down homes not far from downtown san bernardino. 13 mile an hour winds are pushing the flames onto rooftops and the ridgeline neighborhood. that's a hilly area with large homes and narrow roads, which can make it very difficult, of course, for fire

engines to move around and get to the flames now. so your live picture. more than 200 firefighters are on the scene trying to protect homes while putting out the fire. an evacuation order has been ordered for residents in that area and you can see several what used to be homes that have been reduced to nothing more than cinders and ash. just a terrible tragedy going on in southern california. good evening to you. i'm dan ashley and i'm ama daetz. >> the other big story we're following closer to home is the death of a san jose police community service officer. >> today, our police family is heartbroken. >> we were and are shocked and devastated and angry at the first line of duty death of a community service officer in our department's history today. >> he was identified as 34 year old long pham. abc seven news reporter lauren martinez spoke with those who knew him. lauren well, dan and ama. >> i spoke with one woman who described pham as the definition of a friend, another who worked

with him said he cared about his job. he was very dependable. mayor matt mehan described pham and the other community service officer who was impacted by this crash, as heroes. >> i mean, we're here to serve the community. we love san jose, but when things something like this tragic happens, it it really hits home. >> christina garcia is remembering her former partner, community service officer long pham. >> it's so, so real. like we it's hard to face this right now because it feels like it's a nightmare. >> on saturday evening, police said 34 year old cso long pham was killed while on duty by a suspected drunk driver on monday afternoon. city leaders held a press conference, many showing their condolences to community service officers in the room who knew pham. >> we were and are shocked and devastated and angry, police said. >> famine fellow cso veronica bear were standing outside their car saturday evening conducting traffic control from an unrelated accident off monterey road and palm avenue, standing

behind flares and cones. a driver behind the wheel of a dodge charger came crashing through, hitting the cso vehicle that then hit the two cso's. pham succumbed to his injuries at a hospital. veronica bear is in serious but stable condition. >> veronica suffered a dislocated shoulder, broken jaw, fractured ribs and a brain bleed. the suspect has had prior arrests for dui in california, and he was apprehended at the scene of the crash. >> the 44 year old suspect of morgan hill was arrested for felony vehicular manslaughter and two counts of felony dui. >> in our country, someone is killed by a drunk driver every 45 minutes. this time, that person happened to be someone protecting our city. a public servant, pham became a community service officer in october of 2022. >> we're very involved. >> we're very involved. we're like one step below patrol officer christina garcia said. >> pham was her partner for two years. he never complained.

>> he never he was always dependable, hard worker. he always showed up to work and did his job. >> a friend of pham shared these photos and described him as thoughtful, kind and loving. >> he'll be forever missed and we will never forget him. >> police said plans for a memorial is still being worked out with pham's family at this time. live in san jose, lauren martinez, abc seven news. >> it's just such a shame all right, lauren, thank you very much. >> a san mateo man has been arrested in southern california on suspicion of killing his pregnant girlfriend at their home in san mateo. the 37 year old woman was found last night inside the home on b street. she was nine months pregnant. her unborn child also died. police determined her live in boyfriend fled by car to the los angeles area. west covina police found him there. >> we don't have any idea how long the victim and suspect were in a relationship, for. he did live at the residence with her

and was the father of the unborn child. >> san mateo police investigators flew down to los angeles today to interview the 33 year old boyfriend, who is now facing murder charges. now, if you or someone you know needs help to take action against violence at home, the national domestic violence hotline is one 800 799 safe. that's 1-800-799-7233. we also have a long list of resources in the bay area on our website. just go to abc seven news.com/take action in the east bay. >> we are learning more about a shooting at a city owned apartment complex. oakland housing authority police say a man was hit by a bullet fired from outside his apartment. the shooting happened on thursday afternoon at the complex on east 19th street near 22nd avenue in east oakland. investigators confirm this afternoon. the man was in his apartment when he was hit by a bullet fired outside. the man is in the hospital. police have not made any arrests or shared any details about a suspect. >> three people, including two juveniles, are in the hospital

