contained, and triple digit temperatures are expected in that area by tomorrow. at least 165 buildings, many of them homes, have been destroyed. the suspect accused of starting the fire is held without bail on felony arson charges and overnight, a new wildfire in riverside county, california, has quickly burned nearly six square miles. >> we turn now to the fatal police shooting of an illinois mother. we're learning more about the sheriff's deputy charged in the case. his troubled past is raising questions about why he was hired in the first place. new details emerging from allegations of aggression and integrity issues involving sean grayson. he's the former illinois sheriff's deputy charged in the murder of sonja massie. she called 911 earlier this month to report a suspected prowler at her springfield home. body camera video shows grayson responding and later shooting massie as she held a pot of boiling water. where's the gun? >> no, she had a boiling water and came at me with boiling water. you shot her? yeah >> grayson has held six

different jobs in law enforcement since 2020, and now abc news has obtained records from his 11 month tenure at the logan county sheriff's office, including recordings between grayson and his supervisors discussing inaccuracies in his police reports. >> we had this conversation i told you, and that meeting. review all your reports, make sure they're right. >> one supervisor is heard reprimanding grayson for misconduct. >> the sheriff and i will not tolerate lying and deception. and i have told you that i have zero tolerance for stretching the law. because when you have officers that stretch the law, they will get caught, they will get prosecuted, and they will handcuff the rest of law enforcement in the state and this nation behind your back. >> records also show a woman filed a complaint claiming grayson tried to watch as she was strip searched, but according to the paperwork, grayson left the logan county sheriff's office last year in good standing. he was hired days

later by the sangamon county sheriff's office, where he was working at the time of massie shooting. >> i'm going to say something right now that i've never said in my career before that we failed. we did not do our jobs. >> sheriff campbell has refused to resign for hiring grayson before his policing career. grayson was also convicted of dui twice and was kicked out of the military. he has pleaded not guilty to murder. >> authorities are trying to determine a motive for stabbing spree at a children's dance class in england. two children were killed and 11 other people wounded. police near liverpool say a 17 year old boy burst into the dance class and attacked the victims. >> protests are erupting in venezuela, where president nicolas maduro has claimed victory after another disputed election. the opposition candidate says he obtained tally sheets proving he got twice as many votes as maduro. but maduro was declared the winner by the election council. he controls now to the olympics and a triumph for team usa in

carrie underwood on good morning america. >> welcome back. the city of san diego is warning swimmers to stay clear of sea lions. some people have been spotted getting dangerously close to the animals. sea lions are protected by federal law. even touching one could lead to a year in prison as well as fines. >> we're now hearing from the family of an illinois man who died trying to save victims from a capsized yacht. lorenzo tobin's body was recovered from lake michigan. he'd been missing since friday after he and 15 other people were thrown into the water. the boat had been rented for a birthday party, his family says tobin was trying to get life jackets to the passengers. >> he's a hero, even if he had not been on that boat but had been just walking by, he would have done the same thing. >> tobin was working as a

deckhand. everyone else survived. his family hopes investigators can tell them why the boat sank. >> we turn now to a new survey of young americans showing teens under pressure in a world of social media that glamorizes perfection. this morning, the pressure for perfection appears more prevalent than ever in teens. that's according to a new study showing about 1 in 3 gen z kids feel like they have to be perfect. girls were about 14 points more likely than boys to feel the need for perfection. while social media has been linked to the ongoing youth mental health crisis, congress has not enacted meaningful legislation to protect kids online in more than a decade. but today, the senate is expected to pass two bills aimed at online safety. >> these bills will provide the appropriate guardrails necessary to protect kids against online threats. >> the legislation would require platforms give teens the option

becoming a reality. are low. >> extremism is undermining the public confidence in the court's decisions. >> in his first speech since proposing major reforms to the supreme court, president biden said public trust in the court has eroded. >> these reforms restore trust in the courts. >> biden is proposing an 18 year term limit for justices with every president appointing a new justice every two years, ensuring consistent renewal of the court. the president also saying justices should be required to disclose gifts, refrain from public political activity and recuse themselves from cases in which they or their spouses have financial or other conflicts of interest. but the proposal immediately condemned by republicans, rather than accepting that they lost the biden-harris administration, has responded with a full scale attack on the justices who ruled against them. with a divided senate and a republican controlled house, there's little chance of the plan becoming reality. speaker of the house mike johnson calling it dead on arrival in the house. president biden, with this response to
