organizers behind it appear to be responsible for similar failed events in the past. >> it is career changing. it is game changing, career changing for that restaurant. >> the bay area adding to its michelin guide excellence, the restaurants getting their very first stars and which were honored with their second. >> good morning. it's tuesday, august 6th. >> we start with a check of our forecast. >> yeah. so today is going to be the warmest day of the week. heat advisories in effect, just for one day. and it's really areas away from the coast that will really feel the warm weather. this afternoon. here's a live look outside from our exploratorium camera. there is fog, but you can also see some of the stars through a marine layer. this morning i do expect the cloud cover to clear a lot faster than yesterday. yesterday the clouds kind of lingered for a lot longer this morning with high pressure moving in. we'll see that fog break down for sunshine pretty quickly. closer to 9 a.m. we're seeing full sunshine out there later on this morning around the bay shoreline. we're in the mid 50s to the low 60s out there. good morning redwood city at 57.

we're at 61 in brentwood, 49 is that current temperature in sonoma. so some chilly spots in the north bay. here's a look at our inland temperatures. this is where we'll feel some of that hot weather later on today. full sunshine, mid and upper 90s. i wouldn't be surprised if 1 or 2 cities say brentwood, even fairfield tops out about 100 later on this afternoon. with this warm weather moving in around the bay, shoreline will be in the upper 70s to lower 80s. again. the cloud cover is going to clear a lot faster this morning compared to yesterday. along the coast. it's a mix of sun and clouds, a little brighter than yesterday, but still on the cool side with highs in the low 60s. let's check in with amanda. see those drive times this morning? hi drew. >> yeah. so he mentioned the fog. a fog advisory has been issued for the golden gate bridge. are looking live at it now. northbound 101 road work just cleared out of the two right lanes right after the tolls. the lanes do open up there. no issues. and a very quiet commute into and out of the city. you can see our overall map showing you that typical slowdown on the altamont pass that drives specifically,

will take you about 42 minutes from tracy to dublin, 18 minutes from san rafael to san francisco, and then a 14 minute drive to get you from antioch to concord. now i'm also tracking the stock market wall street futures on the three major u.s. stock indexes show a slight bounce back today. they're all set to open up around 1 to 2%. now, this comes after a major rebound in the japanese stock market. after it first set up a historic day of losses. japan's benchmark index closed tuesday, up more than 9%. that came close to making up for monday's historic plunge here in the u.s. yesterday, the dow and s&p both saw their worst percentage drops in nearly two years, and it was a rough day for the nasdaq as well. economist julia pollak says several factors caused the selloff that includes weaker earnings over the past few weeks. the expectation the fed will start to quickly cut interest rates and a lackluster jobs report on friday. >> the private sector, excluding

health care and social assistance, added only 33,000 jobs in this last report and that is well below the 137,000 average between 2015 and 2019. >> despite a rising unemployment rate, joblessness remains historically low at close to 4%. even with the panic on wall street yesterday, experts say the economy will not enter a recession in the near future. pollak attributes much of the slowdown to the fact that the economy soared following the pandemic, with decades high gdp and inflation growth. back to you at the desk, amanda. >> thank you. vice president kamala harris has officially secured the democratic presidential nomination, and we're expected this morning to find out who her running mate is going to be. the two will then set off on a campaign blitz, hitting seven battleground states in only five days. abc seven news reporter gloria rodriguez joins us now live in the studio this morning. as of right now, gloria, we don't know the name. there are a few clues out there. >> there are reggie, and of course everybody is talking

