storm could bring catastrophic flooding with up to 30in of rain and a cloudy start to your workweek. >> it's going to lead to some warmer temperatures in the next few days, but don't count out more triple digit temperatures inland. this week. >> yeah, a lot to get to. good morning everyone. it is monday, august 5th. >> yes. we're starting with the check of our forecast. yeah, it's exactly right. >> warming trend the next couple of days. this morning we'll take you outside where it is cloudy. and the forecast today we'll call for partial sunshine across san francisco with a high of 67. a little bit warmer across the bay in oakland at 72. sunny and mild at 84. in san jose. and then we're getting warmer as you head towards walnut creek, coming in at 91 degrees right now. current temperatures, we're pretty uniform, most of us starting out our monday morning in the 50s. underneath that veil of cloud cover inland. today it does get hot once again. we'll be in the low 80s by 11 a.m. and then later on this afternoon we'll get those temperatures. well into the 90s for daytime highs around the bay shoreline,

we'll find morning cloud cover giving way to sunshine close to about 10 a.m. it's a bright afternoon and it will feel mild a little bit warmer than yesterday will max out mainly in the low and mid 70s. then along the coast today. very foggy this morning. we do have some low visibility, even some coastal drizzle out there later on this afternoon. partly sunny and highs in the low 60s. let's check in with sue. see those drive times this morning. >> good morning drew. good morning everyone. it's monday and we've got a fog advisory for the richmond san rafael bridge and the golden gate bridge. so check out this is the richmond san rafael bridge approaching the toll plaza. things to be moving pretty well this morning. no delays here. and if you're traveling from, say, novato or san rafael, this is right by the north gate mall southbound on 101. those taillights heading past the civic center. you're at a good clip, and it's about 17 minutes to get to the golden gate bridge. that is pretty socked in this morning overall. we'll take a look at some of your bridge drive times here. we go. the richmond bridge. it's about a seven minute drive across the span over to san

rafael. the san mateo bridge, less than 15 minutes westbound. and your dumbarton bridge looking great from fremont over towards menlo park. it's a just about 8 to 10 minutes. ladies >> thank you. sue. happening today san jose police are expected to talk about the tragic crash that cost them one of their own. one community service officer died, another critically hurt when they were hit by a suspected drunk driver saturday night. abc seven news reporter gloria rodriguez joining us live from the san jose police headquarters, glori. >> good morning. yesterday, the interim police chief is expected to have a news conference to give more information about the investigation and also about the cso killed. and behind me you can see there is a black band on the badge on the sign here at san jose police headquarters. the flags are also at half staff today to honor that officer. the san jose police department issued a statement. it says in part, our entire police family is heartbroken by this line of

duty death and our collective arms are around his family, friends and teammates as we cope with this painful incident. san jose police say a suspected drunk driver crashed into two community service officers on saturday night. the csos were working to control traffic at monterey highway and palm avenue because of a crash down the road, and police say one officer died from his injuries. the other officer was seriously injured, but she is expected to survive. 81 year old ken sassa picks up garbage and tries to keep monterey highway in south san jose clean. >> we saw all the all the police cars and fire trucks and so we knew it was pretty bad >> officers arrested the driver at the scene. csos helped police respond to and investigate lower priority calls, and this is the first time in san jose police

history that a cso has been killed in the line of duty, live in san jose. gloria rodriguez, abc seven news. >> all right, gloria, thank you. and breaking overnight, hurricane debby has made landfall in florida as a category one storm. >> this is a live look now at tampa, where flooding and strong storm surges are expected. the camera moving because of the wind. there hundreds of thousands of customers in the path are in the dark. the storm made landfall near steinhatchee with winds of about 80mph. it's about 20 miles from where a category three storm made landfall last year. now that it's hit land, the storm should weaken to a tropical storm as it crosses florida into georgia. vice president kamala harris starts a big week of campaigning across the country, with her running mate. she could announce who that is as soon as today. overnight, the harris campaign announced that vp harris and her running mate will hit seven battleground states in five days. here's a look at those states. and then vp harris will

be in san francisco on saturday. abc news reporter alison kosik has more on the top candidates this morning. >> new questions as vice president kamala harris moves closer to announcing her running mate, one of the men on her shortlist, arizona senator mark kelly, posted and then deleted this cryptic tweet sunday, saying my background is a bit different than most politicians. i spent my life serving in the navy and at nasa, where the mission always comes first. now my mission is serving arizonans. the message leaving many wondering if kelly is still a contender. harris also met over the weekend with pennsylvania governor josh shapiro and minnesota governor tim walz. her decision is expected before she launches a multi-day swing through battleground states. >> if harris wins this election, you will quickly have a kamala economic crash. >> trump this weekend in georgia criticizing harris's policies

