rise above it? >> how do we continue to push forward and do more things like this to ensure that, like our community, we're all together as one calls for justice growing louder after police kill an illinois woman inside her home. >> the rallies happening over the weekend here in the bay area and in cities across the nation. >> then a somber reminder in the south bay, five years after a horrific shooting. what are the chances of the gilroy garlic festival returning? >> good morning everyone. it's monday, july 29th. >> i'm going to start the check of our forecast with drew. >> yeah, we enjoyed a cooler than average weekend. we'll keep that trend going for another day. the marine layer very expansive this morning with a live look from our exploratorium camera. clearly you see the fog overhead. a lot of areas reporting overcast skies. that's the cloud cover you see on your screen are far inland areas like concord are mainly clear right now, but that strong push of our onshore flow today will keep temperatures cooler than average, and it will help to keep smoke from nearby fires around the state out of our

atmosphere. so we should have good air quality throughout the entire day. 50s and low 60s. right now. good morning, redwood city. just updated to 56. we're at 61 in hayward. pretty much. we're all starting out in the mid 50s to the low 60s. as we get going on this monday. look at temperatures inland today, very similar to yesterday on the comfortable side. a lot of sunshine out there. low to mid 80s for daytime highs. so certainly a little bit below average for this time of the year around the bay shoreline. you'll keep that jacket for on much of the morning. temperatures very slow to warm once we get into the afternoon. it's a partly cloudy sky and temperatures in the low 70s for daytime highs along the coast. today it's pretty foggy all day long. we'll keep it comfortably cool in the low 60s. let's check in with sue and see those drive times this morning. >> good morning drew. good morning everyone. we do have a little fog on the golden gate bridge mostly mist though, so you will need your windshield wipers as you come through the wall. the waldo tunnel or the robin williams tunnel. and you have four lanes southbound, two lanes in the northbound direction. your commute uh- lane

i guess you call it the pattern, the lane pattern. there you go through oakland, 880 north and southbound. couple of problems on the road through oakland. let's take a look. we had an earlier accident near davis northbound, and we still have an accident northbound before hegenberger. it's off on the shoulder and i am seeing some slow traffic back to 98. ladies. >> thank you. sue. breaking news this morning. president biden is calling for major supreme court reforms and a constitutional amendment to strip presidents of immunity. he will be outlining three reforms during a speech today commemorating the 60th anniversary of the civil rights act for the supreme court. the president wants term limits. he's proposing justices be limited to 18 years, rotating with one newly appointed justice every two years. he's also calling for a binding ethics code that would require justices to disclose gifts or recuse themselves if they or their spouse may have a conflict of interest. these proposals come after supreme court justices

clarence thomas and samuel alito were both accused of ethics violations and ethics violation, and political bias on presidential immunity. the president wants to reverse a july supreme court ruling that presidents cannot be prosecuted for official acts. in an op ed this morning published in the washington post, the president said, quote, no one is above the law now. it is very unlikely president biden will be able to get any of these proposals passed just because of how divided congress is right now. he would need 60 votes in the senate to block a republican filibuster. >> developing news on the biggest wildfire in the state this year, the park fire has now burned more than 360,000 acres and containment is up to 12%. even with the first signs of progress this weekend, federal fire agencies, fire agencies, i should say, say they don't expect full containment until at least august 15th. the fire started near chico last week. it's one of more than 20 active wildfires in the state and 103

across the country. 4200 homes and other buildings are threatened, 100 have been destroyed so far and nearly 5000 personnel are working to contain the flames. and you may notice hazy skies or smell smoke. this morning, the bay area air quality management district says an advisory is in effect today because of the smoke drifting into the region from the park fire. abc seven news reporter gloria rodriguez is here and gloria, fire crews are facing intense flames and the wind. >> good morning. amanda. yes. and officials say the park fire is also being fueled by an abundance of vegetation. and one of the hottest and driest summers on record in that area. the park fire has grown into the biggest fire in the state this year, burning up to 5000 acres per hour. thousands of residents have been evacuated and fire officials say they are doing the best they can to safely get people back home. susan singleton and her husband fled their home just north of chico, taking shelter in their suv with