about them this morning. vice president kamala harris spent the weekend interviewing three candidates, but as of monday, sources tell abc news that harris was still deliberating on her running mate and the top contenders for the vice presidential pick are arizona senator and retired astronaut mark kelly, the husband of gabby giffords. minnesota governor tim waltz, a retired school teacher and former six term congressman, and first-time governor josh shapiro from must win pennsylvania. some of the democratic party have voiced concerns about shapiro's support for israel and taxpayer funded private school vouchers. >> kamala harris is looking to see which one of these candidates will help. either get people who are going to stay home to the polls, or get those wobbler voters who weren't sure who to vote for put them in her column. >> the new democratic presidential ticket will spend the next several days crisscrossing the country, starting with pennsylvania tonight, then to michigan, wisconsin and north carolina. she will then make her way to san francisco after she finishes

when their base in iraq was targeted by multiple missiles. the strike stoking fears the middle east is on the brink of a wider war. the region on edge is iran promises it will take revenge on israel at any moment. after the assassination in iran of a top hamas leader, the u.s, now in diplomatic overdrive. >> escalation is not in anyone's interests. it will only lead to more conflict, more violence, more insecurity. >> today, president biden, speaking with jordan's king abdullah as the pentagon dispatches more destroyers and an extra squadron of fighter jets to defend israeli airspace. the us coaxing arab allies to rejoin that defensive coalition, which downed hundreds of iranian missiles and drones, fired at israel in april. sources tell abc news the white house is facing steep hurdles because many partners see israel's actions last week as, quote,

unnecessarily provocative and president biden and vice president harris in the situation room this afternoon briefed on us military efforts to defend israel and that attack on a us base in iraq, and discussing steps to respond to any attack against us personnel. tom soufi burridge, abc news, tel aviv. >> this morning we are learning more about the organizers of a failed taco and beer festival in san francisco. this past weekend. people told us they were, quote, scammed when the event was not all it was hyped up to be. abc seven news has learned this is not the first failed event by these specific organizers back in 2019. seven on your side found a similar taco festival in san jose had the same issues. the company behind these events now has another upcoming festival planned in san jose at the end of this month. the company says they are lowering the lowering the entry price and promising bottomless beer samples, but now are charging extra for food. in

a statement, ceo brandon mosley told us, quote, based on the community's feedback, we are accepting refund requests to guests who did not have the experience that we wanted to create. >> the big portion family size italian chain buca di beppo is filing for bankruptcy. the chain says this is a strategic move for the future. it does intend to keep 44 locations open. two still remain in the south bay, and campbell and palo alto. the san francisco location closed in 2017 after 20 years in soma. the company is not likely to close down completely. it is doing a major restructuring and downsizing the michelin guide ceremony for california served up some culinary crowns last night at the ritz-carlton in half moon bay. it was the first time the state's event was held in the bay area. all six of california's three star restaurants kept their three star status. that's two more restaurants than new york. if you're keeping score at home, hundreds of others distinguished the other hundreds of other distinguished restaurants were recognized for their impressive work in the world of food.

carolina this morning. winds right now 45mph. and it's going to sit here for the next several days. look at this path. it will likely move out over the open ocean tomorrow, where it will strengthen once again and then revert back over charleston. and we're talking about a lot of rain in a short amount of time. by friday, this system gets picked up by a cold front, and that's when it picks up speed and races off to the north and east. but we're talking about a lot of rain still over parts of south carolina and in georgia. look at the rainfall estimates the next five days probably exceeding a foot of rain in spots. and then once it gets picked up by the cold front, we're talking about issues in the mid-atlantic and the northeast as well. late in the week into the start of the weekend. it's not the atlantic we're watching only, but also the pacific. we've got a lot going on here. we have some weakening storms, but also some tropical systems here. fabio, amelia, we're not going to be impacted by these storms at all. we may just get some clouds blowing off these systems over the next couple of days, but these will churn out into the