president of a youth swim team accused of embezzlement is expected back in an alameda county courtroom. 45 year old sarah new is charged with three felony counts for stealing more than $50,000. prosecutors say the theft happened over several months while new worked for the alameda gators swim club. the money was discovered missing after new was fired. she surrendered to alameda police last month but was released on bail. if convicted, she could face nine years in prison. >> flames moved fast in the east bay, threatening a contra costa county office building. a fire burned five acres near highway four and pacheco boulevard in martinez yesterday afternoon. time lapse drone video shows the flames burning right up to the county assessor's building. firefighters got a handle on the fire before it could damage the structure. there were no evacuations or injuries. >> developing news on the park fire in butte county. containment of this massive wildfire is now at 31%. but that triple digit heat has returned.

the area burned has grown to more than 400,000 acres, making this the fourth largest wildfire in state history. flames have destroyed 640 structures, evacuated residents are slowly being allowed to come back. like rick pah'-ha-roe, who found the remains of his beloved family cat in the ruins of his home in forest ranch in butte county. >> out there was a chair that he loved to hide under because he was a little shy, so he sure enough found that he was curled, probably curled up there and we get to uh- to let him go >> pierro lost his former home in the deadly camp fire six years ago. >> heads up if you have tickets to the west coast taco and beer festival in san jose later this month. organizers tell abc seven they've made changes after their event in san francisco this past weekend left a lot of people disappointed. attendees we spoke with, say, the $50 ticket was

supposed to include beer, cider and seltzer tasting with a custom cup you could keep along with access to 30 plus food and drink vendors. after waiting in line for more than an hour to get in, they say the festival failed to deliver on many of its promises after the first 20 minutes. >> like all of the free options that already run out. but it's like no one even was able to get in by the time like that was offered. if that was the thing at all. >> the organizers, blue stream entertainment, said in a statement. we are as transparent as we possibly can be, and we understand the community's frustration with the long lines and the limited tastings. we are currently working with our vendors to improve future events to make sure that we hold our mission statement true and improve the guest experience. that's the end of the quote there. organizers tell abc seven they've changed the format of their san jose event later this month. it will include bottomless drink samples, but the food will cost extra money. they will also have a kiosk at the box office where people can

ask questions. >> 610 this morning get you the latest look at hurricane debby. it made landfall at 4 a.m. just to the southeast of tallahassee, and as it moves onshore, it will slow down a bit. winds right now 75mph, moving off to the north northeast at ten miles per hour, is expected to slow down. you look at the map of the track over the next couple of days. between tomorrow morning and wednesday night. it pretty much slowly treks over charleston, where we will have some flooding issues because we're talking a foot, a foot and a half of rain in some parts of south carolina, and that's going to create some flooding concerns. then it races off to the north and east, as it's picked up by a cold front late in the week. back here at home, a live look outside from our east bay hills. camera. lots of fog out there this morning. giving way to afternoon sunshine. today's a warmer afternoon compared to the weekend. 90 inland, 70 around the bay shoreline along the coast will stay in the 60s, so temperatures a few degrees above average but not intensely hot.

the incident happened saturday evening, according to local media reports. a woman was treated for minor injuries. a man was uninjured. new orleans police say a breathalyzer test returned a result of zero. the investigation is now being turned over to state police for review. kirkpatrick was oakland's police chief from 2017 to 2020. she now serves as new orleans police superintendent, which is their equivalent of police chief. the council on american-islamic relations has a new home in the bay area. they held a ribbon cutting ceremony

yesterday morning in santa clara. the organization's leadership, along with members of the bay area muslim communit, toured the new facility. the group says having a new permanent office will help the organization better serve and empower american muslims. and if you live in east palo alto, you're going to have to go a lot farther to find a target store. target says it is closing its east palo alto location off highway 101 on east bayshore road next month. residents say the store was an important place for the community. east palo alto mayor antonio lopez says the situation is unfortunate. the absence of the store will leave just one pharmacy and fewer grocery options in the city. >> losing a name like target with its reputation with its visibility for a city like ours, it's unfortunate. you know, that's that's the reality. >> target says the reason for this closure is underperformance. the closest target stores to east palo alto will now be redwood city or mountain view. >> happening today, the newest