their seven dogs. rick martinez is the executive director of the california fire foundation. the nonprofit has given out $150,000 in cash cards to people who have been displaced. >> people need food and sometimes there's food provided the shelters are very good about feeding and sleeping, but there's other things that they may need from diapers to formula to medication or in some cases, gasoline, just to get, you know, to a friend or a relative's hom. >> and more amazing stories of people helping out a helicopter pilot, saving the lives of a rottweiler and her four puppies left stranded, and the sonoma county firefighters making rescues. and the man allegedly responsible heads to court today accused of pushing a car down a hill while it was on fire, sparking what's now become the seventh biggest fire in california's history. >> kumasi thank you, gloria. take a look at this. a strike

team from the sonoma county fire district rescued two dogs, found inside a home in forest ranch. they moved the pets to a local law enforcement to get them to an emergency animal shelter. crews left the note at the house for the family, letting them know their dogs got to ride in a fire engine. a strike team is helping both human and fur families will be reunited. >> farther south, firefighters are struggling to wrangle another large fire still burning strong after more than two weeks. the burrell fire sparked in the sequoia national forest during a lightning storm earlier this month. on friday, a burned through the historic mining town of havilah. crews are still figuring out how many homes are destroyed. the fire has burned more than 49,000 acres, with no containment. dangerous fire weather continues into tomorrow, but the fire may start moving into an area that burned a few years ago. >> air quality is now always a concern this time of year, and you can get those detailed maps with our abc seven california

wildfire tracker. it will give you a full picture of the fires in the smoke across the state. it's up for you right now in the front page of abc seven news.com. >> this morning, hayward police are asking the public to come forward with information about a drive by shooting that killed a 15 year old girl. it happened yesterday morning, just after 11, near glad tidings church on west tennyson road. police say the girl was taken to the hospital where she died. a 41 year old man was treated for non-life threatening injuries. police say the victims did not know each other and there is no connection to that nearby churc. no arrests have been made. developing news in alameda county after a car smashed into an apartment building. this happened just after ten last night on dairy avenue in newark, just off newark boulevard. you can see right here a pretty big hole on the side of the buildin. firefighters say the driver was the only person in the car, and it's not clear how badly they were hurt. officers on scene tell us the driver did walk away from the crash and then was

detained. >> we are seeing an overwhelming call to action in cities across the country following the recent shooting death of sonya massey by police. more than 20 rallies were held this weekend in different u.s. cities, from chicago to brooklyn to sacramento, hartford, connecticut and appleton, wisconsin. video from july 6th shows a sheriff's deputy shooting and killing massey inside her home in illinois. the deputy responded there after the 36 year old mother called 911 to report a possible intruder. >> sonya massey called the police to deal with the potential intruder and the irony she was safer with the potential intruder than the police. she was murdered in her home by those she called for protection. >> the deputy who shot and killed massey, shaun grayson, has been fired and recently pleaded not guilty to three counts of first degree murder, among other charges. this

morning, abc seven news reporter suzanne vaughn has more on the rallies here in the bay area calling for justice. >> there really is no justice in it, regardless of what happens. >> dozens of people gathered outside headspace barber shop on fourth street in san jose sunday night, trying to make sense of how and why sonya massey died. >> she was a mother of two teenagers that we have a space that's available to grieve, to mourn, to, to, to educate, to talk about everything that's going on. >> it just almost doesn't seem real. >> you know what? what we saw, she did everything that she was asked to do. >> lou dimes is with black outreach san jose, a nonprofit formed after george floyd and breonna taylor were killed by police. >> we need an opportunity to commune with each other and talk about next steps. you know, obviously this happened outside of our state, but this same issue happens here locally quite frequently. >> sid owens is an educator. >> i work with students of color, and it's for me, it's

going to work every morning and having to have this conversations with my students and my family. the bigger question is how do we rise above it? how do we continue to push forward and do more things like this to ensure that, like our community, we're all together as one? >> earlier in the day, miles away, dozens of community members also gathered in oakland. >> what we know that this means is more violence in our communities. >> people say they're concerned that fatal shootings involving police officers will not end, and that more men and women may be killed. back in san jose, vigil organizer alonzo granger says as challenging as it may seem, the community can make a difference. >> there's always ways to bring awareness. there's always ways to help the situation and to hopefully slow it down. but i don't think it'll ever stop in san jose. >> suzanne vaughn, abc seven news and staying in the south bay, the community there is remembering the victims of the deadly shooting at the gilroy garlic festival. >> yesterday marked five years since the tragic incident that left three people dead and 17

