keep working for the american public in his final months in office. abc seven news reporter tim johns joined people in san francisco watching the president's words, and has their reaction to this unprecedented turn in the presidential race. >> dozens gathered at manny's in san francisco wednesday, eager to watch president biden's historic address to the nation. the highly anticipated event saw the president explain his decision to no longer run for reelection in november, as well as what his plans were for the rest of his time in office. >> this is the first time since 1968 that a sitting president has chosen not to run for reelection. a huge moment in american politics. >> during the speech, biden highlighted his most valued accomplishments over the last four years and talked about the need to continue to unite the country. his message resonating with viewers like lily lamboy, who says she became emotional watching the president speak. >> i actually think i've walled off a lot of my feelings and emotions around politics because i felt so hopeless over the last few weeks, biden also taking time to note the importance of

convention next month in san francisco. tim johns, abc seven news. >> the democratic national convention's rules committee approved a plan to pick their nominee. candidates have until july 30th to prove that they qualify. delegates will start casting their virtual votes next thursday, august first. more than enough delegates have pledged their support for kamala harris to win her spot as the nominee, so she is the presumptive nominee at this point. they will declare their official nominee by august 7th. the weekend of august 19th. celebratory ceremonial votes will be cast at the chicago convention. vice president harris and former president trump both made campaign stops today. a harris rallying members of a historically black sorority as trump attacked her record as a prosecutor in san francisco and as vice president lion kamala harris has been the ultra liberal driving force behind every single biden catastrophe. >> she is a radical left lunatic who will destroy our country.

that could be used to make 200 pills in a single minute. abc7 news reporter j.r stone talked with neighbors who are angry this evening. >> this window may be dirty, but look closer. you can see law enforcement officers armed with guns seconds before they executed a search warrant. >> yesterday i was at work and i got a phone call from my husband saying that the fbi agents were here inside the santa rosa home. >> police say they found a pill press, a device used to make pills. in this case, authorities say a pink powdery residue was all over the device and there were still pills inside of it. police confirmed the presence of mdma, also known as ecstasy or molly. >> yeah, that's very concerning. >> i have children that live here and i don't need drugs in my neighborhood. >> neighbors are very angered that this pill press, which was later put in the back of this pickup truck by authorities, was even in the home, a location

inside of jw wilson elementary school in santa rosa, hoping that they are going to catch him and put him in jail. >> the fact that he's doing drugs in here and i didn't know that. i mean, that makes me nervous. how do i know he's not going to blow up his house at last check. >> no arrests have been made. and neighbors tell me that after the narcotics team was here on tuesday, the man who lives in this home actually showed back up. but that was only for a short time. according to those in the area, police haven't said if they are actively looking for him, but neighbors were told to report his whereabouts. if he's spotted everyone telling us they are well aware of the person living here. >> creepy. how so? uh- just off a bad vibe. >> i just feel uncomfortable living next door to him. >> authorities say they started this investigation into a person distributing large quantities of mdma and other counterfeit pills to santa rosa and surrounding

communities. j.r stone, abc seven news. >> we are tracking a dangerous situation up near chico tonight as a fast moving wildfire forces evacuations. the park fire is exploding tonight, burning 6400 acres in the eight hours since it started. time lapse video shows the flames burning right up to the camera, still spreading quickly. there are evacuations northeast of chico, with only 3% containment tonight in sonoma county, firefighters have stopped forward progress on a fire that sparked today. >> the flora fire started this afternoon off chalk hill road in geyserville. it stopped at about 50 acres and is now 35% contained. crews will stay in that area overnight, building containment and putting out hot spots. and we're finally shaking off the hot temperatures tonight, looking live from our sutro tower camera. cooler weather is on the way for spots stuck in the 90s for days now. abc seven news weather anchor spencer christian is tracking a cooldown in your 24 hour

accuweather forecast. >> spencer dan, it's coming our way. we're happy about it, too. the heat advisory we had in effect for the last couple of days, expired just as we were going on the air tonight. still, though, you can see it's pretty warm in our inland or inland areas right now. upper 70s to low 80s at this hour of the night. but we won't be seeing temperature readings like that at this hour in the coming nights. so for the day ahead, this is what how things are shaping up. 7:00 tomorrow morning, there will be some lingering low clouds and fog near the coast of bay temperatures, mainly in the 60s. by noon, brighter skies, mainly sunny but mid 80s in our inland areas, mid 70s around the bay shoreline. we'll see high temperatures getting up to the low to mid 90s inland tomorrow, but no triple digits under sunny afternoon skies up to about 80 around the bay shoreline. and then about 7:00 tomorrow evening as we get into the middle evening hours, still holding on to some warmth in the inland areas. low to mid 80s generally, but only low 70s around the bay, and there are much cooler days to come our way and many of them. i will show you in my accuweather seven day forecast in a few minutes. dan and ama all right. >> thank you so much spencer.