to ban right turns at red lights. it would be at intersections they deem a priority across the city. most intersections in the downtown area are already becoming no turn on red under a plan passed earlier this year. the new proposal would allow the city to expand that to other areas they will be focused on intersections with plenty of foot traffic and a history of crashes. people we spoke with on the streets had mixed opinions. >> it helps keep things a little more distinct as to who gets to move. >> when it's the worst thing, it will impede the flow of traffic. >> the sfmta says priority areas for the expansion could be parts of the mission and nob hill. they are currently installing no right on red signs in downtown areas. first, both north and south of market street. back to you at the desk, reggie. >> thanks, amanda. new developments in the fate of the oakland coliseum. the oakland a's have officially come to a deal to sell its portion of the site. the team and the african american sports and entertainment group made that announcement yesterday. the

organization will buy the team's portion of the stadium for $125 million. remember last week that same group bought the city's half of the stadium for $105 million. they plan to turn it into a housing and entertainment hub. >> this unlocks the opportunity to actually move development, forward sooner, you know obviously you know, this site has had an undivided interest for so long and hasn't been owned by one entity since its existence. >> in a statement, the team said it's pleased to have reached this deal that can help, quote, provide substantial opportunities and benefits for oakland. the a's will temporarily move to sacramento for next season ahead of a planned relocation to las vegas. >> some good news for a community theater group in orinda, cal schake says it's reached its $350,000 fundraising goal by its deadline, which was yesterday. the theater company is crediting a last minute push over the weekend through an online campaign and matching pledges. cal schake says its

have a heat advisory. this is only for the south bay today. and it's for one day. this kicks in here at 10 a.m, and it's just because temperatures have a one day spike. and this is one of the areas that we'll see their temperatures. the highest above average. it will be quite warm away from the coast today. so don't just take the south bay as the only place that will get hot today because future weather showing you. we talked about those high clouds streaming in from some of those tropical systems out in the atlantic. that's what you see today in the north bay this morning. but into the afternoon. this is the headline. look at those warm temperatures back again mid and upper 90s. and we talked about how we'll likely see a few cities probably touch 100 degrees. it's warm around the bay shoreline as well today 70 and 80. so it's kind of this morning. you need the jacket. it's cloudy out there. it's cool. and then we quickly warm up under full sunshine this afternoon. so dress for summer. here's the heat advisory in the south bay 80s and 90s here 94 in los gatos 88 in san jose, 98 in morgan hill, up along the peninsula. it is a warm day today. 87 redwood city, 74 millbrae. we will see a fair

amount of sunshine along the coast this afternoon. that'll feel nice. 63 and partly cloudy in pacifica now across the city we'll see those clouds break down faster than yesterday. we'll hit 66 in the sunset. a little warmer downtown at 70 degrees in the north bay. it's getting hot out there. 94 santa rosa, 95. sonoma, 89, san rafael 99. in lakeport in the east bay, it is warm. 78 in oakland today, 84 in fremont, 86 castro valley and then inland, mid 90s to about 100, in pittsburg, brentwood, 98, in concord, hit about 96. in pleasanton overnight tonight will mainly dip into the mid 50s and the low 60s as we head into wednesday. now wednesday not as hot but still warm out there. we'll start to see the heat retreat here in a big way on thursday, and then those temperatures are closer to average by friday, which kicks off outside lands in the city 66 degrees on friday. saturday look at this. mainly sunny, 70 degrees in golden gate park and that will cool off on sunday with morning fog to sun at 67 degrees. here's the accuweather seven day forecast. we're heating up inland today, and then those temperatures drop by the end of the week. so it's kind of a one day spike in our

philadelphia. we know she has zeroed in on three finalists, but has yet to reveal her final pick number two. >> we are tracking the stock market today. markets in japan and europe rebounded after yesterday's massive sell off. us futures are also up number three. >> a big change could be coming for drivers in san francisco today. the sfmta board will be considering a plan that will give them the option to ban right turns at red lights anywhere in the city. >> number four tonight is national night out. it's a night meant to promote positive relationships between law enforcement and the communities they serve. there are events planned in neighborhoods across the bay area. >> and number five, we're in store for a warm day today. we do have a heat advisory just for one day. you can see temperatures quite warm away from the coast above average hot spots nearing about 100 degrees 70s and 80s around the bay

