hear from a neighbor facing the flames of a wildfire near chico. the one move by a firefighter that a man says saved his barn and a call for justice. growing louder here in the bay area and across the nation after police kill a woman inside her home. abc seven news starts now. >> always live abc seven news starts right now. >> bart service is slowly getting back to normal, following an electrical issue that knocked out service along certain routes and closed down several stations. thanks for joining us. i'm j.r stone. bart is still not operating at 100% following yesterday's equipment issue. here's a quick breakdown of the impact a blown breaker at a substation around five yesterday afternoon. essentially short circuited the track, disrupting service between 12th street, oakland and fruitvale stations. it led to the closure

of four stations 12th street, oakland, 19th street, oakland, fruitvale and lake merritt. there was no green line service between berryessa and daly city, and no red line service between richmond and millbrae. about 16 hours later, around noon today, service resumed at the stations. the closed oakland stations, but the red line is still out of service and there are residual delays for many passengers of about ten minutes. abc seven news reporter cornell bernard has new developments in this story. >> i feel angry, i feel like, how could this happen? >> angela brennan says this isn't the way she wanted to spend her sunday on bart. >> i came from antioch and i'm trying to get to san francisco, and i can't get there because the trains are down and it cost me an appointment that i had made months ago. >> even angela's little dog seemed upset. bart says systemwide delays this weekend were caused by an electrical fire saturday night near the

oakland 12th street station. smoke could be seen billowing out onto the streets. >> that fire, you know, burned through some wires and cables and it essentially cut power to that core part of our oakland system. >> about 300 passengers were stuck inside two train cars for about 30 minutes. they had to be evacuated through a smoky tunnel between the 12th and 19th street stations. >> thankfully, our ventilation system worked as it was supposed to and got the smoke out of the area. we were able to evacuate all of those riders safely and there were no injuries. it was a bit scary just because we didn't know what was going on. >> but after they evacuated us, we were like, fine. >> four bart stations in oakland lost power and had to close saturday. bus bridges took riders around the closures, even after the oakland stations reopened, there were still train delays well into the afternoon. >> appreciate cooperation again. this is due to an ongoing power issue between here in 19th street, oakland. the red line was out of service sunday between richmond and san francisco. >> passengers needed to transfer in oakland today. >> i'm trying to get to hayward.

>> has that been tough? >> oh, it's been a little bit of a nightmare, at least. mostly getting out of west oakland. >> bart says it doesn't know yet what caused the electrical fire. >> you know, we're going to do an investigation, a thorough investigation into what exactly caused that electrical fire. we don't know if it was aging equipment, but we are constantly updating our equipment. >> bart expects service to be fully restored for the monday morning commute in oakland. cornell, bernard abc seven news now the park fire burning north of chico has grown to be the biggest in the state this year. >> the bay area air quality district has issued an advisory, with air quality expected to be impacted by smoke from the fire today and tomorrow. it has now scorched more than 360,000 acres in butte, tehama, shasta and plumas counties. abc news reporter jacqueline lee has the latest. >> reporter tonight, california's largest wildfire of the year, rapidly growing the park fire, destroying dozens of homes and buildings scorching more than 350,000 acres.

firefighters continuing to hold the line. putting out these spot fires. you can see the flames burning inside that tree trunk, and it is a race against time as temperatures continue to rise later this week, the fire, now 12%, contained one of more than 100 wildfires burning in the west. we met ranger john russell near the city of chico. >> when you say, did you think it would ever happen, you better believe it. >> officials arrested 42 year old ronnie stout for suspected arson, alleging he pushed this car while it was on fire down an embankment, sparking one of the fastest moving fires in recent memory. are you angry about it? >> i'll put it tactfully. truly the real damage and sadness and anger would become from the people who have lost everything. >> russell showing us the charred trails and piles of ash, his barn still standing thanks to a quick thinking firefighter who dug out a fire line. >> that's what saved this place, because you can see it burned

