good morning, again. >> good morning again, rachel. it's been a remarkable two weeks for vice president harris. in that short time span, she's united the entire party behind her and earned enough votes to become the democratic nominee. now, all eyes turn to who she'll pick for her running mate. her announcement could come any day. this morning, vice president kamala harris on the cusp of choosing her running mate. sources tell me she's meeting with some top contenders in d.c. this weekend. her big decision coming after she made history on friday, securing enough votes to clinch the democratic nomination for president, becoming the first black woman, the first asian american to be at the top of a major party ticket. >> i am honored to be the presumptive democratic nominee for president of the united states. >> reporter: harris calling in to the virtual roll call to celebrate the moment. >> you know it's not going to be easy, but we're going to get this done, and as your future president, i know we are up to this fight, and when we fight,

everyone will say in unison, we win. >> reporter: with just 93 days until the election our fivethirtyeight polling average shows a very tight race, and now harris expected to announce her running mate any day. those who have been thoroughly vetted for the ticket include retired astronaut mark kelly, husband of gabby giffords, minnesota governor tim walz a retired schoolteacher and former congressman and popular pennsylvania governor josh shapiro. like harris, a former prosecutor. shapiro, sources tell me, cleared his schedule this weekend and is one of the contenders meeting with harris. >> governor, do you expect kamala harris to ask you to run with her? [ laughter ] >> i think that's a question for the vice president. >> if you're not going to the hamptons this weekend, what are you doing instead? [ laughter ] >> you really think i'm going to tell you what i'm doing? >> do you plan to be in philadelphia on tuesday by chance? >> i hope to be, yeah. >> reporter: vice president harris is wasting no time. next week along with her new

running mate she's hitting seven battleground states in just five days. and former president donald trump is also hitting critical battlegrounds rallying with j.d. vance tonight in georgia, guys. >> whit: shapiro got a few questions there. gee, i wonder what it's about. plenty of speculation. thank you so much. we appreciate it. now to the fast-moving situation in the middle east. the u.s. sending more forces to the region preparing for a potential escalation. let's go back to matt rivers in tel aviv for the latest. matt, good morning. >> reporter: yeah, good morning, whit. this iranian response to israel's assassination of key hezbollah and hamas leaders earlier this week expected any time now. and to that end, the u.s. embassy here in israel putting out an alert warning of the continued need for caution and increased personal security awareness including knowing the location of the nearest shelter as security incidents often take place without any warning. now, what the iranian hezbollah responses will look like is anyone's guess, but the prevailing assumption is that it will at least include some kind

of missile barrage potentially numbering in the hundreds of projectiles like we saw a few months ago. as a result, the u.s. says it is prepping to help defend israel announcing that it is repositioning and adding military assets in this part of the world to help israel defend itself again any retaliation. despite all of this, senior israeli officials confirming to abc news that negotiations still continuing for a cease-fire deal in gaza. israeli negotiators in cairo this morning to continue talks. will? >> will: the region on a knife's edge. that's matt rivers in israel for us. matt, thank you. we turn back home to the hurricane watches and tropical storm warnings in florida as a big storm in the caribbean takes aim at the state's west coast. florida has declared a state of emergency and let's go to faith abubey. she is in st. petersburg. faith, good morning, again. >> reporter: yeah, good morning to you, will. that state of emergency coming days ahead of the storm and now covering about 54 counties across the state of florida. the concern here is that a heavy rain event with gusty winds

sierra. we're following new developments on a plane crash that happened in the hills south of livermore. the preliminary investigation by the ntsb points to a complete loss of engine power in the air. it led to a forced landing yesterday. the plane took off from concord and the faa says it went down around 915 in the morning. and as you can see, landing upside down, the pilot was the only one on board and thankfully was not hurt. to weather now let's check in with lisa on this heat returning. >> yes, our inland valleys close to 100 degrees today. but you can see the marine layer trying to reform here from our sutro tower camera. temperatures are in the upper 50s downtown, but we're in the mid and upper 60s in our inland valleys near 100. their upper 80s in san jose. >> the thank you and thank you

in a nice suit. quit outfit change there. >> will: quick pump. now i'm ready to go. >> rachel: we love it. with many in the country dealing with the record-breaking heat the last thing any of us want to do is turn on the oven. so chef ashton keefe is here with delicious recipes that require no cooking at all. this is exactly my type of segment. what are we starting with? >> we're going to do three no-cook recipes i love. we're going to start with a gazpacho. i think it gets a bad wrap. >> will: by who? >> i don't know but i feel like it's basically a salsa blended up and there's nothing wrong with that. we're going to use watermelon which is my secret ingredient. i'll put watermelon in our blender. i use tomatoes and i like to use things that are a little bruised. so you can kind of make use of vegetables that might have been, like, kind of bopped around in your shopping cart or whatnot so i blend this together. i also use mint and basil, fresh herbs, lots of good stuff and then the secret to this is vinegar. you want a little bit of acid to cut this. we have some salt.

but honestly, blend, blend, blend. the best part of this is the garnish so we're using burrata. i had this in france and it was life-changing. so you split it over your soup and then you garnish it with some more -- i use zucchini, any fresh vegetables. more watermelon but this gives you that creamy factor of a soup without having to add cream or cook it and it's perfection. serve it with bread and what could go wrong? >> rachel: best served cold. >> exactly. olive oil. perfection. you don't even need this. >> will: that is perfection. that looks delicious. so does this. a mexican corn pasta salad. what's going on here? when can i eat it? >> you can eat it now. you can dig in right now. you said no cooking. this is pasta. i like to make pasta ahead for the week and you can dress it if your kid likes tomato sauce or butter. you can do whatever you want. you can make the salad without the pasta. you could just do the corn.

i just do corn. you can dump my cilantro in here, onion. let me show you something cool, lemon juice. the cool thing about this, i'm using raw corn, so raw corn this time of year is really delicious. and on the side you guys are going to take your knife and actually scrape down the side of the corn and this is known as the milk and this is actually the most flavorful part of the corn and so many people toss these. so make sure to scrape out your corn and it makes this raw corn mexican street corn salad even more delicious. >> rachel: so much of that goes to waste typically. >> i know and it's delicious. >> will: not anymore, rachel. >> i'm using ricotta because it's a nice salty dry cheese. >> will: i'll switch spots because it's dessert time. >> whit: let's talk dessert. no bake. how do we do it? >> since you were an expert on our -- >> will: stand back. >> we'll whip up some cheese and heavy cream and i'll give you guys some tastings because i made you -- >> whit: you know what, should i actually do that?
