reaching a ceasefire and hostage release deal. three now. protests started up at the us capitol today, with separate gatherings by pro-palestinian groups and others calling for the release of hamas hostages. bigger gatherings are planned tomorrow, including protests in san francisco. >> a 15 year old boy who lost his legs in gaza is now here in the bay area to receive prolonged medical care. >> abc seven news reporter ryan curry went to sfo today, where a large crowd was there to welcome this teenager. >> a thunderous applause as this crowd welcomes a refugee to safety. the israel-hamas war has changed ahmed's life. farhan farhan. >> he's very ecstatic and excited. >> ahmed's legs are gone. they were amputated in february after an airstrike hit him, his brother and his friend doctor mohammed suba, treated ahmed following the attack. when he

arrived to, to our field hospital, he came in with mangled lower extremities. >> both of his legs were shredded. he was bleeding out profusely. he had lost half of his body, blood volume was in hemorrhagic shock in and out of consciousness. >> doctor sub works at el camino hospital in the south bay, but has recently gone to gaza to help treat patients. ahmed's story really impacted him. >> anyone who is familiar with double amputations, most folks don't survive even in the best circumstances. so when i saw 72 hours later, ahmed waking up and smiling at me, it was a miracle. in and of itself. >> ahmed arrived here in the bay area to receive further treatment. doctor subhi says ahmed will be fitted for prosthetic legs to help him live as close to a normal life as possible. >> the hope is to be able to get him fitted with prosthetics, get him the appropriate intensive rehab so that he can do the things that most children can enjoy, and for him to be able to blossom and pursue the passions

he's always set for himself. >> but his story is one of thousands. the israel-hamas war has led to the death of 30,000 people, many of them children. that's according to the health ministry in gaza. >> he said gaza is completely decimated. it's turned upside down. there is no life left in gaza. >> both ahmed and doctor subhi are calling on leaders from all over the world to get this war to stop heating. >> our homes are all gone, all of them. we need the international community to, to fight for what's right. and that means holding leadership accountable to make sure we ask the right questions and to make sure we use the right language. because children's lives like ahmed's depend on it, hoping no more innocent lives can get hurt from the violence in san francisco. >> ryan curry abc seven news. >> what a brave young man. okay, let's turn to our heat because

it is hanging around for some of us tonight, as we look live out from our east bay hills. camera. this stretch of high temperatures may be stretching longer. abc seven news weather anchor lisa argen has what to expect in the 24 hour accuweather forecast. lisa. >> well, we do have a countdown to the cooldown because our excessive heat warning has been released race. but is being replaced by the advisory you can see in the orange there. so it's the east bay hills and valleys. the hills of the santa clara region, and also in the santa cruz mountains. this is until 11:00 tomorrow and we are looking at our hottest day behind us. look at that 107 by the delta 104 in livermore is 106 in concord. and looking at those 90s, that will be a thing of the past as we look outside. what a gorgeous view there from our sutro tower camera. it is in the 60s downtown 50s half moon bay, widespread 70s around the bay and from our exploratorium camera, we still have temperatures right around 80 degrees inland, so it's warmer than yesterday. and by tomorrow

we're going to see things really change as we get into our early morning forecast notice, the temperatures will drop off, but by tomorrow morning we're going to just stop this into the mid and upper 90s details on the seven day outlook. even cooler coming up. ama >> thank you lisa. >> in the east bay a west oakland metal recycler and two employees face felony charges in connection with a scrap yard fire last year. alameda county district attorney pamela price hit radius recycling with allegations of recklessness, conspiracy and concealing evidence. radius used to be called snitch or steal. the fire sent plumes of toxic smoke into the air for hours. we asked the company for a comment. they have not responded to our request. >> also in oakland, the city council's public safety committee has unanimously given its approval to spend more than $6 million to fix a flawed 9-1-1 system. it's a story our abc seven news i-team has been

covering. according to a report obtained by the i-team last year, the department determined the motorola software was difficult to use, leading to increased report times in the issues were unable to be resolved. the city's it department recommended a new purchase with another tech company to replace opd's record management system with a modern software called mark 43 that's fully cloud hosted. >> the work of it doesn't always get appreciated because it only tends to get tech, get press coverage when it goes wrong. so i want to say we have an it team before us here tonight doing something right. >> the new system is being heavily vetted after the city's massive 2023 data leak. personal data was exposed and city services were taken offline. during that incident. >> the idea that any of these records are secure is naive, and we see these data breaches consistently. and so it's really put the population at a much more vulnerable place. >> the full oakland council will take up the contract during a meeting scheduled one week from

tonight. meanwhile, the police staffing situation in san francisco is something we have long covered here at 11, and tonight we are seeing some bitter fighting over how to best address it. a new program will now be placed on the november ballot. it's called the deferred retirement option. the board of supervisors approved the ballot measure today 8 to 3. if passed by voters, it would allow officers to defer their retirement to then get an additional pay bump if they agree to perform neighborhood patrol or investigative work. it could raise some officers salary to nearly $500,000 a year. >> we don't need to throw money away at 25 year officers that are just going to game the system and retire earlier than they would have, because they can get an additional stay the whole five years, half $1 million when they retire above their half million dollar salary. >> supervisor matt dorsey argues this will help retain officers who would otherwise retire and