others hurt. police shot and killed the 19 year old gunman. the festival never recovered. it was canceled in 2020 with the pandemic, then moved to a drive thru format in 2021 before going to stockton this year. it's moving to the merced county fairgrounds in los banos. banos. excuse me, the organizers, the original organizers, told our partners at the bay area news group. they hoped to revive the gilroy garlic festival, though insurance will be a challenge next month, the city council will revise the permit process for special events like the garlic festival and to help take on these issues of gun violence, we have a list of vetted resources, both here locally and nationwide. just visit abc7 news.com/take action in san jose. >> sacred heart community service is asking for your help to support local youth in need. volunteers filled bags of school supplies for the annual pack, a bag program over the weekend, but sacred heart still needs a thousand backpacks and $30,000

in donations to reach their goa. >> our learning center will turn into a backpack store wonderland with school backpacks that are appropriate for kids, kindergarten all the way up to 12th grade, and they get to come in and select the backpack that fits their unique personality and gets them excited for the school year. >> backpacks can be dropped off today until thursday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at sacred heart's donation station, which is on south first street. pre-registered families will pick their free backpacks up tomorrow and on thursday, 512 this morning, we're taking a look at our air quality because we'll be monitoring this throughout the week as nearby fires continue to burn. >> positive news this morning. we do have green sensors across the board. we have good air quality and will likely stay that way through the next 24 hours. here's the park fire nearby. we do have moderate to unhealthy air quality close to the fire. we have hazardous air quality, but you look at the air quality forecast and that dense

smoke really remains near. the fire will have a strong onshore wind, and that's going to keep smoke from these fires away from us, at least for the next 2 to 3 days. we may get a little smoke in our atmosphere by the end of the week, as high pressure returns to warm us up, but at least through the next couple of days, we'll breathe easy. that does come with a pretty deep marine layer. this morning. across the city will be mostly cloudy today. temperatures right around 67 degrees close to 1:02 p.m. we'll have a little bit of sunshine, but that fog really rules the sky. across san francisco in oakland. morning clouds, the sun. it's a similar story in san jose and walnut creek, and temperatures very pleasant. we'll stay in the 70s and low 80s for daytime highs away from the coast. so here's future weather. clearly you can see by 930 we still have a lot of fog overhead as we head close to lunchtime, we will still see that cloud cover over the city. some of that fog is still patchy around oakland and san leandro, but sunshine is present away from the coast and we'll keep those clouds all day along the ocean. so highs today we are cooler than average. certainly is cool for july we'll keep it

trump. both bystanders who were shot and injured at the rally in pennsylvania have now been released from the hospital. the 74 year old shooting victim was able to go home on friday. the

other man was discharged on wednesday. a 50 year old father and former firefighter was killed in the shooting. we are also learning new details on the assassination attempt from the local swat team, assigned to protect former president donald trump. abc news reporter aaron katersky has the details in today's gma first look. >> in this morning's gma first look, the local swat team assigned to help protect former president trump during his pennsylvania rally, speaking out for the first time since the assassination attempt. >> we were supposed to get a face to face briefing with the secret service snipers whenever they arrived, and that never happened. so i think that that was probably a pivotal point where i started thinking things were wrong, because that never happened. and we had no communication with the secret service. >> text messages between local snipers show they noticed thomas matthew crooks at 4:26 p.m, nearly two hours before the attempted assassination that would injure trump, kill a man, and severely hurt two others. you had no communication with the secret service at all on

that saturday? >> no, not until after the shooting, i believe. >> yeah. and by then it was too late. and coming up at 7 a.m. more on the signs the swat team says were missed. that day with the gma first look. i'm aaron katersky, abc news, new york. >> us senate candidate adam schiff tried to shore up support in the aapi community around the bay area over the weekend. the congressman visited oakland's chinatown for a meet and greet, telling the crowd he plans to support new grants for aapi community organizations. the democrat schiff is polling well ahead of republican steve garvey in the race for late senator dianne feinstein's seat as vice president kamala harris vies for the white house. >> her long time pastor in san francisco is launching a nationwide prayer campaign for civility in the race. reverend amos brown kicked off 100 days of prayer mat yesterday. service at third baptist church. >> we are gathered here this day, more importantly, to pray that there will be peace,