getting hot inland where temperatures are maxing out in the low and mid 90s for daytime highs, widespread 70s and 80s around the bay shoreline. we'll go to 84 in napa, but a warm 90 in santa rosa overnight tonight. it's a mix of stars and clouds and overnight lows, very similar to where we are this morning. we'll keep it in the 50s heading into tuesday. now tuesday is going to be the hottest day of the week. heat advisory will be in effect for the south bay, includes san jose and gilroy. it's just for one day. we're not tracking a heat wave by any means, but it is noticeably warmer tomorrow afternoon. in fact, future tracker temperatures showing you tomorrow we'll hit about 100 and conquered antioch, livermore 101, in fairfield, getting hot in the north bay, 90 in napa, 98 in cloverdale. even around the bay shoreline. we're warming up those temperatures. upper 70s for oakland, mid and upper 80s for mountain view and fremont. here's the accuweather seven day forecast the next seven days for you. morning clouds to a mild afternoon turning hot inland tomorrow. tomorrow is the hottest day of the week, and then we quickly cool down. by

the end of the week. those temperatures are close to average with a bright start to the upcoming weekend. guys. >> all right drew thank you. now let's turn to ginger zee. she's live in the other bay area. florida's of course with the latest on hurricane debbie. >> yes. and we see you in that wind ginger good morning. how's it going? yes >> samantha kumasi great to be with you. yes, we're here and we're still getting whipped with kind of the tail end bands. the storm made landfall more than 150 miles to our northwest earlier this morning. but debbie is in its slow progression now through north florida. eventually southeast georgia, and then into south carolina. so i think by tomorrow we'll be up following it into the southeast, where this storm could end up making its calling card, its history making flooding through thursday, because we're going to be talking about debbie. and it's really slow movement, and it'll kind of plug up those coastal cities like savannah or charleston, hilton head, because it will be pushing water up against the coast. and then 10 to 20 and 30in locally. on top of all of that, we are, of

60s. let's check in with sue and see those drive times this morning. >> good morning drew. good morning everyone. well we'll take a look at the bay bridge. yes. about an hour ago metering lights were turned on and it's about it's stacked up their usual to at least the first overcrossing for about an eight minute delay behind the metering lights, and then once you're on the span, you'll be on the brakes towards the tunnel and on the western portion of the span it starts to pick up by the coliseum. 8-80 is moving nicely. no issues here north or southbound. we did have an accident that's now since been cleared out of lanes, but you can see the damage is done. if you're expecting someone from fairfield or sacramento. westbound 80 near cordelia. accident now cleared to the shoulder. but you can see it's about a 70 minute delay getting through that. hopefully that will be diminishing shortly. ladies. sue thank you. >> happening today. we should learn more information about the death of a san jose community service officer and the condition of a second one. also hurt a suspected drunk driver, hit both of them on saturday

and just for a portion of the bay area, we're not talking about a heat wave this week because by the end of the week and into the upcoming weekend, those temperatures are back to average. today's forecast. we're into the mid 90s inland today with a lot of sunshine around the bay shoreline, morning clouds to sunshine, mid 70s for our afternoon and then along the coast it's pretty cloudy. a little bit of sunshine as we head deeper into the afternoon. we'll keep it on the comfortable side in the low 60s with a bit of a breeze this afternoon, so 72 in oakland, but 90 in santa rosa will hit 94 in antioch, 84 in san jose, mild in san mateo and palo alto at 76 across the city, morning clouds, afternoon sunshine. we'll hit about 67 later on today, which is pretty close to where we should be for this time of the year. overnight tonight, a mix of stars and clouds and numbers generally falling into the 50s as we head into tuesday. now tomorrow we have one day of a heat advisory and it's just for a small portion of the region. the south bay, including san jose and gilroy for the increased risk of

bounce house. organizers have inflated seven different inflatable attractions, including one that's 24,000ft■!. this year's tour is bigger than last year's, when it paid a visit to the golden gate fields parking lot. the attraction is open through this sunday, august 11th. the tickets are $22 for toddlers adults you're going to have to pay 45 bucks. several groups gathered in the florida keys to send off rosie, the green sea turtle, as she finally returns to the ocean. the sea turtle is outfitted with a satellite tracking device as a part of the tour de turtles initiative, which tracks long distance migration of the turtles. >> okay, that's very sweet. >> rosalie was found in march of this year. she had a really severe case of, i don't know why that word is in this script. i don't know what to tell you, but she had deadly tumor causing disease. a deadly tumor causing