parents in the east bay just found out their kids school is closing for repairs. students at stege elementary school in richmond are being relocated for the start of the school year. the west contra costa county school district says environmental hazards were discovered during summer repair work. it's not clear yet where students will go to class when the school year begins. next month. the closure comes as the school district is facing a first in the state lawsuit, calling out dangerous facilities and chronic staffing shortages at stege and other campuses. >> much of our reporting is focused on building a better bay area, so when our communities test out possible solutions to some big problems, we want to see how they work and a new report shows the impact of two of san francisco's programs to take some work off police officers plates. the focus is on the city's street crisis response team, helping people experiencing mental health crisis and the street overdose response team handling, of course, drug overdoses. both programs redirect certain 911

today, the airline apologized for the widespread problems following last friday's global it outage. delta says it will reimburse travelers for flights they booked on other airlines during the meltdown. it also plans to issue 10,000 bonus miles, but these bags remain unclaimed at atlanta international airport. passengers are not happy. >> i've never seen such a chaotic scenario with bags everywhere. >> this is the worst experience i've ever had in my 35 years of business travel. >> delta says it saw a significant return to business as usual today. >> a small city and santa cruz county could get a new fire station if voters give the okay, this is a rendering of a possible replacement station for scotts valley. voters will decide in november whether to approve it after the local fire protection district board moved the plan forward. the board says the existing station is aging and simply doesn't not meet building standards. they also say an improved station could be a better hub for fire or storm

emergencies. both of which have affected that area. of course, a new costco is coming to the east bay. >> officials in brentwood broke ground on the store this week. it's located near lone tree way and heaton ranch road, west of highway four. costco will be in brentwood's innovation center. it's part of a larger plan for a mixed use community with retail space, apartments and townhomes. costco is expected to open early next year. joby aviation just announced a big stride in bay area tech innovation. it's hydrogen electric aircraft completed a 523 mile flight above monterey county in june. this is believed to be the first forward flight of a vertical takeoff and landing aircraft, powered by liquid liquid hydrogen. the trip was part of its air taxi development program, and these emissions free journeys are aligned with california's goals in clean energy. >> all right, check this out. a funky home in san francisco is for sale, and it is turning some heads, some are calling it more of a museum really, than a house. take a look inside this

this cool down. the high pressure system that had brought us the heat wave, the last several days is sliding eastward trough of low pressure, bringing a cooling influence from up in the pacific northwest is diving down in our direction, and it's already generating a cooling onshore flow there. the breezes were a bit more vigorous early in the evening, but the air is cooler and we're going to see a return of the marine layer, which provides cooling overnight and keeps the daytime weather from heating up too much. right now, the 24 hour temperature change shows that most locations almost all, in fact, are two, four, or five degrees cooler than they were at this time last night. looking out over san francisco from sutro tower. check out the current temperature reading 63 degrees in the city right now. oakland 67. we have low 70s at hayward, san jose, redwood city at 61 at half moon bay. nice view from mount tam looking down onto the bay and on to san francisco. notice just a little thin sliver of some ocean moisture moving out over the bay, but no marine layer developing yet. 62 degrees right now in santa rosa, petaluma, 5768 at napa and mid to upper 70s at fairfield,

concord and livermore. even those what were hot inland areas today are cooling down right now. and these are our forecast headlines. today's heat advisory has expired. the cooling is beginning already. tomorrow and friday will be breezy and much cooler than these last couple of days. and over the weekend we'll have even below average temperatures as the cooling continues. even then and into early next week. overnight, we'll see a little bit of a marine layer developing, pushing locally out over the bay and sort of lingering along the coastline and there'll be pockets of drizzle offshore not likely to move on land and produce any wet weather in the morning. overnight, low temperatures will be generally in the upper 50s to low and mid 60s. high temperatures tomorrow low 60s at the coast, mid 70s to up to about 80 degrees around the bay shoreline. inland areas will still be warm, low to mid 90s in many locations where we've had triple digits the last several days. and here is the accuweather seven day forecast. and notice how that those temperatures just drop, drop, drop going into saturday when we'll have below average temperatures. actually, inland
