afternoon. so we'll look at our inland areas first daytime highs going to about 104 in our hottest areas today. that is certainly warmer than yesterday under partly cloudy skies around the bay shoreline. it's warm again this afternoon. we'll find partly cloudy conditions and temperatures going into the mid and upper 80s. for daytime highs along the coast, we do have that relief from the heat, but it is a little bit warmer than yesterday. we'll have a mix of sun and clouds this afternoon, and those daytime highs in the upper 60s. let's see how those drive times are going with amanda. good morning. good morning drew. >> taking a look at our overall map. it's reflecting current conditions here in the bay area. you can see some red on the bay bridge. but even farther the altamont pass. that typical slowdown that we typically track at this time. you can see speeds are down to 16mph and then ten miles per hour in some spots. and that's because of stop and go traffic from nagli road on westbound 205 to north flynn road on westbound 580. and we'll leave you with those drive times on the altamont pass, 55 minutes from tracy to dublin, 16 minutes

from san rafael to san francisco. and then that drive from antioch to concord will take you about 20 minutes. reggie. >> thanks, amanda. this morning, vice president and bay area native kamala harris closing in on the democratic nomination as she holds her first campaign rally today. the party is quickly coalescing around the vp, who now has the support from the majority of democratic delegates. since president biden announced his intention not to run on sunday, the harris campaign has raised more than $100 million and counting. she's also received the endorsement of more high profile democrats that includes speaker emerita nancy pelosi, several democratic governors, some of them floated as potential running mates, have also endorsed and just a few minutes ago, george clooney announced his endorsement in a statement to cnn. remember, it was two weeks ago he called on the president to drop out of the race. and speaking of the president, yesterday, he called into the harris campaign headquarters to offer his support. >> the name has changed the top of the ticket, but the mission hasn't changed at all. and by

the way, i'm not going anywhere. i'm going to be out there in the campaign with her, with kamala. >> president biden will be back at the white house later today after isolating in delaware from his covid 19 diagnosis. the vice president's rally is in milwaukee, which was already scheduled before the president dropped out of the race. >> the vice president's run for the white house could potentially hinge on the bay area, silicon valley fundraisers will likely be pouring a lot of money into the race. abc seven news reporter lena howland joining us live in studio, and lena, how are some in silicon valley feeling about this presidential matchup? >> well, kumasi from liberal tech executives to investors and young democrats, many say they're invigorated and fired u, fired up by the changes in store when republican presidential nominee donald trump named jd vance for his pick for vice president, local tech entrepreneurs like elon musk and david saks were ecstatic. musk said he would donate $45 million a month to support former president trump. but now there

>> disbrow says she's been told to take down flags seven times since memorial day because the state agencies fielded complaints. caltrans responded, saying posting of messages or objects on overpasses or fencing creates a distraction for motorists. chp adds it's illegal to attach signs. it's not illegal to stand there and hold them as long as it's safe. >> for drivers in the east bay, parents are outraged after a youth basketball player stomped another boy in the head during a game, and now they filed a report with the alameda police department. amanda is tracking the latest at the live desk. amanda kumasi. >> the game took place over the weekend at the college of alameda. a player from tamaqua united was stomped in the head by a player from peyton's place, another bay area youth team. this all went down right before the end of the game and we do want to warn you, the video in this story might be intense for some viewers. take a look. we're going to wait a few pause while it leads up to that specific moment that we've been talking

about. you can see the 13 year old basketball player as he stomps on an opposing player's head. the family of the injured player says their son is in concussion protocol and still dealing with headaches. >> if we don't say anything right now, this kid will think it's okay to do it because he's young. he thinks that walking away from this situation, just like you did, is just okay. >> the family of the other boy who did the stomping says their son was standing up for a teammate who he believed had just been kicked and punched. the peyton's place team says the boy is seeking help to control his emotions and isn't playing with the team right now. the organization says, quote, the behavior that was exhibited by our player is not acceptable and is being taken seriously. we do not condone violence. that's the end of the quote there. police say this is an ongoing investigation. coaches say the teams have played against each other several times over the years. both teams say race was not a factor. once the investigation is over, it will