after a shooting in west oakland earlier today. it happened around 11:00 this morning near eighth and center streets. that's about a block from the west oakland bart station. police say the victims got themselves to the hospital. there are no details about their conditions at this moment. police are not sure what led up to the shooting or whether it was targeted. >> that will hopefully reveal itself in the preliminary investigation. this area is known to us as a gang or group area, where we had incidents in the past. however, it's unknown if this particular shooting is related to that. >> police have not shared any details on a suspect. >> in san francisco, a group of dirt bike riders and motorcyclists has been taking over the streets doing donuts and wheelies on main thoroughfares and at tourist attractions. just last night, the riders were spotted by lombard street. so what's being done to stop them? abc seven news reporter suzanne phan tried to find out she is live from the newsroom. suzanne. i've seen them on the embarcadero. it's dangerous. so many of us have seen them. yes perhaps you've seen them. perhaps you've heard

them here in san francisco, circling around people we talked to say it is, of course, dangerous. but riders, they keep getting away with it. >> it's just a block up there. up lombard street at the bottom of the curvy street. >> sonny iqbal couldn't believe what he saw sunday night at lombard and leavenworth streets in san francisco. >> it was probably 15 plus of actual, bikers. >> iqbal captured video of the bikers coming down lombard street just before 6 p.m. >> the bikers are coming down the hill and they're just honking. and then this happened. that's when i seen the one, two, three bikers starting to circle, and doing wheelies and kind of just burning rubber around the officer there, a handful of bikers circles, an officer who's there to help direct traffic. i just found it interesting that it would happen with a officer. there are definitely antagonizing. >> iqbal said no police ever showed up. no one was arrested.

tourists who saw the video of the bikers find it hard to believe they're a little crazy. >> i don't know what to say, but they were doing it just up there. >> it was the same guys i saw yesterday on fisherman's wharf. >> we showed bernard guettel's the video of the bikers at lombard street. he and his family are visiting from belgium and were shocked by what they saw at fisherman's wharf. he even got pictures of it. >> motocross cycles, who were masked, didn't wear helmets, but you couldn't recognize their faces and they were doing all wheelies, on the footpath and bringing the tourists and danger. >> iqbal and other san francisco residents say they've seen and heard the rowdy bikers before along the embarcadero, on the bay bridge and by the palace of fine arts. >> people can just kind of get away with stuff. >> all the activity raises questions and concerns. >> i was actually thinking, why on earth are they not being stopped by the police? >> this afternoon, the san francisco police officers association released this statement saying, quote, san francisco police officers would like nothing more than to arrest

each and every individual shown wreaking havoc on our streets in those videos. if we had the number of officers we should have, you would have seen a lot more of those bullies in cuffs. and a chp spokesperson told me they have seen motorcyclists doing wheelies and doing donuts on the golden gate bridge, and they have arrested some of those riders for reckless driving and pending traffic, unlawful assembly and exhibition of speed. live in the newsroom suzanne phan abc seven news. >> it is infuriating and dangerous. thanks very much, suzanne. san francisco no longer marks the spot for x. the new york times is reporting that elon musk plans to shut the company's san francisco office in the coming weeks, with workers moving to existing offices in san jose. the times is basing its reporting on an internal email that chief executive officer linda yaccarino sent employees today. last month, musk announced that he planned to move the company formerly known as twitter, to austin, texas. we reached out to

x for comment today, but we have not heard back. a big ruling that could change google's core business. a federal court found that google holds an illegal monopoly in internet search. the judge ruled that google is in violation of antitrust laws by requiring its search engine to be the default on android smartphones. a separate proceeding will determine what remedies should be applied to increase the competition. the justice department also has antitrust lawsuits against apple, amazon, and meta. >> markets plunged around the world today because of concerns about the u.s. economy. japan's stock market had its worst crash since 1987, and wall street saw steep losses. it's in response to a disappointing u.s. jobs report friday, driving fears of a recession. the dow and s&p both saw their worst percentage drops in nearly two years. tech stocks drove the downturn today with drops for companies including bay area based nvidia, apple, meta and alphabet. >> they're spending a lot of money on artificial intelligence, but the payoff is a little bit further down the