shoreline. >> and number six, let's go to emeryville. headlights are heading west toward the bay bridge. the drive time from highway four into the city is 39 minutes. an eastbound travel on the east shore freeway that's light on the right side. >> number seven boeing executives will be back on capitol hill today facing more questions from ntsb investigators looking into the alaska airlines plane that had the door plug blow out mid-flight earlier this year. california's summer covid surge is still not letting up. wastewater levels are topping previous summer peaks and still rising. cdc data shows covid levels in sewage have been high or very high for eight weeks in a row. now that's the same length as last summer's surge. one particular subvariant is quickly becoming dominant. health experts say the kp 3-1-1 strain is more contagious and infecting more people who have not had covid before. hospitalizations are still just a fraction of what we've seen in we have seen in previous summer surges, but they are ticking up.

california is one of 43 states with high or very high covid levels. >> we're just three months from election day and this morning a warning about voting scams. officials say. there are reports of text messages phishing for your info under the guise of voter registration. abc seven news reporter leslie brinkley has some information on what to avoid and how you can make sure that you are registered to vote. >> county registrar's offices do not text voters to tell them they're not registered, or they need to update their voter information. >> people are getting unsolicited text messages that say you're not registered to vote, or you're inactive. and that to me, tells that that possibly could be a scam. it's unsolicited contact. it is a sense of urgency and there's potentially a link that is not a gov link. so we want people to be aware and be cautious of what they click on. >> the contra costa county registrar's office says they've been getting phone calls from worried voters who have gotten text messages and called the

office to make sure they're registered. staff can look them up and reassure them it's happening across the bay area and across the state. >> i would say it's kind of alarming if there are scams out there trying to get people to, reregister under false pretenses to second guess everything. >> and it's a shame registrars are scrambling to get ahead of the curve to combat potential misinformation online, and the text and email here in contra costa, they're expecting record turnout in november, anticipating that over 85% of voters will cast a ballot. >> this time, people can check their voter status if they're uncertain, go to the trusted election source either your local elections office or the secretary of state. >> for up to date and accurate information, you can log on to voter status sos for secretary of state dot ca.gov and input your name and driver's license number for confirmation. >> i'm leslie brinkley, abc

well into the hundreds. but some of this warm air is working its way north this afternoon. so today is the hottest day here. locally. we will have a one day spike in our heat. heat advisories are in effect for the south bay later on this afternoon. this morning though, it's comfortably cool out there, mainly in the 50s as we get you going underneath a lot of cloud cover. however, unlike yesterday where the clouds lingered for much of the morning, the clouds will break down pretty fast. i think most of us will see sunshine by about 9 a.m, where we have those clouds. inland temperatures are warm mid and upper 90s today for daytime highs. as we see some of that warm air move in from the south around the bay shoreline. yes, we do have clouds this morning, but again we see sunshine a lot quicker today compared to yesterday. upper 70s to the lower 80s. you have to dress on the cool side this morning with that jacket. and then in the afternoon you need the warm weather clothes, the shorts and the t shirt. so it's kind of an evolving forecast over the next 12 hours for a lot of us. fog along the coast this morning

homes faster than the firefighters could navigate the narrow roads. firefighters have been able to get the fire to 75% containment. it's burned 100 acres as of this morning. it's not clear yet how many homes are gone. evacuation orders are still in place, and of course, we're still tracking the park fire. this massive fire still growing in butte and tehama counties. time lapse video shows massive smoke plumes coming from that fire. after several days of slower growth. it remains california's fourth largest fire on record at more than 406,000 acres burned. containment at this point is 34%. this fire has destroyed 640 buildings and evacuations are still in place in four counties. developing news on the flood emergency in the southeast. the remnants of hurricane debbie, already a deadly storm, could now make history. more than two feet of rain could hit some areas.