delta airlines as it's struggling to get back on track. four days after that, microsoft, crowdstrike computer outage. amanda has more on the announcement from the transportation secretary, amanda kumasi, transportation secretary pete buttigieg says the investigation will ensure delta is following the law and taking care of its passengers during continued disruptions. >> he says all passengers have the right to be treated fairly. delta had to cancel 950 flights yesterday, even as most other airlines are back to operating normally. delta blames a major issue with software that tracks crew members. and of course, frustration is really growing for customers. tensions are

especially high in atlanta, the world's busiest airport, which also has a delta hub. luggage has covered much of the terminal, as you see there, and for travelers unable to find their bag, the lost luggage line was more than 100 people long. one traveler is a quadriplegic and is now stuck in salt lake city. he says his bag with vital medication is still on board. a flight that was canceled. >> you tell them, hey, if i don't get this medication, i can have a seizure, stroke or pass out. and they just say, i don't know what to tell you. >> the ceo of delta says it will take a few more days to resolve the issues. he wrote yesterday. quote, today will be a better day than yesterday and hopefully tuesday and wednesday will be that much better again. that's the end of the quote. delta says customers who incurred hotel meal or transportation expenses may be eligible for reimbursement. back to you. kumasi. >> thanks, amanda. protesters in san francisco demanded more money for jobs and education in the philippines. they came

together outside the philippine consulate on sutter street yesterday following an annual address by the country's president. organizers say inflation has really impacted working class people over the past year. they also called out human rights violations they say have been happening since 2016. during the country's war on drugs. new developments for the proposed city being called california forever in solano county. the organization behind it says it's pulling that plan from the november ballot. the announcement came as country excuse me, county officials were preparing to hold a public meeting today to review an independent study on the impact of the proposal. the 157 page report cited major concerns with the plan. now, the california forever group says they will do more research and work with the county to create an environmental impact report. >> we're going to line up all of these approvals, do the work with the county, have additional input, and then bring it back to the voters for one big approval. >> california forever expects to put the measure back on the

ballot in 2026. the project would create space for about 400,000 residents in eastern solano county, near fairfield in southern california. >> a new art installation in laguna beach with ties here to the bay area. it's causing quite a stir. take a look at this. it's two oversize crows perched outside of city hall. they're made of bronze. they weigh each about 1,000 pounds. oakland artist jack champion created the installation. the birds made their first appearance at burning man in 2017. it's important to know a murder of crows requires three crows to be there. so the name of this installation, attempted murder. oh, god. all right. once i knew the name, i was fully into this. that's comedy. right on. >> i will say a drive through palo alto. you'll also see these huge crows, one atop a home as well. >> i don't know who the artist is. i don't know if they're

friend. look at those inland cities warming fast today. look at noon. we're already into the mid 90s. and then about 2 p.m. we're above 100 and will stay there for several hours by about 4 p.m. that's the peak of the daytime heating with our hottest areas hitting about 104. so highs today in our microclimates in the south bay we have a heat advisory. in effect, we will be in the 90s for daytime highs along the peninsula. cool along the coast but warm as you head towards the shoreline. 85 in redwood city, 86 in mountain view, 78 for millbrae across the city today it's partly cloudy. we'll keep it cool in the 60s for daly city, the sunset and richmond districts heading downtown will be in the 70s, a little bit warmer in south san francisco at 73 degrees in the north bay, partly cloudy skies. we have that heat advisory in effect, will be in the 90s in most areas. 97 in calistoga, about 92 in napa, 90 in novato, the east bay. today it is warm with partly cloudy skies. 77 oakland, 76, in berkeley, but san leandro warmer at 85. we'll hit 87. in union city, inland. this is where we have the excessive heat warning in

by a woman who's accused of driving under the influence of drugs. the woman, charged with killing officer bowen last week, was arraigned yesterday on murder charges. she will undergo a mental health competency examination to determine if she can stand trial. >> today, opponents of the proposed closure of san francisco's great highway are gearing up for another protest. more than 200 of them will deliver letters to city hall asking officials to withdraw the plan to turn the road into a park. opponents of the ballot measure want to keep the current set up, with a gray highway closed only on weekends. they say it's a lifeline for their communities. proponents want the area to become a permanent oceanfront park. today's protest starts at 1015 at the polk street steps. today we could see some activity off to the side of the bay bridge near the toll plaza. the city of oakland plans a clear out an illegal encampment along the eastern coastline. 8 to 10 homeless people have lived there for months. oakland has ordered them out because if they don't leave, the city faces fines from the

