in downtown oakland. that station is closed, as is the 19th street, lake merritt and fruitvale stations. bart says it has a power loss on the tracks and bart just posted that there is no green line service between berryessa and daly city. there's no red line service between richmond and millbrae. trains are turning, turning back at ashby, rockridge, west oakland and coliseum stations, and we do have a crew on the way to the scene. we'll update you as we learn more. we want to thank you for joining us. i'm zach fuentes. we're also tracking multiple wildfires across northern california, from the cleanup to the conditions to the very active fire fight. so let's start with that new fire that just sparked in gilroy. this is a time lapse of the fire burning near laurel drive in uvas park drive. it's right by a levee near christmas hill park, which is where the garlic festival used to happen. we're hearing it's burned 2 to 3 acres so far, so we will update you as we find out more. and now to the park. fire in butte and tehama counties, becoming california's seventh largest fire on record in just a matter of days. it has

burned more than 350,000 acres with no containment. the fire has destroyed at least 134 buildings with thousands more threatened. firefighters are still dealing with extreme fire behavior, though the weather is getting better. abc news reporter jacqueline lee joins us from a neighborhood still smoldering tonight. >> zach, in the last 24 hours, the fire nearly doubled in size and you can see why it's moving so quickly. and it is destroying almost anything in its path. more than 4000 people have been forced to evacuate. here you can see why this is someone's home. and over here you can see the fire is still fresh. it's still smoldering over in what used to be the kitchen. now the race is for on firefighters to get this fire under control. it is erratic, it is moving very quickly and a heat wave is coming up. zach. >> jacqueline. thank you. and we want to show you just how fast this fire exploded in a matter of days. here on the left is the area burned on thursday about 24 hours after this fire started. now in the middle is friday and on the right is this morning. an

area bigger than the size of los angeles burned in just 72 hours, and the park fire is devastating on so many levels for the families who lost their homes and for survivors of past fires. watching destruction unfold all over again. the entire town of paradise is still under an evacuation warning tonight, and they're still rebuilding after the 2018 camp fire, which killed 85 of their neighbors and destroyed pretty much the whole town. >> sometimes it gets you kind of emotionally. yes. there's a fire back there. yes. people's houses are being destroyed. yes. we've got over 1000 firemen out there, firemen, firewomen, firefighters out there risking their lives to keep us safe. >> now things have changed in paradise since the camp fire. butte county is sending out more emergency alerts to cell phones so that more people get the message. and the town now has 21 towers with evacuation sirens to warn people as a last resort. now, satellite images show that massive plume of smoke from the park fire blanketing the skies over part of northern california. it's working its way

down into the north bay today, and in the east bay, many families forced out by the point fire are back home tonight. that fire burned about 470 acres last night, with containment now at 40% retardant. drops may have helped save these houses, but it did also make a mess. abc seven news reporter suzanne phan is in one of the neighborhoods where people are cleaning up. >> thank god. i'm so grateful that, the house is here. >> eleonora schwartz thankful for the firefighters who saved her home from the point fire. it blackened hundreds of acres as it raced across ridges and down hillsides, coming right up to her neighbor's property. >> the fire was real close to these people's house, and they were running out with bags in their hand. >> abc seven news talked to schwartz friday as she, her husband and dog evacuated their home. her vehicle was hit by retardant right after his sheriff's deputies arrived on her doorstep and ordered her and neighbors to leave, just as they said that the helicopter passed and drench us on this saturday,

streets are painted pink. it's the aftermath of all the fire retardant dumped on homes in this bay point neighborhood. families who evacuated have been allowed to come back. scott malone returned and realized retardant is covering everything yards, homes, cars, even playgrounds. >> my wife referred to as barbie ville or something. it was so pink. they told us it's water soluble so it should wash off. >> this afternoon we saw neighbor after neighbor cleaning washing retardant off homes and scrubbing the remnants off their cars. kevin pereira knows it won't be a quick process. it's going to take a few days. pereira says. the fire that marched toward his home terrified him. the aerial attacks, including the retardant drops, literally hit home. >> i could see the helicopter like spray the, the retardant, right, and, man, it was a scary moment. i was i was scared for these neighbors over here.

>> cal fire says these aerial attacks were a critical weapon against the fire. >> there were multiple air tankers there as well as helicopters. and the air tankers are there to put in retardant drops. that helps slow the spread of the fire. >> firefighters now say they have the upper hand on the point. fire neighbor eleanor schwartz counts it as a blessing that the danger in her neighborhood has passed. >> i think we are kind of a thankful that, we could come back to the house because when things like this happen, people come back to nothing. >> and here's a closer look at all the retardant that's been dropped on this neighborhood during the joint fire crews have been battling gusty winds as well as dry conditions. but the good news is no homes have been damaged in this fire in bay point, suzanne phan. abc seven news and firefighters across the state are getting a break from this brutal weather. >> abc seven news weather anchor spencer christian is tracking the conditions. spencer, how are things looking? >> well, zach, all across northern california right now, weather conditions are improving in terms of bringing down