road. so i think, there's a broad array of companies that are eventually going to make money in artificial intelligence, but for right now, it's very narrow. >> the question now, will the fed cut interest rates next month after leaving them at a two decade high last week? a cut would be good news for people with credit card debt, or anyone trying to buy a house or car. >> vice president kamala harris is ever closer to deciding on a running mate, as she prepares for the democratic national convention. reuters is reporting that she's narrowed her choices down now to pennsylvania governor josh shapiro and minnesota governor tim walz, but none of the finalists can be ruled out until a decision is made. of course, the harris campaign is set to announce her pick ahead of a rally in philadelphia tomorrow. coming up, taco bout disappointment. >> that's what attendees are saying about this weekend's west coast taco and beer festival, the complaints pouring in and what seven on your

taco and beer festival, an event promising unlimited tacos and bottomless beer samples. that's not what attendees tell seven on your side they got. and now event organizers say they're taking refund requests. >> abc seven news reporter lena howland tells us this isn't the first time the event promoter has had issues. >> people across the bay area had high hopes for the west coast taco and beer festival. the event's instagram page shows enticing photos of previous events, and they definitely over promised and did not deliver. matt jenkins and his fiance left the san francisco event disappointed. each ticket was 50 bucks, with the promise of taco and beer tastings. >> after the first 20 minutes, like all of the free options,

had already run out, but it's like no one even was able to get in by the time like that was offered, if that was the thing at all. >> he is a marketing professor from csu east bay. she says if something seems too good to be true, do your research before buying. >> it's always good to make sure it's coming from a well vetted, trusted uh- company. >> the venue, the midway says it only rented space to the event's promoters. in a statement, they told us we are encouraging the promoter to either refund the attendees or find another way to make this right. but if this story sounds familiar, that's because you've heard it before. the bay area taco and beer festival held in san jose back in 2019 had the same issue when viewers asked seven on your side for help never got a free taco? no. according to joanne kendall, the wait for a single taco was 90 minutes. they ran out when she was halfway through the line. turns out it was all under the same management. brandon

entertainment group. the deal is for $125 million, and it gives the group full control of that land with a plan and the pushback, here's abc seven news reporter ryan curry. >> the african american sports and entertainment group is one step closer to turning the oakland coliseum into a housing and entertainment hub. >> this really gives us a chance to get down into the details of exactly how this development will work. >> the group's founder and manager, ray bobbitt, announced a tentative deal with the a's to buy the team's interest of the coliseum for $125 million. bobbitt's group recently purchased the city's half just last week for $105 million. this unlocks the opportunity to actually move development forward sooner, >> you know, obviously, you know, this site has had an undivided interest for so long and hasn't been owned by one entity since its existence. >> the a's are leaving to west sacramento next year. this is their last season at the

coliseum, and with ray and his group now gaining full control of this site, the question is, how soon will we see changes? >> when you look at it in phases, you might start with the arena and say the arena could be a centerpiece to what they call sports and entertainment tourism, like you have in la life, where the staples center is the center point, you have the restaurants around it. >> however, not everyone is thrilled with this sale. the oakland police officers association is concerned over how the a's got more money than the city. >> i don't recall seeing the city ever come out and saying, what's the value of the property is? and that's another concern to me, that the a was able to sell it for $125 million in the city of oakland and sell it for $105 million. >> bobbitt says the a's half was always going to cost more because the a's invested more into the site. >> the reason why it was different is not because it was a fundamental difference between each side negotiating better than the other. it was just having to take into consideration what the a's had already put in. >> as the focus shifts towards