right up to it. >> we finally came to a clearing, an untouched field. his beloved cattle survived. the fire was raging this this way and coming straight for them. yes, but roaring above a reminder of the ongoing battle tonight. >> every time one went by, he said, thank you guys. thank you guys. >> firefighters continuing their ground assault setting these backfires. you can see the smoke and the ash swirling and the fight is far from over. the fire expected to last at least another month in forest ranch, california. jacqueline lee abc seven news. >> take a look at this. a strike team from the sonoma county fire district rescued two dogs found inside a home in forest ranch. they transferred the pets to local law enforcement to get them to an emergency animal shelter. crews left a note at the house for the family, letting them know their dogs got to ride in a fire engine. the strike team hopes both human and fur babies, and will they hope that both sides will be reunited

in contra costa county, crews continue to mop up the fire in bay point. the point fire charred nearly 500 acres near évora road, but is now 85% contained, cal fire says favorable weather conditions have helped crews all evacuation orders and road closures have since been lifted. you can track wildfires across the state as well as air quality with our interactive wildfire tracker. we have all the information for you on our website, abc seven news.com/fire map to the peninsula. we learned today the names of the three victims who lost their lives in a crash at devil's slide. the coroner's office identified them as 28 year old angelica. angelica gaucho, 29 year old mohammad noori, both from south san francisco, and brian aroma from kansas. the car landed more than 300ft down an embankment along highway one between pacifica and montara. it's still not clear

what caused friday's crash. five years ago tonight, violence shattered the safety of a beloved bay area tradition. on this day in 2019, a shooter killed three people and injured 17 more at the gilroy garlic garlic festival. police shot and killed the 19 year old gunman. the festival never recovered. it was canceled in 2020 because of the pandemic and moved to a drive through format in 2021. the following year, new organizers took over and set up the event in stockton. it's now moving to merced county. the old organizers in gilroy told our partners that the bay area news group they hope to revive the gilroy garlic festival, though insurance will be a challenge. we're working to learn more about a deadly drive by shooting in hayward that happened today. it happened just after 11 this morning near glad tidings church on west tennyson road. one person was killed and police

think there may be a second victim. police say they don't believe there is a connection to the church, but have not released any other details. vigils are being held across the nation as well as here in the bay area. in remembrance of sonia massey. she's the mother of two of two. that is who was shot and killed in her own home by an illinois sheriff's deputy who was responding to her 911 call. activists are demanding justice as they honor her life, along with others who were killed in police custody this afternoon, activists held a vigil in downtown oakland at 15th and broadway before marching to frank ogawa plaza. a vigil is being held right now in downtown san jose at head shaved barbershop. it's part of the national day of mourning, including an event held in pittsburgh, pennsylvania. sonia massey say her name grayson, the former sangamon

county sheriff's deputy who shot massey, was fired and charged with three counts of first degree murder, aggravated battery and with a firearm, and official misconduct in massey's death. he has pleaded not guilt. as vice president kamala harris vies for the white house, her long time pastor and san francisco is launching a nationwide prayer campaign for civility in the race. reverend amos brown kicked off 100 days of prayer at this morning service at third baptist church. >> we are gathered here this day, more importantly, to pray that there will be peace, civility, love, common sense, and indeed, respect for the worth and dignity of all peoples. >> reverend brown says he decided on the campaign after a discussion with the vice president and interfaith leaders. he says the nation faces a stark choice in november, hoping prayer can help

a few sundays this summer, timed to coincide with games at oracle park. it will depart the f dock in redwood city at 1115 each day, and arrive at pier 48 in san francisco an hour later. from there, it's a ten minute walk to oracle park. you do have to reserve tickets in advance. it ran today for the game against the rockies and will run again on august 11th, september 1st and september 15th. happening tomorrow. a san francisco board of supervisors committee is scheduled to hold a hearing on a plan to designate gilbert bakers rainbow pride flag at harvey milk plaza as a landmark. if approved, the land use by the land use commission, that is, the proposed resolution will head to the full board of supervisors for a vote in september. the gilbert baker rainbow flag is named for the late artist who created the iconic community symbol in the castro. an afternoon of good

