move in here. we're running several degrees cooler right now compared to this time yesterday morning. we're in the upper 50s to the upper 60s around the bay shoreline, a little bit warmer inland, where some areas like danville are still in the low 70s. it's a similar story in clear lake, but today our heat advisories are over. we'll start to see cooler air continue to move in as we head into the afternoon. here's the inland forecast today. we'll have temperatures in the 90s, but not as hot as we have been the past couple of days. we're a little bit slower to warm throughout the morning. mid 90s is going to be our hottest areas later on today around the bay shoreline. it does feel a lot cooler today. will be in the 60s and 70s with sunny skies this afternoon and then along the coast. we will keep that marine layer with us for much of the day. yesterday we saw ample sunshine. today we're seeing that cloud cover hug the coast. we'll see our daytime highs mainly in the low and mid 60s. let's check in with amanda and see those drive times. >> good morning drew. we're going to take a live look from our golden gate bridge. cam. you can see fog really engulfing it right now. there is a fog

advisory issued for the golden gate at this hour you can see nothing really in your way other than that fog. as you make your way into or out of the city, but a clear, calm and easy commute through san jose southbound and northbound 87. as you see, moving pretty smoothly there and then green across our overall map. that's minus the typical slowdown on the altamont pass. we'll take a look at drive times. 38 minutes tracy to dublin, san rafael to san francisco. that will take you 17 minutes. and then a 14 minute trek from antioch to concord. back to you at the desk. >> amanda. thank you. new this morning, southwest just announced some major changes, saying it's ditching its open seating policy and will begin assigning seats. this is a historic shift. southwest is known for that first come, first seated boarding policy. abc seven news reporter lena howland is live at san francisco bay, oakland international airport. selena, why are they switching this up? >> well, reggie, despite holding on to this seating model for more than 50 years, southwest says customer preferences have

evolved. they say the goal behind doing this is to elevate the customer experience, improve financial performance, and also drive shareholder value. now take a look at your screen right now. these are the three changes. southwest is making. and shifting to assigned seats. isn't the only change. the airline will also offer premium seating options, and for the first time, they'll be adding some overnight red eye flights, though none are out of the bay area just yet. southwest says more customers are taking longer flights where they'd rather prefer assigned seats, and while the cabin layout details are still being worked out, the airline says they expect about one third of seats across the plane to offer extended legroom, similar to what passengers already see on other airlines. in a press release, southwest said that when a customer chooses to stop flying with them and picks a competitor instead, open seating is cited as the number one reason for the change according to their own research, 80% of existing southwest

customers prefer in assigned seats and 86% of potential customers prefer an assigned seat. it's not clear exactly when these seating changes will take effect, but we can tell you that many of those red eye flights are already up for sale. they are expected to take flights starting mid-february of next year. live in oakland. lena howland abc seven news. >> thanks, lena. today president biden will welcome israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu to the oval office, just a day after a fiery speech to congress. amanda, this is going to be the first face to face meeting between these two leaders since israel's war with hamas started. >> and reggie, today's meeting is also president biden's first meeting with a world leader since announcing he would drop out of the 2024 presidential race, it comes at a fragile time for their relationship, president biden has firmly remained behind israel, even as netanyahu's campaign to eliminate hamas has killed tens of thousands of palestinians in gaza. netanyahu was met with

yesterday, saying he had a great meeting but did not say specifically who he met with. he denied reports that he's giving $45 million a month to former president trump. >> at no point did i say that i was doing any $45 million a month to trump. that was a fiction made up by the wall street journal. >> so what are you expecting to hear from? >> when asked how much he plans to give to trump's campaign, musk said he plans to spend money on, quote, election integrity and enabling people to vote. a massive crowd showed up at bojangles coliseum in charlotte, north carolina, yesterday for former president trump's first public rally since the assassination attempt. it was also his first event since vice president harris became the presumptive democratic presidential nominee three and a half years. >> lion kamala harris has been the ultra liberal driving force behind every single biden catastrophe. she is a radical left lunatic who will destroy our country if she ever gets the

