blaze is more than 12 times the size of san francisco. incredible new video gives you a firsthand look at the perspective from a north bay cal fire crew currently assisting in the firefight. more than 5300 personnel are coordinating in the response now. >> the fire has burned roughly 375,000 acres. containment is up to 14% tonight, but sadly, the number of homes lost is growing. cal fire now says the fire destroyed 165 buildings so far. the community of cohasset is the hardest hit, but ron ward's home survived as the flames moved in, he and his son stayed and managed to save their house. you've got a one of the largest fires now in in our history coming our way. >> so. and we knew it was going to be bad. we just didn't know how bad it was going to be. >> ron says his family just got

dropped by their insurance a month ago, so losing their home would have wiped out their life savings. but he says it's devastating to talk. so to see so many friends have faced such a loss. >> we're very blessed and we're glad that we were able to save our property. it just it's tough. there's a lot of those phone calls, a lot of people who have lost their homes, they haven't even been been able to get back to look at their homes. >> just so tough for so many. the man accused of starting the fire appeared in court for the first time today, ronnie dean stout. the second is facing a felony arson charge. the butte county district attorney says witnesses saw stout's car get stuck at the top of a hill and heard him revving the engine. prosecutors believe that's what sparked the fire when stout saw the flames, they say he pushed the car down a hill instead of calling for help. the d.a. says stout claims it was an accident. he is being held without bail and is due back in court on thursday. remember you can keep track of the fires burning across the state with our abc seven california wildfire

on x by tech billionaire elon musk. >> the clip, to which we added this disclaimer, used a cloning tool to copy the voice of vice president harris and pretend she's saying things she's actually never said. the video has renewed concerns over the use of ai in politics, and has gotten the attention of several bay area lawmakers. i think it was really unfortunate, uh- and i argue, irresponsible of elon musk to share the obviously deceptive deepfake of vice president harris. assembly member mark berman has been championing more regulations on ai generated material in california for years. a few months ago, he introduced a bill in the state legislature that would force social media companies to regulate this type of content. during election seasons, to be able to identify this content. >> and then when they do, either to block it entirely, if it's if it's extraordinarily nefarious and damaging, or to label it. >> berman isn't alone in his calls for more oversight, says tiffany lee. lee is an associate professor at the university of

our mission here at abc seven. so tonight we want to highlight three breakthroughs for our community. we begin in san francisco, where health care workers are calling attention to their work supporting the transgender community. the san francisco community clinic consortium is planning a news conference tomorrow to highlight their work providing health services to trans people. this summer, san francisco officially became a sanctuary city for trans people. >> you're looking at our next abc seven building a better bay area breakthrough, more new bart faregates are up and operational. the these are at the seventh street side of the civic center station in san francisco. now the hope here is this style of gate will cut down significantly on fare evasion, improve safety, and be easier to maintain. bart is planning to install them systemwide by the end of next year. all right, our final abc seven building a better bay area breakthrough is a positive sign for our craft beer industry. our beer scene is booming and bucking national trends of closing breweries.

local craft breweries will open at least nine new taprooms this year. the chronicle reports. locations are planned for all across the bay area, with expansions by almanac brewing, headlands and more. plus, san francisco based anchor brewing is working on plans to reopen under new ownership. we'll keep tabs on that for you. yeah, definitely keep tabs, i get it. >> all right, let's check on our weather. all right. >> meteorologist lisa argen is here. hi, lisa. >> hi there. ama and dan. we are certainly in the middle of a cooldown. the culprit? this area of low pressure to the north of us. it has been giving us a generous marine layer, and it's already pushed into the peninsula. parts of the east bay and the south bay. and the marine layer will continue to fill into the north bay. but i want to get you updated on our air quality. the bay area. you may have noticed a little bit of haze today, but that is all being pushed to the east and you can see the fire up to the nort, creating the poor air quality between chico and redding. and

as we get into tuesday afternoon, it continues and this will move into the sierra nevada and we will be left with the good air quality with our onshore flow each and every day this week, despite the warm up that's coming, it's a modest warm up, 62 right now in fremont and gilroy. it is 63 in hayward, with the clouds filtering in. not too cloudy yet in the north bay, the temperatures are dropping quickly with the clear sky in the upper seconds, but the clouds will fill in there. so tomorrow the last mild or cool day below average before we see a warm up. a subtle one coming into play for our inland valleys, we'll get back into the 90s, and then we'll look for that heat to remain in our inland valleys. we will flirt with some upper 90s, but we're not going to see the hot weather we saw in early july. here's a look at our winds. once that fog retreats, we'll be looking at those winds kicking up to over 20 miles an hour, maybe 27 to 30 miles an hour through the delta. and that's going to keep going

each and every day with the ebb and flow of the low clouds and the fog. overnight lows with some mist and drizzle, we'll see temperatures in the 50s to the upper 50s. and then the clouds are going to hang on till about 9:00, and then they'll begin to retreat to the east. so look at wednesday when we get into the lower 90s, you'll notice that temperatures are staying comfortable across the bay. one of the warmer days into thursday. looking at the mid and upper 90s. and then you'll notice we knock off a few temperatures by friday. so we're definitely going to warm up a little bit above average. but not tomorrow. tomorrow once again below average but pleasant mid 80s arriving maybe about three degrees warmer than today in our inland valley 74 in fremont, upper 70s, napa and san jose. looking at the low 60s in half moon bay and the accuweather seven day forecast, we've got some upper 80s inland today, warmer slightly in the next few days will be in the mid to upper 90s as we get started for the weekend. the first weekend of august. and you'll notice we're kind of level out into the mid 90s, inland, mid