civility, love, common sense, and indeed respect for the worth and dignity of all peoples. >> reverend brown says he decided on the campaign after a discussion with the vice president and interfaith leaders. he says the nation faces a stark choice in november, hoping prayer can help avoid what he called the worst mistakes of the past. >> if your commute involves bart, service is fully back up and running this morning. officials say systemwide delays this weekend caused by an electrical fire near the 12th street oakland city center station on saturday night, and that station, as well as the 19th street, fruitvale and lake merritt stations, lost power and had to close about 300 passengers were stuck inside two different train cars for about 30 minutes, and they had to be evacuated through a smoky tunnel between the 12th and 19th street stations. >> thankfully, our ventilation

system worked as it was supposed to and got the smoke out of the area. we were able to evacuate all of those riders safely and there were no injuries. >> bart says it still doesn't know what caused the electrical fire. >> dancers of all ages showed their moves this weekend, hoping for a chance to represent the warriors. the final round of auditions were on sunday for the warriors dance team. 137 dancers made the finals. the top 90 will land spots on one of the warriors four dance teams. there are opportunities for kids as young as eight on the junior jam squad, along with the gold squad, blue crew and the hardwood classics, which are dancers 55 and older. the final rosters will be announced on wednesday. come on jammers love it. >> love. >> they were getting it okay for squads. impressive. impressive. >> i can make none of them. i can do like a little. >> no part of me. >> that's all you need. >> one. two step. >> there's the space for you. >> thank you. give me the back.

i can be cheering them on like you got this. you got this. guys, this morning we're talking about a cooler afternoon. a lot of fog out there this morning. here's a live look at sfo right now. we do have overcast skies. it's one of those days we kind of forgot what july should be like. july should be chilly. it should be foggy. but for much of the month it's been quite warm and sunny. so the last couple of days it will feel more like july. we have those overcast skies this morning, increasing sunshine as we head towards lunchtime, but in the afternoon these numbers will be cool for july sunrise here at 611, your sunset at 821. so morning clouds cool for july. very comfortable in the south bay. today. will hit 74 in santa clara and sunnyvale. up to 77 in san jose. hit about 84. in gilroy along the peninsula. it's cooler than average, but quite nice. 72 in san mateo, with increasing sunshine today. 77 redwood city. but it will stay cloudy along the coast all day. it's pretty cloudy across san francisco all day. we'll see just a little bit of sunshine around 1:02 p.m. uh- in the downtown financial district for the coast. it is

pretty cloudy all day with some drizzle this morning. temperatures mainly in the 60s. in the north bay. we have some morning clouds giving way to sunshine. 87 in cloverdale, but only 79 in san rafael, 77 in napa in the east bay today will stay in the 70s in the inland east bay, we'll find temperatures very nice in the low to mid 80s with lots of sunshine out there. so looking at overnight lows will be in the 50s and 60s, but again, the bigger story is how deep our marine layer is. once again. so tonight expect those overcast skies to be with us as we head into tuesday. now tuesday pretty similar to today. we'll keep those temperatures on the comfortable side as we head towards wednesday and thursday. we'll start to warm up a little bit. nowhere near heat advisory criteria, but as we head towards thursday afternoon, you can see it's still feeling warm to hot inland with temperatures in the low and mid 90s. and then over the weekend, we'll find even warmer weather moving in. so here's the accuweather seven day forecast morning fog today below average. just some slight warming over the next couple of days. we'll keep that morning

famous crops in the spotlight. this was the first year the state fair allowed marijuana to be brought in and consumed on to be bought, i should say, and consumed on site. the fair also expanded its cannabis awards to more categories. this weekend. they rolled out a green carpet and handed out medals for what some growers call the oscars of cannabis. >> for these folks, this means the world to them to grow their craft products and to be able to celebrate them alongside of traditional agriculture. >> organizers say the cannabis consumption part of the fair went well, with a surprising number of seniors stopping through questions regarding the power of artificial intelligence coming up in our next half hour on abc seven mornings, new reaction on x to a recently released deepfake video of what looks and sounds like vice president kamala harris. >> and we are taking a live look

