billions of dollars and years in the making. a major link for bay area commuters taking a giant leap into the future this weekend. thanks for joining us i'm j.r stone. we're getting an inside look tonight as caltrain debuts its cutting edge electric fleet. the new trains represent a landmark shift towards faster, cleaner public transit, helping to fight climate change and build a better bay area. abc7 news reporter cornell bernard has reaction from the first riders of the new fleet. >> three two nancy pelosi and governor gavin newsom cutting the ribbon on a new, faster, cleaner commute. caltrain powering up and showing off its new electric fleet of trains. oh the $2 billion electrification project has been decades in the making. it ditches diesel powered trains for a sleeker, greener fleet. this is the most

they went in through the window, went to the back, tried to steal the safe which is bolted down and they really left with nothing except a bag of cookies. >> so wow. >> mitchell believes it'll cost $5,000 to replace the big front window. the ice cream shop remains open despite the burglary. police tell us no arrests have been made the music? day two of the outside lands festival in golden gate park is underway right now. there is no shortage of excitement for fans. as you can see in this video, the rise to fame pop star sabrina carpenter is tonight's headliner. 75,000 people are expected to attend each day of the festival, thanks to outside lands. it will be a packed weekend on public transit in san francisco. the head of the sfmta says weekends are actually a huge part of their

post-pandemic recovery. at a board meeting this week, director jeffrey tumlin talked about how ridership is shifting dramatically from weekday commutes to weekends. tumlin says downtown rail ridership is at about 55% of pre-covid levels, but certain bus lines like the 49 down van ness and the 22 on fillmore are seeing huge surges. 140% of pre-covid levels. tumlin says. on weekends, that surge hits 200%. as a result, the sfmta is adjusting schedules every 4 to 6 months, trying to support weekend demand. >> as far as i know, we're the only agency in the country that is making this frequent of complete rebuilding of our schedule, chasing the data and the changing travel patterns, tumlin says. >> they're trying to prioritize evenings, weekends, and even midday for their schedules because that's where they're seeing the demand. he wanted a raise, so he paid someone else

yesterday it was a little foggy. weather is a little different today. well it is different. >> you know, we had some fog earlier. it lifted and we thought the marine layer was forming, but it has lifted. so it's clearing out near the coastline right now for a while. the fog will be back. you're getting cold later. here's a look at what's happening. you can see on the satellite radar composite image that the low clouds just sort of lifted in the early evening hours. well, late afternoon, i should say. it's not evening yet, but it will return. the marine layer will not abandon us. we've got a nice brisk onshore flow right now with wind speeds generally about 14 to 16mph, and it's a few degrees warmer in most locations away from the coast than at this time yesterday, but a little bit cooler in places like san francisco and pacifica. so right now, 61 degrees here in the city, upper 60s at oakland and hayward, 81 at san jose, 79 in redwood city, 57 at half moon bay. notice the absence of low clouds at the golden gate. they were there about an hour or two ago, but. and they'll be back 83. whoops. well, that was a little fast, wasn't it? 83 degrees up north in santa rosa

and mainly 70s in other north bay locations. but we have some low 90s in our inland areas like fairfield, concord and livermore. okay. right now, overnight coastal low clouds and drizzle will return tomorrow. breezy and much cooler than today and early next week. the cooling pattern continues. in fact, it will continue through most of next week. here's our forecast animation starting at 9 p.m. notice late tonight and overnight, we'll see the return of the low clouds and some high clouds passing by as well. and they'll be patchy drizzle, spotty drizzle near the coastline and some of it will move onshore, but it won't be very widespread overnight. low temperatures will be mainly in the mid to upper 50s, a little milder in places like antioch, with a low of 66, and down at san jose a low of 62 degrees. highs tomorrow 60. half moon bay 65. here in san francisco around the bay shoreline. upper 60s to low 70s will be the general range. we'll see highs up north of 76 at napa, 87 at santa rosa. inland east bay, mid to upper 80s where today we had mid 90s. so the cooling will certainly be evident. and you'll be able to

feel that cooling if you're outside tomorrow. here's the accuweather seven day forecast. below average temperatures on monday, as inland highs will reach only to the mid 80s and low 70s around the bay shoreline and temperatures bounce back just a couple of degrees on tuesday and they remain in that range of 88 to about 90. in the inland areas through next weekend, low to mid 70s around the bay shoreline and low 60s on the coast. so we have a week of really lovely weather. the most extended period of, i'd say coolish weather we've had in a while, and that may continue through next week actually into the following week. so we may be into what the end of the end of august before we get another big warm up. wow. >> i think a lot of people are excited here and below average. yes, we could we could do more below average. it's not something we see very often that's exactly right. >> yeah. this is nice. >> thank you so much spencer. all right. up next in sports, it is all about the man known as chef curry. the gold medal game happened in france today. we'll