concerns about fire. but let me give you a look at the satellite image once again of the park fire near chico. as you can see, that big plume of smoke you showed earlier still drifting mainly off to the east, but upper level winds are shifting right now. some of that smoke may be working its way down into the bay area, but so far it's having no effect on our air quality. now here's the bigger picture showing what's going on across the entire northern part of the state. relative humidity is increasing significantly. temperatures are dropping sharply, but the wind is still gusty and strong, which is problematic in trying to contain gain. any containment in the park fire. here in the bay area, though, we've got quite a cool down. as you can see from yesterday, this time to now, we're about anywhere from ten to almost 20 degrees cooler. and even in the northern sacramento valley, where the park fire is raging, temperatures are 20 to 30 degrees lower than they were the last couple of days. but still, that wind is problematic. i'll have more on our local weather coming up a little bit later. >> zach. we'll check back in with you soon. spencer. thank you. and many firefighters are working 48 hour shifts to try

and stop the creek fire that's burning in alameda county in the snow regional wilderness. and firefighters say it's spreading north from welch creek road. it's 734 acres with 5% containment right now, 14 homes are under mandatory evacuation at this point. and the steep terrain there is posing challenges for firefighters. they're also dealing with limited resources. with so many fires happening across the state, you can track those wildfires with our interactive wildfire tracker. just go to abc seven news.com/fire map. now to new developments from the fatal crash at devil's slide. yesterday, the body of a third person was found during the recovery of the car from the cliffside. today, crews did shut down highway one between pacifica and montara this morning, while they retrieved the vehicle and bodies. it landed more than 300ft down an embankment yesterday. now, the cause of the crash is under investigation and the victims have not been identified yet. well, the oakland ballers are responding to accusations by an agent that the team mistreated its players on and off the

field. the agent says the ballers mishandled the player's injury and that players lived in overcrowded rooms. that agent also expressed concern about player safety, saying a ballers player was robbed at gunpoint at some point this season. the ballers posted a lengthy statement on x that said the team has addressed the concerns, saying in part, quote, although it's been very difficult, we stand by our recent decisions. however, we do acknowledge that we have not communicated these matters well to date and we will do better in the future. and after today, to help the elderly people displaced by a fire at a senior housing facility in san francisco in may, more than 100 residents were displaced from the jones senior homes apartment building on fillmore street. today, the groups asians are strong and the korean community center of the east bay coordinated a giveaway for them. they handed out rice cookers, hot water boilers and bags of rice. they also gave away food. on thursday, uber rides to doctor's appointments were also donated by the group compassion in oakland. the community really coming together, they're all

rally planned in minnesota tonight. now to new information in the effort to force the sale of or ban tiktok, documents filed with the federal appeals court accused tiktok and its beijing based parent company of secretly collecting sensitive data, including the views of american users on divisive issues like gun control, abortion and religion. the department of justice filing was a response to tiktok's challenge of a new federal law requiring bytedance to sell the popular app by mid january, or face a us ban. the case is scheduled for september. the lawsuits are piling up for dublin based patelco credit union after a cyber attack took down their systems last month. our partners at the bay area news group report patelco is facing at least ten lawsuits in state and federal court, and if the suit succeeds, patelco could have to pay out as much as $5 billion. all right. it's a san francisco tradition. great for runners and rough for drivers, counting down to the san francisco marathon, taking off and making for traffic headaches across the

the bay area and certainly cooler than yesterday. and yesterday was pretty cool. it's 17 degrees cooler in concord right now than at this time yesterday. 14 degrees cooler in livermore and the cooldown is less dramatic as you get closer to the coast and the bay. here's a view of the marine layer moving out over the bay from mount tam, 58 degrees. here in the city right now we have low 60s at oakland and hayward. mid to upper 60s at san jose and redwood city, 57 at half moon bay. and of course, this is a view from under the marine layer looking northward from the golden gate bridge. other temperature readings right now up in santa rosa, 70 degrees 61 at petaluma. napa 65. also 65 at concord, ma. fairfield is one of our warmer spots. fairfield and santa rosa and 62 at livermore. on we go to the forecast headlines below average temperatures will be with us tomorrow, monday and tuesday. then we'll see some minor warming beginning midweek next week. so wednesday into friday we'll see a gradual increase in temperatures. but typical summer warmth will bounce back next weekend. and carry us into the

following week. for tonight, we'll see that marine layer spreading across the bay and locally inland and of course deepening along the coastline. there'll be pockets of drizzle not only offshore but over some of the land areas as well, near the coast and bay, much like the pattern we had this morning. so be on the lookout for some damp spots in the early morning hours. overnight, low temperatures will be mainly in a fairly narrow range, mid to upper 50s and highs tomorrow about 60 at half moon bay, 65 here in san francisco. across the bay at oakland 69 a few low 70s low to mid 70s around the bay shoreline. inland areas will warm to the low to mid 80s tomorrow, but not much more than that. here's the accuweather seven day forecast. a gradual increase in temperatures on monday and tuesday, about two degrees each day near the coast, not near the coast, rather, but near the bay and in our inland areas up to about 90 in the warmest inland spots on wednesday and then we see more typical range of highs developing towards the end of next week, as this starts to feel a little bit more like summer and day.