president biden and vice president harris. on the first episode of his new podcast, politicking, he said he was in the gym when the president announced he was dropping out. >> did president biden call you? i get all these text messages from the white house saying the president is trying to get in touch, but i didn't even see them. >> governor newsom posted this video snippet on x announcing the podcast with marshawn lynch and his agent. the governor says he missed calls from both biden and harris in the moments after biden's announcement, lynch asked the governor why he isn't running for president, and governor newsom never answered that question. >> time now approaching 510 this morning, we are seeing cooler weather move in. over the next couple of days, you'll begin to feel it today with those temperatures still warm, but just not as hot as the past couple of days. but by saturday, those temperatures really tank. so between today and saturday, we'll see nearly a 14 degree drop in our warmest cities. by saturday, our warmest areas struggling to hit 80 degrees. so we kick off the upcoming weekend

on a cooler than average note. believe it or not, it's hard to say that after the warm week we have had. good morning san jose. right now, the temperature is 68 degrees. we have clear skies and the winds are calm with high humidity levels. the forecast today will call for an area wide cool down. we're back into the 60s across the city. after several days in the 70s. oakland quite nice at 7589. in san jose, no longer underneath the heat advisory and walnut creek backing off that heat is slowly retreating, but it still feels warm today, with a high of 93 degrees. here's future weather as we go. hour by hour for you. you do notice around lunchtime we're in the 70s and 80s for the most part. we'll keep clouds along the coast all day long, and then our warmest areas inland today, mainly in the low and mid 90s around the bay shoreline. we're in the 70s and in the 80s, so today we'll hit a high of 68 in the city, 75 in oakland, 89 in san jose, 94 in concord, 84 in napa. the weekend, though again, significantly cooler. we'll show you those numbers coming up in about eight minutes. reggie. >> drew, thank you. we're still

may be closer than you think. ready to meet the dream team? you can with wells fargo. 45,000 acres since it started. now this is new video showing these intense flames. there are evacuations northeast of chico with only 3% containment this morning in sonoma county, firefighters have stopped forward progress on a fire that sparked yesterday. >> the flora fire started near chalk hill road in geyserville. it stopped at about 50 acres and it's now 35% contained. crews have been working overnight to

build containment and put out hot spots. one of the bay area's biggest wine companies has filed for bankruptcy. vintage wine estates in santa rosa is trying to pay off the company's debt and find a home for its assets. the company says it has sold property and equipment from cosentino, one of its napa valley wineries, for $10.5 million. it's also delisting from the nasdaq, which requires a minimum price of at least $1 a share. vui is the parent company of wineries including girard and burr, conn. >> paris in the east bay just found out their children's school is closing for repairs. amanda officials say stose elementary school in richmond is too dangerous for students. >> kumasi. the west contra costa county school district says environmental hazards were discovered during summer repair work, but it's not clear yet where students will attend class when the school year begins next month. the closure comes as the school district is facing a first in the state lawsuit, calling out dangerous facilities

and chronic staffing shortages at steeg and other campuses. they say in the suit, the district failed to provide the basic tools for a quality education there at steeg elementary school, helms middle school and kennedy high school. according to edsource. superintendent hurst stated at a recent board meeting that the district human resources team is working hard to fill hundreds of open positions. back to you at the desk, kumasi. >> thanks, amanda. organizers are making one last push to help south bay families in need ahead of the start of the new school year. sacred heart community service in san jose has one more week to get 1000 more backpacks for students. the group's annual school supply giveaway is critical in this time of high prices. >> it is a big need because it helps parents families, not stress about it, and it helps them a lot in their financial because right now, everybody all a lot of families here in the bay area are struggling and us doing this, we'll lift a lot of stress from them and also get