san francisco bay conservation and development commission. alameda county is reportedly working on creating sanctioned encampments. >> new. this morning, a bipartisan task force will investigate the attempted assassination of donald trump. it will be made up of seven republicans and six democrats. it's coming as more lawmakers are pushing to impeach the head of the secret service. amanda is at the live desk with the details of this task force and that hearing yesterday on capitol hill, amanda kumasi, house speaker mike johnson and house minority leader hakeem jeffries announced the task force within the last hour, and they say it will be empowered with subpoena authority and will move quickly to find the facts and ensure accountability. >> secret service director kimberly cheadle is being heavily criticized for not providing enough answers about security failures. south carolina congresswoman nancy mace filed an impeachment resolution against cheadle hours after the hearing yesterday. >> have you provided all audio and video recordings in your possession to this committee? as

night, a few minutes before midnight on willow street. that's an alleyway off van ness in the city's tenderloin neighborhood. here is surveillance video of the man police say was shot by an officer. police say they got called to investigate a report of an armed robbery that occurred on mcallister street before this all happened. a witness says he heard the commotion. he describes what happened after he heard a volley of gunfire. >> he just kind of stayed there and eventually they, like a swarm of police, just ran over and kind of tackled him. and i think they took a gun from him, or he was armed or something

like that. >> the police officers association says the suspect fired at pursuing officers when police shot back, mortally wounding the unidentified man. >> community members and family gathered yesterday to honor the birthday of a man fatally shot by san francisco police officers in 2015. mario woods would have been 35 years old. those who knew him lit candles and shared this birthday cake in front of a mural painted in his honor. his shooting death brought on controversy and scrutiny about how officers handled the situation. >> the black and brown community came together. uprise demanded question authority, and i think that's important to understand is how we make change, is we question authority. we take it to the front steps. >> an investigation found woods was armed with a knife and had slashed a victim without reason before encountering police. >> new. this morning, the community rallying behind the oasis nightclub in san francisco. employees say they were robbed at gunpoint last week, according to social media posts, four people in ski masks

broke into the lgbtq club early thursday morning and robbed the cleaning crew of their personal belongings. the suspect broke doors. they trashed the place. a gofundme was set up to help the club. it was originally $10,000. it's run, by the way, by d'arcy drollinger, who you saw there and is the drag laureate of san francisco. well, they have almost tripled that amount in the north bay. >> the novato unified school district wants parents to think twice before giving young kids smart phones. the district is considering promoting the wait until eighth pledge. parents would be asked to promise to withhold smart phones from students until they get to the eighth to the end of the eighth grade. this follows a group of girls assaulting another student at sinaloa middle school back in may. video of that assault was posted on social media. marin county superintendent of schools said he supports the pledge. last year, his office sued several social media companies, claiming they were contributing to an increase in mental health

tomorrow. today is the warmest day underneath this heat wave. by the end of the week, a significant cooldown is coming area wide, and for the weekend outlook, we will have sunshine, but high temperatures both days will be below average. so we're calling it from hot to not today. it is quite warm out there, but then that cooler air will tank our temperatures by friday, so the difference between today's highs and friday's highs close to 20 degrees cooler in our hottest cities inland. so by friday those temperatures are mainly in the 70s and in the 80s. but today it is quite warm out there. highs in our microclimates starting in the south bay. today's the hottest day of the week with the heat advisory in effect will be in the 90s. area wide along the peninsula 80 for san mateo, redwood city mountain view 60s though along the coast across the city. today we'll keep it cooler along the coast in the 60s for the sunset. the richmond district downtown were warmer at 73 degrees, with partly cloudy skies in the north bay. heat advisory is in effect 92in napa, 90 in novato, 95 in santa rosa, the east bay. it's warm, with