redevelopment, both sides say whatever happens should be about the improvement of oakland. >> it's very hard to be anything but excited about it from a regional perspective and from a cultural and historic perspective. >> the sale still needs approval by the county board of supervisors, but bobbitt expects them to sign off on the deal in oakland. ryan curry, abc seven news. >> all right, time now to get a check on the weather. our folks down south into the east are having a tough time. yeah they are. >> meteorologist sandhya patel tracking a hurricane that's now a tropical storm. it's weakened, but she's tracking this storm for us. >> yeah, it is still powerful, though, even though it has weakened. tropical storm debbie, we're talking about dan and ama. take a look at live doppler seven. they are getting pounded in the southeast. it's a slow moving storm bringing torrential rains to parts of the region with major flood threat continuing. per the national hurricane center, there are tornado watch boxes up for parts of georgia and south carolina until the wee hours of the morning as we take a look. current stats winds are 45 miles

an hour, moving to the northeast at six. that's part of the problem. so 6 to 12in of additional rain, up to 18in in isolated locations. it is so slow moving. it's picked up so much moisture that they are going to continue to get inundated. and there is potential for it to be a historic storm as we go hour by hour. in terms of the damage that is expected to cause. and rainfall right now. 11 p.m. tonight, it's going to be 40 mile an hour. winds continuing on tuesday, still across parts of georgia and then across south carolina as a tropical storm. eventually it is expected to weaken, but like i said, it has a lot of moisture associated with it. storm surge, tornadoes, wind, all of those are going to be concerns. fortunately, here in the bay area, we've got a much quieter picture, a mix of some fog and some high, thin, wispy clouds from our tower cameras right now. it was a cooler day for many parts of the bay area. live doppler seven showing you some fog and some higher clouds still overhead as we go. hour by hour and show you

what's going to happen in just a moment. you'll see what you'll more high clouds will come through. high pressure in control of our weather. as we head into the next couple of days. and as it builds a little bit more, we are going to notice those temperatures coming up enough so that a heat advisory has been issued for parts of santa clara valley, the santa clara hills, 10 a.m. tomorrow until 10 p.m. and that is because the risk of heat related illnesses will be going up. the heat risk will be in the moderate category. so if you're particularly sensitive, keep that in mind. 90 at brentwood right now. but 60 degrees in san francisco. so quite the spread. still gusty around sfo 29 miles an hour. 15 in half moon bay. those onshore winds will cool you off nicely from our san jose camera. seen a lot of cloud cover tomorrow. triple digit heat inland on wednesday. it's still going to be hot inland but mild at the coast. and your weekend weather in case you're already looking ahead. breezy and cooler weather is expected, so this is not going to last as we go. hour by hour. you'll notice those high clouds

continuing to stream in the fog is pretty much stable, but it will compress going into tomorrow morning, so it will be limited in terms of coverage. and then more high clouds for the afternoon and evening. those clouds are just coming around that area of high pressure. your morning temperatures, 50s 60s tomorrow afternoon in the south bay, 88 in san jose, 97 in gilroy on the peninsula, temperatures coming up, 87. in redwood city, 63 pacifica, downtown san francisco 70 degrees. so certainly warmer than today in the north bay. mid 90s around sonoma, santa rosa, 89 in san rafael and in the east bay 78 oakland 86 castro valley. head inland. you'll see those triple digits around brentwood, pittsburgh 98. in livermore and concord. your accuweather seven day forecast bringing on the triple digit heat for just a day. after that, numbers start to back off, even though it's still going to be hot inland. temperatures will drop on thursday and then even though there's a minor bump up over the weekend, it'll be a cooler one. and then monday we will notice

shakes in orinda announced that it has reached its $350,000 goal. the final donations all came together today on the theater company's last day to raise money in a combination of private pledges and gofundme donations. cal shakes suffered a serious financial blow due to