year. >> right? right, right. >> i don't know totally where that came from, but now we know. >> yeah we know. good to know. >> this morning. let's go outside to the exploratorium camera this morning where you can see that we do have mainly clear skies here. what we'll find is that cooler weather begins to move in here throughout the afternoon. so a look at the day planner today. we do have some patchy fog along the coast right now. some coastal drizzle. your sunrise here at 608 this morning. it will be a sunny day out there, but we will have cooler weather finally moving in here this afternoon. now inland we'll have those temperatures mainly in the mid and upper 90s around the bay shoreline. it's still warm, just not as warm as it has been the past couple of days. and along the coast will keep it in the mid 60s. here's the reason why changes are finally coming. high pressure that is now anchored over southern california. that was the muscle maker. the heat pump of our forecast. now we have these two areas of low pressure. they're going to link up. this low is essentially going to move right into northern california and break the heat across the region. so highs today the cooling trend

begins. look in the south bay 80s and 90s out there. but no heat advisories in effect today along the peninsula. it is quite cloudy along the coast today, but still warm for san mateo palo alto in the 80s. across the city today we'll see a lot more cloud cover. cooler temperatures. today, the cloud cover will break around twin peaks around 11 a.m. the western half of the city is pretty cloudy all day long. in the north bay. it's warm. 88 novato 87. in sonoma, 88. in vallejo in the east bay. it's mild, 75 in oakland, but 84 in fremont, which is cooler than yesterday when we were in the 90s. and then inland. it is warm, but we don't have any heat advisories in effect with temperatures in the 90s overnight tonight we'll see more fog developing and even cooler night on the way with temperatures in the 50s. now friday that cool down continues and accelerates. the heat really retreats our warmest areas tomorrow low in mid 80s. that feels nice. now watch saturday. saturday is going to feel pretty chilly, relatively speaking, compared to the rest of the week. we have temperatures below

at 72 degrees. but the big story today is our cooling trend gets underway here. no heat advisories in effect inland today, but it is still warm. just not as hot as we have been the past couple of days. daytime highs going into the low and mid 90s later on today in our warmest cities inland around the bay shoreline, it's a nice day, cooler than yesterday. will mainly stay in the 70s. later on this afternoon with full sunshine, but along the coast our marine layer is going to be very persistent. yesterday we saw ample sunshine along the coast. today the clouds will cling to it and that will keep temperatures in the low and mid 60s for daytime highs. let's take a look at those drive times amanda good morning. >> yeah good morning drew here at 530. we're going to start in pleasanton where a two vehicle crash at southbound 680 after bernal avenue is slowing things down to about eight miles per hour. and it also has the left lane shut down. if you are looking to avoid this area, maybe take foothill road instead. and then we want to take you to the south bay, where we are getting reports of a brush fire. this is on southbound 880 before 101. it is slowing things down there to

about 45mph. this still photo provided by caltrans. at about 523. you can see that smoke on the right hand side just after those trees right there. we're continuing to ask questions to see what's going on and what the situation is, but just be alert as it is slowing things down again. san jose 101 and 880. >> today we're expected to learn who will join a bipartisan task force investigating the attempted assassination of former president trump. we also have new details this morning about the actions of the accused shooter. in the hours and minutes before the attempted assassination, federal officials say the gun seen in officer's helmet video had a collapsible stock, making it easier to conceal and carry. fbi director christopher wray told the house judiciary committee the gunman flew a drone near the rally before trump took the stage, was flying the drone around the area, not over the stage. >> i would say about 200 yards, give or take away. >> the fbi director also

a federal judge has ruled lizelle. against the local sheriff and prosecutors can move forward. texas has one of the country's most restrictive abortion laws in the country. however, women seeking an abortion are exempt from criminal charges. prosecutors have said charging gonzalez was a mistake and the charges were dropped quickly. gonzalez is seeking $1 million in damages starting on monday. people in iowa will not be allowed to get an abortion once a fetal heartbeat is detected, which is usually around six weeks. this comes after the iowa supreme court denied planned parenthood's request to rehear a challenge to the law. it's a big win for people who have been pushing for more restrictions on abortion. >> pro-life movement has been working endlessly and tirelessly to see that women and families are protected. >> iowa's law would have exceptions for cases of rape, incest and medical emergencies. some doctors say the government is overstepping, and the bottom line is pregnancy is too
