge as we look live at the toll plaza. the city of oakland plans to clear out an illegal encampment along the eastern coastline. 8 to 10 homeless people have lived there for months. oakland has ordered them out because if they don't leave the city faces fines from the san francisco bay conservation and development commission. alameda county is reportedly working on creating sanctioned encampments. >> the secret service response the capitol hill hearing giving us a glimpse into the day of the trump assassination attempt. >> plus stamped into history, the timeless honor coming for the late, great tv host alex trebek and prepare the pitch.

butler, pennsylvania rally nine days after the attempted assassination on former president donald trump. after answering to a room of lawmakers, secret service director kim cheatle is being asked to resign by members of both parties. >> 20 minutes before the shooting began, the state police informed the secret service of their concern. now, the rally was not paused at that point. correct no. >> you have offered no reason for this committee, this body or the american people to trust you or the secret service today. >> cheatle claims the shooter wasn't considered a threat until seconds before the shooting. she wouldn't answer specific questions as to what went wrong. cheatle says she refuses to resign after 30 years of service and claims she's determined to find out why there was a security lapse. >> i think that i am the best person to lead the secret service at this time, the inspector general of homeland security opened three separate investigations into what happened that day. >> the fbi has also launched a

criminal investigation. >> days after the crowdstrike it outage. we're still seeing the ripple effects. delta airlines is one of the global companies hit the hardest. there were mass flight cancellations for the fourth straight day. more than 950 flights and counting were scrubbed today. the i.t. outage knocked out a critical crew scheduling system. hospitals, courts and media organizations that rely on crowdstrike were also brought down. congress has called on the company ceo to testify about what happened. >> look, i don't know how we could have prevented it. truthfully, i think it was just something something happened and they weren't prepared for it. and we're just kind of, you know, the guinea pigs to something that was pretty catastrophic, catastrophic. >> now to new developments for the proposed pop up utopia city in solano county. the company behind it says it's pulling the plan from the november ballot. county officials had just released an independent study on

the blueprint plans. it painted a bleak picture for the development near fairfield. the group behind the project, california forever, says it will now do more research and work with the county to create an environmental impact report. >> we're going to line up all of these approvals, do the work with the county, have additional input and then bring it back to the voters for one big approval. >> california forever now expects to put the measure on the ballot in 2026. the project would create space for about 400,000 residents in eastern solano county, a timeless honor for an american tv icon. >> the u.s. postal service is releasing new forever stamps that celebrate the late jeopard! host alex trebek. tonight reporter sophie flay from our sister station in los angeles, has more on the new stamp. >> beloved jeopardy! host alex trebek is now a forever stamp. the celebration at sony studios unveiling the new game show themed stamps. just as he adopted the united states as his

the united states postal service, he will be remembered forever. >> sophie flay, abc seven news. >> that's a great honor. it really is. yeah, and you can watch jeopardy! weeknights at seven right here on abc seven. for now, let's get a check on the weather. >> let's. meteorologist lisa argen is back with the forecast that looks like it's giving us another hot one tomorrow. >> yeah that's right dan it will be the hottest day tuesday. we'll begin to see a little bit relief on wednesday and then some big time cooling as we get towards the end of the week and the weekend. so look at those thunderstorms that fired up throughout nevada and the crest of the sierra nevada throughout the day today. now we'll see these again tomorrow. but for the bay area, it's all about that stable atmosphere, the low clouds, the fog, the compression of the marine layer and that cold ocean water that kept us pretty chilly here with the mother nature's air conditionin. 69 right now in hayward, it is 79. in livermore, 82 in brentwood, 80 in los gatos and

notice all the mild numbers up in the north bay, 65 in sonoma, 68 in vallejo. we will continue to drop off throughout the overnight hours around the bay shore, so it will be comfortable, but it's going to really take towards morning triple digit heat returns inland tomorrow, and that always brings the concern of the dry fuels and the breeze coming through the delta, hopefully not igniting any fires, but it's always on our mind this time of year as we get drier and drier, and then by later on in the week, the temperatures will come down to below average and we'll begin to recover. in terms of relative humidity, we were down to about 24% today in our inland valleys. the next few hours, a coastal flood advisory and the full moon yesterday. and so those low lying areas will see some minor flooding, 6.5ft tide there. that's the high tide, about ten minutes to 1 a.m. and then this will begin to recede. so as we look at the overnight lows with those 70s, it is a warm night in antioch, upper 60s concord, livermore and back into the low

to mid 50s from half moon bay to san francisco. so compared to today to tomorrow, we're warmer anywhere from a degree or so to about seven degrees. so notice we're at 102 in concord, probably 103 in livermore, mid 90s santa rosa, low 90s san jose. and as we look at the sea breeze, the winds are coming out of the south. and so that will initiate the breeze throughout the delta. but it's still going to be hot there. we will be milder around the bay but still hot. this is a look in the next seven days from livermore, 103 to 99 on wednesday. look at that drop off by the end of the week into the 80s and then upper 70s. so 102 tomorrow in concord, 103 in livermore and antioch, with upper 70s oakland, mid 90s santa rosa, about 9394 in san jose and the accuweather seven day forecast. we're looking at temperatures coming down a bit on wednesday after the hottest day tomorrow. look at the cool down back to the low 80s over the weekend, then slightly warmer by the time we get to next week. a