santa clara county prosecutors says. harris, 79 year old roommate, attacked her in their room. >> i saw my grandmother with bruises. a bleeding, swollen eye, broken teeth. i mean, it was very, very brutal. >> court documents show the roommate had attacked someone else at the nursing home eight months earlier. her family is now suing the nursing home, saying she shouldn't have been sharing a room with someone with a history of violence. >> if it happens at a nice high end care facility like mission skilled, owned by covenant care, a massive corporation, what? how is it like at lesser, less expensive facilities? >> last month, prosecutors charged the roommate with elder abuse and assault with a deadly weapon. the criminal case is on hold as the court looks into the suspect's mental competency. we reached out to the nursing home and have not heard back. in a statement to our media partners at the bay area news group earlier this month, the company said it was shocked and saddened

by clarissa's death. they say, quote, we are working with the resident's family in an effort to seek resolution and will fully cooperate with applicable authorities as this matter is investigated. >> tonight, the senate unanimously passed a bill aimed at protecting victims of deep, fake, sexually explicit images generated by artificial intelligence. the bill clarifies that existing laws against the distribution of intimate images without someone's consent also applied to deepfake images. a deepfake is a digitally altered image of a person's face or body, so they appear to be someone else. the bill also gives victims the power to sue those who create, distribute, receive, or possess such images without consent. the bill now heads to the house. >> delta airlines canceled another 500 plus flights globally today, the fifth straight day of chaos after last week's crowdstrike it outage. the u.s. department of transportation is now going to open a federal investigation into delta's troubled recovery from this. the department of

transportation says it would also investigate consumer complaints, accusing delta of not honoring refund requests and the lack of timely customer service. transportation secretary pete buttigieg vows to hold the airline accountable. >> we estimate that more than half a million passengers have been impacted by this, so we're not taking this step lightly. but clearly there is something unique to delta that requires specific attention. reporter delta today announced it would set up a baggage command center in atlanta to reunite checked bags with their rightful owners. >> we are all about building a better bay area here, not just for people, but for our pets as well. so when we saw the stats on dog rescues at one san francisco firehouse, we just had to dig deeper. the city is giving a special honor to the firefighters behind hundreds of rescues at fort funston. it was a party at city hall tuesday for the retrievers of retrievers.

>> the members of station 19 not only protect the people of the west side, but also our furry companions. these firefighters respond to fires and medical calls and all your usual emergencies. >> but now, san francisco is giving them a special commendation for their impressive record on animal rescues. we have not lost any dogs under their watch, >> they have never failed a cliff rescue either. the city has a lot of dogs and a lot of cliffs, and a lot of dogs stuck on cliffs, which is how the firefighters of station 19 next to the stonestown shopping center became pros at saving pups and the occasional person from rough situations. >> the past five years, we've had several hundred canine rescues as well as many human rescues. just in the fort. >> fun scenario from doodles to poodles, mutts and mixes, they have carried out nearly 250 dog rescues since 2019. this year, they're up to 20 already. >> we've prepared and trained,

into reno. but otherwise you can see a little bit of moisture to the south and west of us. that really not an element. we thought perhaps we could see some of that subtropical moisture right now, watching the temperatures still in the 80s from livermore concord at 82, 84, in brentwood, upper 60s sfo. and you notice it is still quite mild out there with 60s and 70s up through the north bay. look at that. 89 in vacaville. so from san jose tonight the heat advisory continues for north bay interior mountains, our east bay hills and also the santa cruz mountains and the east santa clara hills through tomorrow 11:00. and by the end of the week, we are breezy and much cooler. so it's going to take another 24 to 48 hours to really get the cooling trend underway. we'll be below average to start out the weekend, and then temperatures coming up just a little bit for sunday. here's a look at your morning temperatures still mild 60s to near 70. but those 50s moving up through the north bay and the cloud cover well it's going to

be patchy. the low clouds. this is sunrise tomorrow. and you notice the fog is along the san mateo coast, the marin county coastline. but that's about it. it's another sunny and warm afternoon for wednesday. but by thursday morning look at the fog moving back up into the north bay. and then eventually by friday, it is much more widespread and it's going to take a while to burn back, so temperatures will be much cooler. check it out from friday in the mid 80s to the low 80s on saturday, and then by sunday just a little bit of moderation there. highs tomorrow, upper 90s concord 91, in san jose, upper 80s in the north bay. that's why that advisory has been dropped. not too hot there. 78 in oakland, 73 downtown. the accuweather seven day forecast notice a couple of hot days and then we're into below average and slowly getting back to and slowly getting back to normal you can't leave without cuddles. but, you also can't leave covered in hair. with bounce pet, you can cuddle and brush that hair off.