starting the 26.2 mile course in front of the ferry building at 515 this morning. 29 year old charlie lawrence of boulder, colorado, won the men's division with a time of two hours, 22 minutes. the fastest women's finisher was a 24 year old jenna wolfram of barrington, illinois, with a time of two hours 52 minutes. runners also had the option of participating in two

separate half marathons, or ten k and five k races. good times all around in the east bay, a new monthly market made its debut in hayward. attendees enjoyed food from more than 30 local vendors as well as entertainment. the new market is held at the south hayward bart station from noon to 4 p.m. it is scheduled on the last sunday of the month through october. some great pictures out there as well, as we're joined by spencer christian, you know, i like the change of pace in today's weather. >> it's a great change of pace. you know, yesterday was so much cooler than average, like 20 degrees or more in some spots. today, it warmed up a little bit. so closer to average today, but still cooler than average. here's a look at the satellite radar composite image. and this is important not just because of what you're seeing here. that the effect that it has on our weather here in the bay area, this vigorous onshore flow and the return of the marine layer with that cool air and that higher humidity is reaching its way over into northern california in the northern

sacramento valley, where the park fire continues to burn. and this cooling effect and the additional humidity in the air is helpful. now, this is a massive fire. so there's not going to be a dramatic improvement in the containment of the fire just overnight because of the weather conditions. but the weather conditions have improved. now you notice the smoke being carried generally in an easterly or northeasterly direction away from the bay area. some of that smoke did work its way back into the bay area yesterday, because some shifting of the upper upper level winds, but that smoke is not having an effect on our air quality right now. you can see all the green dots indicating good air quality, and a few yellow dots indicate indicating moderate air quality. so as long as the upper level wind flow near the park fire continues in its current direction, we will probably not have many concerns about that smoke affecting our air quality. now, what is affecting our weather quality is this vigorous onshore flow. we've got gusts up to 31mph at sfo right now, and surface wind speed, sustained winds that are pretty vigorous as well, 25 to

30mph in several locations. and despite that onshore flow, which we call a cooling onshore flow, not much cooling today compared with yesterday, we have quite an increase in temperatures in most locations 13 degrees cooler or warmer right now in novato than at this time yesterday. 4 or 5 degrees warmer here in san francisco and oakland, and 15 to 17 degrees warmer than at this time yesterday in concord and livermore. here's a live view from mount tam looking down onto the bay, and you can see not much marine layer right now, just a few little skinny fingers of fog pushing out through the golden gate. it's 61 here in the city right now, 66 in oakland. hayward 6976, in san jose, 75 redwood city and 55 at half moon bay. and we do have some lingering low clouds over the of the golden gate. and these clouds will deepen and thicken and expand as we get into the early evening hours. other temperature readings right now 74 at santa rosa, 64 at petaluma, napa, 69 low 80s at fairfield, concord, livermore at 79 degrees. these are the

forecast headlines the next two days. we'll see gradual warming midweek, wednesday, thursday warming increases and into next weekend. the heat cranks up again, especially in our inland areas. overnight. we'll not only see the marine layer deepening and expanding, but lots of patches of drizzle and mist offshore and some of it moving onshore as well. so early morning commuters may encounter a damp spot or two in the roadways. overnight lows, mainly in the mid to upper 50s. highs tomorrow. low 60s, coast low 70s. bay. low to mid 80s inland. here's the accuweather seven day forecast. notice the gradual warm up going into the middle of the week. and then thursday friday mid 90s inland mid 70s around the bay. and by next weekend it will be heating up to upper 90s inland. >> today marked the giants final game before the trade deadline on tuesday afternoon. san francisco they've underperformed this season, but things starting to gel this week and this afternoon a chance for a four game sweep of the colorado rockies. catch of the day comes from a fan backhanded barehanded grab and key here. don't spill the expensive drink. that's a