out there, high humidity and very light winds. right around five miles per hour. current temperatures underneath all this cloud cover pretty uniform. as we get you going on this monday, mid 50s to the low 60s. 60 in oakland right now this morning, 55 that current temperature in saint helena. so temperatures just like this past weekend we'll keep it cooler than average for late july. look at our inland numbers. and we're pretty comfortable all day long. we have a lot of sunshine temperatures in the low and mid 80s for daytime highs around the bay shoreline. it's one of those days you'll keep that extra layer for on much of the morning as we're slow to warm, and that cloud cover lingers for much of the morning. the afternoon we'll see brighter conditions and highs in the upper 60s to the lower 70s. cloudier and cooler along the coast. we'll keep it with some coastal drizzle this morning. pretty foggy all day long. a little breezy to in those highs in the low 60s. let's check in with sue. see those drive times this morning. >> good morning drew. good morning everyone. it's monday traffic filling in on the east shore freeway. emeryville camera showing you those headlights

headed in the westbound direction towards the macarthur maze. a couple of gaps there, but everybody's moving at the limit. and once you get to the bay bridge, if that is your destination, no metering lights yet. we'll check on that in just a few minutes. this is about the time every morning, so traffic is flowing nicely all the way into the city. a couple of brake lights as you head through the tunnel, and we do have this overturned accident. this is north 17 through los gatos. as you make your way into san jose highway nine, just before highway nine, it's an overturned. and for a time it was blocking all lanes. it looks like they picked that up now. and traffic is flowing nicely through the area. one other quick note we did have an earlier fatality this happened at late last night. the hesperian off-ramp does remain closed from westbound 92. all right. >> thank you so much sue. >> happening today republican vice presidential candidate d jd vance. excuse me. is turning to his silicon valley connections for campaign cash. he's scheduled to headline a

entering the race likely democratic presidential nominee vice president kamala harris considers herself an underdog. we're the underdogs in this race, but this is a people powered campaign, and we have momentum. the vp rallied support from donors in massachusetts over the weekend. in minnesota, former president donald trump continued his attacks on president biden before turning to his new opponent. >> they took him out of the fight and they put a new fighter. we have a new victim now, kamala, but these remarks from trump got the most attention. you got to get out and vote in four years. you don't have to vote again. we'll have it fixed. so good. you're not going to have to vote. >> democrats claim that comment was a threat to democracy. congressional republicans also sharpening their attacks on harris. >> there is no liberal horse that she has chosen not to ride. she sponsored the green new deal and medicare for all while claiming harris is soft on crime policies. >> but the biden administration, now touting its record on crime, claiming record declines over the first half of this year,

were certainly cooler than average for july. we were headlining that both saturday and sunday, and we'll continue that trend today. for the most part, you could see many of us will be below average. it's very comfortable out there. this afternoon. we'll have highs mainly in the 70s and 80 away from the coast. so for most of us that is a few degrees below average for this time of the year. here's live doppler seven along with satellite. the story we're tracking. you can see this dip right here in the jet stream. this trough is giving us the cooler than average temperatures. the deep marine layer this morning. this trough is going to stay along the west coast over the next couple of days. keep those temperatures in check. but by the end of the week, we'll start to find warmer weather moving in. and for the upcoming weekend, we'll find brighter skies and warmer temperatures. but today, inland, we do have a lot of sunshine. very pleasant. when we talk about afternoon highs, we'll stay in the low and mid 80s throughout the afternoon. now around the bay shoreline. it is very cloudy this morning, closer to about 10:11 a.m. that's when we expect the sunshine to really break out. so do expect that fog

who lost their lives in a crash at devil's slide. the coroner's office identified them as 28 year old angelica gaucho, 29 year old mohammad noori. both from south city, and brian aroma, a resident of kansas. on friday, the car landed more than 300ft down an embankment along highway one between pacifica and montara. it's still not clear what led to the crash in the north bay, farmworkers are calling out the consequences of climate change and demanding better pay. >> hundreds of farmworkers marched through healdsburg yesterday calling for higher wages and disaster pay. they say they've lost too much work this summer because of brutal heat waves, along with last month's point fire. they want better wages for work done in dangerous
